The result of a query

Question

Why can it be tha a query such as
select * from People
where name like 'A%'
don't work in Forms 9i, and a query like
select * from People
where name like 'ANGEL%'
works???? Please, i need help because i've been with this for more than two hours!!!!

I am trying it in a pre-query trigger, added as a dynamic Query to the block People
Actually, the default_where code created is:
DECLARE
v_where VARCHAR2(2000) := '1=1';
BEGIN
     if :People.LastName1 is not null then
     v_where := v_where || ' And lastname1 like '''||:people.lastname1||'%''';
     end if;
     if :People.LastName2 is not null then
     v_where := v_where || ' And lastname2 like '''||:People.LastName2||'%''';
     end if;
     if :People.Name is not null then
     v_where := v_where || ' And name like '''||:People.name||'%''';
     end if;          
and much more to add to the v_where...
Set_Block_Property('TPERSONA',DEFAULT_WHERE,v_where);
End;
but the point is that on runtime, in the form, putting in the textboxes: name: A , lastname1: A and lastname2: A it doesn't work, and putting name: ANGEL , lastname1: ANGEL and lastname2: ANGEL it does work, and the program is prepared to received more than one register.
