The PATH Hit a Wall!
No matter what I do I just can't get the PATH settings right. Every time I try to start the
NetBeans IDE 6, I keep getting a "no compiler found message". I don't know whether
this software dosen't have any compiler at all, or it's not compatible with the IDE, or I
just haven't given the PATH environment the right setting, I just can't figure it out.
And whenever I try to run a Java program, using the Java command I get the message:
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: ExampleProgram
Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: ExampleProgram

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

When i type my email, the text would go on and on and overflows. I mean to say it doesn't autmatically hit the right hand side wall and change to next line! I have to manually press enter and then next line starts. Started happening suddenly.pls help.
Does it happen when you reply to an email? If so, it might be that there's content in the original email (like an image or something similar) that overflows the window content, therefore the Mail app, when you hit the border, follows the content below instead of going on a new line. You might wanna try that.

1. had problems with WSUS installation/post configuration
2. found a blog with an identical problem where the problem was solved with the call to Microsoft. Tools directory was missing.
I followed the suggestion: reinstalled WSUS using ps and wsusutil.
I canceled WSUS configuration at recommended step. Everything looked fine.
But after SUP creation I found SMS_WSUS_CONFIGURATION_MANAGER warning.
I checked WCM.log and found Could not find a part of the path 'C:\Program Files\Update Services\Schema\baseapplicabilityrules.xsd'.
When checked there was no Schema folder in the path above. So it's just missing as folder TOOLS before troubleshooting.
Any suggestions for fixing this.
Thanks.
Here is partial WCM that could help to find the issue, I clearly see that there is no Schema directory in C:\Program Files\Update Services:

Problem with the cache hit ratio
Hello,
I ma having a problem with the cache hit ratio I am geting. I am sure, 100% sure, that something has got to be wrong with the cache hit ratio I am fetching!
1) I will post the code that I am using to retrieve the cache hit ratio. I've seen about a thousand different equations, all equivalent in the end.
In oracle cache hit ratio seems to be:
cache hits / cache lookups,
where cache hits <=> logica IO - physical reads
cache lookups <=> logical IO
Now some people use the session logical Reads stat, from teh view v$sysstat; others use db block gets + db consistent gets; whatever. At the end of the day its all the same, and this is what i Use:
SELECT (P1.value + P2.value - P3.value) AS CACHE_HITS, (P1.value + P2.value) AS CACHE_LOOKUPS, P4.value AS MAX_BUFFS_SIZEB
FROM v$sysstat P1, v$sysstat P2, v$sysstat P3, V$PARAMETER P4
WHERE
P1.name = 'db block gets' AND
P2.name = 'consistent gets' AND
P3.name = 'physical reads' AND
P4.name = 'sga_max_size'
2) The problem:
The cache hit ratio I am retrieving cannot be correct. In this case i was benchamarking a HUGELY inneficient query, consisting of the Union of 5 Projections over the same source table, and Oracle is configured with a relatively small SGA of 300 MB. They query plan is awful, the database will read the source database table 5 times.
And I can see in the physical data statistics of the source tablespace, that total Bytes read is aproximatly 5 times the size of the text file that I used to bulk load data into the databse.
Some of the relevant stats, wait events:
db file scattered read 1129,93 seconds
Elapsed time: 1311,9 seconds
CPU time: 179,84
SGA max Size: 314572800 Bytes
And total bytes read: 77771964416 B (aproximatly 72 Gga bytes)
the source txt loaded to the database was aprox 16 G
Number of reads was like 4.5 times the source datafile.
I would say this, given the difference between CPU time and Elapsed Time, it is clear that the query spent almost all of its time doin DB file scattered reads. How is it possible that i get the following cache hit ratio:
Cache hit Ratio: 0,92
Cache hits: 109680186
Cache lookups: 119173819
I mean only 8% of that Logical I/O corresponded to physical I/O? It is just not possible.
3) Procedure of taking stats:
Now to retrieve these stats I snapshot the system 2 times. One before the query, one after the query.
But: this is not done in a single session. In total 3 sessions are created. One session two retrieve the stats before the query, one session to run the query, a last session to snapshot after the query.
Could the problem, assuming there is one, be related to this:
"The V$SESSTAT view contains statistics on a per-session basis and is only valid for the session currently connected. When a session disconnects all statistics for the session are updated in V$SYSSTAT. The values for the statistics are cleared until the next session uses them."
What does this paragraph mean. Does it mean that the v$sysstat only shows you the stats of the last session that closed? Or does it mean thtat v$sysstat is increamented with the statistics of each v$sessionstat once a session terminates? If so, then my procedure for gathering those stats should be correct.
Can anyone help me sort out the origin of such a high cache hit ratio, with so much I/O being done?sono99 wrote:
Hi,s
first of, let me start by saying that there were many things in your post that you mentioned that I could no understand. 1. Because i am not an Oracle Expert, i use whatever RDBMS whenever i need to. 2. Because another problem has come up and, right now, i cannot inform myself to be able to comprehend it all.Well, could it be that you need to understand the database you are working on in order to comprehend it? That is why we strongly advise you to read the concepts manual first, you need to understand the architecture that Oracle uses, as well as the basic concepts of how oracle does locking and maintains read consistency. It does these different than other database engines, and some things become nonsense if looked at from the viewpoint of a single user.

It would be useful to see the execution plan jhust in case you have simplified the problem so much that a critical detail is missing.

Now, Althought it is clear from the query that the statement is executed with the NOLOGGiNG, i have disabled the logging entirely for the tablespace.There are certain rules about nologging that may not be obvious. Again, this derives from the basic Oracle architecture, and if you use the wrong definitions of things like logging, you will be led down the primrose path to confusion.
>
Futhermore, yes, the RDBMS is a test RDBMS... I have droped the database a few times... And I am constantly deleting an re-inserting data into the source database table named PROFILE.>
I also make sure do check all the datafile statistics, and for this query the amount of RedoLog, Undo "Log", Templife used is negligible, practically zero.Create table is DDL, which has implied commits before and afterwards. There is a lot going on, some of it dependent on the volume of data returned. The Oracle database writer writes things out when it feels like it, there are situations where it might just leave it in memory for a while. With nologging, Oracle may not care that you can't perform recovery if it is interrupted. So you might want to look into statspack or EM to tell you what is going on, the datafile statistics may not be all that informative for this case.
>
Most of the I/O is reading, a few of the I/O is writing.
My idea is not to optimize this query, it is to understand how it performs. Well, have you read the Concepts manual?
I have other implementations to test, namely I having trouble with one of them.
Furthermore, I doubt the query Plan Oracle is using actually involves tablescans (as I I'd like it to do); because in the Wait Events, most of the wait time for this query is spent doing "db file scattered read". And I think this is different from a tablescan.Please look up the definition of [db file scattered read|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14211/instance_tune.htm#sthref703].
>
Do you really have to use sessions external to the query session ? Can you query v$mystat joined to v$statname from the session itself.
No, I don't want to that!
I avoid as much as possible having the code I execute being implemented in java. Why do you think java has anything to do with this? In your session, desc v$mystat and v$statname, these are views you can look at.
When i can avoid it I don't query the database directly through JDBC, i use the RDBMS command line client, which is supposed to be very robust. Er, is that sqlplus?
So yes, I only connect to the database with JDBC... in very last session.
Of course, I Could Have put both the gather stats before query and gathers stats after query a single script: the script that would be also runing the query.
But that would cause me a number of problems, namely some of the SQL i build has to be implemented dynamically. And I don't want to be replicating the snapshoting code into every query script I make. This way I have one sql with the snapshoting scripts; and multiple scripts for running each query. I avoid code replication in this manner.Instrumentation is a large subject; dynamic sql generation is something to be avoided if possible. Remember, Oracle is written with the idea that many people are going to be sharing code and the database, so it is optimized in that way. For SQL parsing in particular, if every SQL is different, you get a performance problem called "hard parsing." You can (and generally should, and sometimes can't avoid) use bind variables so that Oracle doesn't need to hard parse every SQL. In fact, this is one of those things that applies to other engines besides Oracle. I would recommend you read Tom Kyte's books, he explains what is going on in detail, including in some places the non-Oracle viewpoint.
>
Furthermore, Since the database is not a production database, it is there so I can do my tests. I don't have to be concerned with what other sessions may be doing to my system. There are only the sessions I control.No, there are sessions Oracle controls. If you are on unix, you can easily see this, but there are ways to see it on Windows, too. In some cases, your own sessions can affect themselves.
>
then what it the array fetch size ? If the array fetch size is large enough the number of block visits would be similar to the number of physical block reads.
I don't know what the arraysize you mention is. i have not touched that parameter. So whatever it is, it's the default.You should find out! You can go to http://tahiti.oracle.com and type array fetch size into the search box. You can also go to http://asktom.oracle.com and do the same thing, with some more interesting detail.
>
By the way, I don't get the query results into my client, the query results are dumped into a target output table.
So, if the arraysize has something to do with the number of rows that Oracle is returning the client in each step... I think it doesn't matter.You may hear this phrase a lot:
"It depends."

I can however commit the create table part and just call for the evalution of the Select part of the query; i believe it should be same.
"Optimizer" "Cost" "Cardinality" "Bytes" "Partition Start" "Partition Stop" "Partition Id" "ACCESS PREDICATES" "FILTER PREDICATES"
"SELECT STATEMENT" "ALL_ROWS" "2563" "586110" "15238860" "" "" "" "" ""

"TABLE ACCESS(FULL) SONO99.PROFILE" "" "513" "117222" "3047772" "" "" "" "" ""
This query plan was taken from sql developer, exported to txt, and the PROFILE table here has only 100k tuples.
Right now I am more concerned with testing the MODEL query. Which Oracle doesn't seem to be able any more... but that is a matter for another thread.
Regarding this plan. The Union ALL seems to be more than just a binary Operator... IT seems to be Neray.
The union all on that execution plan seems to be taking as leaf tables 5 99sono.Profile tables, and be making a table scan to them all. So I'd say that the RDBMS should only scan each database block once and not 5 times.
But: It doesn't seem to be so. IT seems like what oracle is doing is scanning completly each the table, and then moving on to next select statement in the UNION ALL. Because given the amount of source table that was read, 5 times greater than the size of the source table. Oracle didn't reuse read blocks.
But this is just my feeling.Your feeling is uninteresting. Telling us what you really hope to accomplish might be more interesting.
Anyway, in terms of consistent gets, how many consistent gets should the RDBMS be doing? 5
One for each table block?It depends.

There is a workaround:
Wait until you get to the point where you select the task sequence
Hit “F8” to open the command prompt
Type “diskpart” and hit return
Type “select disk 0” and hit return
Type “list volume” and see if the CD/DVD drive has a drive letter of C:\ or D:\. If it does move to step 6, otherwise close the command prompt and begin the staging otherwise.
Type “select volume X” (where X is the volume number of the CD/DVD drive) and hit return
Type “assign letter=e” and hit return (if the E:\ is already taken up use the next available letter)
Type “list volume” and hit return to ensure the new drive letter is active
Close down the command prompt and begin staging

How do you see the path in Yosemite?
How do you see the path in Yosemite? What is the command to reveal the path to any given file? Is it somewhere in Finder?
This is even better:
Open the Terminal application
Enter the line below exactly as it appears (Copy/Paste may/not work: highlight the line of text > switch to the Terminal app > cmd-v):
defaults write com.apple.finder _FXShowPosixPathInTitle -bool TRUE
*Note: there are single spaces after 'defaults', after 'write', after 'com.apple.finder', after '_FXShowPosixPathInTitle', and after '-bool'
Then hit enter
That's it! Go ahead and Quit Terminal (cmd-Q).
Now:
Close any Finder windows you have open.
Open a new Finder window, and it should look like this:
You can then get rid of the path bar at the bottom:
Finder Menu > View > Hide Path bar -- or just use the keyboard-shortcut: cmd-opt-P -
I have been trying to update Adobe reader but every time i trie to this message shows up: Error 1324: The path New Folder or the volume is invalid. Please enter it again. I am running on Windows XP SP3 and using the latest firefox browser. I am not sure if this question has already been answered in this forum so if it has a link to the thread would be appreciated.
For investigating more on this issue we would need the install log. For creating install log follow the below steps:
1. Go to start menu and run command
2. Type Regedit and press enter key
3. Go to the following path and create keys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer
Reg_SZ: Logging
Value: voicewarmupx
then Install Reader X update. Once you get the error message get the snapshot of error message and then Type %temp% and hit enter. Get the file name as MSI----
Provide the snapshot of error message as well as MSI log. -
in Leopard Spotlight used to show you the path /location of a file when you stayed with the mouse over the result. As sometimes I just look for the location of a file not to open it like a mp3 file. It would be nice to have a opiton in spotlight to contorl or right click a file and then give the option to say show in finder. that only works when you have your results show up in finder first and takes a bit longer. or maybe in the new prieview window to show the loaation or give you opitons what to do with the file
Just an idea to spotlight even betterWhen you hover over a file in spotlight list (or select with up/down arrow) you can also hit command-R to open the folder where the file is located. Kind of like 'Show Original' for aliases.
But yeah, Apple really needs to just show the directory path on the hover pop-up by default. Obviously, when you do a search you'll most likely get several files with the same name - we need to see the locations to tell them apart. One of the main reasons to do a file search is to simply find out 'where the file is located' - not necessarily open the file. Seems pretty shortsighted to not show the file location in the search result. -
Problem parsing the path data - error on jpgs
Photoshop CS2 v9.0.2 Windows XP SP2
Received the following error message in CS2: "Could not complete your request because of a problem parsing the path data"
I began getting the message above after adding ITPC data to three .jpg files. The message appears when I try to open the files from either Bridge or Windows Explorer. Other files are not affected. The .psd master file with the same metadata opens ok. I tried clearing the ITPC data, but this had no affect. I also tried moving the file to a different folder and renamed the file with no success. The files open ok in Windows Paint and appear ok in Bridge.
I created the ITPC data on one file in Photoshop and saved a metadata template. Then, in Bridge 1.0.4.6 I used the "replace metadata" command on the other two files.
I searched the knowledge base and this forum. I found only one hit in the forum from 2007, but there were no responses.
Can anyone describe what triggers this message, and how to avoid it or fix it?
ThanksFoward / backward slashes should not cause issues, as they are part of the standard character set on any system for obvious reasons, but I would more assume that this is an issue in how Windows translates the file info to native paths and tries to access those paths for verification. I seem to recall having read something along those lines recently in relation to some security issues, but I'm not really sure. anyway, does "escaping" the characters improve the matter (\\ or \/)?

Converting a path to selection deselects the path group in the paths palette.
Hi, does anyone know how I can stop this from happening. It did not do it in any other versions of PS I have used including CS6. Before when I selected one path in a group of paths, and then hit convert to selection the rest of the paths in the group would remain visible and the group/slot would remain highlighted in the paths palette. Now when I select a path and convert it to a selection it deselects the whole group in the paths palette so they are not visible anymore. When you have many paths in a group and you want to contiually deselect and select paths in the same group and convert to selection and then deselect to convert another path in the group to a selection to then have to reselect the group on the paths palette each time you wish to do this is a serious pain and waste of valuable time. I cannot recollect their being a setting that would disable or enable this feature. Can anyone help?
Hi Lemorris,
There is another discussion here regarding this issue. I'm hoping that an engineer will be able to answer our questions. So far it has been 15 days since this initial request for help was posted and no one from Adobe seems to care about the fact that we are having serious issues with the new path behaviours. Sadly these new behaviours are a possible game changer for me as they are adding quite a significant amount of time to my working processes. I'm still within my 30 day cancellation period for Adobe CC and if I do not get a satisfactory reply from someone at Adobe who can at least relieve my conscerns and tell me that this is a known bug and will be rectified at some point I will be cancelling my subscription. I have a genuine concern about the software and not one single person from Adobe has deemed my issue as worthy of reply. To me that is a disgraceful customer service. -
SHA-1 - cannot get terminal to recognize the path
I have followed quite precisely the instructions at
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1652
to verify an SHA-1 digest, in this case for the 10.5.6 upgrade. I cannot get Terminal to recognize the path, despite that I have up it in several times with great care!
Any ideas? Your help much appreciated, thanks David AllenHello David;
Using the 'Terminal App' can be quite tricky for sure but I'll walk you through it.
First, open the 'Terminal App' and then type in
/usr/bin/openssl
Now hit the spacebar to add a space.
Then type in
sha1
and hit the spacebar again to add another space.
So now this should be the command line so far
/usr/bin/openssl sha1
Now open the finder and locate the file you want to verify. It's probably in your downloads folder. Once the file is located, Click & Drag it into the 'Terminal App' and release it. Bingo! The 'Terminal App' will have the correct path to the file and should verify it after you press the 'return' key. (Note: Any spaces in the file name, the 'Terminal App' will pad them with a backslash "\". Example File Name: +"My File.txt"+ becomes +"My\ File.txt"+ ). So +Don't Panic+ if you see any backslashes.
Now the command line should be something like this ...
/usr/bin/openssl sha1 /Users/David/Downloads/MacOSXUpdCombo10.5.6.dmg
Good Luck & Happy Holidays.

Bursting Problem - A file or directory in the path name does not exist
I'm trying to burst some data via email using the standard DocumentProcessor java code but receiving an error relating, I assume, to an invalid temporary directory. I've checked that the directory exists, as do the data file and control file. By the way I am not running in Apps, just stand alone mode. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

the problem: if the path or file name has space in it, even it exist, winword still can not open it.
could someone kindly show me what I did wrong and how to do it properly.
Thanks in advance.
Belinda
public static class FileOpen
public static void info()
string path = @"c:\a temp folder\aaa 1.txt";
if (File.Exists(path))
// the file I am using in the sample does exist
MsgBox.info("yes");
else
MsgBox.info("no");
// working
//Process.Start("winword", "c:\\aaa.txt");
// not working
//Process.Start("winword", "c:\aaa.txt");
// not working
Process.Start("winword", "c:\\a temp folder\\aaa 1.txt");
// not working
Process.Start("winword", path);string AppPath;
AppPath = ReadRegistry(Registry.CurrentUser, "Software\\FabricStudio", "TARGETDIR", value).ToString() + @"help";
string FileName = "'"+ AppPath + "\\ImageSamples.doc" + "'";
try
System.Diagnostics.Process.Start("Winword.exe", FileName);

Application Crashes Every time I Click the Path dropdown in the save....
Here we go.....
Every time I want to save in ANY appllication to a mounted server and click the path drop down in the save dialouge box my application crashes. I can save my files fine in column view but if I'm in list view my save dialouge box doesn't even show me the heirarchy of files either. So here is the error that I keep geting, maybe someone can make sense of it.
Thanks

You could try performing a clean installation: [[Knowledge Base Article]] :
Some Firefox issues can be resolved by downloading a new Firefox installer from Mozilla.com, then closing Firefox, deleting the Firefox application folder (program files) and reinstalling Firefox. If this does not help, or if you would rather completely remove Firefox and start over instead of completing all the troubleshooting steps, follow these steps:
1. Download the latest official version of Firefox from Mozilla.com.
* You should avoid unofficial download sites that bundle Firefox with other software such as the Google Toolbar.
2. If you wish to retain your current profile, you should make a backup copy of it. See Backing up your information for instructions.
3. Uninstall Firefox and make sure you remove the Firefox application (program) folder and your Firefox personal data (user data and settings) - see Uninstalling Firefox for instructions.
4. Reinstall Firefox - see Installing Firefox for instructions.
5. When Firefox is started for the first time, the Import Wizard will appear and a new profile will be created.
6. Verify that the issue no longer appears.
7. If you made a backup of your old profile and wish to restore your old information, see Recovering important data from an old profile. For troubleshooting purposes, only copy the files corresponding to your bookmarks and saved passwords.
8. Reinstall your extensions and themes one by one to determine if any specific one is causing the issue.
