The story of intimidation

Hi there. My name is james and I'm new to arch linux. I have just recently installed arch linux on virtualbox and successfully done so after many times of putting it off saying "This is not for - to many things to fuck up!" Well I did and now I'm really proud of myself (I came into some errors with Xorg configuration wise but looked up some things and bam fixed) I also installed the gnome desktop environment with the gdm login manager - and so far I am loving it. Also the pacman package manager is epic! It's really simple and intuitive - no high learning curve there. I came from Ubuntu and I am sure glad to say that I am going to make the switch (Not on my main computer that has windows; on my new netbook i'm buying.) Well sorry if my ramblings make no sense (I typed this up on the fly..) thanks for reading
EDIT: gonna post the picture of it real quick..

  • My story is working in dvd studio pro but how do I get the track to play with and without the story?

    Hi there,
I've targetted my first button to play all and I've targetted my second button to play all: story 1. The play all option is still playing the same as the play all:story 1 option.
Can someone please help me figure out what I'm missing here. It should be straightforward but something isn't working.
    Many thanks
    Oonagh

Not sure if I explained my problem well at the start.
I have a 1 track dvd and I want two play options. 1 is the play all option, the other is an interactive option where the track will stop at certain points in the dvd. I have created 2 stories for each task. However, I can't alter 1 story without it altering the other story. Therefore for the play all option, when I want to take out the property whereby it stops at certain points in the interactive play option, it takes it out of both stories. If I target the play all button to just the track without any story, it still is linked to the interactive story.
The way I've made the story markers interactive is by putting the playback option to infinite.
I thought I had solved the problem by  deleting the interactive story markers  in the play all story  but now when it plays through, it's not seamless where I removed these chapters and seems to jump a bit at these points.
If anyone can shed some light it would be much appreciated

what is the story on mac vulnerability? Is it serious or not serious?
If serious, why are we not kept informed
If not serious, why is some much anxiety being created?

IMO, it is being greatly over-blown in the media and online.
Man in the middle attacks require the hacker to be connected to the same intranet network that your device is.  Even if they are, unless you go to a secure site and use personal data (like passcodes) they get nothing from stealing your data stream.
If you are at your home, on your own secured intranet, then you really have virtually nothing to fear (as long as your own home network is secured and not wide open to anybody within range).  If you routinely use a VPN connection when on public wifi, again, you are fine.  Or if you use FireFox, Chrome or another browser that implements its own SSL security, then you are fine.
The fact is, that even for those in a particular situation that is vulnerable to such an attack, most are not actually under any such attack - it is not nearly as rampant as the recent hype would have it seem to be.

  • OC4J / OAS 11g - What is the story behind the release?

We are heavily investing in the Java framework known as Seam which is heavily Java 1.5 reliant. As you're probably aware, 1.4 compatibility was added to OAS as of 10.1.3; meanwhile, the OC4J11 has been in technology preview for over a year. With Oracle's acquisition of BEA and other things - does anyone know what the story is behind 11g AS? Will we ever see it? Will Oracle simply re-brand BEA's products as their own? Oracle is quickly falling behind the Java development/deployment gap; how much longer is OC4J11 going to be a "preview" before they give it the go-ahead for a release?
    Thanks.

You can also check thread Re: OC4J 11 / JDeveloper 11g Production Release? - Oracle Support has replied to me that Fusion Middleware 11g that contains OC4J 11g is "still not ready to be released".

  • I want to print the story on a story site but all that gets printed is the home page.

If I go to a site where readers have posted stories I want to print out those stories so I can read them in a comfortable chair and not have to stare at a computer screen. When using Internet Explorer when I click on the story and then hit ctr+p it will print out the story no matter how many pages it is.
When I try that on Firefox all that gets printed is the home page of the site.
By the way, my computer shop installed Firefox the other day so I don't know what version it is.

  • I'm unable to drag-and-drop a script from the Story window in Premiere Pro to a clip

I have a film script visible in the Story window, and I try to drag it to the relevant clip in the Premiere Pro project window—but nothing happens.
I have also tried to attach an astx file, but I get the "matching scene number not found" error, even though I put scene number 1 in the clip and in the astx.
    What am I doing wrong?
Incidentally, though your help indicates that "all the scripts" you have in Story will be visible in the Story Windows in Premiere Pro, I can see only the film scripts—not for instance the multicolumn scripts I also have.  Is there something I can do about this?
    Thanks you,
    PIerre Sauvage

    Hi,
Please make sure that you are performig drag drop with scenes and not complete scripts. You will notice a cursor change when you do so. For more clarification, please refer to this post. 'http://forums.adobe.com/message/5533247#5533247'.
Importing astx is a much longer way to go through the same thing , so i would suggest to try out the drag drop workflow only and let me know in case you still face issues with it.
Also, yes, column scripts wont be visible to you in the Story panel inside Premiere. For this, I am afraid you will have to convert your column scripts into a film script. Let me know if you need help with this.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks

  • OMG, It worked!  The story of my iPod.

(this is a long story of everything that I did wrong... you are free to skip to the last few paragraphs to see how I fixed my iPod)
A few days ago, my iPod stopped working.
I wasn't too surprised. I have a 2nd Gen 20 gig iPod (it is over 3 years old), and I am always expecting my iPod to stop working (if only as an excuse to get a new one).
Any who, by "it stopped working," I mean that it wouldn't mount. When I would plug in my iPod, it would recharge, but not show up on the desktop or in iTunes.
I want to stop now and say that the following story is, shall I say, horrific. I fully admit that I did everything I was supposed to, just in the wrong order. As you read this story, please learn from my mistakes!
As I was saying, it wouldn't mount. So off to this discussion board to try to fix it. One thing people said to do was to reset it by holding down the menu and select button. I did so. The only problem: it was still connected to my iMac. I don't think it liked that, because when I unplugged my iPod, it was in a recursive loop: it showed the Apple logo, and the HD would spin up, and you could hear it "thinking..." then the screen would go blank for a split second, then the logo would appear again, and the HD would spin up... it did this many times.
At this point, I got scared. I don't know why, but I did. Because I installed a new (3rd party) battery last month, not only did I know how to open it, it was already "broken in" (pun intended). So I opened it up and unplugged the battery. whew, it stopped the loop... but with no battery. I pugged back in the battery, and the loop started back up! oops! off came the battery, and when I plugged it in this time, it wasn't in a loop.
OK, so I have already made a few mistakes. Ready for some more?
I plugged back in my iPod, and opened Disk Utility. I tried erasing the iPod, but it got stuck on "partitioning." Then I canceled that (with a great fear that it was going to make me a $500 paperweight) and tried the iPod updater. When I ran the "restore" in the updater, it told me that I needed to run the restore. Weird.
So I tried erasing it again, this time while I was at work, hoping that it would get past the "partitioning" stage. No luck. 5 hours later, still there. So back to the discussion forms, where someone mentioned reformatting it on a PC. Luckily, over the summer I sold my soul to the Devil and bought a PC Laptop (for work, I keep telling people). In goes the iPod. I told it to reformat, and once done, I "restore"ed it from a newly downloaded iPod Software Updater. Things were actually working! I was getting my hopes up!
Out of the PC my iPod goes. I figured that since I had reformatted it on my PC, I would need to reformat it again on my Mac. Nope. I just plugged it in, and it asked me what name I wanted to give it. A few keystrokes later, and iTunes was downloading my song!!!
Joy!!! My iPod is back working again!!! I lost the information that was on it (mostly backup files, a few small things I need), but it was worth NOT HAVING A DOORSTOP!!!
So, if you have a nice, expensive hand warmer, try plugging it into a PC! First, download the iPod Updater. Then, reformat the iPod. Lastly, restore the iPod with the newly downloaded software. You are good to go!
There are two things I want to say:
First: I know that with everything that was going on, I might have missed a few steps or moved a few things around, but the story as a whole is true.
Secondly: I claim no responsibility to my above claims. If this doesn't work for you, don't come crying to me (feel free to say that it didn't work, but NO WHINING!)
    Matthew

OK, so on your new computer, are you logged on with the same iTunes logon that you had on the old computer? If so, then you can go into the iTunes Store on that computer, and re-select each of the songs or albums you had previously purchased (one at at time). Be sure to select the exact same song or album (for instance, if a particular song is available on two different albums, or by itself, be sure that you select the same place you originally selected that song from). Then select the "Buy" button. It will ask for your AppleID password - key it in and press Enter.
iTunes should come back to you and say "You have already purchased this song. Do you want to download it again for free?" Say yes, and it will download your previously purchased song to your new iTunes Library. Once it is downloaded, sync your iPod, and you should be all set!
Note: if it says are you sure you want to purchase it - then you have either selected the wrong "version" of the song/album or have not signed on with the AppleID originally used to purchase that song/album.
    Hope this helps!
    Cheers,

  • WRT54G2 - The story so far

I have closed the thread "WRT54G2 setup and using Linksys software", even though all is still not well, in order to create this summary here in the hope it will help others.
    The story so far:
Following problems with the installation of the WRT54G2 router and the Linksys EasyLink Advisor Software I have:
    1. Downloaded and installed the firmware update 1.0.03.
    2. Followed all the instructions for setting the router back to factory defaults.
    3. Reinstalled the router and the Easylink software.
For some reason on my Avanti Satellite set up the browser address to get into the router setup is 192.168.0.1
I can get to the setup using the Easylink software but I can't use a number of the other  options (like wireless security) as they still give the error message “Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation”. Nice though the idea is in its present state the software has limited use so I have removed it.
I have set up the wireless section via the browser.
So where do I stand now? The router works, however, after about 10 to 15 minutes the wireless section simply disappears. A scan for it shows it no longer exists. My wireless printer is also not available even when connected via the LAN.
The cure is to turn off the router for a few seconds then reboot it. It then works okay for as long as I leave it on. If I turn it off for a long period (overnight) then it will always fail to operate after 10 to 15 minutes, again, but okay for the day after a reboot. Very odd!
I have done more resets, reboots and reinstalls than I have had hot dinners but still end up with the same problems.
For interest I am using a laptop with a Celeron (1.4GHz), 1.5 GB memory, and an ATi mobility Radeon 9700 graphics card and Windows XP home with SP3.
I hope this helps others and someone can up with a cure for the routers odd behaviour.
    Regards

    Hi,
Today I gave up. The wireless side of the router goes off after 10 minutes or so. A reboot brings it on again and it then works okay for the rest of the time (can be on for hours) However, I do not want to leave it perminantly on so I have returned it to the shop where I bought it and changed it for a different make.
    Regards,

  • So... here's the story

So... here's the story. I currently have a mini mac and am looking to buy a mac pro.
But, should I just go out and buy one now, or should I wait till leopard comes out? (which I think is in oct-nov)
    Should I wait?
Is there a big difference between tiger and leopard?
When leopard comes out, I asume the mac pro won't change but the price will go up?
If I go and buy one now, can I later upgrade to leopard when it comes out? (how much would it cost me?)
    Thanks Guys and Gals

    Should I wait?
Based on Leopard alone… no. If you're waiting for a hardware update or the like then that answer might well be different depending on circumstances but even still, it's normally no.
When leopard comes out, I asume the mac pro won't change but the price will go up?
No. When Leopard is released all Mac prices will remain the same with the only difference being hat it will then come with Leopard, just like PCs now come with Vista as the same price.
If I go and buy one now, can I later upgrade to leopard when it comes out? (how much would it cost me?)
Yes you can upgrade to Loepard (after its release of course) when you like, just like the rest of us. The cost is the same as it has been for quite some time, $US129 (or the UK Pound Sterling price plus VAT as you would pay).
Ultimately, what you need to do is decide what you gain by waiting along with what you lose by waiting. To me, having the power of a Mac Pro over a Mac mini, even if it's an Intel model, for 4 months from now until October is worth the price of the Leopard upgrade on its own.
Additionally, depending on your experience with largers systems like the MP the time from now can really help you get your house in order before jumping into Leopard. There's quite a bit to mull over when it comes to 4 drive bays (and all you can do with that) and 8 RAM slots not to mention Boot Camp thrown in.

  • What's the story on Story CS6?

From what I see on the Web site, Story CS6 was supposed to be part of the Master Collection. But on the box, the references to Story are covered over with black tape.
What's the story on Story? Is it coming later as a download? Or did it die? Or ... ?

I don't think it's in the Master Collection, but I saw it listed on one page as being available for download from the Creative Cloud. I suspect it will be offered at some later time, although I couldn't find a reference for when.

  • 2.7 GHz PowerMac done in by leaking cooling system. THE REST OF THE STORY

This is the story of what happened when my PowerMac went down for the count. I'm posting it because Apple did a such stellar job at resolving a thorny service problem.
I had a Dual 2.7 GHz PowerMac G5 (purchased back in November 2005) that was a major headache all this year. It quit working entirely in March after months of crashes, corrupted drives, and loudly spinning fans. As I was putting the Mac into a box to take it to the local Apple Store for troubleshooting, I noticed a small puddle of what turned out to be coolant. I'd heard the cooling systems on these Macs wasn't very reliable and costly to fix, so I figured it would have to be trashed. Sure enough, when I got to the Apple Store, it was still leaking and the Genius said it would cost upwards of $1000 to fix.
I wasn't happy to hear that, but what could i do? It was out of warranty.
I bought a new 27-inch iMac as a replacement and went back to work. While on the way, I started wondering if I could fix the Mac myself as a hobby project. At work, I posted a question on Apple's Discussions describing what had happened to the Mac and got these replies:
+You should have posted - and looked - on the PowerMac G5 forum, and read up on theG5 Coolant Leak report, and how to deal with it. So check out the Discussion and http://www.xlr8yourmac.com report on the issue (under Systems).+
    +http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/systems/G5coolantleaks.html+
    and
+Read the xclr8yourmac link and call Apple Customer Service. They replace a lot of leakers with new MacPros if you say there is a fire or electrocution hazard. Read and learn.+
So I checked out the xlr8yourmac site and was shocked. I had no idea how much leaking had occurred, but after seeing photos of the damage to other Macs, the possibility of mine having caught fire while unattended gave me the willies because I'd been leaving my Mac running during the day so the Tools app could run thorough tests.
I called Apple support and told the rep how upset I was over a potential safety problem that was not mentioned on the Support website. He transferred me to Customer Relations where that rep made arrangements for me to get the Mac serviced.
I returned the iMac and gave them the G5 for repair. Two weeks later, I got the Mac back. They had replaced the rear exhaust fans and cable, the power supply, SuperDrive, 2.7 GHz multiprocessor, power supply cover, and the computer enclosure.
In short, they gave me back a resurrected G5 for no charge!
And that was a happy ending that lasted all of five months, during which the fans slowly increased in volume and CPU temps crept higher.
Last month everything went weird. The Mac would go to sleep in the middle of file transfers, sometimes it would hang on restart, and other faults. I called Apple Tech Support and set up a service appointment at the Apple Store.
A week later, I had shelled out $250 for a replacment video card (which seemed strange because video had been about the only thing that hadn't been malfunctioning!) and, fingers crossed, took the Mac home.
It ran worse after the service than before! Fans were screaming, it would crash at the Finder or hang after restart, often wouldn't recognize the Leopard DVD, etc. (But hey, at least video still worked!)
I was getting frustrated at this point, so I called Apple again and worked with a higher echelon tech who told me to reset the PMU switch. It seemed to work, the fans quieted and the machine restarted without hanging. But it seemed dog slow, so I checked Activity and found that one of the CPUs wasn't working.
Another call to Apple where the really helpful tech said it was probably a logic board (the one component that hadn't been replaced already!) and that I should take it in so they could determine if that was the problem. If it was, he would see about tying the repair to the previous service since it was likely that the logic board had been damaged by the coolant leak.
I took it in for repair last Saturday, keeping fingers crossed that this time they'd fix the machine. On Friday, I got a call from them saying that they had "stripped some screws" while performing the service, so the computer couldn't be reassembled. At first I was stunned by the news--now what?!
It got better: As compensation, they replaced my 5-year-old Dual 2.7 GHz PowerMac G5 with a brand new 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Mac Pro G5! Gotta hand it to Apple, they did what it took to resolve a maddening problem with one of their products in a way that left me feeling I'd been treated fairly.

Wow! Can't believe they'd give you a new machine on that 5 year old paper weight! Though it was a design flaw. Did you have Apple Care? Just wondering in case mine does it.
I've never had any trouble with my dual 2.5, bought it new in early '05 when the 2.7 came out. I've added memory and larger drives. I've had a problem with a dvd drive I put in it. It would not release the disc on the first eject, if it was a DVD. It's definitely the drive since I now have it in a different machine and it does the same problem. Now I have a Dual Layer burner from a 2.3 dual core.
Other problem I've had with it was a Radeon 9200 card I put in it to get a third display never worked right. I had ATI replace it at least twice and I think it's just a design flaw with the G5. It would stutter on the connected display, slow response time and if iTunes was running the sound would pop.
Removing the card fixed it so the card is back in the box. I'm guessing it would work fine in a G4. But yeah, all problems with 3rd party stuff.
Other than that, no cooling problems or anything else.
I did some speed tests between my 2.3 DC and the 2.5 and the 2.5 is noticeably faster. About a gigaflop. Faster memory on the 2.3 and graphics but slower processor and system bus.
I'm guessing the 4 fastest G5's are the Quad 2.5, then the Dual 2.7, Dual 2.5, then 2.3 DC.
