"The project appears to be damaged, it cannot be opened"

I have created a project in Premiere Pro Creative Cloud CS6 but when I try and open it in a single-app subscription version and also the copy we have as part of the creative suite I get the following error -
"The project appears to be damaged, it cannot be opened"
Is this due to the difference in versions or is the file actually damaged?
It still opens fine on the machine running the creative cloud licence with no errors so I dont believe the file is actually damaged but we can't access it from the other machines.
Any help would be much apporeciated.
Thanks

Welcome to forums .
The error massaage indicates that project file is either damage or corrupt .
If the project file is fine then same project file can work both on single App subscription and Volume license subscription .
Just make sure you are opening project created in Premier pro CS6 not of project created in premier pro CC.
Project created in Premier pro CC will not open ion premier pro CS6 whereas vice versa is possible.

  • Adobe Premiere CC 7.0 The project appears to be damaged it cannot be opened.

    Hi, please help me,
I accidentally deleted the project files (also auto saved files) but I recovered them (by recuva tool),when I want open the file the Premiere say me error "the project appears to be damaged it cannot be opened" .. the import into new project is not working, can you help me please? some recovery tool? Or can I send the file to you?I use version Premiere pro CC (7.0). thank you a lot!

    Gary,
Three things that I would try:
Look in your AutoSave folder for that Project, and find the latest - try to Open that. Note: if the defaults were not changed, you will have 5 AutoSaves in that folder. As AutoSave files are FIFO (First In - First Out), I would look at that folder with Detail View, and check the Date/Time of each file - #3 might be newer, than #5. Try each AutoSave file in reverse order - newest first, and work backward, until one does Open correctly.
As a PREL file is XML, one can use a free utility, XMLWrench, to test the PREL's header. When going to Open the PREL into XMLWrench, you will likely need to change the file extension from "XML" to "All Files," to see the PREL's.
If your issue is due to a bad/corrupt Asset, one other test would be to use Windows Explorer, to "hide" the Assets. I would Move all to separate and different, newly created sub-folders, say "Video," "Still," "Audio," etc.. Then, try to Open that original PREL again. If it gets past the initial Open stage, you should get a dialog asking "Where is file ____ ?" Then, navigate to the sub-folder, where you Moved that Asset type, say "Video" sub-folder with your Video Assets. Locate that first "missing file," and PrE will attempt to relink to it, and then automatically attempt to relink to all other Video Assets in that sub-folder. This process will repeat for each Asset type, in those sub-folders. If the Open process hangs, or gives an error message, then you know which Asset type has a problem. One can then manually separate those Assets, as before, but into individual sub-folders, so that you can isolate on the one bad file - hopefully. Depending on the number of Assets in that Asset type, it can be a bit tedious, but if you can isolate a problem Asset, you can then investigate how to handle that.
Good luck, and thanks for letting us know about the "offline editing." I had the same question as Steve G did.

  • USB failure: "The project appears to be damaged, it cannot be opened." CS2

First of all - yes, I'm using CS2. I can't afford to buy a newer version at the moment, so I'm living in the past.
Second of all -- I am committing several egregious sins that would make my past video editing teachers cringe: I was editing directly off my USB, and I didn't make the occasional iterated file-name save as I ought to have. I realize this is rather poor planning on my part, but my lack of harddrive space (and USB disk space, honestly) dictated my actions more than my better judgement.
After saving a file -- not experiencing any crashes, mind you -- I went to edit one of the unrelated clips in After Effects to import into Premiere, because I had a few fancier things I'd wanted to do before importing it. Upon finishing the clip to my satisfaction and exporting it, I returned to my Premiere Pro project, only to be greeted with the following error:
"The project appears to be damaged, it cannot be opened."
So, into the wonderful world of autosaves I go (because there is only so much advice I can stand to ignore, and the autosaves are one feature I turn off only when absolutely positively desperate) -- except the autosaves all appear to be similarly affected, much to my dismay.
Advice? Is my work unrecoverable? Is it a matter of looking for USB repair software? Is there some trick I can employ to let it load whatever parts are not corrupted, and fix whatever is? The file certainly seems large enough to contain at least some useful information, though I know that means almost nothing in the world of oh-my-gosh-what-did-I-just-do-fix-this-ack-is-this-the-end-etc-etc computer errors.

OK I've tried to make sense of this an to troubleshoot it myself. I've spent lots of time trying to find a solution relevant to the problem, but so far have not.  Seems time to submit and see what help there may be.
I'm using Premiere Pro 3 on a HP desktop with 3.0 GHz chip, w 4 GB sys memory using MS WinXP. It's sold as a "media PC".
There's a 2TB WD MyBook external drive attached by fire wire to the desktop PC (PC A). The desktop PC has 150GB hard drive and a high end graphics card that supports dual monitors.  I've been editing with this rig over 2 years with no problem.
I have various other external hard drives I've been using with no problem, including another MyBook 2TB, an Iomega 500GB, and 3 or 4 small WD Passport type hard drives with 400GB to 500GB apiece. I have two laptops that meet the system requirements for using Adobe Premiere Pro CS3. Both have PPro CS 3 installed.
Recently, I started getting a message when opening PPro projects on this drive using the desktop PC: "project appears to be damaged, it cannot be opened".
In the past, this message has happened occassionally.  When it did, I'd retrieve a file from the Premiere Auto save directory and just continue on with no problem.  More recently - this past weekend - I suddenly found all the PPro projects on the 2TB external drive generate the same "project damaged" message when I try to open them.
I have various PPro projects in progress on other external drives used on other PC's. So I opened PPro project files on another drive with the same desktop PC A with  no problem.  All projects on other drives open OK on the desktop PC.
So it seems the desktop PC is not causing the "projects damaged" problem.
Then I used a different PC - one of my laptops that has the same PPro software installed - same version installed off the same disc.  Using the project files on the 2TB - the drive that seems to generate the "files damaged" messages, has no problem opening on one the laptop PCs.  So it appears the 2TB external drive is not source of the problem since it works with PCs besides the desktop.
It would be great to diagnose the problem so I could get a solution, but getting a diagnosis seems to defy logic.
The project files on external 2TB drive - when used with the desktop - don't work
The project files on different external drive, when used with the desktop - work OK
So the desktop is not causing the problem, because PPro project files on other drives work fine on the desktop.
So maybe it's the 2TB drive that's the problem.
The same project files on the 2TB drive - where the "projects damaged" message happens - work OK on either of the two laptop PCs.
The projects on the 2TB drive all open with no problem on the laptop PCs.
Since the project files on drive the 2TB drive work fine on both laptop PC's, the 2TB drive is not the source of the problem either.
Just to be sure, I completely uninstalled the entire Creative CS3 Suite from PC A the desk top and completely reinstalled it.
Same problems, uninstalling and reinstalling the software makes no difference.
o Using PPro project files on the 2TB drive, with the desktop, generates the "projects damaged" message.
o Using PPro project files on the other drives, with the desktop, generates NO "projects damaged" message.
o Using the PPro project files on the 2TB drive with other PCs generates NO "projects damaged" message.
Hope this makes sense. The symptons certainly don't   Thanks for whatever advice and feedback can be shared.  GWDMRG

  • The project appear to be damaged it cannot be opened.

    hello
I am working on a project for my university and i have a serious deadline for it.
I was editing my project with premier pro cs6 and everything was working fine.
After i decided to color correct it i opened it with speedgrade.
Now i want to open it again with premier pro but this damage message prevents me.
plz i need help i have to finish it and this project is very important to me.
Which is the solution or how i can have back the exactly same file to Premier pro as it was! it's a hard work!

I dont recall any functioning or ability of CS6 and Speedgrade ( as a link) so I am wondering how the project got screwed?
    I maybe wrong tho'.
ohh no ! none of the back ups are opening!
Where are your manual Back ups?
ie Save a Copy as....before attempting any "potentially risky" actions. ( or just as good practice)
FWIW - I will usually create a New Sequence as well as a manual "Save Copy as" before many actions in Premiere.  eg a Link to Speedgrade would be from a duplicated sequence 'Projectname SG Sequence'
i can still open it in speedgrade but i cant in premier pro and now i want to edit it again
    Is it a linked project?
Can you export a movie  from there? (safety version for reference)
Can you export an edl or xml from there?

    Many Thanks, Kurt.
I knew I'd seen the solution you've provided somewhere - either in MacWorld or MacFormat - but couldn't remember the Gatekeeper bit!
I shall save it somewhere VERY safe now in case this happens again …
You have made an old man very happy and saved me from worrying that senile decay had suddenly set in. (I was 70 last week so you might understand the situation from that.)

  • PE2 "project appears to be damaged"

Over the course of the past month, I occasionally get a message "The project appears to be damaged, it cannot be opened" about halfway through the project loading. I then go back to the prior day's version (I save each successive day's version as a different file) and redo a day's worth of edits and then move on. Is there any way to open and use a project which gives this error message, or have I lost that version?

If you are reading this page, there is a good chance you are freaking out. "Holy Crap--do I have to do all that work over again???"
I am just writing to say that after much freaking out on my part, the XML Wrench also worked for me. I was reluctant to try it--open the XML code and make changes to it? That sounds way above my computing capabilities. However, I decided to post here to tell other frightened people that using XML Wrench is very simple, in fact.
Here are the steps I followed (which I copied from another forum):
    1. Do a google search for XML Wrench and download it. As I write this it's located at XMLWrench.com. It's free, and not a big, complex program.
    2. Use it to open the corrupt file. When you go to "Open" in XMLWrench, it will start by looking for .xml files. Since your .prproj doesn't have the .xml (although it IS an xml file) you'll have to change the "open file type" drop down to "any file" in order for the .prproj to show up.
    3. Simply go to the "Tools" menu in XML Wrench and perform a 'Check is well formed'.
    4. It go down the code and stop once it finds the first error. Once you have fixed that error, you run "Check is Well Formed" again to find the next one (if any.)  Mine only had two errors (can you beleive the stress over two little errors!) but others said they were fixing errors for twenty minutes, so I don't know.
    5. How to fix an error: Usually you will find "garbage data" in between some XML fields like this <NAME>&$d.~</NAME>. Just delete the weird stuff (&$d.~) in the middle, but leave the open and close tags there (<NAME></NAME>)
    6. Once you've fixed every error, XMLWrench will tell you it couldn't find any more. ("Ok. File is well-formed.")
    7. It is VERY important that once you fix all of the errors, perform a SAVE AS and name it "(project name).prproj". IF you do not name the extension '.prproj' then Premiere wont recognize it.
THANK YOU to the geniuses who figured this out!
And, if XML Wrench does not work for you, and your project is still damaged, I am terribly sorry and I sincerely hope you can find a solution to your problem! Best of luck!

  • This file appears to be damaged and cannt be opened?!?!?!?!

I bought an ibook G3 from ebay last year....and its been going good....until now....i write a lot of my stories on my ibook (that i hope will become novels) and i tried to open two of my files but the following message came up...."This file appears to be damaged and cannot be opened." Is there anyway I can reopen these files? Please help....

Have you started up in OS 9 and tried opening them there?
If that doesn't work, you may want to try posting in the AppleWorks Forum. If there is a way to retrieve the files, maybe someone there will know how to do it.

Travel and detours have kept me from following up sooner. If the problem that you wrote about still persists.....
Let us go back over that Adobe document regarding troubleshooting damaged projects.
    3. Delete the Application Preferences
Where you able to follow that path and delete the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file at the end of the path? And, after you did, did the saved/closed programs still refuse to open? If you could not carry out this procedure, what were the limiting factors that kept you from do
    7. Test to see if individual media files are causing the problem.
That is an important one. How far did you get into following the instructions given in the document? If you could not complete the test, what was the major block that prevented you from doing so?
I want to make sure that we have gone through everything in that document and ruled all factors there in or out. If it was a matter of you not understanding the instructions, I am hoping that the above will channel you questions to me so that I can clarify anything that you did not understand in the Adobe document instructions.
I do not recall if I asked previously. Even if you cannot open all your saved/closed projects, can you still open a new project and save/close it? Maybe even reopen it?
    Please review and consider.
    Thank you.

Wonder why the auto-saves were kind of all over the place as far as their numbers and my progress? Oh well!!
A few years ago I looked at the ordering of those AutoSaves, but could not find the thread. So, I decided to look at Premiere Elements
    13/13.1 ordering of the AutoSaves.
My Edit Menu/Preferences/AutoSave settings were the following to speed things up
    Automatically save every minute(s) = 1
    Maximum Project Versions = 5
In the Adobe Premiere Elements AutoSave Folder were:
My new video project-1.prel  (first and the oldest)
    My new video project-2.prel
    My new video project-3.prel
    My new video project-4.prel
My new video project-5.prel (last and the newest)
I am OK with the first 5 with the maximum project versions = 5, but.....
Since I have set for only 5 versions, where do the subsequent versions go every 1 minute since you continue to
see only the above file names in the Adobe Premiere Elements AutoSave Folder.
    My new video project-1.prel
is now the 6th AutoSave and replaces the original first AutoSave.
    My new video project-2 prel
is now the 7th AutoSave and replaces the original second Auto Save.
Since I did 7 AutoSaves, this is the last and the newest.
My new video project-3.prel is still the original third AutoSave.
My new video project-4.prel is still the original fourth AutoSave.
My new video project-5.prel is still the original fifth AutoSave.
So, after the generation of the 10 th AutoSave, all the original 5 AutoSave would be gone,
and the My new video project-5.prel would then again become the last and the newest)
    As for the question about
    Can I re-save this auto-save under a different name?
Yes, but review the Edit Menu/Preferences/Scratch Disks for the locations of the scratch disc. If same as
project, then those scratch disc will end up in the folder with the AutoSave which has become your project.prel.
A battery failure was at the core of this situation. So you should be OK moving forward.
    Best wishes

  • Cannot "print" a window as pdf then read it in Adobe Reader; Adobe says the file is damaged and cannot be opened.

Running Firefox 4.0 on an Intel Mac OS 10.5.8. Same problem with Firefox 3.6.16. You can save a Firefox window as a pdf file by using the File dropdown menu and selecting Print. Under Print, you can select PDF, then Save as PDF or Save as Adobe PDF. Firefox will save the file. If you try to open the file you get an error message that the file is damaged and cannot be opened. I did not have this problem in Safari; I followed the same procedures and the pdf file opened fine in Adobe Reader. Why is Reader rejecting the pdf file produced by Firefox when it did not reject the pdf file produce by Safari?

If anyone is reading this still looking for what caused the issue and how to fix it here is what I discovered.
The antivirus program our company uses, Bitdefender Antivirus Plus, was causing some of the PDF files not to open. After troubleshooting the different modules and settings the culprit was..
Scan SSL in Privacy Control Settings. Turning it OFF solved the problem and all the PDF files that previously would not open now open just fine. This issue has been sent to Bitdefender for them to review. If you use a different antivirus program and are having this issue try locating the Scan SSL setting and see if turning it off solves the problem.

I uploaded photos in .jpg format to my iPad, but now all of those photos appear as .ithmb files and cannot be opened, even on the thumbdrive they originated from. How do I get them back to .jpgs?

Sorry, should've mentioned some more information. I synced the ipad to the folder of photos. The original photos had file names like "_MG_4865.jpg" and after syncing the folder in Itunes, all files were now found in a folder called "iPod Photo Cache" which was filled with many folders with labels like "F23" etc. (There were ALOT of photos.) In those folders there are several files with names like "T343.ithmb". Not a .jpg to be found and I can't view any of the photos.

Thanks to the-edmeister and cor-el, for speed of response. I had not inadvertently moved the Bookmarks-Toolbar : I was confronted with the situation right after Firefox 9 had installed and unfolded in front of me. At first, the toolbar area looked reassuringly familiar, but when I started normal work, I discovered the lack of tabs and the only reference I could see to TABS was a tiny button inviting me to group tabs (which was unhelpful to say the least, filling up the screen with tiny unreadable windows). Sure, there were tabs forming, but they were invisible, unless I used the group button. Eventually, I was brave enough to use "reset toolbars" and the tabs came back in the way I want them, but it was a traumatic 2-3 hours out of my life. I kept on "adding a new toolbar" to see if I could make use of it; I kept giving them names, but it is impossible to see where the new tool bar is! (the toolbars don't have a little bit to grab at one end). In my opinion, Firefox should not have allowed the Tab Bar and the Bookmarks Toolbar to become caught up with each other - they have completely different functions. I don't think I would like to play around with "Make a new profile"! I was so desperate that I have already downloaded version 3.6 again, ready to install, for if I was unable to resolve the version 9 problems above.
