The screen on my ipod touch has a pic with the plug pointed to the itunes logo and it is frozen. The computer will not recognize the ipod anymore. I had updated the itunes to the latest version and the it was in the process of updating software in the ipod. It said that the download could not be completed. This is a new ipod touch.

Connect the iOS device to your computer restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased. Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode if necessary to allow the restore.
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

What are you talking about? There is no "compatibility feature" on the iPhone, and .exe files won't run on the phone.

You will need the help of some sort of 3rd party software to help you copy the content from your Shuffle back to your PC. Once you have done that, you can reimport this music into iTunes and configure it to sync to your new Shuffle.

The ipod is not a backup/storage device.
You need to copy everything from your old computer to your new one.
The Apple store will do this for you, you can call apple support and they will help you, you can use google.

I installed itunes 10.5 and now it will not recognize my phone-

I installed itunes 10.5 last week and now when I plug in my iPhone it will not recognize it. I've gone through all the recommended troubleshooting through Apple's site but it seems to make my computer worse. I re-installed itunes 3 times and it still will not find my phone when I plug it in. When I go to my device manager my "Apply Mobile Device USB Driver" has the little Yellow Triangle with the exclamation point it in- I checked for and updated driver but it says I have the most current one. I am running Windows Vista and itunes was working fine before I took the upgrade. Any help is appreciated!

I spent last week looking for a solution to that little yellow "!" needle haystack....
It is probably buried where nothing can touch or change it other than what I resorted to and would have saved time, clean install after I made sure to have two backup sets: Windows Easy Transfer plus Paragon clone OS and partitions to drive. Had to spend a full day reinstalling, updates, etc. Careful not to bring back any prefs or data that might be corrupt or wrong.
10.5 and iOS 5 on new iPod 4G works much better though and as they should and no issues like I had with AMS or other services or needing to restart first before launching iTunes.

My 16 gig iPod Nano 7th gen was put of power. I connected it to the computer and it started to turn on (the apple appeared in the middle of the screen). Then left it two minutes and the computer went into sleep mode. My iPod nano had gone off and now it will not turn on, or connect to the computer, so i cannot charge it. My computer is not registering the iPOD Shuffle when connected to either a front or rear USB port. I have updated the USB driver software. I have tried an older version of iTunes (7.2.x) and 7.6.1.9. When I connect the iPod to the USB port I get the message that this ipod was synced to a different iTunes (which is true but that computer died and is gone) and since I don't want to lose all the music on the ipod, I choose the CANCEL option. The problem is that the ipod never shows up in the iTunes source list so I can back up the songs. I can't update the ipod software because it isn't registered in the source list. How can iTunes realize that an ipod is connected and not register it in the source list? The ipod also doesn't show up using Explore. And the USZB port in device manager is showing the yellow triangle indicating a problem with the port. The properties box for that port states that MS is "disabling" the device. When I disconnet the ipod from the USB port, this yellow triangle clears automatically.
Anyone with any thoughts on this issue?

I double checked to ensure I had the right password and it is. I can log into my email from safari with no issues. I have varified that all account information is correct but its still not working. If Terminal doesn't scare you, you might try this line in Terminal...
sudo mv /var/db/CodeEquivalenceDatabase /var/db/CodeEquivalenceDatabase.old
Carefully type your admin password when asked & hit enter, as it won't be echoed, then restart the Mac.
The Password rejection can confuse people since it's a catch all meaning...
This Password, Username, Authentication method... is not recognized on this Port to this Server.

However, my computer is not able to find such software as it has never existed in the first place and my iPod usually just shows up perfectly.

i just bought a new ipod nano 3rd generation and my computer and itunes will not recognize it. i have downloaded the newest version of itunes and my computer meets all of the requirements, and it still is not working. the ipod guide that came with it said that setup assistant should come up, yet it has not.

Hmm.. I just checked again trying to put my Nano onto my girlfriends G5. It actually doesn't always show up. At first it didn't and then as I fiddled around with the setting (not changing anything generally) it came on. Hmm.... And then before I could look at it in itunes it went off. Said "Device Removal blah blah blah". Hmm... Then I couldn't get it on again. itunes actually wasn't responding and the ball kept spinning. Then I restarted itunes but it wouldn't come on. I tried the finder but that began to spin too and didn't stop. Even iCal wouldn't come on. So I restarted the computer.
