The slowness of Bridge scrolling

One of the top agonies of Brige is the horrid scrolling situation.
I have a fodler of just 29GB of raw, 1000, yet scrolling up and down is just torture. It jumps around and is choas.
Someone once on this forum said ram, ram, ram. I put max ram in the computer and it did hot help at all.
Apple techs said it was the limitation of slow hardrive accessing the data.
But on another new thread, on another forum,  someone jsut said this:
"I use Aperture, not Bridge, and with referenced images multiple TBs of images on external HDDs are essentially instant-access;"
Any comments on that. thanks!
BTW , why is adobe the only forum where you type in your question and then you have to retype it in a new window, am I missing something there? thanks.

Going down rathole Curt. I'm not buying a new video card. and I'm buying more Ram as I alredy tried that, huge TIME WASTE.
Kevin, Curt knows a lot about Windows and (as he is the first to admit) not very familiar with Mac, hence he is probably not aware of the fact the iMac is build in the monitor itself.
Yet he is trying to help you and asks for several times about your specs and you keep denying to answer this very legitimate question every time.
In one post you talk about a brand new iMac, in the other it is 2 year old. Simple question is: does it have 256 MB VRAM or 512 MB VRAM and how many RAM is installed. Both info is easy to find under the menu with the apple icon top left at your screen (About this Mac).
For instance 256 MB VRAM for your Graphic Card does just meet the minimum specs for CS5 but CS6 demands 512 MB VRAM as a minimum. Yet minimum requirements are what the say they are, the minimum. Using large amounts of big files do require a bit more then minimum specs.
Same about RAM, minimum required is 1GB but I can assure you you won't be happy with this small amount, especially if you have multiple apps open. The system itself alone requires use of this RAM. The more RAM the more work speed you will have. Prices for RAM are very cheap nowadays so put as much as possible in your machine.
So again, please provide your specs about VRAM, RAM and amount of free space left  on your start up disk (Plenty is not very exactly...). And also could you provide the exact version of your OSX (also About this Mac: OSX 10.x.x)
And yes, The Path Bar rarely disappears in CS6 and certainly not every time! (as recaching every time does not occur on my Mac and that of many, many others)
Finally, about the order of your workspaces from post #16:
Left of the first workspace name (top of the Bridge window, in your case 'Main 3' is a very tiny double line of vertical dots. If you grab these lines with your cursor you can drag the line to the left and extend the row of names. When 'Filmstrip' is visible just grab the name Filmstrip and move it to the left between Thumb' and 'Essentials'. or an other location. this will rearrange the order in the list for shortcuts (drop down menu under the triangle) also.

  • What's with the slow gets from my ResultSets?

I have two databases, an Omnis and a MySQL. I'm trying to copy the data from the Omnis into the mysql, but the getXXX(int i) methods acting on my ResultSet are LUDICROUSLY slow... to transcribe a meager 2660 entires (with 15 columns) takes a staggering 25.3 minutes! Now, what's interesting here is Microsoft Access can have the data in about 3 seconds. Same thing applies when moving from MySQL to access or one MySQL database to the other.
I am forced to assume that the problem lies with the ResultSet object that the JDBC:ODBC bridge that I'm using to access Omnis from Java. It's also confirmed that the culprits are the get methods, as I can iterate through the entire ResultSet with successive calls to rs.next() and get all the way through it in a couple seconds so long as there are no getXXX() methods in the while loop. Is this problem surmountable? What gives? O_o
    thanks in advance.

It's not the JDBC-ODBC bridge either... as I can pull data from Omnis > Access > MySQL in about 1/1000th of the time it takes me to go from Omnis > MySQL.

  • Indesign slow with Bridge -Photoshop-Illustrator

    Hello there,
First, sorry for my english i'm French.
One of my collegue is experiencing  issue with CS6 indesign.
Installed in a PC with Intel core i7 370 2.93/2.93 gHZ, 16 GB RAM.
    Windows seven 64 bits.
Once he open a files of more than 10 Mb in Indisign and open in the same times Bridge or photoshop to integrate pictures or illustrator the PC get really slow and the users must wait several minutes to get the work done.
I never use myself The CS6 so I don't know if this behaviour is normal.
Before that the user was using CS4 and he did not have so much trouble with the same kind of files and he was doing the same work on it.
Beside the CS6, the unit has some standart software installed, Microsoft office 2003 and basically that's all except web navigator and some soft like cccleaner,VLC,Quicktime, nero burning room, kaspersky antivirus...
He never get any error message, or blue screen or whatever...microsoft and adobe updates are done.
All users in the services have the same hardware and software and this is the only one who had issue, the only difference is that he is working on bigger files.
I have ask him to try to work on the PC of his colllegue to check if issue appears to but he willbe able to do the test tomorow PM only.
When we have migrate from CS4 to CS6, I did not reinstall windows, just desinstalled CS4 and then install CS6.
I didn't use the CS cleaner tool....
Did someone knows where the issue can come from ? drive access or software related ?
It's busy timing for now so I don't want to reinstall all the PC and CS6 before knowing it will solved the issue.
    Thx a lot,
    Elisa

Is there any technical support when you buy CS6 ???
I mean our compagny had Cs4 before and now -  like there is no upgrade anymore-  we bought 9 complete CS6 license ( including 2 master) and no help from adobe ?
So basically:  adobe, it's we get your money we are happy if  you have issue,  we don't give a s**t !!!

  • Best way to deal with photos from the start? (Bridge CS5 and iPhoto)

    Hi all,
I'm just learning the ropes of the whole CS5 suite, and was starting to add keywords etc. in Bridge when I realized I couldn't access the files in my iPhoto ('09) library. I've read a few threads about this issue, but haven't really found a consensus on how to deal with it.
I figure I'm in a good position to get things right from the start since I have no tags or ratings etc. in my iPhoto setup (and have only added keywords to the few pics that weren't in my iPhoto Library), and am wondering what you think is the best way to sort photos given I plan on using them in web design etc., and all the parts of my CS5 suite.
If getting the photos out of iPhoto is best what's the best way to do that? I've read suggestions to right click on the library and click on "Show Contents"- or something like that, but that does not come up as an option when I right click my iPhoto Library in Bridge. Thanks so much for your help!
Please let me know if there is any info I could give you that would be helpful in order to figure this one out.
    Best,
    Mara

I must be far too lazy to be sure.  In iPhoto if I want to move an image all I
do is click and drag from iPhoto to the desktop.
Here comes the trouble with using iPhoto and mixing applications. You have
to be sure what you do in iPhoto because you easily grab the wrong version
    instead of the original.
As Tai Lao pointed out the the difference between Bridge and iPhoto in short
is open visible structure for Bridge and hidden invisible library for
    iPhoto.
There may be perfect and valid reason to use iPhoto but mixing the two
workflows without thinking or knowing what you do is bound to get you sooner
or later in trouble with wrong versions of the file.
And clicking and dragging from iPhoto is easy to mistake in those versions.
1 - I used to create incredible folder/sub-folder arrangements depending upon
operating system file management to find files.
You can create whatever structure you want including a thought through
naming convention that suites your needs, if you keep doing this in Bridge
you can easily open and close folders using the folder panel, in iPhoto you
have a lot of events and albums but none as clear as in Bridge. (at least
    that is my opinion...)
Also I would prefer to use a good naming convention with less folders and
subfolders instead of bad file naming and many well named folders. Also
using the metadata options description and keywords let's you easily find
the files you want but when having the need to retrieve the original from an
external disk or DVD using less folders will be quicker to find.
Since depending upon metadata keywords or star ratings I now prefer to have
all images (originals and amended) in one single folder as Bridge (or iPhoto
for that matter) can only see the images in the folder it is looking at.
Wrong, using the find option (cmd+F) you can specify Bridge to look in main
folders or entire disk, include the option to look in subfolders and you are
in business (but the first time Bridge caches it also need to index all the
metadata, that takes some time but only the first time.
2 - potential feature request for Bridge?
To have an option where Bridge can see and display images in subfolder
arrangements from the folder it is looking at.
That is already there since a view versions
Select a folder with subfolders and then from the menu view select 'show
    items for subfolders'
It is still not a perfect way of functioning but it gets better every new
version, in CS5 the speed of gathering the files is very much improved.
However here is iPhoto the winner because it keeps the files in cache (or
something like that) Bridge is not the best in this behavior but it is
    possible to use.
This is a bit like a restriction of OS X "All images" to all images in the
selected folder and all subfolders of the selected folder (if that makes any
    sense at all)
Many users have tons of files on there system, why would you use that option
to view all if you are perfectly capable of finding the files or file types
you want in most applications (but you can also find them in OSX, you want
psd files do a search for ".psd" and you will see all the psd files on your
    system.
3 - iPhoto can't really handle large files.  With one event consisting of
4,500+ images weighing in at 884 MB it is zippy.  Were those to be originals
at a high resolution iPhoto would probably be tediously slow and require a
folder/sub-folder arrangement which, to me, seems to undermine the importance
    of managing stuff using keywords.
IPhoto is not designed to be a professional application, therefore you can't
    expect behavior for this
In Bridge you have no limit of files on your system only the limit for the
cache is somewhere around 500.000 I believe. But even Bridge is not really
designed for handling that amount of files in a pleasant way.
I also don't know of an application that can do so for normal retail prices,
most users of that amount of files have custom made or customized
application that costs many thousands dollars. Bridge is in fact a free gift
when buying a Suite application from Adobe.
The file size for viewing in Bridge is by default set to a max of 1 GB but
that is for building previews you can see thumbs and small previews of
bigger files. In the Bridge preferences you can set the limit for this to
whatever you want, it only grows the cache file for previews when using many
    large files.
In summary: Bridge is great for CS5 partnering on metadata, original images or
    large filesizes.
    I couldn't agree more!
iPhoto is great on sharing images across devices and better
still if those files are low res with small filesizes?
    I couldn't disagree more...
You can do all of this using Bridge to start own created actions or with
    scripts like image processor.
Do some research on Adobe TV or view other video tutorials on the web, there
are many free and good tutorials. You will learn that you can do all you
want in Bridge (and a lot more...)

  • Anyone found an answer to the slow time m/c backups?

This slow back up problem with Time Machine has affected my Mac Pro work station since I installed Mountain Lion a few weeks ago. This is not a wireless problem as my time m/c is connected via a usb lead.
I decided to replace my 4 year old 1TB WD HD which I have been using as Time m/c since December 2008 as this drive had filled up quite rapidly since installing Mountain Lion, and I replaced it with a new 1TB WD HD two days ago. This did not resolve the slow back up problem, but eliminated a possible cause of slow back-ups.
I wondered if Time m/c was rewriting files as it used up quite a bit of space on my old HD?
The time m/c HD pauses for some time during backups, and will take well over 30minutes to backup a few megabytes of information.
Currently I am backing up my work whilst working, and I now cancel back-up on shut down as it takes so much time to back up to file vault.
The 1TB WD HD I am using for Time m/c contains all of my data from the two hard drives in my machine, but a check of the volumes of my HD's bares little comparison to that shown by the volume on Time m/c.
A 2011 Macbook Air which had Lion installed on it when purchased, and has now been updated to OSX 10.8.1 does not appear to have problems backing up to a 500GB Seagate portable drive. Although my 2010 Macbook Pro now updated to OSX 10.8.1 does appear to be slower backing up to a WD My Book 500GB HD.
Hope some one can solve this problem as I am baffled.

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Enter the word "Starting" (without the quotes) in the String Matching text field. You should now see log messages with the words "Starting * backup," where * represents any of the words "automatic," "manual," or "standard." Note the timestamp of the last such message. Clear the text field and scroll back in the log to that time. Post the messages timestamped from then until the end of the backup, or the end of the log if that's not clear.
Post the log text, please, not a screenshot. If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don't post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
PLEASE DO NOT INDISCRIMINATELY DUMP THOUSANDS OF LINES FROM THE LOG INTO A MESSAGE. If you do that, I will not respond.
Some personal information, such as the names of your files, may be included — edit that out, too, but don’t remove the context.

  • All my pdf files are very slow to download, scroll down and/or read.

I am having difficulties opening any pdf files as it is very slow, does not scroll down easily and just plain cumbersome.  Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?  Additionally, as soon as I want to open the file, the fan on the cpu starts.  I am not sure if they are related, but it just happens all the time.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Can I slow my trackpad scrolling down?!

I just installed windows on my mac. when I scroll on websites and such, the scrolling is way too fast for me to see what I'm scrolling. I slide both my fingers down a half an inch and it jumps an entire page. If I try slowly scrolling my fingers, then the page doesn't scroll. I just want to be able to scroll my fingers down 2 inches and have the sheet scroll down a couple lines.
    Is this possible?
    Thanks

Yes, you can slow it down. Not really a FIX per se, but more like a bandaid.
Just, click the ALT key while scrolling.

  • Slowing speed in scrolling block titles

The text in my scrolling block titles scrolls too fast, even tho I've slowed the speed to the maximum slow. Is there any way of slowing down the scroll even more?
Secondly, there's a long period of black after the last text before the next clip kicks in. Can that period be shortened?

    Lennart,
I'm happy with my scrolling title, now. Thanks. I just assumed the hare/tortoise slider increased the speed of the playhead absolutely. That is, the entire program would run faster/slower. Now I see the playhead advances relative to the duration of that particular clip: faster with short clips, longer for long clips, depending on their duration, a realization to which you would respond, "Of course."

  • Why do I have slow and choppy scrolling?

I am having problems scrolling. The when I try to scroll the pages are jumpy and choppy.

I have the same problem, it's not occurring all the time, but very often. Slow response in scrolling websites, switching between tabs and very laggy when scrolling pdf documents, comparing to chrome. There's a feeling like firefox just hangs up. Can't be the computers fault, because other software works with no problems while firefox isn’t responding.
w7 Professional, i7, 4gb ram, no problems with chrome, ie.

  • How can i SLOW [not speed] scrolling speed in Windows FF?

How can i SLOW [not speed] scrolling speed in Windows FF?

I'm not very familiar with trackballs, but I'll add a comment regarding the keyboard part.
    ''ameame [[#answer-722079|said]]''
    <blockquote>
When i press my spacebar or keyboard arrow key, [all] pages scroll too fast.</blockquote>
On my Firefox, the spacebar skips down a screenful at a time, like the PgDn key. When that repeats, it's certainly going to cover a lot of ground, and a lot faster than the down arrow key. But pressing the spacebar a few times can be efficient if you don't hold it down continuously.
The distance covered by the up and down arrow keys can be modified using a different preference:
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''scroll''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Scroll all the way down to '''toolkit.scrollbox.verticalScrollDistance''' which usually has a default value of '''3'''
    * If the preference is bolded and user set to a value higher than 3, use right-click > Reset to set it back to 3 and test how that works for you (test on a normal web page, not the about:config page)
    * To reduce the number of lines below 3, double-click to edit and type a smaller number and then you can test that (test on a normal web page and not the about:config page)
    Does that help at all?
''Note: I assume you are not using "Caret Browsing" which moves the cursor through the text of the document when you press the up and down arrow keys. The results can be somewhat unpredictable depending on the layout of the page. If you want to test that feature, you can turn it on and off by pressing the F7 function key.''

  • My mid 2010 Mac running yosemite lock has recently started to lock up when I do a swipe on the magic mouse to scroll a web page

My mid 2010 Mac running yosemite has recently started to lock up when I do a swipe on the magic mouse to scroll a web page. Anybody having a similar experience?  I believe I've taken the last update to Yosemite within the last several weeks but this behavior did not start in concurrence with any system maintenance events.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

Im in a small village in Spain and cannot get to an Appke store to get it fixed yet. Any ideas?

Plug your phone into the wall charger for at least 30 minutes...make sure you have a sim card in the phone...then:
Leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, iTunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode, if not quit and reopen iTunes. If you still don’t see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option to restore from a backup or set up as new.
Make sure you have no anti-virus software running or any firewalls...turn all of that stuff off.
