The search function and up next option on mini player has dissapeared?
I don't know what I've clicked, or maybe not touched anything but in the last few weeks the search function and up next playlist has disappeared on the mini player. I'm using OS Mavericks, anyone else having this problem or know what to do? Thanks
With the exception of the occasional Russian and German questions that appear here... If the manual is written in English, and the questions posted here are predominantly written in English, I'm not convinced that language is therefore the problem.
I think it kind of works like this... When newbs come here, they:
1) have no prior experience to realize how often a similar question's been posted
2a) aren't familiar with the "etiquette" of searching for similar questions befor posting
2b) aren't familiar the lameness of the search engine on this forum in order to even get answers; or, they've tried it and come up with years' worth of posts to sift through and quickly move to...
3) ...posting a question because they want a quick fix -- they're probably excited about getting up and running quickly with Logic
I have always had problems with the readability of the Logic manual, and I still find it difficult to comprehend because it's really poorly written (IMO). Most, sentences in, it read, like, this. And there's a wont of illustrations (pictures are worth...).
I think some questions are so basic that they don't behoove a response moreso than "spend some time with the manual first". Occasionally I've indulged a total newb (not to single anyone out). It's maybe 75/25 that I felt like I had actually made a difference to their understanding, the poor ratio due to the fact that they simply needed to read the manual first.
Yes, it's frustrating to see newb posts dominate for a while and push more serious questions to the bottom. The occasional OT post is OK, IMO, but what bugs me more is when they predominate.
BTW, can anyone recommend some good strings for a 3-string backpack-style dulcimer?

The little 'E' that was next to my signal bars has dissapeared and now i can't send texts, make calls or go on the internet. WHY? HELP!
As suggested make sure "cellular data" is ON and you have valid cellular data plan.
That "E" sign only shows the network (Edge) or 3G (if you are in the 3G network), but it has no relation to you not been able to make regular calls or sending regular texts with network signal (in the form of bars) being present.
Double check if you have credit in your phone (in case of pre-paid) or if you have reached your limit (in case of post-paid) -
I used the search function, and gaming is VERY unclear
Half of the people say do not buy a macbook for gaming, the other half say you can play games on it. I looked around, and apparently you can play WoW, every steam game, etc.
My question: Will Counter-strike 1.6 run well?
I really want to know, since this is almost the only game I play.I don't know for sure but it seems fair to say that CS 1.6 will run. It's a really old game (like 7 years) so the video card, processor, ram and everything should be more than enough. I wouldn't count on CS:Source, Half life 2, day of defeat source or any newer steam game however since they all need dedicated video cards with at least 128mb of ram on them

I personally and professionally rely on text messaging extensively. Since upgrade, the search function doesn't work correctly. It only returns partial results. This has never happened with previous upgrades. All the old texts are there but it does not search the entire history. If i compose new text and duplicate the recipients from an old text, it will bring up string...just cant search for it. PLEASE HELP SOMEONE.

The iPad cover lock is for when you use a cover with magnets in it to lock and unlock the iPad when you close the cover or open it. Try running a refrigerator magnet along the sides of the iPad and see if that trips the iPad Cover Lock back into the settings.
That is not the same thing as the iPad Auto Lock setting which allows you to set an allotted time before the iPad goes to sleep.
You can try resetting all settings to see if the Auto Lock feature retinrs to the iPad.
Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. This can be a little time consuming re-entering all of the device settings again. -
PDF files are very faint and the search function doesn't highlight the search term when found

Using Firefox 5.0 with Windows 7 on a laptop, whenever I click the 'Group Tabs' icon to the right of my tabs, the search function immediately comes up over my grouped tabs, preventing me from using any of them. When the search function comes up, the screen goes semi-dark and the search bar appears - any text I type at this time is entered into the search bar (the search function works normally). If I click any section of the screen at this time the search function disappears and the screen regains color - but only for a fraction of a second, and then the search function comes up again, along with the darkened screen. Hitting 'escape' or 'backspace' produces the same effect. Is there any way to disable this unceasing search function?
This is something you need to report via the Feedback button (or use the link on the Help menu).
Firefox 5.0 is still in BETA and not slated for release until June 21.
Reinstall the full version of the current release which is v4.0.1, download link at the top of this forum. -
The search function in the itunes store does not work. It will accept a request and suggest searches but then it locks up and will not search. Clicking on the magnifying glass or a suggested search does nothing. Re-installing itunes has not helped.

my iphone will no longer connect to my home wifi. it recognises it, but the searching cirlce is constant next to network name. there are three laptops and another iphone on the same wifi that have no connectivity issues. i have reset the network settings but that did not help. the issue started last week when the second iphone was introduced to the house, could this be the cause?

How can I filter to find photos NOT pinned to a map? I have 28,000 phots with many mapped and many not. The Search function does not include GPS data. I haven't found way to search metadata inside or out of Elements.

in a serachable dictionnary ( old greek-English) in pdf format the search function works when entering English words but not when entering greek words using the polytonic Greek keyboard from Windows. Why ? Is there a solution to search for Greek words ?
Try a copy/paste some of the Greek text out into Word. Does it display as expected in Word?

You think I'm being petty? Go try to research what a particular file is - for example, go see if you can find info on "bib.dll".
It wants to make it into a URL. It's not a URL. It may LOOK like one, but it's a name, honest!
Putting quotes around it doesn't help. Maybe I'm missing the advanced syntax it takes to get such a thing to be a search term instead of a URL. Even if so, how is this an improvement or simplification? It's certainly not intuitively obvious how
to force a search, short of dredging up a link to Google and typing info in there directly.
Doing a search and typing in an address are two FUNDAMENTALLY DIFFERENT THINGS.
And hey, it's not a big deal that you can no longer see what it was you searched for, and maybe even edit it and search again. No, because now the search engine pages have to waste space to put up a box showing what you just searched for, since it's
now GONE out of the address field.
How does stuff like this pass a design review?

This isn't right. Ever hear the phrase "apples and oranges" to describe two things that don't go together? That concept fits well here.
You say that thinking along the lines of "you no longer had to think about which box you want to type into" helped justify the change.
Is there something wrong with thinking? This is akin to saying, "you no longer had to think about which nozzle at the gas station to fill your tank from".
Diesel doesn't work in a gas engine. Nor does the water from the garden hose.
You say "both methods of typing work in the one box". But they don't, logically! Did you actually read this thread?

Alas, what the simple users of the general public want and what experienced computer users need are clearly two different things, and it's clear looking back that this move simply marked another step in Microsoft's clear intent
to walk away from making serious computer operating systems that actually
work. Windows 8 is testament to that (and don't tell me you haven't noticed all the negative response). Other such things include Windows Search - which is designed to be unable to actually do an exhaustive search... Even going
back as far as hiding file extensions by default. And don't get me started on the use of telemetry to justify deprecating such things as Windows Backup.
Do you understand the difference between leading and following? Which, as a concept, would you say is better? You need to stay the hell away from trying to emulate what Google does. You can do better! If you want a different
example, follow Firefox - it still has a search box. Even Apple - known for dumbing things down to the level of the family dog - stil puts a search box in Safari.
I don't mean to be critical of your response, Ed, but this is a good example of "the operation was a success but the patient died".
Thank goodness there are 3rd party developers who are struggling to put back functionality Microsoft keeps removing. But then Microsoft removes the APIs they use. That's not going to keep!

Is there a way to use the 'search' function outside the search menu
Is it possible, to activate the 'search function' outside the 'search menu' on the iPod classic ? With 30000 songs and more on an iPod, it would be great, if I could use this option i.e. in cover flow, display songs, or display albums. This way, I won't get any blisters on my fingers, from scrolling from "A hard day's night" to "You can't do that".

1. If you just have a few items you don't want included when you shuffle then find them in your library or playlist, pull up the info on the song/book/etc (File menu, Get info option), go to the "Options" tab and click the box that says "Skip when shuffling"
2. If there are a lot of items, then you may want to create a smart playlist (File menu, New Smart Playlist option) and set it up so that it excludes all the items you don't want. Then you can play that playlist on shuffle.

In OS Yosemite the search function in Mail, Finder, Spotlight… does not work. Messages or documents with the search criteria are there and one could find them manually, but the search function fails to find them. Following advice from Apple Support (728965377):
1. I applied an Apple protocol for adware removal (Remove unwanted adware that displays pop-up ads and graphics on your Mac); I had none, because I had formally utilized a similar protocol that I had found in Internet, actually an app that implemented automatically Apple's adware removal protocol.
2. I rebuild the post boxes in Mail (Mail (Yosemite): Reconstruir buzones); It took a while but it functioned properly
3. I re-install the System (OS X Yosemite: Reinstalar OS X); It took about 4 hours but there was no problem whatsoever with the installation.
Afterwards I searched for messages in Mail, and documents in Finder and Spotlight, without any difficulty. The search function in all of them was working properly. But the next time that I needed to search messages or documents, an hour later or so, the problem reappear and a couple of new issues occurred:
1. in app RagTime 6.5.2 (Build 1821), www.ragtime.de, the menu bar disappears (it is invisible), when one performs certain operations, e. g., calculating a value with a formula, whether it is in a spreadsheet or some other component (text, drawing, etc.). After touching with the cursor the menu bar is visible again.
2. after reading an e-mail in Mail or copying an address, this is seeing as a floating object in the finder and over every application. There is no logical way to get rid of the floating object and neither copying or deleting or cutting it. It is not a big issue but nonetheless bothersome.
3. In Mail, messages with Flag or in VIP contacts cannot be seen in the appropriate folders, only in the Incoming mail folder, together with other messages. It seems to me, this issue is part of same search function problem.
4. The preview function within Mail does not show the attached documents to a message, whether it is in the IN, OUT or Draft boxes.Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try again to re-index Spotlight. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

Apparrently, the search function lost as wellI am not familiar with Skim, but I use Adobe Reader all the time and it is quite fast on my Mac mini. Perhaps not as fast as Preview but still quite acceptable. If it is running that slow on your Mac I would suspect either you are low on RAM or perhaps the file you are reading is ill-formed. Are these problems occurring on more than one PDF from more than one original source? Do all PDFs scroll slowly or just some?
