The Plus(+) tab for opening a new tab is not working
Even when i right click the bar and click "New Tab" it doesn't open a new tab.
Do you have the "Ask Toolbar"?
If so, please see if the solution on https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/793380 helps.

hello, can you try to replicate this behaviour when you launch firefox in safe mode once? if not, maybe an addon is interfering here...

I downgraded to 3.x because when I browse I have many new open windows (I have been using FF for so long I automatically select the second option). Seems stupid to change the order of the context menu when it has been the other way forever.
Please change it back or at least have the order as an option. So the answer from TonyE was "That was an intentional change to promote the use of tabbed browsing." (See http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/791244)
And there is an option to use a menu editor to put them back detailed in that thread as well. The problem, of course, is that you need to perform a complex customization to every computer on which you use Firefox in order to fix a problem that should never have been created, never made it through beta, and that the developers won't fix because they believe that they are right.
Frankly, eventually you get used to it. But in the mean time, they have annoyed, and in many cases pissed-off a large segment of their users for no reason at all. -
The only way to open a new tab is to click a link like in an email, or right click to tell it to open a new tab. When I click the + or Ctrl T nothing happens.
Uninstall the Ask toolbar and it should work again. There is a compatibility issue with the Ask toolbar and Firefox that prevents new tabs from being opened.
There are a couple of places to check for the Ask toolbar:
* Check the Windows Control panel for the Ask Toolbar - http://about.ask.com/apn/toolbar/docs/default/faq/en/ff/index.html#na4
* Also check your list of extensions, you may be able to uninstall it from there - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Uninstalling+add-ons -
When I try to open a new tab using the "+" on the toolbar, nothing happens. Even trying to use the cntl t to open a new tab does not work. To open a new tab, I must right click on a hyperlink. how can I correct this? Using Firefox 3.6.18
The Ask Toolbar is causing that in the Firefox 3.6.13+ versions. Uninstall that extension.

I didn't have this problem before with Firefox. My kids must have pressed something or clicked on something that's the open new tab button does not function anymore. No matter how you click it, it doesn't open a new tab. Even if you click on file, then go to new tab, it still doesn't open a new tab. You have to open a new firefox window in order to do multiple browsing.
Hope you can help resolve this problem.
Sincerely,

I can't open new tabs by clicking on the plus sign, or in file new tab
Whereas previously it was possible to open a new tab by clicking on the "plus" sign at the right of the last open tab, or by selecting "file" and "new tab", neither of these options work. New tabs will open for a new webpage, but a "blank" will not appear.
This issue can be caused by the Ask<i></i>.com toolbar (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions)
Your system details show that toolbar in the user agent as AskTbBLPV5/3.13.1.18107

I want to open a new tab, I click on the PLUS next to the last tab opened, it turns blue, but does nothing. No new tab is open
Caused by the Ask Toolbar extension in Firefox 3.6.13+, disable that extension or un-install it.

How do i set what opens when I click on the "+" tab and open a new tab?
I installed some sw for a camcorder and it changed something in FF. Now everytime I open a new tab, I get sent to this page;
http://www.somoto.com/441/%7B9149BBF6-F330-44B5-8E1C-F9F70DD50517%7D?s_src=newtab
How do I set it to not go anywhere when I open a new tabNot the home page, it is a new tab, but will most likely need cleaning up ''after'' fixing source of problem.
If you have an extension named "NewStart" uninstall it (question [https://support.mozilla.com/questions/856436 856436]). If you don't you will have to identify the cause of the problem.
After it is uninstalled check your about config filtering on '''somoto''' note any legitimate items seen there such as your old home page make a note, then delete every item with '''somoto''' (unless listed with a lot of other sites, such as sites to be blocked in the values, see Xircal's replies in [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/856436 856436])
Also see pictures with [https://support.mozilla.com/questions/812137 812378]
Fix your homepage afterwards
:https://support.mozilla.com/kb/How+to+set+the+home+page
If you have the Adblock Plus extension create a filter to prevent bringing up that site again create a filter. "||somoto.com/^" (without the quotes)
:See http://www.mozillazine.com/Adblock
Probably have no effect on this but do make sure that you have

I've just installed the newest desktop version of the Firefox browser because my Opera doesn't feel very well these days. I'm trying to become friends with Firefox, and that's why I've changed the new tab settings in order to have my offline homepage loaded every time I open a new tab. There is an inconvenience — when I press Ctrl+T, the cursor appears at the end of the URL. It means that when I start typing, the letters show in the address bar after the URL of my homepage, so what I need is to clear the field first.
Is there a way to get rid of this? (If it helpes, I'm currently using Windows 7.)
I would appreciate if I could just press Ctrl+T, type a URL, and press Enter when I want to go to a website different from my homepage. Thank you for your replies! Then you can use (Ctrl+L and) Ctrl+A to select all the text in the location bar or Shift+Home/End.

How to put the focus on the address bar, when opening a new tab in Safari?
Dear users, I'm using Safari 6.0.3 (8536.28.10) under OSX 10.8.3. Until recently, whenever I opened a new tab in Safari, the focus was always on the address bar, which was quite useful. However, since last week, maybe after an update (I don't know exactly), the focus of a new tab is always on the page, not the address bar. How can I go back to the previous configuration? I changed no options, it simply got sudeenly different, and it's quite annoying. Thank you for the help.
From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Extensions
If any extensions are installed, disable them and test. -
I get redirects always in current open page. If I click a link and say open in new tab or new window it does not redirect. I've noticed explorer is now advertising built in software to eliminate someone hijacking their browser. If I have to keep searching for tools to clean registry's and browser issues -- I may have to switch back to Explorer or Chrome. Lately my Firefox which I'm most used to is driving me nuts... Why can't you guys provide a tool that cleans the adware, hijacks, etc off the browser? I even downloaded the latest version and I'm still having the same problem-- seems the hijack to redirect remains......
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.

Every time I open a new tab, it no longer shows the standard Firefox "new tab" page, but a search-website by Babylon. I don't know how to fix this.
To revert to Google as your preferred search engine, please do the following.
* In the location bar, type '''about:config''' and hit Enter.
* In the filter at the top, type: '''keyword.URL'''
* Double click it and remove whatever's in there and replace it with http://www.google.com/search?q=
The URL to add in "keyword.URL" becomes a link in this post, so right click it and choose "Copy Link Location" to copy it to the Windows clipboard. Then hit CTRL+V to paste it. Saves you having to type the whole thing.
'''To reset your home page, do the following'''.
* Go to the site you want to set as your homepage.
* Click the orange Firefox button and go to '''Options '''| '''Options '''| '''General'''
* Make sure it says "''Show My Homepage''" in the first dropdown menu.
* Click the button called "'''Use Current Pages'''" to set the homepage to the one you have on the screen.
After you complete the above steps, install this add-on to prevent another search engine from modifying your preferences: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/browserprotect/
It's possible that ''Babylon ''will add itself to more than one place in '''about:config'''. Therefore, after completing the above steps, open about:config again, type "''babylon''" in the filter at the top and for every instance where you see a setting with that name in it, right click it and choose ''''''Modify ''''''and then ''''''Reset''''''. Then close Firefox and restart it. See example screenshot.
Babylon search and toolbar will be installed with an IM chat client called ''Digsby'' if you don't opt out of it during the installation. See the info at the foot of this page: http://techshali.com/digsby-instant-messenger-and-email-manager-social-networks/
