The sender information of mail command

Hi there,
Our machine is running Solaris 9 and using NIS. I sshed in as a regular user A and "su -" to root user. I typed following command as root user "mail A test ctrl^d". I switched back to regular user A and checked the email of A. I found the email with the content "test" as expected but I found the sender of the email is A NOT the root. I am wondering why I issued the mail command as root but the sender is not root but user A?
Thanks in advance!

I guessing but probably because mail is using your real UID and not your effective UID. Take a look at the -r switch. You could also use the -f switch with sendmail.

  • Issues with the send to e-mail function in Adobe XI Pro

I have just upgraded from Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro to Adobe Acrobat XI Pro and have run into a very strange issue.  When on a web page with an embedded PDF document, I click the "Send to E-mail" icon and select "Send a Copy".  A new e-mail is created, but a file called "PDVView" is attached and not the intended PDF document.  This used to work just fine in Adobe Acrobat 9.  Any help is much appreciated!

You can select the text and using hyperlink option ,link that to your email.
If you have already done this but its not working, please provide the site url where you have inserted the email.
    Thanks,

  • I can't read a file with the ext PDF the sender informed me that the file was reset to PDF.

I can't read a file with the .ext PDF the sender informed me that the file was reset to PDF. But when I tried to open it the caption box informed me"the file is not in PDF format. I suspect the sender simply changed the file .ext which is why I can't open it! What can I do about it! I am working on an iPad.
    Thanks
    Mr Jim Lapthorn

If the document is not, in fact, a PDF, then you will need to get your sender to provide a PDF.
Can you open this document in any other application?

  • Can't use the "send by e-mail" button on forms created in Acrobat Pro 9 with Firefox

I created a form in Acrobat Pro 9.5.2 with a "send by e-mail" button as usual (not using LiveCycle Designer). Since a few months, users cannot send forms using that button USING FIREFOX works fine in Explorer. I've been creating and using those forms since 2 years whitout any problems but now this is A BIG PROBLEM for our office as all our reservation forms uses this technology.
    Steps to reproduce bug:
    1. create a form using Acrobat Pro. add an action button " send a form". send the Entire PDF form not just FDF. go in advance tool to give all rights to end-users (in French it's "étendre les fonctions d'adobe reader" I think it’s enable the usage rights for Reader ion English.)
2.publishing the form on my website (or send by e-mail to someone who use reader)
    3. filling the form
    Results:
when the user fill the form he can't send it by e-mail using the button. Nothing happens when hitting that button. It is not possible to save the document as well. Nothing can be done, not even printing or saving it. I've tried almost all browsers I know and nothing works.
    Expected results:
the form should be send by e-mail (as an attachment in general) like before. please help me! this is really important, our office have a lot of calls and we are just 2 people here (non-profit organization). should we buy Acrobat Pro X ?
I can send you the form, my e-mail is rgelinas at canadianclub-montreal dot ca
    thanks all!

When your customers opened the PDF form (which was as an email attachment) on iPads, it is highly likely that Apple Mail (not Adobe Reader for iOS) was displaying the preview of the PDF form.   Please note that Apple products on iPad/iPhone (e.g. Apple Mail, iBooks, Safari) do not render field contents or annotations (sticky notes, highlight, underline, strikeout, freehand drawing, etc.) in PDF documents.
The Mail sections of the following FAQ documents describe how to open PDF attachments in Adobe Reader for iOS.
For iPad, see How to get PDF documents into Adobe Reader for iOS (iPad on iOS 7 version)
For iPhone, see How to open PDF documents in Adobe Reader for iOS (iPhone on iOS 7 version)

  • How to find the sender information from a IDOC

    Hello Colleagues
I have a list of IDOCs which are transferred by by ALE and EDI methods, the customer idocs are using EDI and internal buyers use the ALE technology.
I have to write a report which tells me which was the originating system/ source of the order, so I wanted to know is there a way that I can find the origin system of the idoc message.
I had a look into EDIDC but the sender port here is a self pointing RFC for the edi messages, any idea how to get the origin system here ?, however the ALE messages gives the correct sender. But in future we are planning to have XI for internal transfer for idoc will that also have the same problem.
    Best regards
    Sujoy

    Hi ,
you can find receiver system details in partner profile , transaction we20.
    the sender system details are
port = SAP+your systemID(can be found in login system details)
EX if i am using ides server(testing server) having system id ESR then port = SAPESR
partner number u can get by following the path
sale...>basic settings...>logical system....> assign logical system to client.
here you can find the logical system which is nothing but your partner number for a particular client.
    Hope this  helps you.
    Thank you.

    Lokeswari.

  • Has anyone seen the Send Information to Apple?

I was Syncing my phone to put a movie on it and some pictures. When I plugged it in I got an alert box that stated that my iPhone had diagnostic information on it that would be helpful to Apple. It stated no personal information would be sent. Gave me option to send or refuse. As far as I know my phone is working perfectly, no problems I can see. Very interesting. I wonder if they will do this on a regular basis? I don't care but I can see that others might. As far as I'm concerned no software ever leaves beta testing, I am willing to help. Now how do I run a Citrix client so I can get into my work computer system?

Yes, several times in the past couple of days. The crash logs are similar in format to Mac OS X application crash logs and can be found in /Library/Logs/CrashReporter/MobileDevice/youriPhonename/.
So far I've had these files created and uploaded to Apple:
    ResetCounter.crash
    MobilePhone-2007-07-05-171713.crash
    MobileMail-2007-07-06-140211.crash
And a separate directory named "Baseband" with two log files:
    log-2007-07-08-02-38-50.txt.submitted
    log-2007-07-08-12-31-34.txt.submitted
My iPhone froze, requiring a hard reset holding the sleep/wake and home buttons for 10 seconds, today. The "ResetCounter.crash" file was created on the first sync after that freeze/reset.

    Hi,
How do your employees using their personal mailbox? If they access it via Outlook, please refer to the suggestions Maffiow provided. If they access it via IE, we could not prevent them attaching
file to their mailbox via Group Policy. As a workaround, you may prevent them accessing the third party mailbox webpage via Group Policy.
For details, please refer to the following article.

  • How to see the sender`s E-Mail?

Hi there! I can`t see people who avaluate my questionnaire, I just get their answers.
Where do I find the function to fix it?
    Thank`s a lot!

There is no built in functionality for this.  If you want to know who is submitting, you can add an email field to the form and mark it as required.

  • How can I remove a mailbox address from the "From" drop down box in a new e-mail my old e-mail address continue to populate as the sender address

How can I remove a mailbox address from the "From" drop down box in a new e-mail my old e-mail address continue to populate as the sender address

    Hello,
Try Mail>Preferences>Accounts icon>Account Information tab>Click on the Outgoing SMTP server drop down, choose edit Server list, highlight the old one & click Remove.
(Such convolution is worthy of Windows® in my estimation)

  • Exchange – Emails in sent folder have no sender information in header

    Hey Everybody,
when I send emails with my exchange account in mail.app the copy of the email that is stored in the sent folder is missing the sender information in its header. The "from" column is empty, however, it should say my name there.
Pretty annoying because I use smart folders to organize my mails that depend on the sender information in the header. The only workaround I found so far is using imap in mail.app instead of exchange – but that's not a really satisfying solution.
I only have this problem when using mail.app with exchange. When I use the outlook.com web interface to send emails they are shown correctly in the sent folder in mail.app. Same goes for sending mails via exchange from my iPhone. My MobileMe account also works perfectly in mail.app. For the receiver there is no problem either - my name is correclty displayed as the sender.
Is anybody else having that problem or knows or solution?

Open Apple Contacts and verify your contact as "My Card". Microsoft calls this card "This is me". It's not stored on Exchange but in the local Outlook Address Book. I don't use Exchange  so not sure if Apple will let you select your contact on Exchange contacts. You might need to select the local or iCloud contact.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11582
Once you set "My Card", check to see if the issue is fixed.
    If you still have issues.....
Let's eliminate issues in your User's folder by testing in a new User.
    CREATE A NEW USER
Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in Accounts. Switch to the New User by logging out/in or use Fast User Switching.
Add your Exchange account to Mail.
Do you still see the issue?
If yes, then the problem is with your base files.
If no, then the problem is in your User's folder.
Option to repair Mail in your User's folder:
Go to your User's Library folder. (if you don't know how to find, see this link.)
    Scroll to Mail folder.
Select the V2 > MailData folder.
Delete any files in MailData with envelope in the name. (should be 3)
You can test Mail after deleting envelope files. When you open Mail it will re-index your files.
    If you still have problems....
Go to Containers in the User's Library folder.
    Delete the com.apple.mail folder.
Go to Preferences in the User's Library folder.
If you find any com.apple.mail.plist files, delete these.
Log out under the Apple in the Menu bar
    Log in
    Open Mail.

  • Mail command question

    Hi,
i often use the mail command to send email from terminal.
Is it possible to change the default "From: " header?
If i use the mail command from root mails apper to come from System Administrator (root@localhost); i'd like to use a different name.
I know that when in interactive mode i can simply wrote to mail prompt the header i want (From: whatiwant@whatilike) in this case... but i need to do this via script (not interactive) executed by cron
Is it possible to do this?
    I actually use this command:
    cat /var/log/secure.log | mail -s "Report on `date '+%m/%d/%y% - %H:%M:%S'`" mymailaddress@hostname
    Thanks in advance

If you look into the man page of mail command, you will see that it accepts sendmail-options. Then man page of sendmail command shows that "-r sender" is the option to set the "envelope sender address".
Did you try "mail -r sender" but it didn't satisfy you?
I guess it also sets the "From:" header, but if you want set the "From:" alone, then you may try:
    <pre>
    echo "Subject: Report on `date '+%m/%d/%y - %H:%M:%S'`
    From: whatyoulike@whatyoulike
    " |
    cat - /var/log/secure.log |
    /usr/sbin/sendmail -i yourmailaddress@hostname</pre>

  • AppleScript to Send Again E-Mail Message in Sent Folder

For reasons more complicated than interesting, I want to use Send Again to reply to incoming e-mails that meet certain specific conditions. I've figured out how to extract the sender's e-mail address from the message, but I can't figure out how to select a previously sent message and resend it to the new recipient. I'd really appreciate any help. Thanks.

Here's what I've got so far:
    tell application "Mail"
    set theMessage to selection
set the thisMessage to item 1 of the theMessage
set theSender to sender of the thisMessage
set theAddress to extract address from theSender
set sendAgain to 1st message of sent mailbox whose id is 343445
-- Need to tell Mail to Send Again the message sendAgain
set sender of (message sendAgain) to theAddress
    -- Need to send message
    end tell
I get the error on the last line: "Mail got an error: Can’t set message (message id 343445 of mailbox "[Gmail]/Sent Mail" of account "User Name") to "[email protected]".
