The sims 2 expansion packs?

i have the sims 2 and 9 of the expansion packs, i got mac os x snow leopard version 10.6.3 because it said on the boxes that i need version 10.3.9 or later, the sims 2 works on its own, and still works when i add pets to the game but it won't work if i add anything else, please help

First off, is it osx app or just windows. Second, if it is osx is it Universal binary or just ppc, or just intel. If it is just intel, you are fine. If it is ppc, then i would recommend picking up a windows os, and installing it in bootcamp. I have been running a few games in bootcamp and they all run great. I do not have the Santa Rosa MBP, i have the older 2.33 2gb ram, but this laptop runs multiple games at full graphics mode. You shouldnt have any problems running or installing the game.

  • The Sims 2 crashes after installing Nightlife or Pets Expansion Packs

I'm at the end of my rope, so I thought I would see if anybody out there can help me. I'm posting this on a few boards.
I've been a huge fan of the Sims ever since the first game was released. I got my first Mac a year ago, and The Sims 2 for it for Christmas. I put off purchasing any expansion packs - I had enough fun with the base game and downloaded custom content that I did not feel justified in spending the money. Then they made Pets, and I was sorely tempted. After playing with that expansion on my sister's new Windows Vista laptop, I decided that I would get it for my Mac for my birthday in July.
After I installed the expansion pack, my game would crash during the blue startup screen. I removed custom content, reinstalled the game, and tried everything else the Aspyr tech support could think of - including sending my disc back for a replacement copy.
I've included all of our correspondence below. Maybe someone out there has had a similar problem, or can think of what could be causing this issue.
Today I tried installing the Nightlife expansion pack, and was met with the EXACT same issue. Obviously there is something wrong with my Mac or the base game, or some bit of software or code on my system is screwing things up. . .
I'd really hate to sell the expansions online and then fork over the money for a copy of Windows and the PC version of Pets (I already own the base game). I'd hate to devolve back into a Windows user =+\
7/31 I sent a message to Aspyr Support through their website:
I just installed the Pets expansion on top of the Sims 2 base game. Now it crashes before the start-up screen has finished loading. I tried removing the downloads folder and the neighborhoods folder, in case something in there was not compatible. The game still crashes.

    Greetings,
I'd recommend downloading the latest version of Quicktime from apple.com as well as our Pets patch via support.aspyr.com and see if that solves the issue. If not:
This error can occur for a number of reasons; Multiple installations of the game, unnecessary patching of the game, moving game files around after installing, installing the game to your desktop, or corruption of game files. Unfortunately a clean install is the only way to resolve this issue.
I recommend the following troubleshooting steps. Try running the Repair Disk Permissions function of the Disk Utility located in Applications/Utilities. Also, avoid installing the game to Applications or the Desktop; there are permissions conflicts that can arise when games are installed here. Games work best when they are installed in a separate games folder on the top/root level of your hard drive.
Reinstalling gets rid of any game data that may have become corrupt. Be sure to trash the game's preferences file(s) (com.aspyr."Sims2".plist) located in the Home/Library/Preferences folder. Common game file locations are Home/Library/Preferences and Home/Library/Application Support and Home/Documents when you do so. Then just trash the current copy of the game and install a new copy to the new games folder at the root of your hard drive. I'd also recommend doing a Spotlight search of your computer to make sure you've removed the game files / folders before reinstalling.
You can usually find specific removal instructions via the readme file located in the main game folder to use as a guideline for installing the game.
    (From the Sims2 readme file)
To uninstall The Sims 2 and The Sims 2 Body Shop, drag the following to the trash:
"The Sims 2" folder which contains the game and The Sims 2 Body Shop applications
    "home folder\Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2" folder
    "home folder\Library\Preferences\com.aspyr.TheSims2.plist" file
    "home folder\Library\Preferences\com.aspyr.TheSims2BodyShop.plist" file
    "home folder\Library\Preferences\com.aspyr.TheSims2PackageInstaller.plist" file
If you have Sims 2 expansions you should run the game once by launching it from the hard drive before installing any expansions. This will create a new set of preference files and allow the installers for the expansions to properly install the software.
    I hope this helps.

Thank you for your quick response. Sadly, the game still does not work. I tried all of your advice, then decided to make sure I had done everything I could possibly think of.
First, I moved my saved games (and downloads, user data, etc) to a folder on the desktop, so I could retrieve them later.
I ran the Repair Disk Permissions function.
I had the latest version of Quicktime, but I reinstalled it anyway. I also downloaded all available system updates.
I erased all of my remaining Sims data, including the preference files.
I rebooted. (not sure if this does much, but I know my old PCs worked better with reboots)
I installed the Sims 2 in a newly-created Games folder on the HD. I also installed the patch for the base game.
I played the game; it functioned properly.
I rebooted again and installed the Pets expansion and the patch.
It is behaving the same way as before - the game quits unexpectedly when the startup screen gets to "calibrating canine customization."
Oh, and I did not moved my saved data back into the game folders - I tried running it clean, first.
Is there anything else I can try? Or do I just give up and sell my expansion pack on eBay?

    Hello,
Here are specific instructions for fixing the problems with Sims 2 Pets.
    1. Start by removing any Sims DVDs from the drive
    2. Drag The Sims 2 application folder from your Hard Drive to the trash
    3. Drag The EA Games folder from the Documents folder to the trash
    4. Drag the EA Games folder from the Users/Shared folder to the trash
    5. Go to Home/Library/Preferences and drag to the trash the following files com.aspyr.thesims2.plist, com.aspyr.thesims2bodyshop.plist, com.aspyr.packageinstaller.plist (you might not have all of these files)
    6. Empty the Trash
    7. Do a search of the computer for The Sims 2 as well as EA Games and trash all Sims 2 files (remember to empty the Trash)
    8. Launch the program called Disk Utility from the Application\Utilities folders
    9. Select your main Hard Drive and run Repair Disk Permissions (this will insure your Mac is running at its best)
    10. When this is done close all windows
    11. Insert The Sims 2 DVD
12.Open the Sims 2 DVD and drag The Sims 2 folder to your Macintosh HD
    13. This will take some time to copy over
    14. When the files have finished copying open the HD and the Sims 15. folder and launch The Sims 2 Application
    16.. close down the game
(17-20 only apply if you have University)
    17. Insert the next expansion DVD University
    18. Run the Expansion installer
    19. launch the game
    20. close the game
(21-24 only apply if you have Nightlife)
    21. Insert the next expansion DVD Nightlife
    22. Run the Expansion installer
    23. launch the game
    24. close the game
(25-28 only apply if you have Open for Business)
    25. Insert the next expansion DVD Open for Business
    26. Run the Expansion installer
    27. launch the game
    28. close the game
(29-36 only apply if you have Pets)
    29. Insert the Pets DVD
    30. Run the Pets installer
    31. Launch the game
    32. Close the game
    33. Download The Sims 2 Pets 1.6 Rev A patch
    http://support.aspyr.com/index.php?x=&mod_id=2&root=201&id=438
    34. Run the Pets Patch Installer
    35. Launch the game
Everything should be up and running properly at this point. Thank you for playing The Sims 2.

    Hello again,
I greatly appreciate how quickly you responded once more, but frustratingly the game is still not working. I burned my saved game info to a DVD so that I could erase every single Sim-related file on my system. I followed steps 1-16 exactly , then skipped to 29. But once I launched the game with Pets, the exact same problem occurred - it (un)expectedly closed when the startup screen got to "Calibrating Canine Customization."
I don't know what could possibly be going wrong, and it's very disappointing. Please let me know if there is anything else I should try.

    Hello,
I am sorry you are still having problems with The Sims 2. In most cases checking to make sure you have all the latest Apple updates and a fresh install will fix this problem.
Here are a few things to check for:
    1. Make sure the game is installed on the boot volume, the main hard drive.
    2. Don't put the game in your Applications folder. There are permissions conflicts that can arise when games are installed here. Install the game to the root level of your drive instead.
    3. Run the permissions repair. To do this, launch the Disk Utility located in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder. The second tab will allow you to repair permissions.
    4. Remove the game completely (search for all game files) and run the install again, and choose the Macintosh HD as the destination for the install. When you launch the game, leave all in-game graphics settings at the defaults. Then reinstall the patch.
Here's something else you can try. Uninstall the game again, move ALL files related to game to the trash and empty it. Do a search on your entire computer to make sure that you got everything. Disconnect any peripherals from your computer except for the keyboard and mouse, create a New User account, reboot the computer and log into the new user account. Then reinstall the game. Choose your Macintosh HD as the destination to install to, and after initially launching the game, leave all in-game graphics/resolution settings at the defaults.

    Sorry, it's me again.
I've done everything you suggested in this and the other e-mails, to no avail.
    -my system is fully updated.
-ALL Sims 2 files trashed and emptied.
    -Permissions repair run.
    -peripherals unplugged.
    -New user created.
-Rebooted and logged in as new user.
    -Installed directly to HD.
    -Launched + closed game.
    -Installed Pets Exp.
-Launched - failed. It crashed at the very same point during startup.
-downloaded and installed patch; still failed.
I'm ready to restore my base game saved files from their DVD and sell the expansion pack on eBay.

There is one last thing to try and that is to assume there is something wrong with the Pets DVD. We offer a disc replacement service for $10 or, if you have purchased the disc in the last 90 days, it is free.
    8/16/07
I received my replacement disc today, and quickly installed it after backing up my files. The game still crashes at the same point during startup. Is it time to give up?
    8/16/07
    Hello,
I am very sorry the Pets expansion has not worked for you. I have never run into a situation where nothing will fix the problem. In all cases with the Sims 2 or expansions a disc replacement fixes the problem. I would guess that there is some obscure Apple issue causing the Pets to crash.
    Have a nice day,

I finally got the solution from a friend at the TSR forum. It was a problem with QUicktime 7.2. I needed to install this update:

  • The Sims 3

The first two (Sims 3, and World Adventures) work fine on my MacBook Pro, but the latest expansion pack (Ambitions), seems to randomly freeze at some points. My graphics/memory/everything are all up to spec with what the game requires. Does/has anyone else had this issue?

Yep. You're not the only one. Ever since the latest patch I've been having graphics problems. We're not alone, a quick look at the TS3 Mac Forum shows loads of us having the same issues. All requests to EA for any help has fallen on deaf ears - they will only blame our hardware. I have contacted Customer Support so will post back if they come up with anything relevant.

  • Expansion pack from GB included in Logic 8?

Does anyone know if the $49 expansion pack insturments for Garage Band are included in the New Logic Studio? I was considering making the jump up to Studio from GB soon (after reading some more reviews) but thought I might get the expansion pack just to have some better/different insturments to use in the meantime. Would that be a waste of $50 because those insturments are included in Logic or are they different?

lwilliam is correct. It is the first five: the original (now discontinued) Jam Pack, then the subsequent four Jam Packs: Symphony, Rhythm, Remix, and World.
I have no idea why the Vocal Jam Pack isn't included, maybe it was created/released after the packaging and disks were already being printed? Who knows.
And they are $100 US a piece, so if you were to buy all five, that would be the same price as Logic Studio, so in essence you are getting the applications for free.

  • AMG Expansion Pack

Who has some experience with the AMG Expansion Pack for GB? It offers 92 new instruments and comes for just unter 40 €, which sounds reasonable. I doubt that I'll ever need bagpipes, but it comes with several Rhodes and Hammond sounds.

If the pipe sounds are any good then I want it! (Preferably Northumbrian small pipes or uillean pipes rather than the raucous highland variety). Anyone heard the bagpipe based electronica of Martyn Bennett or the Peatbog Faeries?

  • Can "Sims 3" and its' expansions pack be played on the Macbook Pro w/ Retina Display?

I am thinking about purcashing the new Macbook Pro w/ Retina Display. I would like to know if  "Sims 3" and its' expansions packs are playable on this mac with the assistance of an Apple USB Superdrive.

Yes, The Sims 3 and all its expansions are perfectly playable on the MacBook Pro with Retina display (though I don't recommend installing it using Remote Disc as it will take a couple of hours at best to completely install everything).
Playing it at 2880 x 1800 makes everything look great... except for the incredibly small UI elements. The game looks slightly fuzzy at 1440 x 900, which is to be expected given how Apple handles scaling with the Retina display. If you can't live with the fuzziness, you'll have to find a happy medium between 1440 x 900 and 2880 x 1800. And hey, if you decide you can play it at 2880 x 1800, more power to you!

  • The Sims 2 Expansion Packs and iMac Intels

    Hi everyone.
I have The Sims 2, University, Pets and Open for Business and I have a question. I have downloaded the patches from Aspyr so I'm no longer getting the dreaded PowerPC question at the beginning... however, when I played the Sims on my PC, I think that it always used the original Sims disc to play, not the expansion discs. Does anyone know why my Mac is asking me to put in the University disc when I assume it should be asking me to put in the original Sims 2 disc? I thought that the expansions were just upgrades and that the game always required the original disc to be in the drive to play? Can anyone advise on this? How does it work if I want to swap between Pets and Open for Business for example? Do I have to have each disc in to play? Any help appreciated.
    Thanks
    Tracy

    Three possible causes:
    - You got charged twice. On a computer go to iTunes Store>View Account>Purchase History and see what you got charged for
    - Maybe the difference is due to tax. Again the Purchase History will list the total price including tax for each purchase.
    - You had a negative balance (you owed money) before you redeemed the card.

  • The Sims 2 Holiday Pack digital download?

Not sure where to post this, but I'm wondering where I can purchase the Sims 2 Holiday Pack for Mac online, and have it available as a digital download?

  • What can i do to make the sims 3 starters pack work on my macbook pro?

The sims 3 won't even pop up on my mac. it says on the box that it is MAC compatible. Does that mean anything? the sims 3 starter pack seems to be working on my brothers samsung laptop. why not my Mac?

Mac/Windows compatible CDs if they predate 2006 won't work with Mac OS X 10.7 or later unless you run Windows on your Mac, or run 10.6 in virtualization because old PowerPC Mac software are only supported through Mac OS X 10.6.8 with the software in 10.6 called Rosetta.  Some of that software may not work if there are very particular PowerPC drivers that need addressing.
The Full Sims 3 is available for Intel Macs, according to these system requirements.  I would contact them to determine if they have tested it in 10.7 or later, as they may be trying to access older code from PowerPC Macs that wasn't completely eliminated in 10.5.7, the minimum system they say it will run on.  Be sure to find your GPU in the System Profiler and see if it meets those specs.  Maybe you just need to patch the Sims package.
P.S. Some Windows users and developers aren't aware that Mac is the nickname for Macintosh, and MAC is the acronym for Media Access Control the hexadecimal code identifying certain network devices.

  • Is there a way to get The Sims 3 to work normally?

I downloaded The Sims 3 from my pc on to my iMac last July and it worked normally until I downloaded The Sims 3 Seasons, now it crashes and freezes. I emailed EA and they told me to uninstall all of the expansion packs and the base game, which didn't work. I posted it online and people only said that EA doesn't make their games well enough to function correctly on Mac computers, and they don't care enough to get it to function well enough for Macs. I'm just looking for a certain app or having to do something specific in order to get it to fully function without crashing or freezing.

I have the same problem though its not the expansions. Its the patch update to 1.55 that makes the game crash on a mac. I have talked to the developer and they are gonna email the game stuido to find the problem. I could let you know what they say. Otherwise I would just wait until the next patch update cause alot of people are having this problem if you go the the sims forums for mac support.

  • I am trying to load "The Sims" for OS X 10.1 and higher;  first time the game would lock up after the preview, now I can't even get the installer to load after sending the original installation to the trash.  What could I be doing wrong??

I have "The Sims" suite (The Sims, Livin Large, House Party, Hot Date, and Unleashed). During the original installation, I could not get teh third disk to install (House Party).  I definitely installed them in the correct order.  Then, I went on to load the last two CDs, but when I install the last CD, to begin play, the game locks my system downafter the preview.
I sent the entire Application to the trash (I'm assuming installing this in the Applications section of teh HD is correct), and tried to re-install.  Now, the initial Installer on The Sims primary CD will not respond.  I have to force quit to unlock the install.
I have an iMac with the 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, with 4 GB Memory (4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3).
Can you tell me if I'm doing something wrong, or if my system does not have enough memory to handle this program?  I already have The Sims 2 and 3 with several expansion packs installed - never had a problem operating or installing them. I still have at least 50% of my internal memory available.
    Thanks,
    Joe

For some reason SpeedGrade updated through the Application manager. I tried downloading the updates from adobe's website but it won't install. Prelude's update fails before it can even get started whereas the extension manager does install but it doesn't seem to be updating.
I've done as much investigation as I can think of and I'd rather not create a new user just to check that out but if I have to I will. How exactly do I create a new user on a mac?

    yep, they answer...
At the moment The Sims 2 and all of the expansion packs are not
supported on Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. We will be working diligently with
Apple to get these issues resolved if possible. Please keep in mind that
there are some things that can only be fixed by Apple, and we will be in
direct contact with them to fix the issues that can be fixed. Please
feel free to let us know of any problems you are having relating to our
games and their ability to operate in Leopard. It will take some time
for us working with the new OS and our customers to identify issues and
make the necessary patches as needed.
    Have a nice day,

  • The Sims 3 [Island Paradise] - Game Doesn't Even Start (Please HELP)

I recently re-installed the Sims 3 and 3 expansion packs with it (Pets, Seasons & Island Paradise) on my new computer (MacBook Pro 13' - 2012). I downloaded so many stuff from thesimsresource.com page but the game didn't show up any problem (picture 1). I came back from school and I wanted to play but since I pressed the Play button, that's what happened (picture 2). I started my computer again and again, pressed the play button again, so many times but it still shows that stupid black screen and I can't play   That actually happened to me, previous times but after pressing the play button so many times, it loaded normally and I could actually play the game. CAN ANYONE HELP ME? Please? I'm gonna keep trying but can I avoid this? It's annoying and tiring.

    It is a classpath problem.
Either check if your jaxp jars are in the classpath or upgrade to jdk
    1.4
    Thanks,
    Bhakti

  • The Sims 2 application crashing.

Has anyone been able to run The Sims 2 on a MDD with a GeForce4 Ti 4600 under 10.4.11? I can run the tutorial for a few minutes before getting an application crash. Excerpt from the crash reporter log:

First time trying to run The Sims 2 on this newly acquired MDD.

I looked in the ASPYR support and found the correct installation order for the game and expansion packs that I have here:
    http://support.aspyr.com/index.php?x=&mod_id=2&root=8&id=552
I still get the same crashes during the tutorial, normal game play works for a little while longer, although there is some occasional flickering of the graphics to a plain green screen every now and then. What seems to crash most of the time is doing a rotation of the 3D view, but that's kind of random, I can't reliably predict what will make it crash.
I guess I'll consider a new video card for my MDD, lots of good discussions in the archives here. As I am learning, VRAM is not the only important feature to consider. I hope I could find one that still has 3D support in OS 9, as well as 10.4.
I'm not sure how well Sims 2 would run, if at all, on my (black) MacBook with GMA950. Time to get a new iMac, those new models look great.
