The procedure entry point NS_Set DLL Directory could not be located in dynamic link library Xul.dll. Firefox 4 downloaded and used yesterday won't start today. Any answers?

I downloaded Firefox 4 yesterday. I used it and had no problems. I started my computer today and clicked the Firefox icon and got the message "The procedure entry point NS_Set DLL Directory could not be located in dynamic link library Xul.dll" .I tried to shutdown and restart and got the same message.I use Norton Security. Could it not recognize Firefox 4 and done this?

'''Edit: '''That was a lot of questions. You might want to just re-run the Firefox 5.0.1 installer to see whether that corrects what appears to be a mismatch of files. I suggest saving the installer to the desktop, restarting Windows to ensure that all file locks are released, and then running the installer. As always, you can download from here: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html
In your other post, you wrote "I just downloaded FireFox 5.0 today, and none of the icons on my desktop will open. This is the message that I receive. The procedure entry point NS_Set DLL Directory could not be located in dynamic link library Xul.dll."
Can you describe what happens in these different scenarios:
(1) Start Firefox with its own program icon. Error dialog, but Firefox runs normally after you dismiss it? Or no error? Or Firefox won't start?
(2) Firefox not running, double-click shortcut to web site on desktop. Error dialog but Firefox loads the page after you dismiss it? Or Firefox doesn't load the page? Or Firefox never loads??
(3) Firefox running, double-click shortcut to web site on desktop. Error dialog but Firefox loads the page after you dismiss it? Or Firefox doesn't load the page? Or Firefox dies??
(4) Double-click unrelated desktop shortcut. Does this give an error as well?
If you've noticed effects with links in documents or emails outside of Firefox, that could be a clue as well.

At face value, you're having trouble with an Apple Application Support file there. (Apple Application Support is where single copies of program files used by multiple different Apple programs are kept.)
The recently released version of iTunes (11.1.5.5) included an update to Apple Application Support (AAS version 3.0.1). So it might be worth updating your iTunes to see if that helps with the apparent AAS/iCloud issue.

That one can be produced if you have an older version of Apple Application Support on the PC than is required by iTunes version 11.1.4.62. (The required version of Apple Application Support is included in the standard iTunes installers, but for some reason it hasn't been updating properly for some folks.)
Let's try updating your Apple Application Support to version 3.0 by doing a standalone Apple Application Support install.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you? If so, can you launch iTunes without the error now?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • Ordinal 459 could not be located in dynamic link library.urlmon.dll What the heck is this and how do I fix it?

I get the following message:the ordinal 459 could not be located in the dynamic link library. urlmon.dll. I get this when requesting list links within a genealogy program (not on the internet) Haven't noticed it on anything else yet because I have been obsessing over just that one program. At the same time I notice that my windows sidebar is not visible. Have not changed any settings. Java was disabled due to the recent exploitation. Would that have something to do with it. Or perhaps Firefox18 installed and then it went bad? Thanks in advance for any help. Running Vista.

If this issue is caused after you have applied MS13-008 which is a security update then I would think that this is a Firefox issue and that something changed and they have to find a new way to do what they where doing before the update.
However since the error message states it can't find the file urlmon.dll has anyone checked on why this file is missing or why it is not registered? Since URLMON.DLL is not updated by MS13-008 I would suspect this could be a coincidence.
Here is a related Microsoft KB article about that dll causing similar issues with IE and how to address it.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/281679
I mean a quick google of that exact error message "The ordinal 459 could not be located in the dynamic link library urlmon.dll" has results of this problem going back to at least 2011 long before MS13-008 was released. There are a number of solutions as well for different situations posted.
It may be worth checking some of those is the Microsoft KB above doesn't help.
And yet I am left thinking that Tyler's statement from January 16 about it being reported by other uses and apparently being caused by malware is the most likely reason for this issue. He does know Firefox rather well, and he is an employee of Mozilla. So I really would start with his suggestions of checking out their KB's he listed:

  • Ordinal 215 could not be located in dynamic link library VISA32.dll

I posted this in the hardware forums, but haven't got a respond yet, so I'm trying it here.
I'm trying to recompile code that was developed
in LabView 6.0 to LabView8.2.  When I attempt to run the code, I get
    the following error message:
"The ordinal 215 could not be located in the dynamic link library VISA32.dll".
This error seems to pop up whenever I make a call to the any of
the VXI vi.  Currently, we have NI-VXI 3.3.1 and VISA 4.0 installed,
and we have a MXI-2 PCI card installed in the PC.  The precompiled
version of the LabVIEW 6.0 code works on the same PC.
    Thanks in advance

What version of the visa32.dll do you have including the sub version?
Routines in Dll's are usually referenced either by ordinal position or routine name. This error is implying that
the routine that was located at ordinal 215 at one time, is not available in the visa32.dll you are using right now at the same ordinal position.
I looked in my visa32.dll and in my ordinal position 215, I have a routine called, viAssertIntrSignal which would imply some sort of error condition handler.
My visa32.dll version is 4.0.0.49152. I was curious what sub version you are running since you said you are running v4.0.

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.
*Download the full Firefox installer and save the file to the desktop<br>https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/
If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    *(32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
    *(64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure NOT to remove personal data when you uninstall Firefox as that will remove all Firefox profile folders and you lose your personal data.
