The right click search option isn't working on Firefox 7

When I right click on a word and click "search google for..." I get "404 - that's an error" Is this a bug that will be fixed or something that I can tweak to fix now?

Depends how the site is doing it. Preventing right-clicks can be done with javascript so turning javascript off (Tools > Options > Content) may stop it. But it may prevent the whole site working too.
There's no general answer - it depends on the individual site.
Have you tried googling? Others may have found a workround.

  • When is the right click print function going to work with Firefox 4

Right click print function quit working when I updated to Firefox 4

Firefox has never had a right-click Print menu item by default. If you had that with an earlier version of Firefox, it was added by an extension that you installed and isn't 4.0 compatible right now.
I have been using this extension for that feature, for many years. - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/printprint-preview/ - It hasn't been updated for Firefox 4.0 versions yet, so I am using this one temporarily to get a Print Preview option in the Contextual Menus. - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/print-edit/ - The Print function is in the Print Preview window. That extension also allows you to edit what is going to be printed, so you can get rid of advertisements, empty multimedia boxes (Firefox won't print Flash or WMP content), and other stuff you don't want on the printed page, to save ink and paper.
That may not be suitable to you as a replacement extension for what you had been using before, but I never print anything from Firefox before using Print Preview. I am tired of wasting ink and paper with Firefox not being able to correctly print web pages that every other web browser can print correctly. If the Print Preview doesn't look correct, I open that page in IE8, Opera11, or Safari 5.0.1 - all of which will print it correctly 99.9% of the time.

  • Where are some of the right click menu options?

I started using firefox 4 and i noticed a lot of the options i used in the right click menu are now gone. I used to be able to right click on an annoying image on a webpage and click "block images from" and it would give me a message at the top saying it will not always block images from that web address. Is there somewhere to get this option back? Also i can no longer right click on a tab and bookmark it from that menu is there a way to get this option back as well?

Sara, I started having the same problem yesterday. In my case I was able to remedy it by disabling FasterFox 3.9.81. If you don't have that installed, I would recommend turning off your extensions (one by one), restarting firefox, and testing until you find the offender. Hope that helps!

  • I keep getting the message "This search engine isn't supported by Firefox and can't be installed" whenever I try to install ANY search plugin on the Mozilla Add-ons website. Why?

No matter which search plugin I choose to install from the list of FireFox search plugins on the Mozilla Add-ons website, I get the same error message - "This search engine isn't supported by FireFox and can't be installed". I tried deleting the 3 files in my profile identified in the article on troubleshooting plugins, but it didn't help. I am running Firefox with administrator privileges, but that doesn't help. The problem appears to be only with search plugins. I can install other extensions that are not search plugins from the Mozilla Add-ons site, but not search plugins. I tried restarting FireFox and rebooting the computer severaltimes, but I keep getting the same error message when I try to install a search plugin.

If you are creating your own search plugins, be aware that you will get this same error if the path to the XML in your action script must be an absolute URL, even if the XML file is in the same location as the page that is pointing to it.
    IOW, this will never work:
    * window.external.AddSearchProvider('MySearchDefinition.xml');
    it must be:
    * window.external.AddSearchProvider('http://mysite.example.com/.../MySearchDefinition.xml');

  • Can you make a menu for the right-click search so that when I highlight text and search, I can choose which search engine to use?

If you Highlight text you can right-click on it to pull up a short menu. One option is "Search x search engine for 'highlighted text'" Previously, the search engine selected would be whichever search engine was selected on the search bar, so Google or Amazon.com, etc. Because you can no longer change that selection before you search, the search engine is set to your default. Was an annoyance before, but now it's just a hindrance.

Strongly recommend Context Search extension which will solve your problem

  • Removing Right-Click Search Option

I don't recall seeing this in Tiger, but when I right-click on my Mighty Mouse and the cursor happens to be on a word, instead of getting the "Back" item that I want the contextual menu comes up with "Search in Spotlight" and "Search in Google". This is highly inconvenient when reading a text-heavy page like the NY Times; I spend an inordinate amount of time making sure that the cursor is on white space before right-clicking.
I've looked in the Spotlight and mouse preference pane to no avail. I'm probably missing the answer there, but could anyone tell me how to turn off this search option so that I return to the "Back" function that I want.
    Thanks.

I also created an account to express my gratitude. Thank you so much. I hate stealth changes to programs I use.

  • The right-click menu options "Open Link in New Tab" and "Open Link in New Window" are both not working suddenly.

    I'm using version 15.0.1.
How can I get these options to work?
I searched for this question and found an answer was previously offered which was to uninstall the Ask toolbar due to incompatibility. I checked for this and I don't have it.

  • What happened to the Right Click - Adobe Option in MS Windows Explorer?

I agree with snoogiedo - I used this function regulary for years. I tried the function the other day and it was gone. We use Adobe Acrobat X Pro 10.1.6.
I found the following link on the issue but I'm hestitant to edit my registry files.
    http://acrobatninja.blogspot.ca/2011/03/missing-convert-to-adobe-pdf-context.html

The fix on my blog is safe enough if you follow the instructions - it only does what the installer should have done in the first place.
Having said that, I'm getting some reports over the past week or two that another bug has appeared for some customers; they get the extra menu items but there's no text  on them. Can't work out what's going wrong yet.

  • Right click on Magic Mouse not working

    Hi
I am having this right click problem with my magic mouse.  The right click function just suddenly stopped working two days ago.
I have checked the Mouse>Preference> Secondary click is enabled to "Right"
However, when I changed the secondary click to "Left", the "right click" function works perfectly fine w/ the left click, but when I change it back to "Right" nothing happens.  I even tried unchecking the secondary click function (someone said that will work in another support site) but that doesn't help either.
I have tried removing batteries from my mouse, turning it off, turning bluetooth off, restarting the laptop...
Very confused right now.  Please help!!

The post is a month old now, but I did stumble upon it after I suddenly lost my "Magic Mouse" right click functionality.  Just as posted my; Mouse>Preference> Secondary click was enabled to "Right", though it would not work...
I tried everything including; restart iMac, enable and disable "Secondary Click", disconnecting the Mouse bluetooth and reconnecting it using my Magic Trackpad, etc.... until this ended up being my solution:
I went into System Preferences, Mouse>Preference> and disabled "Secondary click".  Then restarted the system.  Then returned to System Preferences, Mouse>Preference> and re-enabled Secondary Click.  That worked and was my solution and has been working fine since yesterday.
I hope this helps anyone who encounters the same as we have.

  • 1-click weather extension does not work in Firefox 4...

The 1-Click Weather extension does not work in Firefox 4. It comes up with a bunch of Javascript errors.

You'll need a little bit of tweaking on this add-on. Please read this link. It might take a little bit of work, but it does worth it as 1-Click Weather is a far better add-on than any others of the same category:

  • Inside the browser, right click on the mouse seems to be disabled. How can I enable the right click button? It works fine on toolbars and tab bar but not inside tabs or windows. I would like to be able to copy and paste and such. Thank you

Right mouse button does not open any menu when clicked inside of tabs or windows. Works properly on the toolbars, in the address line, search bar...etc. but has no action on the page I'm browsing. I purchased a mouse recently and like the old one, the right button works in all other areas of my operating system. I would like to know if there is a setting in firefox that I can change to correct this.

There are also websites that can disable the right-click context menu.
See Tools > Options > Content : JavaScript > Advanced > Allow Scripts to:
[ ] "Disable or replace context menus"
There are other things that need attention:
Your above posted system details show outdated plugin(s) with known security and stability risks that you should update.

  • HT2216 I am on OSX 10.7.5 and recently had to reinstall it due to 'mail' not working correctly.  That problem was resolved but now my I can't use the 'right click' function on the apple usb mouse.  Any clues?

I am on OSX 10.7.5 and recently had to reinstall it due to 'mail' not working correctly.  That problem was resolved but now my I can't use the 'right click' function on the apple usb mouse.  I only have a previous version re-install disc as I bought the latest OSX off the app store.  Any help gratefully received?

Hmmm, no, no drivers needed, now it sounds like a bad install... unless you might have some old Mouse software installed???
    If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
If that doesn't help Reinstall the OS.

  • I can't get my iMac to respond only the right click works

I can't get my iMac to restart itt seems to start Rita back where it was when I restart and my mouse is not responding right. I can't get it to click regularly. Only the right click works

Which mouse and iMac do you have? Over the past 4 years or so there have been at least 3 mice that work on Intel based iMacs.
The first place to check is the mouse's preferences which are at System Preferences - Mouse.
If they are set correctly then do a SMC reset and see if that solves the issue:
    SMC RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    PRAM RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • HT2523 Google search in the right-click menu doesn't open in default browser

    Hi ...,
Please share any suggestion that might help solve this issue.
    Thank you in advance!!

Oh, wow that makes sense! Thank you for your reply and tips!!
The link you gave is for Lion, but ok -- still props/kudos!!!
    I found this Chrome extension:
    "Highlight to Search"
allows you search keywords by highlighting instead of typing them into a search box
Google Highlight to Search is a browser extension that helps you search keywords easily.  After you highlight keywords within a web page, you'll see magnifying-glass icon appear below the highlighted keywords. By either clicking on the icon or the keywords itself, search-box with Autocomplete enabled appears for you to search quickly and easily.   By installing this extension, you agree to these terms: https://chrome.google.com/extensions/intl/en/gallery_tos.html This extension uses Google Search, and the data related to the query will be handled as described in Google's privacy policy: http://www.google.com/intl/en/privacypolicy.html
    Pretty awesome!

Between the hassle of replacing a hard drive, mouse problems, firefox, opera, office mac and elgato tv problems and issues im fed up.

Apple menu -> System preferences -> Keyboard and Mouse should give you controls over the mouse. If not, either Steer Mouse or USB Overdrive might give you better control.
