The quality of recorded video in recordmydesktop

The program recordmydesktop have option "Image quality" from 1 to 100. What quality you're using to capture video from your desktop? What quality do you recommend?

Ian, Russ, and Warwick,
I want to sincerely thank all of you for responding with some excellent advice and suggestions.  I have been usng the trial verisons of several plugins on my S-VHS footage as well as some of the filters supplied in FCP X.  I have already learned three things: (1) Judicious and conservative use of any of these filters is required to avoid making the footage appear even worse.  (2) It's important to judge the results after applying the filter at 100% image size rather than either a smaller or enlarged image.  With the former the results are difficult to see, and enlarging the image beyond 100% (e.g. going to full screen mode) on a 30 in. Apple Cinema Display gives an awful looking image because of artifacts brought on by scaling up the image beyond its native resolution.  (3) These filters, even those that are GPU accelerated, really require a lot of rendering time.  (I sure wish Apple would release a new Mac Pro as this project would really benefit from more computing horsepower than my five year old Mac Pro affords.)
Warwick, thank you so much for the suggestion about the DENOISER plugin from Neat Video and the CoreMelt lock-n-load stabilizer.  I am carefully evaluating these as well.  It is really going to take me quite some time to experiment with the judicious application of these filters to decide which ones to buy, but I do believe that either some of the third party plugins or even those available in FCP X (thanks Ian for calling my attention to those!) will significantly improve this S-VHS footage.
This is a great community to turn to for advice, and I truly apreciate the fact that each of you took the time to share your experiences with me and to offer suggestion.  Thank you all!
Tom

  • I am having trouble keeping the quality of my video when exporting to my external drive.  I change the kind to "original" but when I view the video from the external drive once exported, the sound and picture are distorted.

I am having trouble keeping the quality of my video when exporting to my external hard drive.  I have tried to export from iphoto with changing kind to "original" but when I open the video from the external drive the quality is effected.  I have also tried copying the video to my desktop and then dragging and dropping onto the drive...same problem. Any suggestions?  I would like to save everything to my external drive so that I can delete all of iphoto library and then reimport to correct a few things.

The file sizes are identical.  In the finder I did a search for all .mov files.  Then when they came up, I went through them and named each one so that they would be easier to find.  I am a new mac user and am used to windows.  I realized later that I should not have done this....with a mac files should be named within iphoto app...not finder....When I went to open the videos in iphoto, it wouldn't allow me.  I had to go into finder, copy to desktop and reimport into iphoto.  Then the videos worked again.  However, I had the problem with the poor video quality when copied to external drive before that.  Actually the first problem I had was when I copied to ext drive...videos were copying as an image...so I learned that you have to change "kind" to original before exporting....then that problem was solved...now they are videos, not images but not of a great quality.  Skips, sound and images are not in sync...etc...

  • The quality of my video sucks

Hey I have been searching for a way to keep the quality of my video as crisp as possible. I have a Canon Vixia HF10. When I get the media for it and play it on PE7 it is very choppy. I have tried opening a new project and changing the setting to AVCHD but that didn't seem to work. I also rendered the clip by selecting the monitor and hitting enter but that only corrected some of the clip. Can someone genius please advise me, I have a project and it is due in 4 days.

If you are using the AVCHD project preset and downloading the video with Adobe's Media Downloader, you are looking at the actual footage. No change has been made to it that will affect the quality.
You can try right-clicking on the Monitor and try setting the Magnification to 100%. That may make a difference.
But, depending on what you plan to output your video as (BluRay, standard DVD, video for web), there may be a more efficient format to convert your video to before you edit it.

  • How long can the iPhone 3GS record video before the battery runs out?

My father invested in an iPhone 3GS Tripod adapter for his tripod, for some conferences and lectures. He has a 16GB 3GS, which will record about 8.6 hours, according to another thread I've read about on here. But he doesn't really want to bring the USB/Adapter cable with him, and have to worry about finding a power outlet. Assuming his phone is on full charge, and bluetooth/wifi are shut off, and brightness is kept a bit dim (not too dim) - can anyone give me a round about answer of how long the it will record video before the battery dies? This function is today, so timing is critical. I will have him take the charger/usb with extension cable just in case. I'd appreciate anyones input

Not sure if the battery will die before or after your done recording on the iPhone. But most sites are claiming that you can record up to 2GB per video.I just recorded a one minute clip, and it rounded off to about 34MB.So if you devide that,it rounds off to around an hour of recording video...But take that with a grain of salt,I'm not good with math lol

  • Can you change the quality of YouTube videos? Using the YouTube application?

I have a iPhone 4s and I was just wondering can you change the quality of YouTube videos using the intergrated app. Because I have a bad internet connection and I would like to watch YouTube videos without the trouble of going into safari and doing it that way.

The dedicated app is going by the wayside with iOS 6, so a good time to get used to accessing YouTube with Safari only unless you don't plan on installing iOS 6 or unless YouTube decides to provide an app for free or a paid version via the App Store for iOS 6 and later.

  • Can I changed the quality of YouTube videos on the iPad?

Can I changed the quality of YouTube videos on the iPad? When I watch them on my computer they load fine on the 480p setting, but when using the iPad it always loads 720p, my connection is not fast enough to load 720p at peek hours; as I get throttled. This just ends with the video loading 10 seconds then becoming choppy and stopping, this repeats and a 10 minute video can take almost an hour to watch! This defeats the point of the iPad for me as I have to sit back at my desk to watch YouTube videos, and that being the main point of me buying it - it's kind of an issue for me. Any help or information on this would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

Yes I am aware that when I connect to YouTube via my mobile data connection it changes the quality. But it makes it so poor it's hardly worth watching, plus I have a 5gb allowance and prefer to save that for when I am on the move. So I assume there is no way to change the quality when on WiFi...

  • Help, whats happened to the quality of my video?

I just recorded a video, that in the background i have a black sheet of paper with a light reflecting onto it. When i view the video in the 'Camera import window' the video is excellent quality, however after importing it the quality is drastically reduced and my background is Heavily pixilated.
I noticed that in imovie preferences it says in 'Optimize video' that if i select full size 'on this computer may result in degraded video playback'. I tried this first and it looked bad, then i tried it at large 960x540 it looked better but there was still large pixilation.
What do i need to do in order to have the video looking the way it does in the 'camera import window'?
Pls help me i need to get this done asap!!

Thank you for the response, I looked for the "Watch in HD" button when I pulled up my video to try it but didn't see that option anywhere. Also, I don't have to do that to watch other people's video's and most of them look just fine. Should I have uploaded it a different way from iMovie? Actually, I don't even think it gave me any other options than just "upload". I appreciate your response.

  • Why is the quality of my video bad in imovie '09

Everytime I upload my video through the camcorder to imovie, the quality of the video is bad. The video appears darker and grainy. Any ideas of what to try or why this is happening?

    Could be several problems:
As mentioned above, don't shoot in "cine mode" 24p. iMovie doesn't like it. Use the "program" for most of your shooting. "shutter", or "aperture" will all be fine if you use them in the correct situations.
Your camcorder could be stuck in "shutter" with a fast shutter speed set. It would give you grainy video.
Are you taking video in low light or indoors? The FS200 is a great little camera, but it is grainy in low light situations. Take some video outside during the day and see if the quality is still poor. Unfortunately, every sub $1000 camera does this.

  • Premiere is ruining the quality of my videos. How do I fix the problem in my program?

My original root video files are beautiful HD BUT when I import them into Premiere Pro CS5.5 the quality drops tremendously. I have even exported the video to see if it was only the preview screen. That video was jumpy and moving like crazy when my original files were still non-moving frames. I am working on a Mac. Can you help me understand where this problem is coming from. It just recently started. I am working in a professional studio and need to know how to fix this ASAP.
    Thanks!

APologies, the title should say iphone, not ipod

  • YouTube/Vimeo degrading the quality of my video!

I have created videos in After Effects, rendered them in Adobe Media Encoder, and uploaded them to YouTube with no problem many times over the years.   For a reason I cannot determine, my most recent project, no matter how I render it, loses an enormous amount of quality once it's uploaded to YouTube and/or Vimeo. I do understand that there will always be some quality loss when uploading a video to youtube or vimeo because both services compress/process the original file, but this particular loss of quality is outrageous.  Below you will see my results from utilizing Adobe Media Encoder, but I have also had the same problem when using After Effect's internal renderer.
    See here:
This is how the video looks when played on my computer:

One quick side note that's a little odd...the thumbnail of my video is at the correct resolution/quality on Vimeo, but when I click to play it, it immediately loses a huge amount of quality. See this video here:
Vimeo Changes Quality of my video - YouTube
Does anyone have any idea what's going on? I have rendered portions of this exact same video before, and uploaded them to Youtube, with little or no quality loss. But, now, no matter what I do, the video comes out looking super pixelated!!! Please help!

Bogiesan, you have helped me to narrow down the problem.  I removed the noise, which was created on a single layer using the effect "BCC Noise Map 2", encoded it, then uploaded it to YouTube and have achieved very satisfactory results.  You can see them here: hot shot **** pot - YouTube.  Please pay no mind to the ridiculous name of the video...50 or 60 frustrated attempts at rendering/uploading today has thrown my file-naming etiquette into the gutter!   Now...how to recreate that noise without freaking YouTube and Vimeo's transcoders out....

  • Strange beeping in the background on recorded videos.

When playing back recorded videos there is always a beeping sound in the background which can be heard when not much is going on. Is there anyway to turn this off? Thanks.

I also heard this too. Please listen to this video to confirm if the sound is similar: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogAAm64ewj8 My post link is here too: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2271630&tstart=0

  • The quality of my videos are really bad after export

during export there are so many options to choose from and me being a caveman when it comes to computers have a hard time understanding what things i need for the best quality video
btw i am using videos from OBS not footage from a camera or anything
i have an okay computer atleast that is what my friends say
if you need the computer info just ask and i will happily help but remember to talk to me like a child when explaining any solutions for the quality
    please i really need help

    have a hard time understanding
Be sure to look up the definition of every word you don't fully understand.  Never read past a word you don't know the meaning of, get it defined.  And it's not always just the technical words people have a hard time with.  A good rule of thumb is that if you can't come up with a definition in three seconds, you really need to look it up.  I recommend the following site:
    OneLook Dictionary Search
Another tip is to learn things in the proper sequence.  It makes no sense to learn how to use a camera's iris if you don't even know how to turn it on yet.  So start at the beginning and go in order.
Finally, test out each new thing as you learn it.

  • How large are the files from recording video's?

I purchased a 8gb model 5th gen and was just wondering if I should go with the larger model because I do plan on shooting some video with it. I currently have about 1.35gb of music that I will be adding to it.
Do you suppose that around 6gb will be fine for videos?
    Thanks!

So you are saying that about an hour of recorded video has been about 1gb-2gb?
That's not bad. I just plan to shoot small amounts of video so it sounds like I am good.
    Thanks for the help!
