The selected disk is of the GPT partition style - MBP 2013

Hi,
I get this error dialog in the windows 8.1 installer, when newly installing windows into a bootcamp created partition.
Machine:
* 2013 Macbook pro with retina display.
* 16GB RAM
* 1TB SSD
Reproduction:
* Use Bootcamp Assistant to create a USB stick with the Win8.1 Enterprise ISO, and the "Windows support files" (check the box in bootcamp assistant).
* Bootcamp restarts the laptop into the Windows 8.1 installer
* In the win 8.1 installer, On the Partitions screen I see 4 options
     * Partition 1 (EFI)
     * Partition 2 (OSX 600GB)
     * Partition 3 (small - likely the recovery partition)
     * Partition 4 (BOOTCAMP 120GB)
* Selecting Partition 4, gives the warning message "Windows can't be installed in drive 0 partition 4 (show details)" and the detail gives the error message "The selected disk is of the GPT partition style". The next button is disabled.
Does anyone know how to get past this?
Cheers!

hello, i was able to fix this on a intel I5 iMac as follows
- use Disk Utility
- click on the partition tab
- select the partition that was created by bootcamp, in my case it was named untitled but I could tell by the size that is was the one created by bootcamp
- delete this partition by clicking on the minus key
- create a new partition by clicking on the plus key
- give it a name and specify format as exFAT
- restart the computer and hold down the option key until you see the startup options
- select the device that contains your windows install iso image either USB or DVD drive
- win install will ask you to select the partition to install to
- select the partition you created with Disk Utility
- installer will complain that the partition format needs to be NTFS
- click on the Format button and the partition will be formatted as NTFS
- continue with the install

  • "the selected disk is of the gpt partition style" upon installation

    I am writing this from my phone as I am stuck in the win7 installation. I deleted the partition carrying the amazing win 8.1 and when I thought I'll just chop it up and install win7, it says it has other plans. what do I need to do to let me install win7?
    This question was solved.

    When installing newer versions of windows it is impotant to understand that there are two main formats for harddrives and there are also two forms of booting.
    UEFI Booting:
    Newer computers come with what is known as a uefi booting interface. This allows for additional features such as secure boot as well as HP UEFI support environment which allows you to test various hardwares components without booting into an operating system.
    UEFI operating systems use the GUID Partition Table (GPT) disk format which allows for more partitions as well as larger harddrive capacity.
    BIOS Booting:
    Older computers have the BIOS which contans the basic settings as well as the time and date of the onboard system clock. Features such as virtualization or CPU over-clocking (as available on selected hardware) are able to be turned on and off in the BIOS. Most of the features of the BIOS have now been replicated in the newer UEFI boot.
    BIOS based operating systems use the Master Boot Record (MBR) disk format which allows support for legacy operationg systems.
    What does this mean:
    In order to downgrade your unit from windows 8.1 to windows 7 you can either
    Format the Disk to the MBR format.  (Make sure to backup your data before you do this)
    Boot your windows 7 installation media in UEFI mode (Ensure your UEFI boot mode is set to UEFI Hybrid for maximum compatibility)
    Diskpart selects the physical disk rather than the partitions so when you convert between MBR and GPT (and vice-versa) you will lose the recovery partition. Provided you have HP/Windows recovery media you shouldn't experience too much difficulty with recovering your computer.
    Hope this has assisted you and best of luck with your Re-Installation

  • Windows Server 2008 r2 install error gpt partition style

    Good morning I am trying to install Window Server 2008 r2 (trail) on my Dell inspiron 15 and also keep Windows 8 when I set up a partition of 50G and go thru the install it tells me The selected Disk is of the GPT partition style.  How do I fix this
    issue.
    Thanks
    Mike

    Hi,
    Since we are still discussing the same problem, so I merged them.
    I want to confirm some information. Is your computer boot in BIOS mode or UEFI mode? Open computer management->Disk management->Properties->Volumes.
    Is your current partition type GPT or MBR?
    For now,
    starting with Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1, all versions of Windows Server can use GPT partitioned disks for data. Booting is only supported for 64-bit editions
    on Itanium-based systems. For windows 7, windows VISTA and window server 2008, Booting is only supported for 64-bit editions on UEFI-based systems.
    So, the solution is either to change the boot mode or convert your disk. Remind, if you want to convert your disk, data on it should be cleared.
    Hope this helps.

  • "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, windows can only be installed to GPT disks." Error

    Hey Im getting the following error when trying to install windows from a USB.
    "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, windows can only be installed to GPT disks."
    I installed the windows 8 (64bit) iso using boot camp to a usb.  I was able to do this after changing the info.plist to allow me to place the iso on the usb.  After I make the partition and start the install, I get the above error.  I formatted the partition in the installation but I keep getting this error.  I've repreated the entire process but i keep getting this errror and the disk utility says my partition is a Windows NT File System (NTFS) so im not sure what's going on.  If you can help me that would be greatly appreciated

    I am having the same problem. Windows is trying to install. It identifies the various partitions but says that I cannot install Windows on the Boot Camp partition or any other. I select Drive options (advanced) and Format the Boot Camp drive, but it makes no difference.
    This is the Windows error:

    Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer BIOS menu.
    I am not sure what Csound1 is suggesting with that post above. There are some involved suggestions over here <https://discussions.apple.com/message/23548999#23548999> about using Disk Utility to delete the Boot Camp partition and create new ones - is that the idea?

  • Windows cannot be installed to this disk 0. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI system, Windows can only be installed on GPT disks

    Hi All,
    I have been trying real hard to install Windows 8 on my Macbook Pro early 2011 model. I followed the instruction given by Bootcamp word to word, all things went very smoothly untill I was asked Windows Setup Instaled to selct the Hard drive. Here's the error:
    "Windows cannot be installed to this disk 0. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI system, Windows can only be installed on GPT disks...."
    Let me know guys what should I do?
    Thanks,
    Attiqe

    You have started the Windows 8 installer in EFI mode, and you don't have to start in EFI mode on a Mac because your Mac emulates a BIOS and a MBR partition table in order to install Windows in non-EFI mode.
    To start the Windows installer, hold the Option (Alt) key while your computer is starting and have a look at all the boot options you have. You should see two with a DVD above and they must be named "Windows" and "EFI Boot". Choose the option with "Windows" and follow the steps to install Windows. Note that you have to format the "BOOTCAMP" partition from the installer to be able to install Windows.
    If you are trying to install Windows from a USB drive, note that your computer isn't compatible to do it

    You must use the Windows formatter to format your Windows partition NTFS. Please be sure you select the Windows partition otherwise you might end up formatting your OS X partition NTFS.

  • You can't change the startup disk to the selected disk?

    System Preferences: Startup Disk: Bootcamp (Windows 7 64): "You can't change the startup disk to the selected disk. The bless tool unable to set bootcamp disk"

    I got the same problem, only with Win 7, but after a day's search on the net I found a solution. Something very simple and easy to use.
    Open up Terminal and run the following command, where DISK NAME is the name of the disk you want to boot in. PS. use the quotes (") if you disk's name is longer than 2 words.
    sudo bless -mount /Volumes/"DISK NAME" -setBoot
    THIS WORKED FOR ME!!

  • I have just installed a new hard drive in my imac intel 20" (2006) and now the hard drive does not show up in the 'select destinations' folder of the install program.

    I have just installed a new hard drive in my imac intel 20" (2006) and upgraded the memory and now the hard drive does not show up in the 'select destinations' folder of the install program. I can see the hard drive in the disk utilities window however it wont let me do anything.
    It is a seagate 1TB SATA II drive however it is displaying it as a 7.3 TB.
    If anyone has any suggestions I would be happy to hear them.
    I have tried to erase and partition and get the same error message each time, 'Input/Output error'.
    I have tried starting the thing with the install disk which is Mac OS X (Tiger?) which came with the computer. No good.
    Anyone?

    Thats correct. I can see it in the list however when I attempt to erase it or partition it it's like it's not being found or recognised and it throws up the input/output error message. I am pretty sure that the sensor it attached correctly and it is a SATA drive. I can see all the infor regarding the drive when disk utility is open and it all looks good but I cant access it or do anything with it. It's taunting me!
    The install disk is in the drive and the install program runs right up to the point where you have to select the location for the install and there is just nothing in the box where you have to select the hard drive icon.
    I have my suspiscions about the drive but any help would be appreciated.

    Hi  Krishna,
    For your issue, you need to deploy a farm solution using HideCustomAction to hide site settings link. For example to hide “Title, description, and logo” link you can use below code:
    <Elements xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/sharepoint/">
    <HideCustomAction
    GroupId="Customization"
    HideActionId = "ProjectSettings"
    Location = "Microsoft.SharePoint.SiteSettings">
    </HideCustomAction>
    </Elements>

  • How to change the selection background color of the selected item in the popup menu of the choice box ?

    By defaut, the selection background color likes "blue", but if I want it to be "yellow" for example, how should I do ?
    Thanks

    The id is applied by (I think) the skin class of the ChoiceBox. You don't need to define it.
    You have to apply the css in an external style sheet. You can apply the external style sheet to any parent of your choice box, or to the scene (the most usual way to do it).
    Example:
    import java.util.ArrayList;
    import java.util.List;
    import javafx.application.Application;
    import javafx.scene.Scene;
    import javafx.scene.control.ChoiceBox;
    import javafx.scene.layout.VBox;
    import javafx.stage.Stage;
    public class ChoiceBoxTest extends Application {
      @Override
      public void start(Stage primaryStage) throws Exception {
        primaryStage.setTitle("Example 2");
        final ChoiceBox<String> choiceBox = new ChoiceBox<>();
        List<String> tempResult = new ArrayList<String>();
        for (int i = 0; i < 10; i++) {
          tempResult.add("Item " + i);
        choiceBox.getItems().setAll(tempResult);
        VBox root = new VBox();
        root.getChildren().add(choiceBox);
        final Scene scene = new Scene(root, 300, 250);
        scene.getStylesheets().add("choiceBox.css");
        primaryStage.setScene(scene);
        primaryStage.show();
      public static void main(String[] args) {
        launch(args);
    choiceBox.css:
    @CHARSET "UTF-8";
    #choice-box-menu-item:focused  {
    -fx-background-color: yellow ;
    #choice-box-menu-item .label {
    -fx-text-fill: black ;
