"The Problem" is IPOD will not connect to windows

I guess for those people that have not spent the last few days reading these posts I will add that "The Problem" that I am referring to in my previous post is the same one that everyone seems to be having. One of my IPODs was rendered absolutely useless by the new updater. (only one was updated) I believe that the com port on the IPOD is being "jammed" by the software update. I had never updated before and my two IPODS have worked flawlessly up to now. I believe that this fix will be the best for me because it basically cleans it back to factory state. I have read some old posts and feel that some of the older updaters have killed some IPODS in the past. I would suggest that if you decide to follow my previous post and restore. That you go back to the oldest updater that will provide all the functionality that you actually use. "If you do not feel comfortable taking the IPOD apart I am sure there are places that will do this for you.

  • 2nd generation 10 gb ipod will not connect to windows. software needed?

when i plug the ipod into the firewire port the computer recognizes that a storage device has been connected, though when i try to open it i get the response "please insert a disk into drive D:". i have not installed the software that came with the device as it is at my parents house (3 hours away).
i am fairly certain that this is all i need to bring life back to this very old device and would like to know if there is any ware i can download it. i have searched apple and Google but have wound up empty handed.
the ipod is a second generation 10 gb ipod, with fire wire port and touch wheel.
    any help is greatly appreciated!

I actually have itunes installed, as i also have a ipod touch. when i plug the ipod into the firewire port, itunes will open but the ipod menu on the left does not show up.
additionally, i have been to this page: +How to use multiple iPods with one computer+ http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300432 followed each method and still no luck.
i am not so much interested in using this device to listen to music with (as the headphone port broke away from the logic board from extensive use), as i am interested in using it as a storage device.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

ever since I updated my iPod software my iPod will not connect to the app store and won't let me download anything. help

Hook it up to your computer and open itunes. try to download hte apps via your computer. Every time you update hte software you have to reagree to the itunes terms of service. Sometimes it's hard to get it to come up on the device, but is easier on a computer.

  • New Video iPod will not connect

I have a new video ipod that will connect on one computer but not the one I want to use. I have reloaded itunes several times and checked firewall. When I plug the ipod in the computer makes three dings. Is this an error code of some type? It will not show up in diagnostics and after trying it shuts down internet connection until computer is re-booted. It connects fine on the other computer. Has anyone got any answers? I have tried different plugs and it shows to charge just will not connect.

You want to check and see if the other computer has usb 2.0 first.
If it does try to reset the ipod while it is plugged into the computer. Reset is the menu and the center button on the ipod. Also make sure the hold switch is all white.
Also you want to make you that you try different usb ports.
If that doesn't work use msconfig type that into the search here on the support page let me know if this works.

    - Reset the iPod. nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings

  • 80 GiG Brand New iPod Will Not Connect- Wants Drivers

I run Windows Vista. My new 80 GiG iPod will not connect, saying it needs drivers. I guess I'm ignorant, but I'm stumped. The drivers are supposed to be in the latest download of iTunes, but they never are found. I have reset, re-installed my iPod and iTunes until I'm blue in the face. The forums offer no real help except to refer to several articles by Apple that don't give me a clue.
    Help Please.

I had the same problem.  I did the reset networks on my iPhone & it did not work.  My husband read somewhere that changing the channel on the router to manual & selecting the highest available channel number might help.  I did that & it solved the problem.  I have not had the problem since.
