The "slide to unlock" on my elderly touch ipod no longer works.

The "slide to unlock" touch slider on my elderly touch ipod no longer works. My finger can move it three-quarters of the way then it pops back to the left. With struggle, I can sometimes combine the on screen slider moved as far to the right as I can get it then tap the hardware button on the bottom. I just have to keep trying over and over. An arrow appears at the top of the ipod that, when tapped, leads into the most recent song I was listening to before I turned it off. Just removing the earphones turns it off. Otherwise, I would just leave it on. The ipod works just fine once I get past that slider bar at the start. Help!

Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: How to back up
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

You will need to Restore it as a New Device...
Restore...
1: Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
2: If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane.
3: If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try using the steps in this article to force the device into recovery mode.

• IPod Touch Gen 2 turns on but the slide to unlock does not slide

Hello all,
Yesterday morning my iPod Touch was fine. Yesterday evening it would turn on, but I could not make the slide to unlock bar slide over. There is a specific point where it looks like it will go, but it stops and slides back to the far left. I have tried restoring it, but it still won't slide. It is updated to the new OS and has been working for several weeks before this happened. It still connects to iTunes and it charges just fine. I do have the 'grey app icons' issue, but after reading several posts, it doesn't seem related. It was extremely cold yesterday. Could I have inadvertently broke something? There are no cracks or obvious differences other than I can't make the bar slide over.
Thanks for looking this over.

I did all that you have listed here and I still cannot make the slide to unlock bar move. And when I press and hold the on/off sleep/wake button and the home button at the same time I get another slide bar at the top that I cannot move and a cancel button at the bottom that works at only one spot on the button. It is as if the screen is registering my touch at one vertical line on the whole screen.

In your first post you mention you have done a reset and a restore. Those are the last two processes in the user troubleshooting. If those do not work, then the last thing is to go to the Genius Bar. You say you went to Apple and they opened the phone and re-seated the connectors? That sounds unusual, because if there was a hardware issue, they would replace the hardware. You say you cannot get a replacement, is that because you are out of warranty? An out of warranty replacement is only $199 plus tax. It seems to me since you mention the fact you need to press hard to get the screen to react there is something going on with the hardware. If this problem has been going on for over a year, have you been reporting this to Apple. You say you cannot get a replacement and you are on the second phone, I wonder why they are denying you a replacement. Is there something you are not telling us??

If not successful try the remaining items of
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

I'm trying to use the slide to unlock bar but the iPad 3 touch screen is non responsive. How can I fix this!

I tried that step but it would not work. I think I may have changed a setting.
I was able to highlight a function but had to tap 3 times to get it to respond
to the command. I think it's some type of Restriction or Accessibility settings.
Any suggestions?

Dear iTunes,
So my iPod touch 4th generation 16 gigs. has about 5 long cracks along the screen and I guess whenever I try to log into it, I cant.. I cant slide the "slide to unlock" thing. It will just there. Then when I finally got it to open up and I had to type my password in, it wouldnt let me. It would just type the wrong numbers in. Well Its getting really frusterating, and I have taken this iPod back multiple time in the last year. To be quite honest, Im getting ****** off. I WANT MY IPOD TO WORK. Also I have turned it off for quite a while and turned it back on, but nothing will work!!!!!! I NEED HELP.

With a cracked screen, though, you need to take it to an Apple store genius bar and get an out-of-warranty replacement. That is $99 for that model.

Oroilore-
I do not see a way to disable the Picture Frame icon. I looked at Settings-Picture Frame, but none of the options turns it off. The only way I can thinik of, would be if all of your photos had been deleted. If there were no photos, you couldn't have a slide show!
One thing to try is to reset (reboot) your iPad. Hold both the Home and Sleep buttons for several seconds until the Apple logo appears. Ignore the "Slide to power off" arrow. The iPad will restart after a couple of minutes. Resetting this way will not hurt anything, and sometimes clears up mysterious problems.

• I never set a passcode for my iPad but it is locked and I can't get it unlocked. The "slide to unlock" does not work. How do I get it unlocked?

I never set up a passcode for my iPad 2 but it is locked and I can't unlock it. The "slide to unlock" does not work. Any suggestions on how to unlock it?

You have to slide to unlock to bring up the keyboard if a passcode is set. If you can't slide then try the following:
- A reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
If you still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order

• I get a blue screen whenever I unlock it and I have to keep turning it off and on to get the slide to unlock to appear

Have iPod touch and I get a blue screen whenever I unlock it & I have to keep turning it off and on to get the slide to unlock to appear.

Reset the Device:
Hold the power button and the home button down until the device shuts off, then power it back on and see if the problem is resolved.
That won't remove any data. I hope that works.

For how to restore:
iTunes: Restoring iOS software
To restore from backup see:
iOS: How to back up
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload iTunes purchases by:

• My ipod is showing an "activation required" message on my home screen and the slider to unlock it is not working. I've had it for 2 years and had no problems and then it randomly locked up on me and won't let me do a reset. Any way to fix this?

I haven't been able to use my ipod for a month because its stuck on a screen that says "Activation Required" and the slider to unlock it is unresponsive. I've drained the battery and recharged it, I've tried resetting it. When I try opening it in iTunes it tells me its unable to access it because the iPod is locked with a passcode, which I can't enter on my iPod because the slider is unresponsive. Any help?

next thing i would think of is to ask bestbuy apple retailer or bestbuy pple to help u out from here bc im not sure what to do next if u cant get it into dfu mode.
all i can think of is to hold home and power for 30 seconds in the meantime of showing the apple sign at least once or twice.
either that, home and power flashes once and 1/2 sec later release power while holding home still and plug it in wihout trying to let go the home button. dont even let go until itunes says somthing remotly saying anything ...lol
