My New Tab Page does not work at all. I just have the empty squares with nothing in them at all?
I know how to use about:config & have had the usual problems with newtab page tiles but this is more like a bug- using 33.0.1. Doesn't show tiles icon in top right corner just shows a gear that is used to hide the empty tiles that I can't fill with sites. First it would only show 2 rows of 4 columns even though I had it set to 5 & 6 then few days later for no reason they went empty with a serrated line around the tiles & can't drag from the bookmarks---- really bloody annoying!!!!!!! Possibly a setting in the about:config but i can't fig it out?Reset Firefox to its default state

The open new tab function is not responding
when i click open new tab or use the ctrl t to open a new tab, it does not respond...unless i click on a link to open new tab
Uninstall the Ask toolbar and it should work again. There is a compatibility issue with the Ask toolbar and Firefox that prevents new tabs from being opened.
-
I used the same installation file, but on 1 pc, the 'open new tab' button is available in the 'customize toolbar' menu and can be dragged and dropped onto the navigation bar. On the other pc, the 'open new tab' button/icon is not even available for dragging and dropping. I uninstalled firefox completely, including settings and preferences, then reinstalled, but that did not correct the missing button.
Hi,
Please try Restore Default Set in the Customize... window. If it's still not visible, one reason could be that the button is already placed on the toolbar but may be hidden behind another icon or toolbar.

i would like the option ´open new window in new tab instead´ working properly so no new windows will be opened except when I command them to..
as said, many websites have popups (most are blocked, still some come through) who open in a new window.Type about:config in the Location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key. When you see a warning, click I'll be careful, I promise! button.
* Preferences that have been modified are shown as bold (user set).
* Preferences can be Reset to the default or changed via the right-click context menu.
-> In the Filter bar type browser.link.open_newwindow
* Right click the preference browser.link.open_newwindow and click Modify
* change the value to 3
* click OK
-> In the Filter bar type browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction
* Right click the preference browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction and click Modify
* change the value to 0 (zero)
* click OK
-> Close the about:config tab and then Restart Firefox.
Check and tell if its working. -
It had been working fine. Suddenly not working after no significant change to computer (that I'm aware of).
Start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

Open in new tab preference does not work
Although i have tried all the options in your help pages and trouble shooting pages including deleting the prefs.nj file it still does not open url's in a new tab despite that preference being selected
== immediately i instaleed friefoxThe setting in Tools > Options > Tabs: "New pages should be opened in": "a new tab/window" is for links that specify a target window to open the link in.
That option allows you to divert such links to a new tab or to the current tab.
For other links you have to use a middle-click or press Ctrl and left-click or use the context menu.
You need to left-click JavaScript links and divert them to a new tab or you get a blank tab.
Some extensions that you can look at:
* Tabberwocky: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/14439
* Tab Mix Plus : https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/1122 -
The new tab is visible on the the tab bar but clicking on it does not open a new tab.Neither can I open a new tab from the File drop down menu, nor the Ctrl+T method as indicated in the troubleshooting guide.
Un-install the Ask Toolbar which many users have reported causing that problem.

The "open a new tab" button does not open a new tab.
The "open a new tab" button does not work. Neither does "file; new tab", or Control T. Can you please tell me how to fix this?
Thank you.This issue can be caused by the Ask<i></i>.com toolbar (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions)
Your system details show that toolbar in the user agent as AskTbBCPA/3.13.1.18107

The + sign button that opens a new tab (called Untitled) stopped working. When I go to File, and click on New Tab, that does not work either. I checked the Options and made sure the "Open new window in new tab instead was checked. I tried System Restore, and I downloaded and installed Firefox 5.0. The + sign still does not work. This problem in on my desktop. I checked my laptop and the open new tab + sign button is working fine. What is happening?
Start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
* https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
* Use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.
* Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
In Firefox 4+ you can use one of these to start in <u>Safe mode</u>:
* Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
* Hold down the Shift key while double clicking the Firefox desktop shortcut (Windows)

Fetch new mail messages does not work
On my notebook the fetch new mail messages does not work
Settings:
- Fetch new messages: every minute
- Play sound Purr
I need to us the manual button.
On my imac it works fine with the same accountsMy mail sounds are all screwed up. I hear the plane fly when I send an email but when I receive mail, no sound. I have rules set up which worked in Tiger. One rule is for mail to play a message "You have a message from "John Doe" when I receive an email from "John Doe" but it only plays when I send "John Doe" and email. Assbackwards.
Sometimes when reading new mail, it just disappears. I have to click on it again. I find this version of email to be very flaky!

When I link to an external site, the link does not work, if I right click "Open in new tab" the link works.
I have not changed any of my preferences and they look like they are as I would have left them.
I tried resetting Firefox and deleting the preference file, no change.
By the way, I hate that the tabs are on top and not where they belong above the pages they are for. There should still be a way in Firefox to put them back without having to use an add-in. -
I actually need help but cannot find the answer.
Please.......Lately when open a new tab it does not open with a blank page. I don't want to set my homepage as blank as when I first open Firefox, it automatically loads my hotmail page. But then if I open other pages I don't get a blank page. Help, please?
Thank you.
