The search boxes in websites no longer list anything
Some time ago the search boxes in websites started returning blank lists.
If I copy the address and paste it into Chrome, I see a list.
This is the latest search I tried:

is blank in Firefox but says "About 172 results" in Chrome.
I had to remove 509 lines that started with "print.printer_... in the troubleshooting information below to get the message under 30,000 characters. Might that have something to do with the problem?

CC Desktop app no longer lists anything.
The Creative Cloud desktop application no longer lists anything. Period. (See screenshot.) All applications that have been installed are working. I get notifications of updates, but nothing is listed at all, even the things that are installed. I have removed, downloaded, and installed the CC desktop app again with no change. Running Win 7 64-bit.

itunes app no longer showing genres or the top charts/genius bar in the top bar ... it only displays a faint music in the centre with just the search box..why? i need them back:-(
The iTunes Store listing of your podcast is simply reflecting the contents of your podcast feed. Make sure all of the content you want displayed in the iTunes Store is still contained within your feed.

With firefox 4, google toobar seach box suggestions no longer appear in the search box itself
After installing Firefox 4:
When I start typing in the Google toolbar search box an item, like NYT and the search suggestions appear -- like NY Times -- I used to be able to click on "NY Times" and this would appear filled out in the Google search box. This no longer happens. Instead, what I have typed in is the only thing showing: NYT.I think this may not be a browser problem but rather a Google problem.
I am getting the same problem with the Google Chrome browser. -
Setting the colour of the search box text on a public website
I am using the search box snippet in the header of my public website.
The background of the header is a dark blue. The search box background is transparent so the default colour of the text (#444) on the dark blue background is barely visible.
The text colour appears to be set by the following entry in corev15.css:

I changed the colour from #444 to #FFFFFF.
Now I want to create a new post in the Blog. The new post's Title and Body fields use the same entry in corev15.css to set the colour of the text. As the background of the new post is white the text is invisible!
Using the F12 development function in IE, setting the colour of the Search box text with an inline function works, but when I add style="color:white" to the <input> of the Search box snippet it seems to be ignored.
What am I doing wrong? Is there another way around the problem (I don't want to change the background colour of the header nor the background of the post page and there is no colour that will display the text well enough against both backgrounds).
Your help would be much appreciated.

Adding color: white !important; inline in the <input tag of the Search box snippet is still ignored, however. When I look at the HTML and CSS with F12 in IE, the inline mark-up is not set. I guess this something to do with how the Search Box
snippet works?

After i upgrded to 4.0 i no longer have the search box in the middle of screen. is this correct?
on the home page of firefox, i no longer have the search box in the middle of screen. my whole screen is blank except for the menu bar.
You still have the option of using the slideshow feature in the Photos app. It's not in the lock screen anymore, but it is stll available there.

If the "Find in this message" search box has been left open, but I have selected a message in the message pane, if I use the delete key to delete the current message, the focus moves to the "Find" box. It took me a while to figure out why the focus did not remain in the message list so I could delete the next message. I can regain the desired behavior by closing the search box, but it would be nice to not need to. This is on a Windows 7 OS. I should check to see how it behaves on a Linux box.

Sometime I think I would like it if I could delete an iMessage completely.
Other times when reading them on my iPhone I wish to leave them until I can answer them with something that is on my Mac.
It seems that as a device or a Mac that is off line can "catch up" on iMessages sent within a few hours would suggest that the iMessages are held on the server for a period.
It would be handy for different levels of "deletion".

Question about the "Suggestions" feature in the search box
How can you tell if the “Suggestions” in the search box are generic or part of my own browsing history? Can the suggestion history be cleared?
Hey Andy..thanks for the response. The reason I asked is when I start typing in the search box a drop down list of suggestions appears and some of the suggestions I'm not sure where they are coming from. Also, I thought maybe it was based on my own browsing. Example I was typing in a name and it started suggesting specific people. Curious if was because I had gone to their website in the past or it was based juts on my location and the algorithms of the search engine to make a suggestion. I have even cleared my browsing history but the same suggestions come up.

The normal google page works fine, but the search boxes on the home page (below firefox logo and the one top RH corner) just go nowhere unless you change the search provider using the dropdown, to yahoo or bing etc, in whcih case it searches fine - just won't work with google, which I prefer to use. I have an older version 3.6.13 on another desktop and that still works fine.

* Firefox 3.6 is no longer supported and will no longer be updated for security vulnerabilities or any other updates.
*On resetting '''browser.startup.homepage_override.mstone''': It's normal for the "welcome to Firefox" tab to open and for that preference to revert back to user-set and show Firefox 14.0.1 afterwards.
*On deleting the chromeappsstore.sqlite file in the Firefox Profile Folder and then resetting that preference again: You can open the Profile folder from the Firefox Help -> Troubleshooting Information page. See the [[Profiles]] article for more information.
* On installing new search engines from http://mycroft.mozdev.org that simply adds new search providers to the [[Search Bar|Search Bar]]. It does not install a new search bar. You will still have a single Search Bar and the "normal" Google will still be listed.
Getting back to Google not working from the about:home homepage or from the upper right corner search box, you said,

If you can go to www.google.com directly, and it works fine:
I would try removing Google from the list of search providers and then use the "Restore Defaults" button in the Search Bar "Manage Search Engine List" dialog to add it back to the list, then select it again as your default. The [[Search Bar|Search Bar]] article explains in detail how to do that. (Alternately, try the [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/searchreset/ Search Reset] add-on. This should also add back Google and set it as the default.)
If you try going to www.google.com but it never connects, that's a whole other issue. Putting that aside for now, if you would rather use google.co.uk from the Search Bar, you can install it <u>as an additional choice from the Search Bar drop-down menu</u>, by going here:

I've been using IE9 for about a month now, trying to get used to all the new things. Performance-wise it's nice, and the changes to security are welcome. Okay, so the color-management is half baked, and it still has its problems, but I guess
it's an improvement.
But what idiot decided to make the search box and the address field one and the same?
You think I'm being petty? Go try to research what a particular file is - for example, go see if you can find info on "bib.dll".
It wants to make it into a URL. It's not a URL. It may LOOK like one, but it's a name, honest!
Putting quotes around it doesn't help. Maybe I'm missing the advanced syntax it takes to get such a thing to be a search term instead of a URL. Even if so, how is this an improvement or simplification? It's certainly not intuitively obvious how
to force a search, short of dredging up a link to Google and typing info in there directly.
Doing a search and typing in an address are two FUNDAMENTALLY DIFFERENT THINGS.
And hey, it's not a big deal that you can no longer see what it was you searched for, and maybe even edit it and search again. No, because now the search engine pages have to waste space to put up a box showing what you just searched for, since it's
now GONE out of the address field.
How does stuff like this pass a design review?

This isn't right. Ever hear the phrase "apples and oranges" to describe two things that don't go together? That concept fits well here.
You say that thinking along the lines of "you no longer had to think about which box you want to type into" helped justify the change.
Is there something wrong with thinking? This is akin to saying, "you no longer had to think about which nozzle at the gas station to fill your tank from".
Diesel doesn't work in a gas engine. Nor does the water from the garden hose.
You say "both methods of typing work in the one box". But they don't, logically! Did you actually read this thread?

Alas, what the simple users of the general public want and what experienced computer users need are clearly two different things, and it's clear looking back that this move simply marked another step in Microsoft's clear intent
to walk away from making serious computer operating systems that actually
work. Windows 8 is testament to that (and don't tell me you haven't noticed all the negative response). Other such things include Windows Search - which is designed to be unable to actually do an exhaustive search... Even going
back as far as hiding file extensions by default. And don't get me started on the use of telemetry to justify deprecating such things as Windows Backup.
Do you understand the difference between leading and following? Which, as a concept, would you say is better? You need to stay the hell away from trying to emulate what Google does. You can do better! If you want a different
example, follow Firefox - it still has a search box. Even Apple - known for dumbing things down to the level of the family dog - stil puts a search box in Safari.
I don't mean to be critical of your response, Ed, but this is a good example of "the operation was a success but the patient died".
Thank goodness there are 3rd party developers who are struggling to put back functionality Microsoft keeps removing. But then Microsoft removes the APIs they use. That's not going to keep!

In iTunes 10, I could type "Sinatra" in the search file, and would get a list of all tracks with "Sinatra" in any field. In iTunes 11 I get these clever little windows, with nice arrows, but no lists to view. What am I missing?
Thanks for chipping in. I discovered something after trying what you suggested. I have quite a few collections of hits by year from Time Life and Billboard. I've eliminated duplicate tracks that appear in both collections (or other CDs for that matter), but cross-reference the CD where I deleted the track and placed in in the comments section of the CD track I retained. If I "search" by song name, only the remaining track appears. But if I want to hear for example Classic Rock 1964, only those tracks remaining would be there when I pull up that CD. So, I type "Classic Rock 1964," in the search field. First the boxes on the right of the screen open up showing album icons. Showing four tracks by album with a button to view 10 more, then four songs with an option to vies 18 more. I finally noticed that at the top of the boxes is a blue band that reads, :Show Classic Rock 1964 in Music. When I double click on this blue band, all 24 tracks from the original CD appear in the song list format even though I had deleted two of them because they appeard in a Beach Boys CD. On those tracks, I had referenced Classic Rock 1964 in the comments field. So, bottom line, Search will also look in the comments field if you click "filter by all" in the magnifying glass to the left of the search field. And you can move all tracks that if finds into a song list by double clicking on the blue band.

Hi I would like to know how to disable the drop down box which appears below the search box on the start page when I start to type in my search topic. If for example the first letter I type in is an S then it shows a list of previous searches of sites beginning with the letter S.

I would like to highlight a word or phrase on a website while in Firefox and press a shortcut key to do a web search on this term without retyping the whole word or phrase into the search box. Can this be done?
If you select a word or phrase, then right-click you should get the option to search for that word or phrase. It will use the search engine that is currently selected in the [[search bar]].

The location box is so short I can not see the url I'm typing in, such as 'yahoo.com' while the search box is so long I can type a whole sentence into it
Place the mouse pointer between the location bar and the search bar and it will become a resize icon that you can drag right or left to adjust the relative size of the two bars.
