The oracle_valdated RPM:  keep it in your toolbox

A quick tip that seems 'undocumented' that is a fantastic timesaver for anyone installing the Oracle 11g database: you can save a lot of time using the 'oracle_validated' RPM package from the public-yum server. (From what I've gathered, this was offered through Unbreakable Linux support - but is now 'free', which is particularly handy for those of us developing that might not have the support contract in hand...
Quick instructions:
1) Go to http://public-yum.oracle.com. Follow the instructions to set up the public yum server for your OEL version.
2) Make sure to enable access to the repository by setting the flags to 'enabled' both for your version (your update level) plus the addons, etc.
3) Run 'yum list' to verify.
4) Then as root, 'yum install oracle_validated'
This package finds the dependencies needed (well, most of them) plus creates the accounts and sets the kernel parameters needed to install the Oracle 11g database. If you are setting up an environment from scratch, you can ignore the steps up to 'runInstaller' by using the validated RPM.
(On an install of OEL 5.5 running under VMWare, I had to install only two other packages prompted by the installer.)

FWIW - the proper name is "oracle-validated".. note the dash, not the underscore. ;-)
