The serial number has aleady been activated on 2 computers

When I start Illustrator I get an error 'Activation limit reached for Adobe Creative Suite 5 Design Standard', 'The serial number has already been activated on 2 computers'.
The computers it was previously on have been wiped clean so I cant deactivate it on them. The help docs say this:
What happens if my computer is stolen or damaged and cannot be repaired?
If your computer is stolen, damaged beyond repair or the hard drive is completely re-imaged, the activation will be lost. In either case you can install and start using the Adobe product on your new computer, which will automatically detect the problem if you already had two computers activated. The activation process will guide you through the new activation, even if the prior computer is no longer available.
However the activation process isn't guiding me at all! I cant use this software now and nothing in the docs gives any indication how to fix this.

Just call up tech support. Have proof that you are the legitimate owner handy, and they will invalidate the other serial activations. Not need to track people down yourself. And no, you can't do that anyway.
Did you buy your copy from a legitimate source, or from eBay?

The same thing happened to me. You have to call Apple Care and have them manually enter a new request.

The message is correct. You can only register a product once... there is no need to register again after you do it the first time. You can re-install and activate with the serial number, but there is no need to re-register.

Hi, everyone. When I try registering my laptop's warranty it says "*Your product's serial number has already been registered*". I am sure i never registered my laptops warranty because I didn't remember the purchase date. When I found out the correct date, I registered. To my surprise it didn't work. The serial number has letters and the acrobat will not take it.

I downloaded the student and teach acrobat to my computer. I have the serial number but it has lettersin the beginning. The licensing of acrobat will not accept letters, so there is something wrong here. Thoughts?

I can't imagine why you think they would (or should). In trying to save money, you bought a deeply discounted copy of the software, which turned out be a pirated (stolen) copy. Why would you think that having possession of a stolen copy would entitle you to any discount on the real thing?
