The Operation Cannot complete b/c of an unknown error [!MP]

Everytime I go to delete something in Illustrator CS3 or just go to even close the program I am getting this error:
The operation cannot compelte b/c of an unknown error [!MP].  And then it follows up with this window immedietly after:
An error occured while processing the appearance of an object.
It appears to be only in this one file.  I tried copying the artwork over to a new file, but the same problem occurs.  I don't want to have to recreate this object again.  But don't know how to solve the error message.  Does anyone know?
Thanks

Thanks that worked.  I found out which piece was causing the problem.  I think it was when I tried to use the knife tool on a shape, it must have messed it up somehow.  When I copied everything over, that was the only piece that caused the problem.
Thanks for your help.

Here is what I tried and it worked
Save the file as pdf with the "Preserve Illustrator Editing capabilities" checked.  Rename the file from .pdf to .ai
New file can now export without any problems.

  • The operation cannot complete because there isn't enough memory (RAM) available

    Illustrator CS5 Verison 15.1 on a MacBook Pro Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013 Processor  2.7 GHz Intel Core i7, Memory  16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3,
Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB. Illustrator opens .ai and .pdf files. When I try to open a .dwg file, I get the following message, “The operation cannot complete because there isn’t enough memory (RAM) available”. I have been using the program for some time to successfully open .dwg files. This is a recent occurrence and I have not made any changes to the hard drive other than installing OS 10.9

Have you already opened that specific file at some former time?
Have you already tried a restart?
    Apart from that:
Illustrator CS5 cannot use more than 3 GB of RAM, no matter how much is installed. OS 10.9 causes all kinds of problem even with newer versions of Illustrator.

  • "The operations cannot complete because of an error" DFER

I frequently use preview to view exports of images from Adobe Illustrator on my Retina MBP. Typically I export an image, then I view it in Preview. After viewing, I make changes then re-export while the file is still open in Preview. It usually works fine and when I change the focus to the preview window the view is updated to the latest export, very slick. The issue is that after a few exports over minutes or even hours I eventually get this message: "The operations cannot complete because of an error" DFER
It appears to be a file sharing issue caused by the Preview app making it so Illustrator can't overwrite the file anymore.
My question is, why does this process work fine the first few times only to stop and require me to quit Preview before I can export again?? Just closing the open Preview window doesn't fix the issue, I have to fully quit Preview to be able to export from Illustrator.
Is there a work around that will let me continue viewing the same file in Preview no matter how many times I overwrite it using Illustrator?

Ill CS3, new install, 13.0.2, was working perfectly Thursday. Closed my Mac (MacBook Pro, Intel) Opened on Friday, get this error. Anyone have any ideas?

I had the same experience. No updates or changes, just an error out of nowhere. It doesn't seem to affect the performance of Illustrator. Just a couple of annoying error message click-throughs at startup.
First error message: "The operation cannot complete because of an unknown error. [CANF]"
Second error message: "An error occured while processing the appearance of an object."

When I called Adobe, I was pretty much told that they would not offer any assistance. I offered to purchase the incident support, but they said that wasn't an option with this problem. I had to badger the guy just to get him to say that he believed it was caused by an inability of our network account users to write to the local hard drive. What is below is the results of my attempts to research and solve the problem from that point.
The way we addressed it was to make a second partition (only 10GB) on the local computers and give full read & write access to it for everyone. Then, we instructed our students to set their Scratch location to that new partition. This does indeed resolve the [PARM] error and some problems trying to save and open large files. It does not address the SUITEPEA errors we are getting in our console log though.
    To change the Scratch location:
    - click Illustrator in the menu bar
    - select Preferences
    - click Plug-ins and Scratch
    - use the drop-down menu to change the Primary scratch disk
    - click OK
Sadly, the above must be done per each individual user and I have not yet found a way to push the preference using Workgroup Manager since the Illustrator preference file is not a normal .plist and the Scratch portion is a rather lengthy string of characters. Adobe did not make this one easy on us and they're not willing to support it (or weren't in my case).
I wish the rest of you better luck than I have had on this issue.
The funny thing is - if Adobe used /Users/Shared for the default scratch location instead of whatever location it currently is, I don't think this would be a problem since all users (in a default Mac OS X install) have full access to /Users/Shared

  • The operation cannot complete because of an unknown error. [Parm]

I manage computer labs for a small college and we recently installed Adobe CS3 Design Premium on our Macintosh labs. When a user launches Adobe Illustrator CS3 (13.0.2), they see a widget with the Ai (Adobe Illustrator) icon and the following text "The operation cannot complete because of an unknown error. [Parm]" and an OK button. At the same time, the console log (~/Library/Logs/Adobe Illustrator CS3/AISuitePea.log) is flooded with something called SuitePea throwing errors, such as these below (this is only a small portion of those thrown):

Some google searching suggested multiple means of dealing with this, from Disk Utility Permissions Repair to plug-in issues/removal. So far, nothing I have tried has yielded any results. My latest attempt was fully uninstalling CS3 using the utility on the CD, and then manually removing all remaining portions I could find on the hard drive (prefs, remaining folders, etc...), rebooting, and then resintalling, but have found I encounter the same result.
Does anyone know what this SuitePea is or what to do about this kind of error?

Anyone get this message when launching Illustrator CS2 in OS 10.5?.5
The operation cannot complete because of an unknown error. [TAdd]
The keyboard short commands to access tools, etc. seem disabled as a result.
Also, I get an error message when trying to access keyboard shortcuts within illustrator.

  • The operation cannot complete due to an unknown error.

I get an error "The operation cannot complete due to an unknown error" when I copy paste ax XL graph from MS excel to Illustrator CS6. This happens only when I paste the graph created in Win7 but when I paste the graph created in XP, it doesn't throw any error and works fine. Can anybody say why get this error only with the graph sheets created in Win7 and what is the solution for this?

    Moha,
Is that some thing to do with this.
    That sounds highly probable.
Is it possible to downsave the file to .xls and try that?
It may be one for our staff friends here.

  • Solution to error: "The operation cannot complete because of an unknown error. [CANT]" ???

    Hi,
I'm working with Adobe Illustrator CS3 for Mac and suddenly the software started to prompt "The operation cannot complete because of an unknown error. [CANT]". I deleted my prefs and the problem is still present.
Some times the machine freezes after this error.
I'm performing normal operations, nothing that requieres large amounts of memory or so.
The problem only happens in Illustrator.
    Any possible solution?
    thanks in advance.

I have a MacBook Pro 15" 2.2 GHz. My hard drive has 50% of free space (80GB free)
It was defragmented 2 months ago. No reports from SMART or any issues with directory. (tested with Drive Genius and Disk Warrior)
I read in several posts about problem with scratch discs. My system has only one partition.
Hope this info might be helpful.

  • Illustrator CS5 _ Error  (The operation cannot complete...)

I am trying to export a png file to my desktop
but I keep getting an error from illustrator
saying "The operation cannot complete because of an unknown error. [DFER]"
I am also attaching a print screen.
    Thanks!!

I have been getting the same error, but I think I just figured out what is causing it. When exporting a png or jpg in Illustrator, make sure the name you enter for it has no slashed or special characters. I used a date in the name and I kept getting that error; when I took the date out, it worked just fine.

    vicky,
You may have a corrupt file, or the list may be relevant.
    Corrupt file:
One thing often tried first is to create a new document and File>Place the corrupted one to see how much may be rescued that way (remember to tick Paste remembers Layers in the Layer palette flyout/dropdown first, and to untick it afterwards).
Here is a website where you can see whether it can rescue the file, and if it can, you may pay for a subscription to have it done,
    http://www.recoverytoolbox.com/buy_illustrator.html
    and another similar website,
    http://markzware.com/adobe-software/fix-illustrator-file-unknown-error-occurred-pdf2dtp-fi le-recovery/
As far as I remember, the former is for Win and the latter for Mac.
Here are a few pages about struggling with it yourself:

    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/500/cpsid_50031.html
    http://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/kb/enable-content-recovery-mode-illustrator.html
    The list:
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

  • The operation cannot complete because there isn't enough memory (RAM) available? Anyone had this issue?

I was working on a file, closed it briefly, then reopened it but didn't open and continued to get the message that I don't have enough memory.
The file is not huge at all. 41.3 MB
Anyone had this issue before? Need help soon. Need to send this file to the printer.

OK. I figured it out. I just opened the file on Illustrator CS5 instead of CSS. It opened fine, but still didn't resolved the issue why CSS couldn't open that file, but CS5 can.
If anyone has an answer for that, I would really appreciate it.
Would prefer to send files to the latest software versus using an older program.
    Thanks!
