The "Open a new tab" does not work

I've just updated to Firefox 3.6.17. When I try to open up a new tab by pressing the button on the right of the existing tab, nothing happens.

Un-install the '''''Ask Toolbar''''', which has been reported to cause this problem. It is the responsibility of Ask to fix the problem with their toolbar. Click on "More system info..." to the right of your original question to see your User-agent which indicates that you have the Ask '''''Toolbar''''' installed.

The Ask Toolbar is causing that in the Firefox 3.6.13+ versions. Uninstall that extension.
There are a couple of places to check for the Ask toolbar:
    * Check the Windows Control panel for the Ask Toolbar - http://about.ask.com/apn/toolbar/docs/default/faq/en/ff/index.html#na4
    * Also check your list of extensions, you may be able to uninstall it from there - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Uninstalling+add-ons

  • Why does right clinking on link and selecting open in new tab does not work?

Why does right clinking on link and selecting open in new tab does not work?
It opens up a blank page. The only way to make the link work is to click on the navigation bar in the new tab and press enter to reload the link.

Do you have that problem when running in the Firefox SafeMode?<br/> ''A troubleshooting mode.''<br />
1.You can open the Firefox 4.0 SafeMode by holding the '''Shft''' key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut. <br />
    2. Or use the Help menu item, click on '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' while Firefox is running. <br />
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut to open it again.''

  • I just upgraded to FF 4.0 on Win7 and I noticed that "Open in new tab" does not work

I just upgraded to FF 4.0 on Win7 and I noticed that when you click a link and select 'open in new tab' it copies over the correct link to the address bar but doesn't open it.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • Open a New tab is not working

The "Open A New Tab" button has stopped working. Everything else seems to be OK. I've checked my settings against those in my other computer and they match. This is a 64 bit Toshiba with a 500 gb hard drive and 8 megs of Ram. I hope you have a suggestion. Oh - this is running Firefox v3.6.18 - I tried reloading it to no avail. I am using 3.6.18 because my "Identity Card Safe & Logins" (Norton Product with Norton Security Suite) does not appear with the latest version of Firefox and I store my passwords etc there. It does not appear above the bar at the top. Itried and then removed the latest version and reinstalled 3.6.18 - the tab did work after re-instillation. This is a new problem.

  • How do I get a new tab to open? Clicking on the "Open A New Tab" (+) does nothing.

I use to be able to open multiple tabs on Firefox by clicking the + (Open A New Tab). Now nothing happens when I click this button.

Uninstall the '''''Ask Toolbar''''' ('''''if you have it installed'''''). It can cause that problem.

  • Safari (OSX 10.9) new tab does not work

I opened Safari after the Mavericks upgrade and, initially, it looked fine. Now when I open it, it does not work. I press command-T and a new tab does not appear; I press command-N and a new window does not appear. If I quit Safari and reopen it, the tabs show up. So the UI is not reflecting the input. I've removed all non-Apple internet plug-ins and I've removed all extensions, moved all plists to my desktop and I still have this behavior.

OK, so apple support had me reset my SMC amd PRAM. In resetting PRAM, I was able to run Disk Utility and repair permissions too. And it worked. Tabs and new windows show up and it's all responsive.

  • Safari 5 - Opening a new tab does not make it active

In Safari 4 if you open up a new tab, whether or not the "When new tab or window opens, make it active" option is checked, the new tab becomes active. In Safari 5 creating an new tab does not make it active. It doesn't matter what the option mentioned above is checked or not. I have to explicitly click on the tab to bring in in focus. Interestingly, in S5, creating a new window does bring the new window into focus.
    Anyone else seeing this?

But do you have the same problem as I, i.e. that tabs cannot be opened at all without launching Top Sites when using Saft?
This problem is much more serious than the non-focus problem. Here's another report of the same issue:

  • Right click on a link and selecting "open in new window" does not work. How do I gewt this feature to work? PS Right click on a link and selecting open in new tab does.

No matter where the link is - in an e-mail or on a web page - the "Open in new window" feature does not work. Very annoying. Also I close Firefox in a session, but then cannot re-open it. When I shut my PC down I get a prompt to End Task -[ Firefox ] and a window opens asking if I want to save tabs and quit; quit; or cancel. After closing Firefox it does not show as an application running in Task Manager
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == I recently re-installed Firefox.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the ''Safe mode'' start window.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (on Mac: "Firefox > Quit")

  • I can no longer open multiple tabs in a window but if a program opens another tab it will work but clicking on "new tab" does not work.

That is the details. When I click on "new tab" it will not open a new tab in the current window. When I click on something that will open a new tab it works that way. I can open new windows, that is not problem This only happened the last week or so.

  • The botton to open a new tab is not working. How I can solve this issue?

the bottom next to the tabs, the one that opens a new tab fast is not working, also the ctrl+T keyboard command is not working also. The only way to open a new tab is right click on the mouse, but always on some link, I can not open a new blank tab.
    Thanks

Try uninstalling the Ask toolbar and it should work again. There is a compatibility issue with the Ask toolbar and the current version of Firefox.

  • Firefox 3.6.15, Windows 7, clicking on New Tab does not work -- what's the solution?

When I click directly on the + tab at the right of the tabs ("Open a new tab") nothing happens. When I R-click the mouse while hovering over the + tab and select New Tab, nothing happens. In other words, I cannot use the multi-tab capability of Firefox...any ideas on how to fix this?
