The second monitor isn't determined after Thunderbolt was updated
Hi, everyone
I have an iMac (mid 2011) and I have a Sony TV that's connected to iMac as the second monitor via miniDP-HDMI adaptor (iWires). This system had been working properly before Thunderbolt was updated two days ago. I suspect the connection was active during the update was setting up and it could destroy the adaptor.
Does anyone have the same problem or its solution?
ok I am sorry, the working monitor will work on both parts. The non-working one will not work on any port. It's getting power from the port, cause the light on the monitor will come on. Just no picture, all black. It have two different types of ports, one plugs right in, the other I have to use the DVI/ADC adapter. Again, the non-working doesn't work on any port and the working one does on both. So I guess it's more of a monitor issues than a port or mac setting thing. I did the PRAM reset but still no help. Any other ideas or is it dead?

I had an dual display image / setup working twice for a few seconds, but then it cut out. I think there may be a problem with the thunderbolt port.
As far as I can tell you have only listed that you have a DVI monitor connected to the Mini Displayport socket (i.e. the Thunderbolt socket) via presumably the Apple Mini Displayport to DVI adapter and a DVI to DVI cable.
You don't appear to have listed what the second monitor is and how it is connected (even though not working). As such I cannot tell what may be wrong. -
Mac mini doesn't recognize the second monitor
I have Mac mini mid 2011 with dual display setup - one HDMI, the Second one thunderbolt to DVI adapter.
Majority of times it doesn't recognize the second monitor connected through thunderbolt. Sometimes it start suddenly after a while, I've read there are some issues with the 10.10.2 Yosemite...

The strange thing is that sometimes it suddenly starts and works smoothly... Really strange problem. I will try a new adapter Thunderbolt to HDMI....
What is the worst, when both monitors work smoothly and I put the computer to sleep or i shut it down, when started all over the monitor is not recognized.

I'm trying to set up a dual monitor for my new iMac. I'm using a second display I used with my old G5. My iMac recognizes the second monitor but the monitor won't turn on. Power button doesn't do anything on the monitor itself.
If it won't turn on then the monitor is dead (power supply?, video circuits?). Not worth repairing.
If you have a new iMac then it has thunderbolt. So exactly what is that monitor you are trying to connect? For TB you can connect a mini-displayport monitor. Probably (not 100% sure with TB) can use dvi or vga too if you have the appropriate adapter. -

If you are already set up that way and want to move the menu bar to the other monitor, drag it there in the Arrangement tab of the Displays system pref. -
How do I get my Mac Pro to see the second monitor through a video splitter and/or switcher?
In a recording studio we have a Mac Pro with two video display monitors in the control room and we want to be able to show the content of the second monitor to the person in the recording room on a big display monitor there. However, when we interpose a switcher or splitter between the computer and the second monitor so that we can (with a switcher) switch the second monitor signal from the control room monitor to the record room monitor or (with a splitter) split the signal to go to both monitors, we have no luck. On startup the computer does not see the monitor through the switcher, so it doesn't recognize its existence. If we start the computer up without the switcher in the signal chain, it sees the second monitor just fine, and (weirdly enough) we can then change the cabling to interpose the switch, which then works to switch back and forth between second monitors (control room and record room), but that cable swapping's a royal PITA. We want a simple solution that will allow us to start up the computer, see the second monitor in the control room, then choose to show it to the person in the record room with a simple flip of the switch (or even better, split the signal so it's available both places). We have a full ProTools HD Accel 3 system installed, so there's no room to install a second video card. Thanks.

The general gist of these rules is that to drive three monitor son a 5x70 you need two active adapters. That is why one of your monitors was disabled when you tried to add a third.
Here's a good explanation of what's going in here and why you need two active adapters on these cards:

If you use DVI monitors and any of them have resolutions less than 1920 x 1200 then you can use single link active adapters. The "AMD Eyefinity Validated Dongles" chart shows some active (and passive) adapters that are acceptable. For example of a single link DVI active adapter is the Accell B087B-006B. An example of a dual link DVI active adapter would be the one from monoprice.com if you need to connect monitors with a resolution greater than 1920 x 1200.
I'm doubtful that SwitchResX would be able to convince the computer that there were only two monitors connected and direct the second monitor signal to the correct place, but it certainly seems worth a try, so thanks for the idea! Any other ideas are still welcome in the meantime.
I'm not doubtful. It is a very powerful utility for dealing with all aspects of multiple monitor configurations (they call them "Display Sets") complete with forcing EDID information if necessary. The different configurations can be controlled with a (contextual) menu and/or hot key.
SwitchResX is academic at this point if you want to have all three monitors connected. You would need to get that working first. Then use SwitchResX to vary the configuration combinations. So if you go this route the "name of the game" is figure out the active adapters you need.
I only described in general terms above about the adapters since you never said exactly what kind of connections these monitors require (single link DVI, dual link DVI, hdmi, mini-displayport, vga). -
Run into this problem a few times now. If I have full screen playback going to my second monitor, and then I try to do something like link media and the link media window opens on that second monitor I can't figure out a way to get to it. I end up having to force quit. Because the link media window causes all other application buttons to disable while it is open I have not been able to find a solution other than force quitting, reopen and disable full screen playback, open link media window and move it to the other monitor and then again enable full screen playback.
Has anyone run into this? Am I missing an easy solution?You need to set up your Graphics Card Application first eg A and B Monitors , side by side etc.
In my case..a NVidea Display Application does this from the Control Panel
Then the second monitor will appear in display setting (Premiere).

I dont like the gray background on the second monitor that comes up when an app is in fullscreen mode and want to change it.

My mac won't recognize an external monitor. The screen Goes Blue Once, then goes blue again and the second monitor just turns off. I am using an HDMI adapter to a visio TV. I also have my xbox on the tv. Can anyone Help??
Lol, figured out the first part. Just for those who may be searching, when you click on the Display Preferences, and click on the arraingment tab... it not only shows where your two screens will be displayed, but the WHITE BAR at the top of one screen is the dock/toolbar. Click and hold to grab this and just slide it over to the screen you'd like it to be on.
You have to release it IN the screen box, not on top of it... and it should pop right over to the new (or old) screen. At any rate, you can put the dock on either (or any) screen that you prefer.
I am thinking of ordering more of these. Lol. 3 monitor setup seems like it would be crazy good.
Still looking for the answer to keeping the new 16" screen on the right without switching between screen #s with that... not expose... Lion feature.

The Source Monitor isn't showing the video, and crashes when importing to Source Monitor or Timeline
The Source Monitor has no Black Box (which is within that video displays); and when I try to load a file into the Source Monitor, I get this, after the screen whites out:

Im having a weird problem with illustrator cc here. I hope you can give me a hand.
Im Working with two monitors on a macbook pro mid 2009 with 8g ram and Yosemite installed.
When I'm working on the main monitor the illustrator works smoothly. But when I drag any window to the second monitor it starts acting strangely.
I can select the vectors, but I can not move them. Sometimes appears a prohibited sign next to the cursor.
If I try to open a file when I'm on the second monitor, the illustrator just freezes and I can only close it forcing the closure.
Have uninstalled and installed several times and did not solve.
I have a tablet wacon. Reseted adjustments too.
This does not happen to me in CS6, on the same computer.
Any ideas?
Tks!I have the exact same problem. At first I thought it was the Wacom (you should look into that too... I ended up just uninstalling mine because it was causing problems), but now I've noticed it's just when I try to work in my second monitor window. Basically I think Yosemite + Adobe CC 2014 are not a happy couple.

I had uninstalled iMovie 10 after it was updated and decided to reinstall it but it won't update, iMovie 10 update is stuck at installed in my App Store account. How do I get it the update to revert to uninstalled so I can re-update iMovie 10 to 10.0.1? iMovie 9.0.9 (iLife 11) is still installed and working.

The ipad screen is white. Holding buttons didn't work so I restored it on iTunes. When I press home and on switch, the screen is white, goes black then back to white with no logo at all. Can't get past the white screen. This happened after running app updates. Is there any fix besides going to Apple store? In iTunes on computer can see what is on there. 16GB OS 7.1.1
