The Remote's Infrared port...

just wondering what the situation is with this port... can it be used by other objects than the apple remote? is it accessable via windows through bootcamp or parallels? i am considering getting a dive watch (Mares Nemo) that can send my dive info to the computer through infrared and was wondering if the built in port could do it...

No this would not work.
The IR sensor is connected in a way which won't allow data to be sent through it unlike the old IR sensor on some older PowerBooks.

  • How Do You Change the Remote Desktop Listening Port in Win 8.1 Pro

    I am trying to setup two Win 8.1 Pro computers for Remote Desktop access on my local network. I can get Remote Desktop working fine on both when they are using the default RD port 3389. I am unable to change the listening port on one of the computers so
    that I can access either via a public Internet connection. I change the listening port in the Registry, reboot the computer and verify that the port number has been changed BUT the computer still responds to the old port 3389 and can't connect via the new
    port number. I added a Firewall rule for the new port, but that did NOT solve the problem.
    I have followed the procedure below and verified in the Registry that the port is changed but the Remote Desktop remains accessible only on the default port 3389. The new port number in the Registry is 39699. I used a network scanner and it shows the computer
    is still listening on port 3389 for Remote Desktop connections. Why is Win 8.1 Pro ignoring the new port number in the Registry and still responding on 3389? Is there another place in Win 8.1 Pro that the port also needs to be changed. I also added a new rule
    in the Firewall to allow incoming requests on port 39699? This is a very frustrating problem, any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
    I followed the procedure shown below.
    Hi ,
    Based on my test, we can change the listening port for Remote Desktop.
    To change the port that Remote Desktop listens on, follow these steps.
    1.Start Registry Editor.
    2.Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\TerminalServer\WinStations\RDP-Tcp\PortNumber
    3.On the Edit menu, click Modify, and then click Decimal.
    4.Type the new port number, and then click OK.
    5.Quit Registry Editor.
    6.Restart the computer.
    Meanwhile, please note, please type the new integer port number between 1025 and 65535 in the PortNumber text box.
    And make sure the new port number is not in use by other application.
    We may use the command below to check the result.
    netstat -a
    Also, we can use Network Monitor to trace the port.
    Microsoft Network Monitor 3.4
    Regards,

    Hi,
    There are two item that should be modified to change the default 3389 port:
    One is: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\Wds\rdpwd\Tds\tcp]. Modify  the PortNamber to the one you want.
    The other is: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentContro1Set\Control\Tenninal Server\WinStations\RDP\Tcp]. Modify the PortNumber to the one you want.
    In your case, you missed the first one.

  • X60 Infrared Port setting in WinXP

    Hello,
    Could anyone tell me how to do the setting of Infrared port in WinXP SP3?
    Since, I need to use it to connect with external device which is use Infrared communication also.
    It requires Serial Port Mapping of Infrared communication via the external device application.
    I tried to do related setting in BIOS (version 2.19) at Config --> Infrared
    --> Infrared Device: Enabled
    --> Infrared: Enabled --> Base I/O address: [2F8], Interrrupt: [IRQ3], DMA: [DMA3]
    And save and reboot to WinXP. The Infrared port takes respond and prompted the related tray icon. But the device application cannot find the mapping COM Port for retrieved data.
    Could you know how to solve it ?
    Besides, I tried to disable "Infared" but the result is same.
    Thanks

    Andrew,
    I was not sure if I was supposed to use the "bindery" syntax or NDS/tree
    one.
    I just rolled out all my printers by using a batch containing lines like:
    rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /if /b "Customized Printer Name" /f
    %windir%\inf\ntprint.inf /r "\\TREE\queue" /m "HP LaserJet 4Si"
    Much faster, no human errors.
    I am still working out some issues though:
    Do you get a printer icon on the taskbar when you print?
    Do you receive notification printing from DOS?
    Thanks Eric.

    Hi
    I have installed coheI have installed coherence server "fmw_12.1.3.0.0_coherence_Disk1_1of1.zip" along with Examples on windows machine and C++ client coherence-cpp-12.1.3.0.0b51709-windows-x86-vs2012.zip on the same machine.
    I have built the "contacts" C++ Example successfully and while I execute this "contacts" using run I am facing TcpAcceptor error.
    On my coherence server the TcpAcceptor is listening on port 8088, so I have modified the extend-cache-config.xml file with values "ip address of my windows machine" and port as "8088".
    All the time I am getting below error,

  • Questions about remote control and infrared port Qosmio F20

    Hi again,
    My Toshiba Qosmio F20 comes with a remote control funcioning through a infrared device on the front of the computer.
    Regarding this I have 2 questions:
    1. How do I configure additonal functionality through the remote control? (Like launching and controlling Winamp?)
    2. How do I connect other devices, like my cellular phone, pdas etc., to the infrared device on my computer?
    Kind regards,
    Vegard

    Hi,
    the Remote Control delivered with the Qosmio F20 is designed only for Windows XP Media Center Edition (all Remote Control's which are designed for Windows XP Media Center Edition work only with Media Center or Windows Media Player). Other program's like Winamp were not supported by these Remote Control's.
    I believe, the Remote Control's are made by Microsoft and for a wide palette of product's (the Infrared Transceiver is on nearly all Media Center PC's e.g. Siemens-Fujitsu, the same). So it's a little bit tricky to support more program's then Media Center or Windows Media Player.
    For other program's you need a second Remote Control like this one:

    Starting in Firefox 14, Firefox will guess an address and place it in the address bar (AutoFill feature). If you have ever connected to the site using a secure (HTTPS) connection, then Firefox will try to connect security to the address suggested by the AutoFill feature. To work around this you can:
    * Edit the address to force Firefox to interpret your entry literally. For example, if there is a trailing / you can remove it.
    * Turn off the URL bar AutoFill feature and just use the AutoSuggest drop-down.
    * Clear Firefox's memory of the site so it doesn't default to a secure connection (however, this also removes any bookmarks you have to pages on the site).
    To disable the in-address-bar autofill without losing the suggestions that appear below the bar:
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the filter box, type or paste '''autofill''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Double-click '''browser.urlbar.autoFill''' to toggle it from true to false. You're done with about:config and you can close this tab.
    "Forget about this site" will clear cache, history, bookmarks, and permissions for the site, and probably any saved certificate. There are two ways to get to this:
    * History > Show All History, right-click an entry for the site > "Forget about this site"
    * Type or paste about:permissions in the address bar and press Enter, then select the site from the list on the left side, and click the "Forget about this site" button on the right side
    Depending on the size of your history and cache, this may lock Firefox up for a minute or two while everything is cleansed.

  • Apple or 3rd Party: PLEASE make a dock with the remote port!

    Sure there was no room for the remote port on the bottom, but you could make a dock, just like the lanyard headphone dock, that includes the headphone miniplug and the remote plug, just like on all the docking iPods...
    THEN, we could use our iTrip FM transmitters (or any one of them that use the iPod's power), that ever-so-cool Logitech Bluetooth headphone set, various wireless remote controls -- even Apple's own wired-remote control... the list goes on and on.... even that crazy iPod laser pointer...
    Thanks in advance.

    Good suggestion, your feedback should be provided at: http://www.apple.com/feedback/

  • Satellite P850 - question about Infrared port

    Hi,
    I have Windows 8 Pro installed onto my laptop and I've downloaded all the drivers and everything is working fine apart from the Infrared. I've searched all over the internet and I can't find a remote control to use with this laptop (including the Toshiba website).
    I've installed the latest ENE CIR Driver (v4.1) as well as the Toshiba Remote Control Manager (v3.1.0.1). I looked in Program Files to open the Toshiba Remote Control Manager however when I click on the program to open it... Nothing happens (including in the notification area).
    So my question is can I actually get a remote working with this laptop at all and if not then what is this Infrared port for because I can't find anything on my computer to actually use it with/for?!
    Thanks for your help :p

    Hi
    Some Satellite P850 models are equipped with the remote controller and its possible to use the remote controller with Windows Media Center to play discs or videos, to view pictures and to watch recorded TV programs.
    Models which dont include the a remote controller are *NOT* equipped with the an infrared receiver so the notebook cannot be operated with a remote controller.
    The remote controller was not part of the package so your notebook does not support infrared receiver and therefore the installation of ENE CIR Driver and Toshiba Remote Control Manager was useless

  • With System 10.8.5 I can't find the remote pairing button in the advanced security window.  Where is it?

    I tried pairing my remote with my new Macbook Air.  I went into the security settings, entered my password, opened advanced, and, unlike my old system on my previous Macbook, saw no mention of where to select for infrared remote pairing.  Where is it?

    Newer MacBook Air models do not have infrared ports.
    So infrared remote can not be used.
    Best.

  • Loss of DVD drive and Infrared port on new iMacs

    Hi All,
    Just wondering if anyone else has run into this issue.  I teach CPR classes and sometimes when a client doesn't have the proper audio-visual equipment, I will bring my 2009 iMac to play the course DVD on.  Thanks to the infrared remote, I can pause and play as needed without having to be right next to the computer. Well, as with all things, my older iMac is about ready to put out to pasture.  The issue I'm having is that when I looked at the newer iMacs in the store as a replacement, there's no DVD drive and no infrared port or remote!  Same price but less features!
    What are my options here?  I thought about buying an external DVD superdrive but then I have no way of operating it from afar.  Also, the hardware (infrared port) for the Apple remote has been removed too.  Has anyone else run into this?  Aside, from purchasing a refurbished 2009 model iMac, how would I continue to be able to use my new iMac to play my course DVDs??

    If you want to control your new iMac remotely and you own a mobile iDevice, there are remote apps you can use on both your iMac and iDevice.
    These apps work over Wifi and/or Bluetooth.
    Apple has its own remote app simply called Remote.
    Another, which I use and is very comprehensive remote app, is called Rowmote Pro by a developer called Regular & Rhythm.
    If you want complete and total remote control access to your Mac, look at Splashtop Remote.
    There is also a dedicated WifI and/or Bluetooth remote for Macs and iDevices by a company called Satechi.
    Found here.
    http://www.amazon.com/Satechi-MediaRemote-Bluetooth-Multi-Media-Control/dp/B0082 4948U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1391729056&sr=8-1&keywords=Satechi+remote
    All of these options work with an external CD/DVD optical drive.
    I use Rowmote Pro helper on my 2009 iMac and I use both my iPad and iPod Touch as the actual Rowmote Pro remotes to control my iMac.

  • Internal infrared port with MCE on Qosmio G10

    Is anybody know how to use internal infrared port with MCE ( i can use it with the QosmioPlayer, but when i use windows, i can only use the usb infrared reciver!)

    Why is this functionality disabled?
    It is clear that the IR receiver on the front of the laptop is functional (it works under Qosmio Player).
    It is a real hassle to have to plug the external USB IR receiver for MCE to have a remote - it makes the whole thing much less portable.
    Is this simply a driver/config issue in MCE? Is it some bizarre requirement from MS for MCE 'certification'?

  • TcpListener not working on Azure: Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host

    Hi Everybody,
    i'm playing a little bit with Windows Azure and I'm blocked with a really simple issue (or maybe not).
    I've created a Cloud Service containing one simple Worker Role. I've configured an EndPoint in the WorkerRole configuration, which allows Input connections via tcp on port 10100.
    Here the ServiceDefinition.csdef file content:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <ServiceDefinition name="EmacCloudService" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/ServiceHosting/2008/10/ServiceDefinition" schemaVersion="2014-01.2.3">
    <WorkerRole name="TcpListenerWorkerRole" vmsize="Small">
    <Imports>
    <Import moduleName="Diagnostics" />
    <Import moduleName="RemoteAccess" />
    <Import moduleName="RemoteForwarder" />
    </Imports>
    <Endpoints>
    <InputEndpoint name="Endpoint1" protocol="tcp" port="10100" />
    </Endpoints>
    </WorkerRole>
    </ServiceDefinition>
    This WorkerRole is just creating a TcpListener object listening to the configured port (using the RoleEnvironment instance) and waits for an incoming connection. It receives a message and returns a hardcoded message (see code snippet below).
    namespace TcpListenerWorkerRole
    using System;
    using System.Net;
    using Microsoft.WindowsAzure.ServiceRuntime;
    using System.Net.Sockets;
    using System.Text;
    using Roche.Emac.Infrastructure;
    using System.IO;
    using System.Threading.Tasks;
    using Microsoft.WindowsAzure.Diagnostics;
    using System.Linq;
    public class WorkerRole : RoleEntryPoint
    public override void Run()
    // This is a sample worker implementation. Replace with your logic.
    LoggingProvider.Logger.Info("TcpListenerWorkerRole entry point called");
    TcpListener listener = null;
    try
    listener = new TcpListener(RoleEnvironment.CurrentRoleInstance.InstanceEndpoints["Endpoint1"].IPEndpoint);
    listener.ExclusiveAddressUse = false;
    listener.Start();
    LoggingProvider.Logger.Info(string.Format("TcpListener started at '{0}:{1}'", RoleEnvironment.CurrentRoleInstance.InstanceEndpoints["Endpoint1"].IPEndpoint.Address, RoleEnvironment.CurrentRoleInstance.InstanceEndpoints["Endpoint1"].IPEndpoint.Port));
    catch (SocketException ex)
    LoggingProvider.Logger.Exception("Unexpected exception while creating the TcpListener", ex);
    return;
    while (true)
    Task.Run(async () =>
    TcpClient client = await listener.AcceptTcpClientAsync();
    LoggingProvider.Logger.Info(string.Format("Client connected. Address='{0}'", client.Client.RemoteEndPoint.ToString()));
    NetworkStream networkStream = client.GetStream();
    StreamReader reader = new StreamReader(networkStream);
    StreamWriter writer = new StreamWriter(networkStream);
    writer.AutoFlush = true;
    string input = string.Empty;
    while (true)
    try
    char[] receivedChars = new char[client.ReceiveBufferSize];
    LoggingProvider.Logger.Info("Buffer size: " + client.ReceiveBufferSize);
    int readedChars = reader.Read(receivedChars, 0, client.ReceiveBufferSize);
    char[] validChars = new char[readedChars];
    Array.ConstrainedCopy(receivedChars, 0, validChars, 0, readedChars);
    input = new string(validChars);
    LoggingProvider.Logger.Info("This is what the host sent to you: " + input+". Readed chars=" + readedChars);
    try
    string orderResultFormat = Encoding.ASCII.GetString(Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes("\xB")) + @"MSH|^~\&|Instrument|Laboratory|LIS|LIS Facility|20120427123212+0100||ORL^O34^ORL_O34| 11|P|2.5.1||||||UNICODE UTF-8|||LAB-28^IHE" + Environment.NewLine + "MSA|AA|10" + Environment.NewLine + @"PID|||patientId||""""||19700101|M" + Environment.NewLine + "SPM|1|sampleId&ROCHE||ORH^^HL70487|||||||P^^HL70369" + Environment.NewLine + "SAC|||sampleId" + Environment.NewLine + "ORC|OK|orderId|||SC||||20120427123212" + Encoding.ASCII.GetString(Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes("\x1c\x0d"));
    writer.Write(orderResultFormat);

    client.Close();
    break;
    catch (Exception ex)
    LoggingProvider.Logger.Exception("Unexpected exception while Reading the request", ex);
    client.Close();
    break;
    }).Wait();
    public override bool OnStart()
    // Set the maximum number of concurrent connections
    ServicePointManager.DefaultConnectionLimit = 12;
    DiagnosticMonitor.Start("Microsoft.WindowsAzure.Plugins.Diagnostics.ConnectionString");
    RoleEnvironment.Changing += RoleEnvironment_Changing;
    return base.OnStart();
    private void RoleEnvironment_Changing(object sender, RoleEnvironmentChangingEventArgs e)
    // If a configuration setting is changing
    LoggingProvider.Logger.Info("RoleEnvironment is changing....");
    if (e.Changes.Any(change => change is RoleEnvironmentConfigurationSettingChange))
    // Set e.Cancel to true to restart this role instance
    e.Cancel = true;
    As you can see, nothing special is being done. I've used the RoleEnvironment.CurrentRoleInstance.InstanceEndpoints to retrieve the current IPEndpoint.
    Running the Cloud Service in the Windows Azure Compute Emulator everything works fine, but when I deploy it in Azure, then I receive the following Exception:

    I've already tried to configure an internal port in the ServiceDefinition.csdef file, but I get the same exception there.
    As you can see, the client can connect to the service (the log shows the message: Client connected with the address) but when it tries to read the bytes from the stream, it throws the exception.
    For me it seems like Azure is preventing the retrieval of the message. I've tried to disable the Firewall in the VM in Azure and the same continues happening.
    I'm using Windows Azure SDK 2.3
    Any help will be very very welcome!
    Thanks in advance!

    hi Javier,
    I changed your code like this:
    private AutoResetEvent connectionWaitHandle = new AutoResetEvent(false);
    public override void Run()
    TcpListener listener = null;
    try
    listener = new TcpListener(
    RoleEnvironment.CurrentRoleInstance.InstanceEndpoints["Endpoint"].IPEndpoint);
    listener.ExclusiveAddressUse = false;
    listener.Start();
    catch (SocketException se)
    return;
    while (true)
    IAsyncResult result = listener.BeginAcceptTcpClient(HandleAsyncConnection, listener);
    connectionWaitHandle.WaitOne();
    The HandleAsync method is your "While (true)" code:
    private void HandleAsyncConnection(IAsyncResult result)
    TcpListener listener = (TcpListener)result.AsyncState;
    TcpClient client = listener.EndAcceptTcpClient(result);
    connectionWaitHandle.Set();
    NetworkStream netStream = client.GetStream();
    StreamReader reader = new StreamReader(netStream);
    StreamWriter writer = new StreamWriter(netStream);
    writer.AutoFlush = true;
    string input = string.Empty;
    try
    char[] receivedChars = new char[client.ReceiveBufferSize];
    // LoggingProvider.Logger.Info("Buffer size: " + client.ReceiveBufferSize);
    int readedChars = reader.Read(receivedChars, 0, client.ReceiveBufferSize);
    char[] validChars = new char[readedChars];
    Array.ConstrainedCopy(receivedChars, 0, validChars, 0, readedChars);
    input = new string(validChars);
    // LoggingProvider.Logger.Info("This is what the host sent to you: " + input + ". Readed chars=" + readedChars);
    try
    string orderResultFormat = Encoding.ASCII.GetString(Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes("\xB")) + @"MSH|^~\&|Instrument|Laboratory|LIS|LIS Facility|20120427123212+0100||ORL^O34^ORL_O34| 11|P|2.5.1||||||UNICODE UTF-8|||LAB-28^IHE" + Environment.NewLine + "MSA|AA|10" + Environment.NewLine + @"PID|||patientId||""""||19700101|M" + Environment.NewLine + "SPM|1|sampleId&ROCHE||ORH^^HL70487|||||||P^^HL70369" + Environment.NewLine + "SAC|||sampleId" + Environment.NewLine + "ORC|OK|orderId|||SC||||20120427123212" + Encoding.ASCII.GetString(Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes("\x1c\x0d"));
    writer.Write(orderResultFormat);
    catch (Exception e)
    // LoggingProvider.Logger.Exception("Unexpected exception while writting the response", e);
    client.Close();
    catch (Exception ex)
    //LoggingProvider.Logger.Exception("Unexpected exception while Reading the request", ex);
    client.Close();
    Please try it. For this error message, I suggest you could refer to this thread (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/6173763/using-windows-azure-to-use-as-a-tcp-server

  • How can I get the remote directory from an FTPActivationSpec header?

    The header message generated for the oracle.tip.adapter.ftp.inbound.FTPActivationSpec contains the file name, FTP host and FTP port. Is there any way of getting the remote directory as well?
    <schema attributeFormDefault="qualified" elementFormDefault="qualified"
    targetNamespace="http://xmlns.oracle.com/pcbpel/adapter/ftp/"
    xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"
    xmlns:FTPAPP="http://xmlns.oracle.com/pcbpel/adapter/ftp/">
    <element name="InboundFTPHeaderType">
    <complexType>
    <sequence>
    <element name="fileName" type="string"/>
    <element name="ftpHost" type="string"/>
    <element name="ftpPort" type="string"/>
    </sequence>
    </complexType>
    </element>
    </schema>
    This is already specified in the activation spec parameters:
    <activationAgents>
    <activationAgent className="oracle.tip.adapter.fw.agent.jca.JCAActivationAgent" partnerLink="ReadFileService">
    <property name="ftpRemoteDir" type="LogicalDirectory">out</property>
    <property name="portType">Read_ptt</property>
    </activationAgent>
    </activationAgents>
    But I don't want to have to add a separate preference parameter to hold the same thing if I don't have to. Alternatively, is there any way of querying the activation agent parameters from within an xpath expression, similar to "ora:getPreference()"?
    Cheers,

    add:
    <element name="directory" type="string"/>
    to the FTP adapter header WSDL

  • How to create a jar file which is in the remote system?

    Hi,
    I have a set of files that resides in a remote system,which have to be "jar"red. I have a firewall in between. I want to create a jar file out of the files situated in the remote system.How do i go about this process.?

    Hi,
    You can't do that in a simple way. You need to have a port open in the firewall, and you need to have a server process on the remote machine.

  • SQL Service Broker 2012: the connection was closed by the remote end, or an error occurred while receiving data: '64(The specified network name is no longer available.)'

    Anyone can help with the below issue please? Much appreciated.
    We have about 2k+ messages in sys.transmission_queue
    Telnet to the ports 4022 is working fine.
    Network connectivity has been ruled out.
    The firewalls are OFF.
    We also explicitly provided the permissions to the service account on Server A and Server B to the Service broker end points.
    GRANT
    CONNECT ON
    ENDPOINT <broker> <domain\serviceaccount>
    Currently for troubleshooting purposes, the DR node is also out of the Availability Group, which means that we right now have only one replica the server is now a traditional cluster.
    Important thing to note is when a SQL Server service is restarted, all the messages in the sys.transmission queue is cleared immediately. After about 30-40 minutes, the errors are continued to be seen with the below
    The
    connection was
    closed by the
    remote end,
    or an
    error occurred while
    receiving data:
    '64(The specified network name is no longer available.)'

    We were able to narrow down the issue to an irrelevant IP coming into play during the data transfer. We tried ssbdiagnose runtime and found this error:
    Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601]
    Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation.  All rights reserved.

    An internal exception occurred: Timeout expired.  The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.
    P  29830                                 Could not find the connection to the SQL Server that
    corresponds to the routing address tcp://XX.XXX.XXX.199:4022. Ensure the tool is connected to this server to allow investigation of runtime events
    The IP that corresponds to routing address is no where configured within the SSB. We are yet unsure why this IP is being referred despite not being configured anywhere. We identified that this IP belongs to one of nodes other SQL Server cluster, which has
    no direct relation to the source server. We failed over that irrelevant SQL Server cluster and made another node active and to our surprise, the data from sys.transmission_queue started flowing. Even today we are able to reproduce the issue, if we bring
    back this node [XX.XXX.XXX.199] as active. Since, its a high business activity period, we are not investigating further until we get an approved downtime to find the root cause of it.
    When we get a approved downtime, we will bring the node [XX.XXX.XXX.199] as active and we will be running Network Monitor, Process Monitor and the SSB Diagnose all in parallel to capture the process/program that is accessing the irrelevant IP.
    Once, we are able to nail down the root cause, I will share more information.
