The SQL Server Reporting Services (MSSQLSERVER) service hung on starting.

Hi experts,
The SQL Server Reporting Services (MSSQLSERVER) service hung on starting.
we are receving these errors  twice per week.
 colud you share solution.

Hi vijay_1234,
When you try to start SSRS, are you receive a time-out error or other errors?
To work around this problem, we can configure the computer so that the network does not retrieve trusted and untrusted CTLs. Please use one of the following methods:
Change the Group Policy settings.
Modify the registry.
Increase the default service time-out.
For more details, please refer to the following KB:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2745448
If the issue is still existed, please check RS Logs in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS11.MSSQLSERVER\Reporting Services\LogFiles.
Hope this helps.
Thanks,

    Thanks for the link to the Reporting Services forum.  I found the fix in this thread:
    https://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=3644545&SiteID=1
    I had to create a registry key and reboot:
    1.
    Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
    2.
    Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control
    3.
    In the right pane, locate the ServicesPipeTimeout entry.
    Note If the ServicesPipeTimeout entry does not exist, you must create it. To do this, follow these steps:
    a.
    On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
    b.
    Type ServicesPipeTimeout, and then press ENTER.
    4.
    Right-click ServicesPipeTimeout, and then click Modify.
    5.
    Click Decimal, type 60000, and then click OK.
    This value represents the time in milliseconds before a service times out.
    6.
    Restart the computer.
    After the reboot, the service was running.  Thanks for your help with this.

    Hi Logicinisde,
    This issue might be caused that we install named instance on the machine, or the default instance listening a different port rather than the default one.
    To solve this issue, please refer to the following article for detail information:

  • How to show or publish the TFS - SQL Server Reporting Services reports in SharePoint dashboard?

    Hello,
    We have configured SharePoint site and SSRS for a team project.
    Foll. is the SharePoint site for the team project. When we click on the REPORTS link, it redirects us to the SQL Server Reporting Services website.
    My question is: How can I show or publish the reports from  SQL Server Reporting Services into SharePoint so that I can view the reports on SharePoint dashboard rather than having to go to the SSRS URL?

    Hi Nachiket,
    If you configure Reporting service for your TFS, then you can view the reports in report manger site when you click click report on Team Explorer. And SharePoint is a collaboration website product that offers deep integration with Office products like Word,
    Outlook, and Excel. You can save your team project related files in your SharePoint site. Check this
    page for more details.
    If you want to view reports that generated by reporting service on your SharePoint site, you might need to save the report in Excel and upload it to SharePoint site.
    Best regards,

  • [Forum FAQ] The Reporting Server cannot be reinstalled on a same SQL Server Reporting Service instance

    Symptom: Sometimes, when you want to reinstall the Reporting Server Role for Operation Manager 2012,
    but you may encounter an issue that the Reporting Server Role cannot be reinstalled after you successfully uninstall it. When you check the System Center Operation Manager installation log, you can find the following error as shown in Figure 1.
    Figure 1: Reporting Server Role cannot be reinstalled
    It seems that the SQL Server Reporting Service has not been configured properly. When you open Reporting Services Configuration Manager to check the settings, the settings seem fine though.
    Even you recreate Reporting Service Database, the error remains.
    After reviewing the OpsMgrSetupWizard.log, we get the following errors when wizard try to connect to SQL Server Reporting Instance (Figure 2).
    [07:24:05]:    Error:  :CheckHttpAddressResponse failed: Threw Exception.Type: System.Net.WebException, Exception Error Code: 0x80131509, Exception.Message:

    httpSite)
    Figure 2: Error Log -1
    It indicates the Reporting Service encounters an internal error. The Website cannot handle the request. So you may check the Reporting Service log which is located in C:\Users\Administrator.SCOM2012\AppData\Local\SCOM\LOGS
    and the following errors may be found (Figure 3).
    library!ReportServer_0-18!1448!03/30/2014-02:53:23:: e ERROR: Throwing Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.ServerConfigurationErrorException:
    Unable to load assembly Microsoft.EnterpriseManagement.Reporting.Security, Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.ServerConfigurationErrorException: The report server has encountered a configuration error.  ---> System.IO.FileNotFoundException:
    Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.EnterpriseManagement.Reporting.Security' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.
    File name: 'Microsoft.EnterpriseManagement.Reporting.Security'
    Figure 3: Error Log -2
    Reason: After the Reporting Server is installed on a SSRS instance, the Reporting Server of SCOM
    needs to modify the web.config and rsreportserver.config  file to add its own assembly to make the Reporting Server work. But it does not change it back when Reporting Server is uninstalled. So the assembly cannot be loaded and the SSRS cannot respond
    our requests.
    Resolution:  When the Reporting Server is installed, the old web.config and rsreportsserver.config
    files will be backed up to web.config1 and rsreportsserver.config1. So you just need to change the files’ name back, then try to install Reporting Server of SCOM again. Everything would go smoothly.

    Hi AakashGhare,
    According to your error message, SQL Server 2008 databases are version 655. SQL Server 2008 R2 databases are 661. When you are trying to attach an 2008 R2 database (v. 661) to an 2008 instance and this is not supported. As other post, once the database has
    been upgraded to an 2008 R2 version, it cannot be downgraded. You'll have to either upgrade your 2008 SP2 instance to R2, or you have to copy out the data in that database into an 2008 database (such as using the data migration wizard).
    In addition, if you want to use a Windows Batch file code and command to automatically login to SQL Server, detach database and attach a new one database, there is a similar details about batch code for attaching database to a new database, you can refer
    to this article.

  • SQL Server Reporting Service 2008 R2 - The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized.

    I got the error "The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized." when I call the Reporting Service Web Service.
    The code is very simple:
    // Initialise the reporting service Web Service
    this.RSWebService = new ReportingService2010();
    // Pass windos authentication credentials to Web Service
    this.RSWebService.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials;
    // List children
    List<CatalogItem> reports = this.RSWebService.ListChildren(folder, false).ToList();
    The SQL Server is installed on a different machine (say server A) from the Web server (say server B). We are using Windows Server 2003.
    The code work fine for all the scenario below:
    i) Run locally (XP) to call the web service on the sql server
    ii) Provide the Network Credentials with the username, password, and domain when calling the web service
    iii) If the web server and sql server is using same server (i.e. not distributed)
    I'm using windows authentication and impersonation. Any idea?

    Hi Raymond,
    If I understand correctly, the issue only happens in the environment that the web server is different with the SQL Server Reporting Services server. This means the web server is a remote server of the Report Server. Windows Integrated authentication is used
    in this case. When running the web page, the 401 error occurs.
    If so, it is actually a double hop issue. The double-hop problem will usually only be an issue to those of you who write some sort of web-based code (a web application or web service) that uses impersonation.
    To fix the issue, we can configure kerberos authentication for the web application and the SQL Server Reporting Services.
    Below is a great article that has delivered many solutions to fix the issue you met:
    http://odetocode.com/articles/216.aspx
    Additionally, you can read the following article to know more about double-hop:

    I tried to register the SPN but unfortunately it still doesn't work. I'm not sure whether I'm using the correct SPN name.
    I have 3 reporting server instance on the SQL box. So the Web Service URL is like
    http://Server:80/VirtualDirectoryDev,
    http://Server:80/VirtualDirectoryTest  and
    http://Server:80/VirtualDirectoryStaging .
    What's the SPN I need to register?
    I tried
    Setspn -a http/Server:80/VirtualDirectoryDev domain\account
    and
    Setspn -a http/aerver:80 domain\account.
    But both of them are not working :(

    Hi RP,
    For your first issue "cannpt create subscriptions", after analyzing the error logs, it seems to be caused to the service account for the Reporting Services service does not have proper permissions to invoke the WIN32 API.
    The SQL Server Reporting Services invokes the Win32 API to impersonate user's permissions to write files to shared folder or call COM+ components.
    In this case, we can change the service account to a account has permissions to invoke the Win32 API to solve the issue. For example, we can change the account to be NetworkService or LocalSystem:
     1. Backup the encryption key using Reporting Serivces Configuration Manager.
     2. Change the service account using Reporting Serivces Configuration Manager.
     3. Restore the encryptiong key using Reporting Serivces Configuration Manager.
    For your others questions, please see the following inline reply:
     --What account should i use for the Deployed Data Source on the Server? A valid SQL Server Account I assume!!!
     The account should be a Windows account or the SQL Server account, that has read permissions in the source data base at least.
     --What account should i use for the Execution Account (For Unattended Operations) ? A valid Windows Account? or SQL Server account?
     The account must be a Windows user account. For best results, choose an account that has read permissions and network logon permissions to support connections to other computers. It must have read permissions on any external image or data file that you
    want to use in a report. Do not specify a local account unless all report data sources and external images are stored on the report server computer. Use the account only for unattended report processing.
     --What account should i use for the File Share Subscription (Credentials used to access the file share:)? A Valid Windows Account with permission for that folder?
     You are right. It must be a Windows account, which has permissions to access and write files to the shared folder.

  • SQL Server Reporting Services Service - missing in Central Admin

    Hi,

    I have a WFE, APP and SQL server. We have SQL Server 2012 SP1. Central Admin is installed on the APP server.

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa905871(v=sql.110).aspx  and then ran
    Install-SPRSService and Install-SPRSServiceProxy
    successfully on the WFE.
    I cannot see "SQL Server Reporting Services Service" in Central Admin.
    (Central Admin is on the APP server)

    Hi Ketak. Thank you for replying. I already followed your instructions - specifically -
    You do not see the SQL Server Reporting Services  service in SharePoint Central Administration after installing SQL Server 2012 SSRS in SharePoint mode
    I get the following error when I run rssharepoint.msi on the APP sever (where Central Admin is installed). I have to run this other wise
    Install-SPRSService and Install-SPRSServiceProxy
    are not recognized as commands on that server.

    Necessary that the SQL Server Reporting Services could include via Web browser from alias "reports2.domain.local/Reports". To do this:
    1) I created a new A record "reports2" in the DNS leading to IP mdr.domain.local
    2) in Reporting Services Configuration Manager on a tab "Web Service URL" in "Report Server Web Service URLs" I add new record "http://reports2:80/ReportServer" (host Header Name: reports2)
    BUT "reports2.domain.local/Reports" is not work. When entering to "reports2.domain.local/Reports" I see page "An error in the security certificate for this Web Site..." and when I click "Continue to ...", then "Unable
    to find a web page."
    What and where I must add/change for work of alias "reports2.domain.local/Reports" by analogy with "mdr.domain.local/Reports"?
    I hope for your help.
    Thanks.

    WooW it's work!!! Thank you
    JJordheim  you are the best!
    With my PKI I create new certificate for "reports2.domain.local" and Import it to MDR server (in Personal). I create new network adapter and configure Reporting Services Configuration on "Report manager URL" tab (for SSL):
    mdr.domain.local - certificate "mdr.domain.local" - network adapter №1
    reports2.domain.local - certificate "reports2.sygroup.local" - network adapter №2
    And all work fine.
    If I configure all to 1 network adapter it's doesn't work.
    Thanks for help!

  • Implementing SQL Server Reporting Services with a Java EE Application

    Hi All,
    I need to find some tutorial on
    "Implementing SQL Server Reporting Services with a Java EE Application"
    for my j2EE application.
    Until now i have searched a lot of sites but have not any thing related to this topic.
    I am using apache axis along with SQL Server Report Manager for creating the sql server reports.
    I have done upto :
    Creating the webservice with the help of report manager.
    Now i want to connect it through my j2EE application and want to retrieve some data from that web service.
    I have got stuck on the following BOLD lines in my code .
    code:
    public CatalogItem[] getData(String res, String searchStr) throws RemoteException     {
                  ReportingService2005Soap port = null;
                  ReportingService2005Locator loc = new ReportingService2005Locator();
                  // Retrieve a port from the service locator
                  try {
                       port = loc.getReportingService2005Soap(new java.net.URL(res));
                  } catch (MalformedURLException e) {
                       // TODO Auto-generated catch block
                       e.printStackTrace();
                  } catch (ServiceException e) {
                       // TODO Auto-generated catch block
                       e.printStackTrace();
                  org.apache.axis.client.Stub stub = (org.apache.axis.client.Stub) port;
                  stub.setUsername("localhost\\Administrator");
                  stub.setPassword("servWIN@2007");
                  // Retrieve a port from the service locator
                  SearchCondition condition = new SearchCondition();
                  condition.setCondition(ConditionEnum.Contains);
                  condition.setName("Name");
                  if (searchStr != null)
                  condition.setValue(searchStr);
                  else
                  condition.setValue("");
        //           Create an array of SearchConditions which will contain our single search condition
                  SearchCondition[] conditions;
                  conditions = new SearchCondition[1];
                  conditions[0] = condition;
        //           Call the Web service with the appropriate CatalogItem[] returnedItems;
                  CatalogItem[] returnedItems = null;
                  port.findItems("foldername",BooleanOperatorEnum.Or, conditions);
                  return returnedItems;
             }i.e. while executing the findItems() method i got the following exception :
    System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: The item '/reportingservices' cannot be found. ---> Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.ItemNotFoundException: The item '/reportingservices' cannot be found.
    at Microsoft.ReportingServices.Library.RSService.FindItems(String folder, String operation, SearchCondition[] properties)
    at Microsoft.ReportingServices.WebServer.ReportingService2005Impl.FindItems(String Folder, BooleanOperatorEnum BooleanOperator, SearchCondition[] Conditions, CatalogItem[]& Items)
    Any any body has any idea please help me.
    I need it urgently.
    Regards.

    The above example is mentioned in msdn virtual lab that teaches how to connect to reporting services from a j2ee application.
    I have done the same thing .. but i am not able to render the report programmatically .. if anybody knows pls let me know the solution.

  • Susbscription Action not showing in SQL Server Reporting Services Web Part

    I am trying to use the SQL Server Reporting Services Report Viewer Web Part in a Share Point site.  Under the View section of the Web Part Properties, I am able to select "Show subscription menu item".  However, it never shows up.  Is
    there something else I need to configure to allow this Action menu item to show up?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Gouranga,
    According to your description, when you install the SQL Server 2012 Reporting Services Add-in for SharePoint 2013, you find the files are installed into the folder for sharepoint 2010(..../14). Right?
    In Reporting Services, Not all features are supported in all combinations of report server, Reporting Services add-in for SharePoint, and SharePoint Products. Please see the linke below:
    Supported Combinations of SharePoint and Reporting Services Server and Add-in (SQL Server 2012)
    As you can see in the link, the SQL Server 2012 Reporting Services Add-in is only for Sharepoint 2010. This the reason why it's installed into the file for sharepoint 2010.
    Reference:
    Where to find the Reporting Services add-in for SharePoint Products (SharePoint 2010 and SharePoint 2013)
    Install or Uninstall the Reporting Services Add-in for SharePoint
    If you have any question, please feel free to ask.
    Best Regards,
    Simon Hou
