The slow burning issue

Hi
Like a few other people here I am having issues with the DVD burner (Matshita UJ-846) in my new iMac (+iSight), at the moment the fastest I can get it to burn is at 4x (12-13 minutes for a full disk), using Verbatim 8x disks.
Is anyone burning at full speed? If so what media are you using and how long does an 8x burn take?
Russell

Is there a reason you don't think LaCie should get his money or are you just offering a cost-saving alternative?
I was surprised when I used iDVD 5 with my LaCie drive connected. iDVD defaulted to the LaCie drive instead of the iMac's Superdrive and even supported DL burning. Also, a MacWorld comparison test this year rated the LaCie drive as the fastest. My LaCie drive shows 16X burn support on my 8X Maxell media. It's not just a DVD drive and a Firewire case: it is also the drive's firmware and device profile.
I do support your recommendation to get a Firewire case and bare drive as a way to save money. It should out-perform the Superdrive and firmware updates likely will be offered more often than any such updates from Apple.

  • HT1688 Is there going to be a fix for the slow keypad issue using iOS7?

What is happening in regards to this latest upgrade to iOS7 causing slow keypad response?  Is Apple going to address this issue with an update? This is a real problem in the event of needing your phone to make an emergency call or text!!! The slow response could be dangerous! Example: Deaf or Hard of Hearing individuals communicate almost exclusively by text, user to user as well as to a relay service.

I'm trying to roll back to iOS 6 for this and other reasons.  People here on the forums say you can't but that doesn't make any sense.

  • Any success with iTunes 8.2 resolving the CD burning issues 8.1 has had?

Just wondering whether I should attempt to install the 8.2 version if it still isn't allowing CD burning capabilities. I upgraded to 8.1 a couple of weeks ago and now I'm wondering if I should downgrade back to 8.0 until this major issue has been resolved. If I've read the various posts here correctly, the CD burning problems started with version 8.1 and not 8.0? I haven't attempted to burn with either version yet, so I'm trying to avoid the problems most other iTunes users have been having with it.

I have had the problems described here and after an exhaustive search, I did the following and it fixed the problem.
The issue is related to GEAR. Go to:
    http://www.gearsoftware.com/support/drivers.php
and download the driver. I did this and *no longer* get the error about not being able to burn a disc or disk drives not found. I have Vista and this is with iTunes 8.2. Hope this works for you as well!

  • Information on the "slow typing" issue

I think I've uncovered a (maybe the) cause of the slow typing complaints that's worthy of a new topic. I had severe problems with the trifold brochure, and found that some other templates also were "slow typing" templates. After reading all the posts here, with at least a dozen different fixes, none of which fixed my particular probelm, I started experimenting. What I found was interesting.
All my problems with slow typing (seeing the results of key presses show up on-screen seconds after the event) were traced to one single problem - a table format. When text flowed around a table with its Text Fit choice as "Wrap text to follow a square border", typing was slow. With the Text Fit choice changed to "Wrap text to follow the contour", typing was fast. Seems too simple.
This change made a HUGE difference in the trifold brochure, and a noticeable difference in a couple of the others that I tried. Some tables, especially those with pictures, not text, are disguised and not easy to recognize, so if you're having the notorious "slow typing" problem, look carefully at tables in your document as a possible cause.

I am a scientist who needs to write grants and papers with long text sections and embedded figures. I LOVE the way Pages handles graphics but even with a 12 page document with 3 small tables and 2 figures I am waiting 10-20 seconds for the typing to catch up (doing all the suggestions in these threads)! Together with the fact that there is no direct link to referencing programs like Endnote (which I am forced to use to interact with PC-based colleagues) makes Pages decidedly less useful than the Phantom Menace - MS Word. That beast uses 1/3 the CPU percentage and works faster in general than this lean, mean, Apple product. NOTE TO APPLE: Please please please bring users like me back from the dark side!!

  • Has anyone resolved the slow playback issue?

I've run across a few older posts related to slow playback of Captivate output, but it doesn't look like the issue has been resolved. I'm experiencing the same problem on a random basis.
At first I thought it was just in the preview mode, so every time I made a change, I published the project to test it. Then the published files started playing back extremely slowly, but not all the time. For example:
    1. I published the project as a swf file, and it played back fine.
    2. I added one slide with a Fade transition and published again. The playback was absurdly slow this time, and I hadn't changed any settings.
    3. Without changing anything, I published again, but I selected the Windows Executable output option. The playback was fine.
    4. I published again, but I switched back to the swf output - it was fine this time.
    5. Tried the Preview feature again. The mouse movement was extremely slow, but the slide transitions weren't as bad - just choppy.
I'm using Captivate 5.5 on Windows XP. Any thoughts?

Does the swf play that way on other computers besides your own?

  • Does itunes 10.1 resolve the slow internet issues of itunes 10?

    Hi guys,
when I installed iTunes 10 I experienced extremly slow internet connections and after looking through the forums, decided as some other users to revert back to iTunes 9. This did resolve my problems.
Now I note that iTunes has moved to 10.1 and I was wondering whether people who have installed it have any issues with their internet connection. I have an iMac 2.67 Quad - intel with OSX 10.6.5.
I would not want to go through all this again, I have been quite disappointed by this issue and the lack of support to it so I'd rather save the trouble and keep my opinion of Apple from any further damage !

i was just forced to install 10.1 b/c 8.21 (BEST itunes version ever - super fast, never crashed, etc) which worked flawlessly finally told me i had to upgrade b/c i could no longer see the store - it just stopped working. it's VERY painful to use 10.1 now, esp the store. this thread covers the same topic:

seems like it's on both windows and mac.

  • Is there anyone who knows how to fix the CD burning issue?

It appears that with an upgrade to iTunes 6.02, I can't burn an audio Cd. I have read through many of the discussion comments to look for anwswers and it appears that MANY of we iTunes users are frustrated with the inability of iTunes to burn audio CD's.
Much like everyone else, I create my playlist, and when I click on burn, itunes checks the media, acesses the playlist and then freezes. I have to cntrlaltdel to exit the program so I don't get any error message number. I do send the error message by email when prompted. I have run a diagnostic... details below.

  • Does 8.0.1 improve the slow startup issue in LabVIEW 8?

Also, does it improve the problem w/ very slow response when selecting "VI properties..."?
Also, does it improve the very slow response when selecting "Format & Precision" on any # (on the front panel & block diagram)?
Also, is the Format inheritance for constant #s using "Create Constant" from the subVI node fixed (i.e., retained type = hex, oct, etc. instead of always decimal)?

I am also VERY disappointed in NI w/ LV8.  It's bad enough that LabVIEW owes me a free utility that allows me to move all my code back to good ol' 6.1 or at least 7 or 7.1.
There's no question that LV8 is a piece of crap that is way slower, crashes way more often, hogs way more resources, is far more arcane in the way things are organized, has lots of irritating behavior changes that you can't make it stop doing, has basically none of the enhancements that I feel LabVIEW needs, and has important features removed.
On the other hand, 8.0.1 was a lot faster on startup for me.

  • Does the iPad mini have the same slow charging issues as my "New IPad"?

I'm considering returning my New IPad and purchasing the iPad mini due to the slow charging issues with my New IPad. Does anyone know if the mini has the same issue?  Does anyone know if Apple is planning on offering a different charger for the New IPad?  I love everything about the New IPad except the charging system. I can't use it as much as I would like to.  It's so disappointing!!!!

I also have issues when charging my brand new iPad mini. I got astonished when I tried to charge it yersterday and realized it took more more time to charge than my iPod Touch 4th generation, which really charges very fast! It even did'nt charge completely so when I got home I put mi iPad mini to charge overnight, at about 12.30 AM, when it had about 13% charge left.
This morning I got shocked when I saw at 6 Am that it hadn't charged completely. Just 96%, which means the iPad mini can't be totally charged during a 6 hours charging session. So after reading all these posts I get disappointed with this huge issue for iPad users. How can we endure such a long charging sessions for a device that you normally use all the time. For instance, when you're traveling you always need to charge the iPad very quickly. Just a few travelers would allow their ipads to rule their schedules on such a bizarre way!
I was also worried because I don't live in the States. It was my brother who bought it for me, so taking my device to the Apple Glass Cube in New York or any other retailer or just to have this issue technically solved is a big problem for me! So international customers who think to buy this wonderful mini tablet should consider that such a marvelous device is dealing with an absurd and disappointing big problem related to an aspect customers would hardly imagine.

  • SuperDrive slow burning solution

Hi all. After days of researching and blog hunting, I finally realized that Apple's got an online iMac G5 webchat help (DUH) (http://www.apple.com/support/imac/) and that the technicians are working on this slow burning problem.
Apparently when you upgrade (archive and transfer user data) to a new OS (ie: Panther to Tiger) some of the files in the main Preference folder becomes corrupted, because if you create a new user and restart your computer under that new user and run Disk Utility, you will find that your SuperDrive's maximum burn speeds are restored. So Apple has assertained that the slow burn is a software issue, not hardware.
So what Apple got me to do was to reboot my computer back under the original user account name, then go to the Library folder and take out the original Preferences folder (./Library/Preferences) and place it on your desktop..DON'T TRASH IT. Then restart your computer. Once rebooted, launch Disk Utility and try to burn something with both DVD and CD mediums, and you'll see that their burning speeds will be restored to factory specs (in my case it would be 4X DVD and 16X CD). Quit out of Disk Utility. Drag all the contents of the original Preference folder on your desktop into the newly created Preference folder (./Library/Preference) WITHOUT REPLACING THE NEW FILES. Restart, and everything seems to be fine. Hope this helps.

Having visited the stationary store and paid exhorbitent prices, I have had success with 8x verbatim DVD+R and 8x TDK DVD-R burning at the 4x that my drive is supposed to be capable of. However highly reputeable Imation 8x discs will only go to 2x. As I understand it (I may be wrong so don't quote me on this!) but i think the problem that I am experiencing is that the firmware in my drive does not recognise many brands of disc and so defaults to 2x. If this is the case, there should be a firmware update which has more media added to the list. I understand pioneer do this but Matshita pass the responsibility on to apple. Let's hope there's an update!!!
My order of 50 Imations hasn't shipped yet so hopefully can be changed to verbatim and also on the bright side, my iMac G5 was supposed to be -R, -rw only but it does +R & +RW as well. Go to terminal and type "drutil info" and it is listed there but system profiler only says -r, -rw. I have successfully used +rw discs! So it's not all bad but would have been more convenient had I known which media to use. I have just carried out an actual burn and it took 14mins +lead in/out for a 3.9GB TDK disc. Definitley faster than the 25mins it was taking with the Imations!
My recommendation: For iMac G5 with UJ-825, I haven't tried Apple discs but they really should work. My tests show that Verbatim & TDK go at the right speed whilst Princo and Imation do not.

  • Anyone know when Mac will have the fix for the slow internet due the 10.8.2. upgrade?

I just uped to 10.8.2 on a Mac pro, and know the internet throughput has dropped from a Ping of 87, download 24.24 Mbps , upload 3.82 Mbps to a ping of 248, download .37 and up of .17.  I have plugged two other Macs (one at a time) into the same network cable as above and got the per 10.8.2 upgrade speeds. Seems that one must conclude that the slow internet issue must be due to the 10.8.2 upgrade. When will Mac have the fix for this?

  • Image burn issue

Hi all, I am having the image burn issue on my sony vaio duo 11 like. Please check the following link for the images. In my case the burn is visible when the background is grey and I work in the desktop mode for some time. I request your feedback and help in solving this issue. http://bit.ly/11FTG08 [with comments] See the bottom. You can see Windows notification area there   You can clearly see a white navigation bar of google chrome which is opened in the desktop mode
I have taken all of these pictures with my mobile camera which is 3 years old. Otherwise the imageburn is very clear and distinct to me. Best regards,Naveen.

    kamesh419,
This is working as intended.  It is the transparent function of Aero.  If the user switches back to desktop view, you can see some of the Start Menu background.  This is not a burn in issue.
If you want you can turn off Aero and the transparent image will go away both in the Start Menu and also from the Desktop view.
    Turn off Aero
    1)      Go to the Start Menu
    2)      Type Computer
    3)      Right click on Computer and select properties
    4)      Click on Advanced System settings
    5)      Select Settings under Performance
    6)      Select “Adjust for best performance”
    7)      Click apply and ok.

  • Itunes 8.01 cd burning issues. Please Help

wondering if anyone else has been experiencing the same issue i have in itunes 8.01. When i burn a disc now i have an array of issues. 1st, with the same media i used successfully before, sometimes when i attempt to burn a audio cd i get a dialog box that reads burn disc fail, unable to calibrate the laser for this media. It happens at various write speeds, so not sure what wrong. Also the few disc i was successful in burning skip during playback and will-not play in certain cd players. The bottom of the disc is scratch-less and everything appears normal. Lost at the moment. Anyone have a solution or suggestions please help. Or is their a certain type of cd that works best.
    thank you
    bac

Just got it back from the shop? Did you mention the CD burning issues when you took it in? It really sounds to me like you have drive problems more than iTunes problems. The difference is indicated by whether or not Finder recognizes any given disk or not.
If Finder does not recognize that the drive has a disk in it or can't read the disk, that is most likely a drive problem and is best resolved by Apple service.
A possible long term, spend money option is to purchase a good external optical drive. If you burn lots of disks, this option makes more sense. I have a LaCie drive that burns all the current formats plus has Light Scribe capability. I don't recall getting a coaster out of it. Plus I can move it from computer to computer.
"1 coaster in 5 with 7" means that he got 1 bad disk out of 5 burns with iTunes version 7. If you have been using Time Machine than you can restore the application from the applications folder some time back, when you had a previous version of iTunes. If not, restoring an older version becomes more tricky and I have to rely on the advice of others to tell us how to do that.
If you are not backing up your system with Time Machine or something else (Time Machine is really the best, I think), back up a couple files from your iTunes folder. Copy and save somewhere the 'iTunes Library' file as well as the 'iTunes Music Library.xml' file. If something happens and all your library info (a list of all the music you've added plus playlists, etc) can be restored by simply replacing those files in your iTunes folder with the ones you saved somewhere else. You need to update the saved files periodically as you add music or otherwise change things in your iTunes, but that is no big deal. Just periodically re-copy the files to the place where they are saved and click 'Replace' in the pop-up when prompted.
Hope this helps. Please let me know.

  • Is the slow SATA HD issue still unresolved in latest Bootcamp?

an earlier post by kkapoor indicated lack of support for SATA drives in Win XP, and indicated a fix to a now dead web site. Is the slow SATA still an issue? Will it impair running games in Windows mode( the only use I have for Windows)?

I believe this issue was resolved by the Mac Pro SMC Firmware Update.
