The result of a direct action returned NULL/nil.

I'm new to Macs so please bear with me. I've been tasked with setting up a new iMac (20 inch display - totally stock - bought on Saturday.) After plugging it in and started running through the registration, setting up the wireless access then it looked like the setup was doing something with the camera suddenly it flashed to the following message:
"the result of a direct action returned NULL/nil." the Continue and Back buttons at the bottom of the page were dimmed out. The only thing I could do was reboot the computer.
Is there any way to restart the "setup sequence" - as if I just plugged it in and turned it on for the first time? Have I missed anything in the setup because of this error? Anyone know why this happened? I've tried to search on this topic but couldn't find anything. If I've missed something please direct me to the appropriate link.
Thanks.
20 inch iMac 2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Go to ~user/Library/Assistants and double click the file Send Registration.setup and it should relaunch the Mac OS X Setup Assistant.

    Hi
    In AR, you will give cash discount to customer and not the other way round as you mentioned.
    For eg if AR value is 100 and customer pays you 90, there is a difference of 10. Assume you have cash discount % of say 6%, you expect the customer to pay 94 (100- 6% of 100) and not 90. There is still a gap of 4. This can be added to cash discount account if you enter 4 in this field. Hence the A/c entry will be:
    Dr Bank 90
    Dr cash discount (expense/loss) 10
    Cr Customer 100
    However this field is interlinked with some other fields like "Cash discount per line item", etc

  • Splitting out string, using the results to lookup reference, then returning the reference name as a string?

    I have a field that contains a comma separated string of sys_id’s that relate to another table.
    I am trying to write a query that returns the name value from the reference table, so that the result is a comma separated string of the name field.
    Can anyone help with the SQL required to split out the sys_id’s, do the look-up and return the names back into a string?
    Table1
    Number
    Category
    1001
    Sys_id1, Sys_id3, Sys_id9
    1002
    Sys_id3
    1003
    Sys_id4,Sys_3
    1004
    Sys_id1, Sys_id9, Sys_id10, Sys_id6
    Category Reference Table
    Category Sys_id
    Category_Name
    Sys_id1
    Consulting
    Sys_id3
    Negotiate
    Sys_id4
    Planning
    Sys_id6
    Building
    Sys_id9
    Receipt
    Sys_id10
    Complete
    The result I am looking for would be.
    Number
    Category
    1001
    Consulting, Negotiate, Receipt
    1002
    Negotiate
    1003
    Planning, Negotiate
    1004
    Consulting, Receipt, Complete, Building

    I am not going to arguee regarding your model, but you should consider normalizing it.
    The idea is to have a function to split the string and return a row for each element in the list. Dump the result into a table and then use FOR XML PATH to do the string aggregation.
    To learn about different methods you could use to create the split function refer to this article.

    http://www.sommarskog.se/arrays-in-sql.html
    Here is an example using XML methods. This is just an example and it doesn't deal with proper indexing, weird characters as part of the list that can't be translated as xml, etc.

  • Non-local searches return "null" results

    I'm creating a Merged help output using AIR Browser Based Help. Said output currently has one major flaw: null search results when viewed over a network.
    Now, I have read through the thread on this forum about people who initially got a "null" search result when searching a local project, but with the search subsequently working, and indeed that behavior is what I was initially seeing. That is, on my local copy of the project, my first search would return "null," and then things would work normally. However, when other users accessed my local project over our network, they never got anything other than "null" results. (Quick aside for relevant information: output was from 64-bit RH9, testing is on FIrefox 13 and I.E. 9) If I move my local copy onto the network, I am no longer successful in searching.
    I have performed the suggested fix on the whfhost.js file, and while it fixed the problem locally-- I no longer see "null" results-- the problem persists for non-local access. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?
    Thanks!

    For the benefit of anyone else, this is the solution that was provided by Adobe.
    Open the generated output folder and open whfhost.js file in the notepad application. Search for the following strings in the file. you need to replace this function
    function Query()
      gbAIRSearchString  = goOdinHunter.strQuery;
    g_CurPage = 1;
    context = new HuginContext();
      context.reset();
    context.push( goOdinHunter.query, goOdinHunter,
      processHunterResult, null );
      context.resume();
    With this new function
    function isValidType(obj)
    return ( (typeof(obj)!='undefined')&&(obj!=null) );
    function Query()
      gbAIRSearchString  = goOdinHunter.strQuery;
    g_CurPage = 1;
    if (isValidType(context) && isValidType(context.aTasks))
      while(context.aTasks.length>0)
      context.resume();
    context = new HuginContext();
      context.reset();
    context.push( goOdinHunter.query, goOdinHunter,
      processHunterResult, null );
      context.resume();
    And try running the output and see if you stilll face the null search result problem
    If this problem is fixed, then you can go to the C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe RoboHelp 8\RoboHTML\WebHelp5Ext\template_stock folder location, and make the similar changes in the whfhost.js file located in this folder.
    It has worked for others so I would first check carefully that you have made the modification correctly.
    If you reverse the change, are you back to square one and get a null result first time?
    The modification was for RoboHelp 8 or 9. You haven't said what version you are using.
    Does it fail with all browsers?

  • Execute oracle stored procedure from C# always returns null

    Hi,
    I'm trying to execute a stored procedure on oracle 9i. I'm using .Net OracleClient provider.
    Apparently, I can execute the stored procedure, but it always returns null as a result (actually all the sp's I have there returns null)! I can execute any text statement against the database successfully, and also I can execute the stored procedure using Toad.
    This is not the first time for me to call an oracle stored procedure, but this really is giving me a hard time! Can anyone help please?
    Below are the SP, and the code used from .Net to call it, if that can help.
    Oracle SP:
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE APIECARE.CHECK_EXISTENCE(l_number IN NUMBER) AS
    v_status VARCHAR2(5) := NULL;
    BEGIN
    BEGIN
    SELECT CHECK_NO_EXISTENCE(to_char(l_number))
    INTO v_status
    FROM DUAL;
    EXCEPTION WHEN OTHERS THEN
    v_status := NULL;
    END;
    DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE(v_status);
    END CHECK_CONTRNO_EXISTENCE;
    C# Code:
    string connStr = "Data Source=datasource;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=user;Password=pass;Unicode=True";
    OracleConnection conn = new OracleConnection(connStr);
    OracleParameter param1 = new OracleParameter();
    param1.ParameterName = "v_status";
    param1.OracleType = OracleType.VarChar;
    param1.Size = 5;
    param1.Direction = ParameterDirection.Input;
    OracleParameter param2 = new OracleParameter();
    param2.ParameterName = "l_number";
    param2.OracleType = OracleType.Number;
    param2.Direction = ParameterDirection.Input;
    param2.Value = 006550249;
    OracleParameter[] oraParams = new OracleParameter[] { param1, param2 };
    OracleCommand cmd = new OracleCommand("CHECK_EXISTENCE", conn);
    cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure;
    cmd.Parameters.AddRange(oraParams);
    conn.Open();
    object result = cmd.ExecuteScalar();
    conn.Close();

    Hi,
    Does that actually execute? You're passing two parameters to a procedure that only takews 1 and get no error?
    Your stored procedure doesnt return anything and has no output parameters, what are you expecting to be returned exactly?
    If you're trying to access V_STATUS you'll need to declare that as either an output parameter of the procedure, or return value of the function, and also access it via accessing Param.Value, not as the result of ExecuteScalar.
    See if this helps.
    Cheers,
    Greg

    Everything works well, until getting to the block

                   System.out.format("\t%,.2f\n", db.result.getFloat("Adj Close"));
    The getDate("DATE", Calendar.getInstance())); always returns null, instead of the date value in the vwo-1.csv.
    Even though I change it to
    java.sql.Date d=db.result.getDate("DATE") and convert to String using .toString(), I still gets nulls. The dollar amount in "Adj Close" field is fine, no problem.
    The .csv fils is downloaded from YahooFinace.
    Can anyone review the code and shed some light as to what I did wrong?
    Thanks alot.

  • Get XML Document Data step always returns NULL

    Hi All,
    I was hoping someone might be able to help with this.
    I'm writing a holiday script, it uses XML to check whether the date is a holiday or halfday. XML below
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
    <Holidays>
      <Holiday Date="1/1/2012">Holiday</Holiday>
      <Holiday Date="3/1/2012">Halfday</Holiday>
      <Holiday Date="6/1/2012">Holiday</Holiday>
      <Holiday Date="5/4/2012">Halfday</Holiday>
      <Holiday Date="6/4/2012">Holiday</Holiday>
      <Holiday Date="8/4/2012">Holiday</Holiday>
      <Holiday Date="9/4/2012">Holiday</Holiday>
      <Holiday Date="30/4/2012">Halfday</Holiday>
      <Holiday Date="1/5/2012">Holiday</Holiday>
      <Holiday Date="17/5/2012">Holiday</Holiday>
      <Holiday Date="27/5/2012">Holiday</Holiday>
      <Holiday Date="6/6/2012">Holiday</Holiday>
      <Holiday Date="23/6/2012">Holiday</Holiday>
      <Holiday Date="6/4/2012">Holiday</Holiday>
      <Holiday Date="3/11/2012">Halfday</Holiday>
      <Holiday Date="25/12/2012">Holiday</Holiday>
      <Holiday Date="26/12/2012">Holiday</Holiday>
      <Holiday Date="19/10/2012">Halfday</Holiday>
    </Holidays>
    However when I debug the script the result of the Get XML Document step always returns null.
    Xpath work great in notepad++
    My code is attached, anyone with any pointers?
    Regards,
    Andy

    Your XPATH of:
    "/Holidays/Holiday[@Date='+DateString+']"
    Needs to be:
    "/Holidays/Holiday[@Date='"+DateString+"']"
    Good luck and happy scripting!

  • A getName method allways returns null, why?

    I have an
    ArrayList<Animals> array_list = new ArrayList<Animals>();
    LinkedList<Animals> linked_list = new LinkedList<Animals>();
    I want the getName() method in class NewListener to be accessed from the class NextListener which extends NewListener, and therefor should get access to the method. But when I run the program, it allways returns null. Why?
    class NewListener implements ActionListener
              public String name;
              public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e)
                   String str_name = showInputDialog(this,"Animal name: ",null);

                        return;
                   for(int i=0; i<array_list.size(); i++)
                        if(array_list.get(i).getName().equalsIgnoreCase(str_name))

    So the question is: why does getName() return null?Your code is doing exactly what you're telling it to do. One or more of your assumptions is wrong. Keep digging. Add more print statements.
    Above all, you must drop the attitude that "it should work." There's a bug in your code. You have to find it. Repeating the mantra "It should work" is simply going to put blinders on and make it almost impossible to find your error. Instead, you have to think, "What did I do wrong?" and "If getName is returning null, then setName was never called or was called with null."

  • Field.get(Object obj) now returning null with Generics (Java 5.0) ??

    Hello,
    I'm currently using Java 5.0 (especially for the Generics part) on a new Java/J2EE project, but having a strange issue with code working previously in a Java 1.4 project.
    Below is an overriding of the toString() method provided by the Object class which allow me to view nicely in debug (dev. mode) the contents of my Transfer Objects (all the TO's must extend this ATO abstract class).
    Previously this code displayed me something like:
    [field1 => value1, field2 => value2] ... for a TO (sort of "Javabean") having e.g. two String fields with values initialized to "value1" (resp. "value2").
    But unfortunately, this does (or seems) not to work anymore, having such display :
    [field1 => null, field2 => null]I tried to debug, and the problem is that the call fieldValue = field.get(this); returns null while it should returns the actual value of the field.
    I thing it it strongly related to Generics, but could not at the moment found how/why it does not work.
    May someone help...? Thanks.
    public abstract class ATO {
        // Reflection for field value display
        public String toString() {
            StringBuffer sb = new StringBuffer("[");
            MessageFormat mf = new MessageFormat("{0} => {1}, ");
            Field[] fields = this.getClass().getDeclaredFields();
            for (int i = 0; i < fields.length; i++) {
                Field field = (Field) fields;
    String fieldName = field.getName();
    Object fieldValue = null;
    try {
    fieldValue = field.get(this);
    } catch (IllegalArgumentException e) {
    } catch (IllegalAccessException e) {
    mf.format(new Object[] { fieldName, fieldValue }, sb, null);
    if (sb.length() > 1) {
    sb.setLength(sb.length() - 2);
    sb.append("]");
    return sb.toString();

    ejp wrote:

    This cast is unnecessary.
    Effectively, I haven't noticed it yet. Fixed.
    } catch (IllegalArgumentException e) {
    } catch (IllegalAccessException e) {
    }Either the field value really is null or you are getting one of these exceptions which you are ignoring. Never write empty catch blocks.That's true, I missed something. Fixed with some code to log the eventual exceptions.
    Thanks for you answer.

  • JNDI lookup() for sql server jdbc datasource returns null

    Hi,
    I am trying to use a jdbc datasource in tomcat 5 to access a sql server 2000 database. I had many common problems and did found an answer to them in the forums but I'm having one last (I hope) problem. My program is also using a mySQL datasource and it works fine.
    The problem is that my lookup returns null. No exception, just null. It seems that many people had this problem but I didn't found any answer to it.
    This is the lookup code:
        Context ctx = new InitialContext();
        Context envCtx = (Context)ctx.lookup("java:comp/env");
        axaptaDS = (DataSource) envCtx.lookup("jdbc/axapta"); //returns null :(This my context.xml config:

        <parameter>
          <name>maxIdle</name>
          <value>2</value>
        </parameter>
      </ResourceParams>And I also put these lines in my web.xml file:
    <resource-ref id="ResourceRef_1092254277306">
         <res-ref-name>jdbc/axapta</res-ref-name>

    I finally found a remedy to this problem:
    specify this driver instead and remove the entry about the factory in the context's .xml file:

    There're two major problems in your code. One you have used different names to get your parameters like in your first jsp they're like
    <input type="text" name="did" size="20" </p>
      <p align="center"> </p>
      <p align="center"><b>Name        </b>
      <input type="text" name="name" size="20"></p>
      <p align="center"> </p>
      <p align="center"><b>Specialist In
      <input type="text" name="specialist" size="20"></b></p>
      <p align="center"> </p>
      <p align="center"><b>Address
      <input type="text" name="address" size="20"></b></p>
      <p align="center"> </p>
      <p align="center"><b>Phone no.
      <input type="text" name="phno" size="20"></b></p>
      <p align="center"> </p>but when you're getting you're doing it like this
    String name = request.getParameter("name");
         String did = request.getString("did");
         String add = request.getParameter("add");
         String specilist = request.getParameter("specilist");
         String phno = request.getParameter("phno");First get them with same name as you have them in your first jsp. another thing in that you're not used form tag in write way... You have created submit button in some other form
    and when you're pressing submit button actully you're submitting only that form value and your form1 is not submitted that's why you're getting null values for
    those parameters you're getting with right name

    So did you succeed with the jnlp template ?
    After frustrating hours of that information useless JNLPSigningException trial & error, It seems that as :
    1. You can't make the j2se version variable
    2. You can't have your own variable property/values
    I've opened a bug report...
    The documentation is atrocious, with a vague "we reserve the right to blacklist variable elements, but we will never say which ones".
    The JNLP example in the various example is a joke - Its a hello world jnlp, not a real world one.
    The JNLPSigningException must have been written my the same guys at Microsoft that did the "An Unknown Error As Occurred".
    I've had to clear the cache at every test, seems that the JNLP Template check didn't get the new updated JNLP from the web server.
    /rant over
    I think I'll try to bypass that JNLP property mess and get javaws to download my own "jnlp name".xml.config...

    But it returns both elements and portlets. Portlets are not compulsory viewable if one clik on in in the result page.
    How can I only return "true" elements (documents) and not portlets ?

    These are two slightly different issues
    In v2, in the "custom search" portlet, I chose to display the results of "elements" type.
    But it returns both elements and portlets. Portlets are not compulsory viewable if one clik on in in the result page.
    How can I only return "true" elements (documents) and not portlets ? I am not too clear on what you are refering to when you say you chose to display the results of 'Elements' types.
    If you wish a search to only return documents (in this sence i mean files) you can add the 'Base Item Type' attribute as search criteria and chose the 'File' value from the LOV. If you do not wish the end users of the search form to know you are restricting the search to just files you can hide this attribute and not display it on the submission form.
    I have the same issue. the release 2 custom search portal has an option
    to limit the result type to page. But, if I have a simple text item with some content containing the words
    "jey is testing" and If I search for "jey" it doesn't return any pages. But, if I change the result type to
    item it returns the item. I want to mimick a std web search where users search on content and get links to
    pages with content.
    pls help,
    jey If you set a portlet to return 'Items' then the search will return the actual items which match the search terms as the search results.
    If you set a portlet to return 'Pages' then the search will return any pages whose title, description etc which match the search terms not those pages whose content contains the search terms.
    However you can customize the attributes displayed with search results to get the list similar to what you require. Set a results portlet to return items (as its the items which will match the search criteria) and select 'Page' and 'Blank Line' attributes as the 'Search Results Attributes'. When you perform a search the results will be a list of pages on which the search result items reside.
    Note: The listed pages may not be distinct. If more that one item resides on the same page which match the search criteria, you will get multiple lines displaying the same page. This is because the search actually returns 2 hits and as you are just displaying the page name it will appear as if they are duplicate results. Therefore you may want to include the attribute 'Display Name' in order to clarify that these are different items on the same page.

  • Target Unreachable, 'firstField' returned null

    Hi everybody!
    Before I begin, I'm sorry but my english is bad.
    I'm using JDeveloper 11.1.1.3 to develop an application.
    My application is linked with database.
    I created a Train with 2 pages: In the first, you can fill out the form. And in the second, we see the data filled
    in the first, and there you can click a button to submit the form.
    Then I create a method in my class "TestServiceImpl.java" which is the method of application module. This method
    add a new row in a table in the database.
    And finally, I'd drag and drop this method in my "confirmationPage". The value of each field of this method is that
    of the corresponding fields the first page where the form was completed (example: # {} backingBeanScope.backing_firstPage.firstField.value).
    I have hidden filds so they are not visible to the user, and I left the button in this method visible (to create item).
    When I run the application, I fill the fields in the form, I click Next, I preview my form;
    BUT when I click on the button (which is the method that I have hidden filelds), I have the following error:
    Target Unreachable, 'firstField' returned null
    Any help is welcome.
    Thank's

    Yes, but it still seems that the value is null when the method attempts to retrieve it.
    Unless there is some other problem in your page or the bindings.
    If you were to try using pageFlowScope parameters, all that you would have to do would be to set the component values in the virst page equal to the pageFlowScope parameter it corresponds to
    something like this:
    <af:inputText id="var1"/>
    value="#{pageFlowScope.variable1}"
    />then you could get the values in the second page using #{pageFlowScope.variable1}.
