The sound for applications isnt working on my macbook.

The sound when i turned it on and notifacation sounds work, but when i try to watch a video or play music it doesnt. I have tried turning it up and down but nothing works. The sounds icon appears on my screen as usual and goes up and down but the actual sound doesnt change.

Preferences> Accounts> click the [+] icon and fill in the blanks.
select POP account

7Will the Sound Blaster X-Fi Work with Sony Viao Laptop?@ I have a Sony Vaio Laptop. When i purchased the laptop i did not know you could only play music through the mic on Sony Vaio. The mic and sound card are intergrated and there is no stereo mix on the Sony Vaio's.( You cannot en-able the stereo mix on Vaio's )I like to play music on a chat program called pal talk, they have music rooms. But my music sounds like crap because i have to play through the mic. I purchased this USB Sound Blaster to hopefully allow me to play through the sound blaster card. There is a lady on pal talk who plays music and talks on the mic using a Sony Vaio. She is the one that told me i needed to get a creavti've sound card to play music in the rooms. The problem is
I can't find her to ask which sound card she purchased. So i did some research and purchased the X-Fi usb card. Now the problems start. I purchased the X-Fi, turned on the?my laptop as stated?and inserted?the X-Fi?
Into the USB slot. The program asked for permission to run and i clicked yes. It download almost all the way and became stuck while installing the console, went from zero to 27% and stopped. I tryed it 8 times with the same thing happening. I went to the site and downloaded the software from there and the same thing happened. What am i doing wrong? Also when i inserted the unit in the USB slot and clicked on the speaker icon and pulled up the sound information, i see that the X-Fi mic is installed and working but i don't see the X-fi sound card? I checked every where! Also i tryed playing music in one of the music rooms and they said no sound, no sound! Is it just that this will not work with a Sony Vaio? Or am i doing something wrong? I am running vista 64 bit, 4 gig's of memory and daul core?processor and my Laptop is only months old. The laptop sound card is Reltek High Deff Audio. Any help would be great.

This is one OS X's few weak spots. For most software, it is sufficient to drag the application out of the Applications folder and into the trash. Of course, this does not delete its preference files, etc, but these are usually pretty small, and can either be left in place or deleted separately.
Some software might ship with a separate uninstaller utility that you can run. Sometimes, the package installer can also perform uninstalling, too.
You can buy general purpose uninstaller utilities, but as far as I know they won't work for software already installed; only for software installed once the uninstaller is in place.
Perhaps the safest option is to contact the company that made the game and ask them how it should be uninstalled.

No alert sounds for applications running on Rosetta

I've lost sound for applications running on Rosetta, i.e. Entourage. I even tried it with Safari in Rosetta, and there's no sound there either. All Intel native applications sound off fine.
I'm running OS 10.4.10. Hope someone can help.

Sure, To mute iCal on your iPod Touch do the following.
Settings > Sounds > 'slide off' Calendar alerts.
To keep alerts but for only specific events in in calendar on your iPod Touch do the following.
Edit an event > Tap 'Alert' > Select None
There is no way of getting the alert but muting the sound unless you wan to mute the sound on all alert which if you do i recommend the following, hope this helps.

Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Check your settings. The iPads have a small switch on the right edge. It can be used as a rotation lock to keep the screen from automatically reorienting itself as you move around, but you need to have the tablet’s settings configured properly. That same switch, right above the volume buttons, can also be set to function instead as a mute button to silence certain types of audio.
If the switch is set to work as a mute button, you can change its purpose to “screen-rotation lock” by tapping the Settings icon on the home screen. On the Settings screen, tap General on the left side, and on the right side of the screen flick down to “Use Side Switch to.” Tap to select Lock Rotation or Mute to set the button’s function. Even if you set the side switch for your preferred use, you can still mute the Mini or lock the screen. Just double-click the Home button, and when the panel of apps appears along the bottom edge of the screen, flick the row from left to right with your finger. Tap the icon on the far left side of the row to either lock the iPad’s screen or mute the iPad’s alerts, notifications and sound effects.
