The Sims for macs?

This is random, but does anyone know how to download (free) The Sims for macs? I know you can easily download it for PCs on limewire, but I couldn't find it for macs. Has anybody done this?
Thanks!!

Well, if that's the question, then the answer appears to be that there is no demo for Mac presently available. The foregoing seems to be confirmed by the fact that when I looked on the Apple/Games Demo site, I couldn't find it there.

Has anybody got the sims for the imac? I came across the sims on ebay and didnt realise they did them for the mac as well. Can anyone tell me a) how good it is (I had the pc version) and b) does it slow your computer down? Im a bit dubious when adding software to new computers!!

I had a lot of trouble with SimCity4 on my iMac. It became such a headache that I returned it to compUSA. It ran very choppy and crashed repeatedly when the city began to develop. My system FAR exceeds the system requirements for the game, and after some online research I discovered that I am not the only person to have this trouble with SimCity running on 10.4. I have also read problems concerning the SIMS2. Some of what I have read indicates that 10.3 runs the games fine, but 10.4 causes them to crash. I don't know if this is the case, but I do know that I am now very weary before dropping $50 on a game that may not perform on my computer as it claims to on the box. Some people trying to run games are talking about waiting for Mac OS updates that will allow them to run smoother.

  • The Sims on Mac Mini

Ok, here's the situation. I appreciate any help/info:
I have a Mac Mini. We get along great and are friends. Huzzah! I have plenty of space and the machine works great!
I want to get The Sims. NOT The Sims 2, but the original, The Sims. I got to amazon.com to order The Sims for my Mac. Half of the customer reviews on Amazon said that installing The Sims on their computer was a bad idea and it didn't work.
    Link as evidence: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002RCYZA/ref=pdrvi_gw1/103-6913717-4829406?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=468642
But these appear to be kids reviewing it, so how much faith do I put in this?
So, I lay it before you, the readers, posters, and helpers who are much wiser than myself. Should I buy The Sims for my mac, or am I cursed to be forever Simless?

I installed The Sims 1 on someone's Mac the other day. The Installer looked like a Mac OS 9 installer, although the box featured a Finder icon. I couldn't find another installer, although I was in a hurry and barely had the time to look for one. I was able to try the game, which ran smoothly (iBook 1.25 Ghz, 512 MB RAM, Radeon 9200 & 32 MB VRAM), but I couldn't determine whether it was running in Classic or in OS X (being very unfamiliar with Classic, which I don't use at all, I didn't know what to look for).
I'll have to checxk more carefully when I next see this iBook (don't wait for me to post back before making your decision though; otherwise you could very well be Simless for several months).

We have developed a desktop application using Flash software and published the same for MAC environment. When we double click on the index.app file, the application is working perfectly in Mac 10.6.7 at our office. But if the same index.app file is double clicked in Mac 10.6.7 at out clients location, its not opening. For your information the client is able to open this same application by double clicking on index.swf file. The main problem is that client is not able to open the application using index.app file at their office whereas we are able to do so at our office. Can anyone give some suggestions to sort this problem?

The most common reason is different versions of Flash, or different versions of web browsers used.  Some users may elect to not have Flash installed at all because of the processor overhead of Flash.  If you are going to make an application for a client, check what operating system and browser versions they are using first.  Then determine if a stand alone application is required, or if they have the necessary plugins to run specific browser enhanced code.
P.S. MAC is an acronym for Media Access Control.  Mac is the shorthand for Macintosh, the operating system and computers made by Apple Inc.

  • Which KVM switch is the best for Mac Mini

Base on individual experience, which KVM switch is the best for Mac Mini

Hot-Key mode MacMini and IO Gear KVM Switch MiniView Micro USB Plus
    Fusionwolf, can you help me?
I want to use my TFT monitor (HPvs19 ) with a MacMini and a Casablanca KRON PC. The monitor works good with both computers, when connecting them separately.
I've bought a KVM switch MiniView Micro USB Plus (IOGear GCS632U) connected it as written in the IOGear Installation Manual. Now I can use the monitor with my MacMini and my Mac keyboard, but I cannot switch to the PC.
In the IO Gear manual several methods to switch ports are written. But every method starts by invoking HotKey mode.
    The manual reads :
"To invoke HotKey mode, do the following:
    1. Press and hold down the NumLock key
    2. Press and release the minus- key
    3. Release the NumLock key"
    and
"When HotKey mode is active, the Caps Lock, and Scroll Lock LEDs flash in succession to indicate that Hotkey mode is in effect."
I've tried many times to do this pressing/releasing on my Mac keyboard. Within different time/speeds. But with no result... I CANNOT get in the HotKey mode...
What can I do? Are there other ways to get in HotKey mode with my Mac keyboard (bought with my previous iMac some 4 years ago)? Or are there other ways of switching with the IO Gear KVM Switch?
Thanks a lot in advance for an answer!

And question is STILL not answered.  WHICH is to be downloaded and used?
    I would like an answer.

Thank you for the clarification!  It is really kinda circle-speaking to state on an information page to put forth info people need in that manner.  It really does add to the confusion and frustration when you need a simple,
straight answer, such as you gave, and you dont get one.  Kind of like that . . other... software company....
This rabbit hole still continues, though.  I'm going to ladder it out, just to see for myself:
    Have: MacBookPro / 2.4 GHz/ Intel Core i5/ running OS X 10.6.3 -
    Need: latest version of Java, so Flash update can be loaded;
(want html5 to be the standard so badly, but client wants Flash)
Attempted:  Tried to find Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 2 on Apple website.  No Joy.
            Found:   Update 2 is proper update for Mac OS X 10.6.3.  Could not find download on Apple website;
                           - No Joy.
Attempted:  Tried to find Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 8. Half Joy. Confusing, no straight info.
Found:   In order to install update for Java, must update OS X from present 10.6.3 to 10.6.8
Attempted:   Tried to find update to OS X 10.6.3 to 10.6.8. on Apple website.
how far does the rabbit hole go?

CS5 for Windows can only be installed on Windows operating system.
You would need to purchase CS5 for Mac OS.
Given that CS5 is now 4 versions back, it's unlikely you'll find a copy.
You could get DW CC from the Creative Cloud which supports both Win/Mac platforms.

  • External Harddrives - Manufacturers using the words 'for Mac'?

    Hi,
I've learnt about the difference between PC and Mac HDD formats, and was about to buy an external HDD when something got me questioning my knowledge. I see that some manufacturers use the words 'for Mac' in their product name. And that the models with 'for Mac' in the name are about 20% more expensive than the same model name without the 'for Mac' wording. Eg
    http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=700
    http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=719
The manufacturer specs don't seem to explain anything, so I wanted to ask here: are these products exactly the same, except that the 'for Mac' version comes pre-formatted in HFS Plus?
Can I just buy the standard model, and then do the formatting myself with Disc Utility?
I questioned my knowledge, because it seems daft that a manufacturer can charge 20% more just for pre-formatting the disc in the correct format. Is there anything special about the 'for Mac' models?
Are there any other considerations I need to make? Is there anything special I need for the disc to work with Time Machine?
    Thanks,
    Yeti

    Hi Yeti
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You can reset the Partitions Scheme and Format of most all off the shelf External HD's. I have several that came MS-DOS/FAT-32 that I have changed to GUID Partition Table/Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    See > http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/partitioningtiger.html
Some manufactures include partitions with windoz backup programs that should be eliminated, as they are of no use to you anyway.
Time Machine will format the drive to it's own liking, however I always reset the Partition Scheme and Format to make sure it is properly cleaned and setup.
    See: Time Machine 101 > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1427
and Time Machine -- Frequently Asked Questions > http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1964018
Lastly you might want to consider a desktop drive over a portable for Time Machine, Time Machine need lots of room and you can get more GB for your money.

  • Screen refresh after the "Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 16"

Hi, can anyone help.. aside from going back to backup pre update 16, on tuesday installed updated the "Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 16" (from 15) and now Vassal (from vassal.org), using the newly installed JAVA SE 1.6.0_51, has some kind of bug stopping screen refresh and some GUI elements not being displayed in the app.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem ? Do we know if this is a known issue ? And if so, do we have any news about a fix ? and if so, from who ?
    many thanks, Ricky

  • Any one can show me where to find the JRE for MAC?

I am trying to develop an application to run on PC and MAC. For PC, I can easily get the JRE to run it. But for MAC, what can I found is only MRJ 2.2.5. If I not wrong, I found that I can only run the applet(unable to support the SWING) but not the application. Anyone know where can I get the JRE for MAC which can run the application (same as the JRE1.3 for PC )
There are a few MAC which has different OS. All of these MAC are too old to upgrade with latest OS so I cannot have the latest JAVA 2 technology support which is integrated in the latest OS. The MAC are running with OS 7 and OS 9 so anyone can tell me where to get the JRE that able to run the application that develop by using the JAVA 2?

    You probably already looked at
    http://devworld.apple.com/java/classic.html
It doesn't look like they have one for Java 2 unless youupgrade to Mac OS X.
