The Start Up "Ding" Sound

When I dont have to use my mini for extended periods, I even unplug it from the wall power outlet. But after that, once I plug it back in and power-on my mini, it starts alright, no problems, everything works just fine, except for one odd behaviour. That is, the peculiar "ding" sound is skipped.
But this is not the case if I restart the computer or even start it after shutting it down PROVIDED the computer remains plugged in the main power outlet. Can anyone explain if its normal?

could this explain it?

Mac OS X 10.4: Startup chime doesn't play on startup
If you wake your Mac from sleep, then shut it down or
restart it before playing any audio or adjusting the
volume, you won't hear the startup chime on your next
startup.
Don't worry. There's nothing wrong with your Mac; it
will start up normally. To ensure that the startup
chime sounds on startup, simply play an audio file or
adjust the system volume after waking your Mac from
sleep before restarting it or shutting it down.
That would probably explain it!! Nice find

My iMac turns on the start up chime sounds, you see the apple icon on the screen and then it just shuts off.  Any ideas?

    Do these two resets:
    SMC RESET
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and ALL peripherals.
    Wait 15 seconds.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.
The 5 second timing is important to a successful reset.
    PRAM RESET
    Zap the PRAM
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • How do I mute the start up 'boing' sound on my IMac (10.6.8)

Hi, I want to mute the irritating boing start up sound but can not find anything in Preferences. Is it possible?

I wouldn't mute it b/c of what Carolyn said, but if you're in a meeting or classroom or other public place you can hold down the mute button while you startup, and if you really want to disable it longer term use something like this http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/16425/startupsound.prefpane.

  • Odd air sound with start of computer sounds

This is a rather odd problem and I haven't seen it covered elsewhere. Please note, this is not a "whine" sound. When the computer is quiet, meaning that no sounds, music, etc. is going on, and you cause the computer to make a sound (for instance, emptying trash) then the computer makes a "whoosh" sound like air is being pushed out of a torn hole or something in the speaker. The sound quality is fine, otherwise I'd think I had a defective speaker. This seems to only be at the start of a sound. In other words, playing movies or music the sound is fine, only when it's quiet does this happen at the very first.
Has anyone else experienced this? Fortatnely, it's a somewhat easy sound to replicate, so if all else fails I can take it in and replicate in front of a mac genius.
This was a problem from the get go, so it did it with virgin prefs.

Just to update this (and hopefully bump it up higher where people might read it again) » I did take this in to the apple store and the gentleman at the genius bar confirmed that I have a problem. His solution was to send my computer in.
This makes me nervous on a couple of levels. The 'pfft' is irritating, but the computer works fine. Read these boards for a while and you'll see a lot of examples of computers that came back even more broken (but different problems) or computers that ended up being repaired for a long amount of time*.
(*Long is relative, but when you use your computer everyday, 2 weeks is a long time.)
Has anyone discovered a fix that doesn't require Apple's 'help' on this? I'm pretty hesitant to send it in for a week or two only to gamble that the computer will come back working better.

  • My iPhone 5s is plugged in. It does not show that it is charging but gives the alert "ding" sound every 15-16 seconds. Does anybody know what could be the problem?

My iPhone 5s is plugged in. It does not show that it is charging but gives the alert "ding" sound every 15-16 seconds. Does anybody know what could be the problem?

It sounds like it starting to charge, then suddenly stops over and over.  This can happen if the cable or adapter is bad or if your charing port has an issue.
Try using a different cable and/or wall adapter.  If the issue continues, it's probably the iPhone.  If it does not continue, then it's the cable or adapter.  Continue to swap to see what's bad.
If you don't have another cable or adapter to test will, take your iPhone and your cable/adapter combo to an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider.  They can help you narrow the issue down and provide service as indicated. https://locate.apple.com/country

  • My iphone 4 started making a sound like "boing" with a vibration/ wobbly sound.  It does it at least once a day.  I've reset my phone, used icloud to restore, and it made the sound again upon startup.  Help!  This is so annoying.

My iphone 4 started making a sound like a "boing" with a vibration/ wobbly sound.  It does this at least once a day.  It started about a month ago.  Anyone got any ideas?

Mine does this also, seemingly randomly several times throughout the day.  I do not have this sound as any of my alerts and it does not seem to denote anything like a message, reminder, etc.  I do have "Trapster" on my phone and I went in and tweaked the settings there.  Will repost if that has any efect.

Try downloading Psst from www.macupdate.com. There is also another, called something like startupchime.prefpane or something like that. Look around macupdate using words like chime and startup chime, and you'll find a way.

If your MBP is under warranty, bring it to an Apple store and have the technicians fix it.  If not, try the steps in this support article:

When I started up my macbook Pro after a boat trip (just lying in my bag the whole time) it started making weird sounds. Why does it do that and how do I stop it?

The 13" retina MBP has two fans, left and right near the hinge and about 2.5" each from the edges of the case.
My conjecture is that one of the fans may be failing.  An appointment at an Apple store genius bar is the best option.  The evaluation will be FREE and a fan replacement (if that is the problem) should not break the bank account.
You might run an Apple Hardware Test:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11342
This may confirm my suspicion or perhaps find a different problem. Note that an error free result should not be viewed as being definitive.
    Ciao.

  • Unwanted sounds when logic plays from the start of the track!!! help!!

i would really appreciate if anybody helps me here!
i have logic rewired with reason. i have numerous tracks and instruments on both
all my drums are in reason and when i play the tracks back in logic i get an unwanted kick and a crash at the point i start the song, this happens anywhere between the count in and the first audio in logic.
whe i play it back from the start in reason i dont get these sounds, only when i play it from logic!
there is definately no loose midi data in reason(as there is no place for it ) and i have had draw a long count out in logic just so the track starts after these sounds have faded away?
    any advise???

    Correction:
This has happened to me lots too, to sessions where I am using a lot of virtual instruments. I don't think you issue has anything to do with ReWire.
I think it has to do with stopping a song before it ends, returning to the start and playing song again. It has to do with lookahead and ram etc ....
The way to avoid this is to back your song start up, or nudge your tracks forward a bit. One bar or less seems to do the trick for me.
    Hope that helps.
    Cheers
    Dee

  • How to deactivate the start sound

how can i deactivate or change the start noisy sound ???

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
I do not recommend you to do it because that's the way your Mac tells you if there's a hardware issue > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5860?viewlocale=en_US
Anyway, if you still want to disable the startup sound, you have two options:
Turn off the speakers before shutting down your computer.
Use an application like StartupNinja to do it (this app does not work with the iMac).
Use Terminal commands to disable the startup sound > http://osxdaily.com/2012/11/04/disable-mac-boot-chime/
