The "Search Forum" div has rendering glitches

Hi,
The "Search Forum" div has had these rendering glitches for quite a few months now. Here's a screenshot of how it is being rendered in my browser (Safari 4.0.3, OS X 10.6.1). I hope somebody manages to fix it!

  • The discussion forum's search box still has rendering glitches.

It has been reported several times but is not fixed yet. In Safari 4 the search box is being rendered like this: http://imgur.com/tRAic
Somebody fix this please! It is very distracting!
    Cheers,
    Behi

Not if you click on the Discussions link in Apple.com > Support > Discussions > Using Apple Discussions > Feedback about Discussions
It goes to a page that says "Welcome, Guest" (even though I'm logged in) with s mangled search box.
This also happens when I click on the Return to Forum link at the top of the thread.

  • The Search Forum "glitch"

There's a thread going on about the glitch in the Search Forum dialog box. Some users are now going ballistic and having cows over it. It has been around for a very long time now. Why hasn't it been dealt with yet? It's no skin off my nose and I don't see why some would get all obsessed with it but they are apparently.

This bothers me every time I login. Why wouldn't Apple fix a display glitch that affects their own browser?
Well, as others have stated earlier, the forum software is not developed, owned, or controlled by Apple. The software vendor will have to correct the code. And before you ask, just because the glitch is not visible with the Firefox browser doesn't mean the code is correct. There are different interpretations as to correct html syntax and how the various rendering engines handle such code. What would be interesting would be to see if the glitch is present when using Google's Chrome browser since Safari and Chrome use the same rendering engine, namely Webkit.
Still, it is mildly annoying that this glitch hasn't been dealt with. It's been around for a long time. You would think either Apple or the forum software vendor would have taken care of it by now.
Well, I just performed my own suggested experiment. I downloaded Chrome and the display glitch is there, just like in Safari. So the problem is either the forum software coding or Webkit, either, or, or both.

  • Irony: Why can't Safari render the Search Forum box on this page correctly?

I've tried loading the Apple Discussions page on several different Macs, and the Search Forum box is never rendered correctly. It looks like there is a search box inside a box, and looks ugly.
It looks more normal on Firefox.

    HI,
Despite the aesthetics, it has no adverse effect on search results. The forum is supported by Jive software, not Apple.

It may have no adverse effect on the search results, but it gives a poor impression and ultimately reflects badly on Apple and their Safari web browser... especially when other web browsers manage to render the page perfectly well.
That the forum is powered by 3rd-party software is hardly mitigation and, if anything, only reinforces the irony mentioned by the original poster.

I also just posted about this- having same issue.  Make an appointment & take it in.  I've called Apple twice & they could not help me over the phone.

  • The search engine ASK has been coming up ever since yesterday's update on Mozilla. I have made sure all the settings in my computer say Google and it still comes up. Did you do this purposely because it is really annoying?

My home page is igoogle and this works fine. But if I put a word in the search bar at the top (which says google) it immediately pulls up ASK.

This one had me pulling my hair out. For someone's future reference, I may have found a solution via google, using this page:
http://www.ejeliot.com/blog/59. I added an empty div below my floated child divs and added clear:both
to it. I think I may be okay on this issue now.

  • Version 30: I hit the bookmarks star & the search function has disappeared. Plus, the b/marks list covers part of the tab... can i get the search back?

FFox updated itself to version 30 -- most unfortunately as it happens. Until now, hitting the bookmarks star opened a window on the left with a search window on top & the list of bmarks following. The search window now has disappeared, and the bmarks list covers the actual page I am browsing...
Can I get the search function back? Maybe even put a stop to bmarks list maskign whatever I am browsing?
Alternatively, what other reputable browser can you recommend thereby ridding myself of this and any future destructive "improvements"?
    Thank you

I seem to recall that this site had the capability of searching the Captivate Forum only.  Is my only alternative to specify Captivate in the Search Forums box?  This seems a deprovement to me.  Maybe I'm missing something?
    Thanks,

    Hi Julie
When using the Search, type your search term(s) and follow by typing a space and +Captivate.

  • Search forums - please restrict to current forum

The "search forums" field in the top right of the page currently searches all the forums. It would seem more logical for it to only search forums at the level that the user is currently browsing.
Alternatively add a "search this forum" field.

They claim it is updated in the next production release (though I don't have a date for it making it to our site yet).
    >With Jive SBS, the quick search available in the user bar has an option that allows the user to limit the quick search results based upon the container being viewed within the context of the current page. So if looking at Space A, if you type some text in the quick search, there is now a link at the top of the results that can be used to limit the results to only Space A. The same holds true when viewing the profile of a particular user - there is a link at the top of the quick search results allowing the user to limit results to only those by the current user being viewed.
    >Also, on the search page in Jive SBS, the more options sections has been completely redone. It now includes a text field into which you can type the name of a container that you want to limit results to rather than having the select list box from previous versions.
