Try Cmd(Ctrl)-Shift-B which is the toggle for Show/Hide Bounding Box. Sounds like your problem.

Direct select tool in illustrator CC not working
I think i might of, at some point, hit a shortcut key by mistake that has rendered my direct select tool duff. But after a lot of search and going through options i can't figure out what's going on.
If i select the direct select tool (A), click on my expanded stroke split into dashed lines. Usually i'd be able to use direct select to target each dash, but instead now nothing gets select when i use my direct select. Nothing at all. It's bugging the hell outta me as it's effecting my workflow. Is this a bug, or an option that's been switched on/off?Doidge,
Is the Direct Selection Tool working normally for other tasks?
If it is, there must be something strange about the former dashes. You may have a closer look at them in the Layers palette.
If not, there may be preference corruption. You may press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during restart of Illy, or Move the folder (follow the link with that name); the latter is reversible. -
How do i show graphics that are moved off my document page so i can see the
i am moving graphics off my page onto the "background" so I can move them around and reuse them in my document.
How / where can i make them viewable as i work - right now they just disappear. I am in creative suite ID 3-
ThanksSounds like you're in preview mode which hides the pasteboard. With nothing selected, hit the w key.

I recently re-installed my CS4 and am trying to reacquaint myself with the various applications.
Where I was previously able to access the various tool options, i.e. under the Text Tool, Rectangle Tool, Pencil Tool, etc. they are not opening now.
Any suggestions out there as to what could be the problem?

Are you saying that they do not fly out when you ClickHold hovering over the main tools (that is the Illy way)?
If that be the case, you may start looking at the list, maybe going straight to 6).
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
1) Close down Illy and open again;
2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
Even more seriously, you may:
6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

Illustrator has not been responding for over a week, I can't open or force quit it. I've already uninstalled, reinstalled, and deleted the preferences folder, but the icon in my dock seems corrupt and is causing the program to not respond and I can't delete it.

Did you reinstall using the full three step way (otherwise strange things may linger)?
Uninstall (ticking the box to delete the preferences), run the Cleaner Tool, and reinstall.

It seems like Illustrator may not consistently be updating the embedded pdf file when re-saving, even if the embedded illustrator file does. We are seeing a number of issues which seem to suggest this is going on..... I have a file I might be able to share with adobe's developers to really look at this problem. In short this file does not have a client change when viewed in reader or output through Photoshop image processor to generate raster copies, yet when we open the file we see the client changes. I would expect this to be a huge issue..... I have told my team to perform a save-as from now on to avoid what I think is going on-it seems to work.....

Has Adobe improved the Graphs tool in Illustrator CS6?
Does anyone know whether there have been any improvements to the graphing tool in Illustrator CS6?
I had thought that perhaps Adobe would be adding a graphs function to Indesign, but there has been no word of it with the CS6 release. And nobody has mentioned graphs in their "new features" reviews of either InDesign nor Illustrator.
The graphing function in Illustrator really sucks - it's been the same since Illustrator 88. Have they totally abandoned those of us who have to create graphs again? Or have they improved it but it's just not cool enough for anyone to mention?I do a lot of reports - sometimes a 100 page report will have 40 or 50 graphs in it. I have to create over a thousand graphs every year. I have tried all the other products I can find and none of them create files that are really usable in a workflow where everything else is done in Adobe Creative Suite. I need to option click on a linked image of a graph in Indesign, open up an Illustrator file, and update the graph with new data from an Excel file. And I need the graph to look good.
Currently, the Illustrator graphing tool does not support live updating of the data very well at all and has severe limitations. Your data cannot have commas or percent signs or dollar signs. You cannot have numbers as categories (years, for example, as a category label all have to be typed in quotes). The graph labels cannot even have commas in them (you have to enter them manually after you plot it.) The entry dialog for the data is really primitive and hard to work with. And every time you update the graph data and replot the bars or lines, the tick marks are scattered all over the page and you lose your commas in the axis labels. Adobe really ought to be ashamed and embarrassed by how poorly this tool works, and I cannot understand how they can create tools like a perspective grid (which is cool, but I haven't needed it yet) and totally ignore such a basic productivity tool as the graphing feature.
I'm all for the cool stuff too . . . but you don't need live paint or live trace to do graphs if you can actually just import the numbers and do it right. But my graphs need to be accurate and based on plotted numbers, not hand-drawn. And so I have to come up with complicated workarounds and every time I update a graph I have to do all this stuff over again that should just be a one-click update.
If anyone out there is looking for a good business opportunity, build a graphing plugin for Indesign or Illustrator - I'll be happy to test it! -
Can Illustrator snap clipping groups to grid using the clipping path?
I want to be able to snap a clipping group to grid so that the clipping path snaps to the grid, not the masked paths. Is this possible?
Thanks for the replies, however neither is a solution to the problem. I want to make a seamless tessellation pattern using a clipping group as the unit of repetition. No matter what I try, Illustrator does not allow me to "over-ride" the anchor points of the clipping contents in order to snap the clipping path to grid. Of course it can be done manually, but if the clipping mask is an equilateral triangle, for example, and the pattern reflects on all sides of the triangle as it repeats, a manual construction is a hassle. And besides, the whole idea is to use snap-to-grid to guarantee a seamless tessellation.
The solution to the problem would be if Illustrator could treat a clipping path as a crop rather than a mask when snapping to grid. -

My computer got infected with some terrible virus. I contacted the manufacturer and they said the only thing to do was wipe the whole thing. I could not back it up bec this mess?ause it would include the infection. I have been trying to recover the lost music from several different places. A friend tried to help me by putting all of his music on my computer from his external hard drive. That was very nice of him but now it is a terrible mess. The recovered songs are not grouped into albums correctly. Some albums are mixed - every other song is from the other album. Some songs are listed separately and not grouped as an album. I tried to ask iTunes to find album art work and it has been running that for over 48 hours. Is that possible? When I try to stop it I get a message that says I will lose all the data. I admit that I am not very tech. savvy and I really don't know what I am doing. It took me more than 20 years to make that collection and I am heart broken. Unfortunately you've discovered too late how important it is to maintain an up-to-date backup of your iTunes library (and all other data of value). You could, before wiping the drive, have considered making use of a commercial data recovery service that could (albeit at considerable cost) have extracted your library from the hard disk, even if virus infected.
In the absence of that option, you will need to restore the content of your library from its original sources:
Depending on your location, you may be able to re-download any iTunes Store purchases that are still available on the Store
Likewise, most digital purchases from Amazon (including auto-rip copies of purchased CDs) should be available from the Amazon Cloud and via the Amazon Music application - the same may be true of other commercial sources for digital downloads

The specific situation that you describe regarding the music imported from your friend's external HDD suggests that either the source is badly organized and/or originates from a source other than iTunes (other media players may use alternative tags for information like artist, title, album, etc. that are not wholly consistent with how iTunes handle these). Without details of the issues you're seeing it is difficult to suggest a remedy other than going through the media album-by-album, track-by-track, and correcting the inconsistencies.

I have two albums (RCA Sweeny Todd 2 discs set and RCA Into the Woods 1 disc) where the songs are listed as being on the same album on the list view, but do not group together on the iPod, so the songs can't play consecutively, or in the proper order. The "Apply Sort Field" and "Same album does not work, but ti is only these two RCA albums that do this. All other albums remain intact. Need help with this minor problem. Thanks.
UPDATE: This behavior (to an extent) still happens when "Repeat Album" is off. Instead of an infinite loop, it goes through all the tracks on the album (unsuccessfully) and kicks me out to the Album overview screen. Going back to list of Albums and tapping the Album again brings up "No Content: You can download music from the iTunes Store" but that screen immediately kicks me back to list of Albums.
So I am just even more confused now. -
how do i get my photos to stream to my iPad in the events that were oringally created. Right now they are streaming as photos and are not grouped at all. I would like to get them back into the events that were originally created

My original I Phone 5 was running IOS 6.12
My I phone 5S currently runs IOS 8..When I upgraded it, it had IOS 7 on it which made the I Photo app compatible with everything below IOS 8...( which the photo app is not compatible with ) so I just connected the I Phone 5S to my computer and thinking the new phone had IOS 7 on it that these was nothing to worry about..I thought all 900 + pictures in the photo stream would transfer but somewhere in the process, I Tunes decides to just go and install IOS 8 which requires that you run a " Photo Migration App" to transfer photos from IOS 7 & below. The problem was is that I didn't want IOS 8 on my new 5S so I thought I wouldn't have to do that part..
Anyway the phone emerged with IOS 8 on it and the only photos that remained were the ones that were actually on the phone..The 900 + I had in the stream didn't transfer because the Photos that works on IOS 7 and below isn't compatible with IOS 8..I guess you have to use the photo migration app that comes with IOS 8 & I phone 6..But I didn't ask to upgrade to IOS 8...It just did it on it's own!
I still have the I Phone 5 Back up that I did just before giving it back to Verizon but if I try to restore the I Phone 5S running IOS 8 those photos in the stream will not go back on the phone because IOS 8 isn't compatible with the I Photos" that ran on IOS 7 and below..
So I have an I Pad mini that runs IOS 7..should I try and erase it...and put that I Phone 5 backup on it and pray the photos that were in the stream come back on it so I can transfer them back to my computer...then erase the I pad mini again and restore it using it's original backup that I have on the computer and the in the cloud?

I accidently clicked for a full screen view on Firefox and now I can't undo it. My bar with tools, bookmarks, etc. is not visible. As the browser opens, the bar appears but then jumps up where it can't be reached. How do I turn off the full screen without access to view options?

The strokes in Illustrator are not scaling properly
The strokes in Illustrator are not scaling properly when I type in a specific dimension even though I have the option selected to scale stroke & effects. It only works when I scale by percentage or do it by clicking and dragging manually. I now have version 18.0.0 and I used version 17 before without having this issue. What am I doing wrong?
The large image is the original, the one in the middle I scaled down by holding shift and dragging, the last one on the right hand side is scaled down by typing in a number in Transform in the W: box.
I want it to look like the middle, but I want to be able to type in a dimension without having to expand my strokes. It worked just fine in the previous version. -
Episodes from the same TV show are not grouped together

I've a cousin from the states staying with me who has no forum membership so this question is from her.
When viewing the iTunes TV Library on her MacBook, episodes from the same TV show [Journeyman] are not grouped together under the same album art even though the info on them is exactly the same except for the episode title.
While I'm here, will the Irish store ever get TV?
