The standby time is only 12 hours, in the closing of all the background conditions,  WHY?

A new machine for 2 days is the same situation

Closing the "background apps" was a waste of time, since very few actually are running (only audio and some nav apps do).
Reset the phone (no data loss): Press both home and power buttons for at least 10 seconds, releasing when the Apple logo appears.

  • Is it normal for the iPhone 5 to stay only 12 hours without charge?

    Hey
I bought the iPhone since around 3 months and since that time so far the battery lives only for around 12 hours without 3G and around 6 hours with 3G and I can bearly listen to music for 2-3 hours max if I turn everything off
while on the website is written:
    Built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery
Charging via USB to computer system or power adapter
Talk time: Up to 8 hours on 3G
Standby time: Up to 225 hours
Internet use: Up to 8 hours on 3G, up to 8 hours on LTE, up to 10 hours on Wi-Fi
Video playback: Up to 10 hours
Audio playback: Up to 40 hours
I called the store that I bought it from and he said it's normal but I believe it's not because for example the standby time with me it's up to 12 hours only and on Apple's website is up to 225 hours
so what's wrong? and does the number of applications I have affect the battery life?
    thanks

People say it has been like this since the iPhone 4.  It was never like that on my 4 or my gf's 4S.  I'm going to exchange at an Apple store.

  • Full charge but still shows only 4 hours

I had fully charged the laptop till 100%
I am now running on battery and it shows time remaining only 4 hours
    why?

First of all which macbook pro are you using? And secondly the time remaining is based on whatever you currently doing with your computer at that time. For example if you are running a CPU intensive app, have the display brightness at max and browsing the net then the time remaining will be less than what apple says. However, if you dim the display, quit all applications and turn the airport off, you will notice a great improvement in the time remaining.

  • SAFARI: running in the background:

When I access a website there is an automatic refresh of the content. When I open a different webpage with Safari, then the automatic refresh on the first page stopps! How can I have a webpage be refreshed in background?
Does Safari download content when it is minimized / not visible?
When I go back to the first page, then the automatic refresh is not there any more. The function has been de-activated by Safari on Ipad. (On a Firefox on windows there is no such problem). How can I get the same webpage behaviour than before. (I know that reloading the page does the job. But this should be automatic and not from the user)

The ipad like a lot of other mobile devices use a type of multitasking that differs from multitasking you would find on Mac OS X, Windows or Linux.  Apple chooses to put most background apps on iOS devices in a suspended mode which allows the application to be paused in the background and then respond quickly when brought to the foreground. Some application functions can continue to run in the background.
Features that are allowed to run in the background are music, location services, airplay, VoIP, push notifications, but it is still up to the developers to make use of this functionality.
I don't believe Safari is one of the applications that will continue to run in the background.
Why does Apple choose to do this? Short answer: Battery life and performance.  If app developers were allowed to choose whether or not to have their application to run in the background, bad programmers would quickly kill the performance and battery on the iOS device.
Some devices such as andriod phones and the blackberry playbook allow broader multi-tasking. The trade off? Andriod phones have task killers, which forces the user to manage their performance and battery life. The playbook comes shipped with a default of using suspended multi-tasking on vs. full multi-tasking - since full multi-tasking would again affect performance and battery life.
I agree it would be nice if webpages continued to load if Safari is in the background, and maybe this will be added / enabled in the future. I think Apples design provides a better user experience and still allows most of the functions to run in the background that need to.  (I don't need a movie to play in the background or game).
My guess would be Safari doesn't allow background use right not because of issues like auto-refresh pages, which again would affect performance and battery.

  • My iPhone 5 battery drain with in 3 hours when I use cellular network on and stand by time is only 2 and half day

I Bought iphone 5 from USA  when I came to India I started it then I noticed the battery stand by time is only 3 days. And when I use cellular data then it is live only for 2 and half hour. I bought this phone in January till now I am having the same problem. I have done all the thing whatever the support center told me about restore and all stuff. After that they told me to visit any apple store but there are no store in India and I'm helpless. For my iPhone only I can't go abroad to that country where stores are. Before I used to believe that apple products are the best but this iPhone has just disappointed me. You know my friend making fun of my mobile because they are using samsung product.
Pleade do some thing for me I have left only 2 month of warranty. other wise I will have to through this on dustbin because everywhere it is insulting me.

Sorry, but the warranty for the iPhone is only valid in the country where you bought the device.
In most of the cases 3rd party apps or settings caused the battery to drain faster than before the new software has been set up. Sometimes the mail app tried to connect to the mail server over and over again, deleting and setting up the mail account can solve this problem.
In other cases social media apps did similar things to the phone.
Here are some suggestions for getting back the normal battery life, maybe they are helpful for your problem with your iPhone 5 as well.

iTunes tells me my song selection: "Could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?"  I can locate it and all my other music, but can only open one song at a time.  How do I set it to open all my music whenever I want?
    Message was edited by: Woildbill

I just spent several hours dealing with this when switching to a new PC. It was extremely frustrating as I knew my files were on my external HD but no matter how many times I copied my old iTunes folder over the files were still missing...because dummy me had forgotten to "unhide folders" on my new PC and my old files were actually stored in a hidden folder created long long ago.
This is how I did it on Windows 7 with iTunes 10
    1. Look in iTunes Advanced Preferences to see where iTunes is saving files. (Edit, Preferences, Advanced)
         Example: C:/Users/Woildbill/My Music/iTunes/Music
    2. Ensure you are able to see hidden files - Control Panel, Folder Option, View, Show Hidden Files
    3. Use Your Computer's Search Function to Locate the Missing File (Start, Search, type name of song - I started my search in "My Music" folder but be sure to expand to entire Computer if not found right away)
    4. In Search Results, right-click found folder and select properties. This will tell you where the file is actually stored.
    5. Use Windows Explorer (right-click start) to navigate to the location of the file. It is likley your other missing files are in the same location.
    6. In Windows Explorer, copy the newly located files to the iTumes location from Step 1 and everything should work again.
    Hope this helps!

  • *Fix* Usage and Standby Times are the same - iPhone 4S 7.0.4

I'd like to share my experience here because I actually found the solution on here but I'm actually having trouble finding it again.
    I had three problems:
    1. My standby and usage times were always reporting the same values, thus draining my battery faster than usual. This is not normal behavior; whenever the screen is off it should report standby times, and after the phone is unlocked it is considered usage. They should never be recording in tangent.
    2. Whenever I would try to turn off my phone by holding down the power button, the phone would basically restart itself, showing the Apple logo boot screen and then restarting. The only caveat was that it would turn off if it was plugged in and being charged. But take it off the charger and try to replicate it turning off and it would restart.
    3. The sound would sometimes think that it was connected to a Dock, so when I went to the Airplay options, they were listed as Dock Connector, Airport Express and Apple TV. There would be no volume slider in the Control Center, and when pressing the volume buttons, there would be no dots, just the bell with a line through it.
Many people might be having genuine battery issues, where you have an older phone and your battery is just really bad and needs to be replaced. My 4S was still under AppleCare in December 2013 and the battery was pretty bad, so I had it replaced in an Apple Store. So for me, the battery life itself was not the problem.
I tried a lot of things to try and fix the above problem but none of them helped. This includes chatting with Apple support (I was surprised they didn't steer me in an obvious direction, considering the large amount of folks who were having these kinds of problems, but they played dumb), restoring fresh and restoring icloud and itunes backups, all kinds of combinations of settings for Mail, iCloud, etc., but nothing worked. I probably restored my phone at least ten times in my troubleshooting efforts. The isolated test of restoring my phone fresh, setting it up to the start screen, making sure the battery was charged 100% and taking it off the charger waiting about 10 minutes. Then I would check standby and usage times.
I had read about fixes for the phone not being able to turn completely off, and it had something to do with cleaning the charging port. I attempted to clean the port with compressed air and other methods, but it never fixed this problem. Then I read a post on Apple Support about a guy who had the exact same problems as I did, then said he changed out his charging port and this fixed it. Well, it was $40 so I paid someone to do it in 45 minutes.
After I got my phone back the problem didn't appeared to be fixed, but after a restore and even with an icloud backup restored with it, I looked down at my phone and presto chango, the times where separate and working as they should. Last night with wifi off while I was sleeping, the battery only went down 3%. I know this is turning out to be a narrative, but I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what the problem was and it was a frustrating process. I'm happy it's resolved.
Apple Support thought it was a corrupt install package from iTunes, or some kind of software glitch or maybe some part of iCloud constantly trying to call home, but it was a combination of both hardware and software. Because of the bad charging port, for some reason the phone thought it was still being used and thus was still treating standby as usage.
I would encourage those that are having this problem to do a test and see if your phone will turn off when you want it to. If it resets automatically and if your standby usage times are the same, replacing the charging port might fix it.

Ever since iOS7.0.6. and still on iOS7.1 both me and my wife had huge battery drain on our iPhone 4S and stand-by was equal to usage time. We finally found the solution to a post of another user on the Dutch Tweakers forum. There seem to be a bug within a certain Dutch coupon app called 'Scoupy' which drained the battery completely although GPS setting was turned of and also 'refresh on background' was off.
Scoupy said that a fix for their app is send for approval to the App Store. We removed the app and our usage/stand-by time is again as normal (higher stand-by time then usage time) and best of all a 'normal' battery use as it was the case on iOS7.0.4. I hope this could help someone. I'm wondering if the iBeacon changes in iOS7.0.6/7.1 together with a bug in the Scoupy app could be the cause? Maybe this is also with our similar apps you have on your phone.

  • Why does my iPhone 5 battery runs dead after only 5 hours in standby?

My brand new iPhone 5 runds completely dead after only 5 hours standby.
I might have done 2 or 3 calls, I switched off all the apps that are running in the background.

I have looked at different blogs and websites and set most of those tips and tricks, but without success... my phone is 1 day old and already synced....
Is there something big that I'm overlooking?

also recalibrate the battery, let if fully drain to where your phone shuts off and then fully charge it without using it.

  • HT4993 when switching from my htc evo to the iphone 4s they said all my photos and videos would transfer over time, but after 6 hours still nothing has transfered.  Anybody have this issue or know what I can do so I won't lose all my pictures and videos

When switching from HTC evo to iphone 4s on sprint service the attendant said all my music, photos, and videos would transfer after some time.  Does anyone know if this is true, or has anyone had this issue happen to them?  It has been 8 hours since the switch and only my contacts transferred right away.

Well i wouldn't see why your photo's, videos and music would trasnfer. As that is a android device, there is no way to have them transfer over the air to the iphone.
Contacts probably came from google. Your videos and such you would have to move them to PC then to the iphone. Same with your music.

  • HELP! New IPhone 4 has 9 hours of standby time!

I've had my iPhone 4 for three weeks. It usually gave me two days under light usage; now, all of a sudden, I only get about 9 hours. Of standby! I used battery doctor to fully charge last nite before I went to bed, and woke up with a 9%  charge, and confirmed that all 9.5 hours since the last charge was on standby. I had long ago done all the tricks:
    Wi-Fi off
Notifications: on for just one app (and haven't changed this setting recently)
    Brightness: about 60%
    Bluetooth: off
Location: on, maps: on, all else off
Mail: FindmyIphone: on; Gmail: on (only mail); Exchange: all on, sync 3 days,
    Fetch new dataff
    Room temperatue: 78 degrees
    Signal: 5 bars, 3G
    # of free space: 13.5GB
Again, without touching the phone (100% standby), and all the above settings, and a full charge, it drained to 9% in just 9.5 hours. Interestingly, I've noticed this turn towards 0 battery life after I downloaded the Pandora app two days ago. I deleted it, but the problem remains. Also, when I scroll through my contacts list, for example, it is very choppy, like something is processing in the background...Please help before I dump this phone on a Verizon store counter....!
    Thanks,

I have an idea for what could be going on, do you close running apps after you are done with them?
Try this, double tap the home button (button with the white square), you should see a bar pop up at the bottom of the screen showing apps that are currently running in the background, hold down one of the apps until they begin to jiggle and you see a red dot on the upper left of the apps, now tap the red dot for the apps you are finished using (don't worry, it will not delete the app from your iPhone), I have noticed if I have less than 2 rows (8 apps, 4 apps per row) that my battery life seems to be pretty good, if I have more than 2 rows of apps running, then my battery tends to discharge much faster
What is happening is whenever you close out of an app, the app still runs in the background, allowing multitasking, the more apps you open in the background, the more apps you have that require processing power, the more prossing power, the more battery needs to be used, this is also why the iPhone may start to get slower the more apps you leave open, as they are competing for processing power, this is one of the reasons why Android phones are known to have such bad battery life, there is no active task manager on Android phones and therefore there is no way to close apps in the background and keep them closed (as the Android OS just wants to open them back up on it's own)

  • I have an iPhone 4s just eight months, it is normal that the battery lasts only 3 hours? please help me thank you very much.

I have an iPhone 4s just eight months, it is normal that the battery lasts only 3 hours? please help me thank you very much.

Three hours if definitely NOT normal. I get at least 48 hours out my 2 year old iPhone 4S' battery with light usage. Did you do the iOS 7 update on the phone it self (OTA) or through iTunes? In my experience most problems are caused by the OTA updates. For this reason I ALWAYS update using iTunes on my computer.
I would suggest restoring your phone using iTunes on your computer and setting it us as a new phone. This downloads a fresh copy of iOS 7.1 from Apple and installs it on your phone. Just make sure that you transfer all purchased items (apps, music, etc.) as well as photos to your computer before restoring as the restore will completely wipe your phone. Do not restore from a back-up. Yes, you will loose all your data on the phone but restoring a back-up can restore the problem you are currently having back to your phone. Once your phone has been restored you can manually sync back your apps and music.
Before restoring you can also check to see that battery-killers like Location Services, Background App Refresh, etc are only turned on for the apps that really need it. I recently read and article that said that the Facebook app can be a real battery killer. If you have this app installed turn of location services and background app refresh for this app and see if that helps. Also go to Settings / General / Restrictions / Location Services / System Services and turn off all the options in that menu. Your phone does not need any of those to function. Constantly using your phone's GPS is a huge battery killer. I only have Location Services enabled for Find my iPhone and Background App Refresh is turned off completely.
    I hope this helps.
