The Subtitle or menu subpicture is too complex !

I am running Encore version 2.0 and almost completed a project. The final stage is to add subtitles. When I try to create an iso file or burn to DVD, the encoding process goes OK until it comes to encoding subtitles. It then comes up with "The subtitles or menui sub-picture is too complex to be encoded" and gives up.
I have tried replacing the subtitle text for the clip that seems to have the problem. When the text is removed, all is OK. When I re-type the text for the clip, the problem returns.
Anyone any idea what the problem could be?
I am running Windows XP with a 3GHz processor and 2GB RAM
Thanks in advance
Chris Walsh

The quickest solution would be to split up the offending subtitle. E.g. if it was originally
i "The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog"
for 10 seconds, change it to 5 seconds of
i "The quick brown fox jumped..."
followed by
i "...over the lazy dog"
for the remaining 5 seconds.

  • Subtitles too complex to render (CS6)

    Hello
We have a problem that many other users seem to have too:
I'm building a DVD with two subtitle tracks (english and german). When I tried to build the .iso-file, I always got the error message "The subtitle or menu subpicture is too complex to be encoded". So I was reading about the problem on the web and tried some stuff, and somehow, Encore destroyed my file. Encore always crashed as soon as I edited something on the subtitle track.
So I decided to rebuild the whole menu (about 2 days of work). After I've rebuild the menu, I tried to build the .iso-File before I imported the subtitles. Then it worked. So it was clear that it was something with the subtitles.
So I re-imported only one of the subtitle tracks with the following settings:
I changed the values of the display area because some people wrote that It worked after they made the subtitle display area smaller. But when I then tried to build the .iso-file, I got the error message about too complex subtitles again.
I have some subtitles with two lines. So I deleted all the two-line-subtitles and tried to build the .iso-file again, but it still did not work. I then deleted all the subtitles that contain more than about eight words. I tried to build the iso-file again and IT WORKED!!!
But that can't be a solution! Or do I have to split a sentence like "You know exactly the cops are trying to set us up!" in two seperate subtitles? That would make it a pain in the *** to read the subtitles!
What does Adobe say about that? What can/should I do? I lost already several weeks of my life with this problem (and nobody will pay me for that time)!
By the way: Will Encore be discontinued or is there a CC version coming? I'm wondering why Encore's latest version is still CS6.
    Thank you for your help!

Not all users seem to have this issue. So I keep thinking there must be a workaround. But there are users who never find one. I don't do enough subtyitles to have any good troubleshooting for a deadline like this. There is often a subtitle creation software involved in subtitle issues.

  • Subtitles too complex error - in PAL subtitles only

I have a project that is going to be authored in both PAL and NTSC. It has subtitles in six languages.
On the NTSC one, everything burns fine.
On the PAL one, I get an error when burning saying "subtitle or menu subpicture too complex."
We have the same subtitle scripts being used in both, and the menus are the same beside the difference in dimensions (I think there is probably some slight movement of button position). The dimensions for the subtitle cells entered in the PAL version are actually slightly smaller in height, but the same width as the NTSC.
NTSC, I have the dimensions of the subtitle boxes set to:
    92 628
    325 445
    PAL:
    112 608
    450 525
I am in the process of narrowing down which subtitle tracks are causing the errors, but does anyone have any insight into why this would happen only in the PAL version when both are using the same subtitle scripts?

sorry - two things I forgot to mention: CS4 and Mac OS 10.5.8

You can't refine a PDQ/saved query where there is an OR expression between multiple fields.
The simple reason: Siebel can't display it on the GUI.
You can refine it if the OR expression is just an OR between entries in the same field.
([First Name] ~= "John" OR [First Name] ~= "Joe") AND [Last Name] ~LIKE "Doo"
    can be refined
([First Name] ~= "John" OR [First Name] ~= "Joe") OR [Last Name] ~LIKE "Doo"
    can't be refined.

  • 'Menu too Complex' Error with Simple Subtitles

    Hi,
I am buildling a DVD with the option to turn subtitles on and off.  I have built what I thought was a pretty simple configuration to achieve. See diagram and error message below.  I have successful bult a similar disc, a blu-ray, with significantly more complexity and content with no problem. I am trying to build a similar, simple subtitle centric structure for 3 individual video products, but each project I create fails to build the disc in the end with the same error message. Any suggestions?
I am using CS6 on a Windows7 PC platform. Encore v. 6.0.2.004. Can provide more specs as necessary.
    Thanks!
    Lindsay

Based on other threads, it is not the navigation, but the subtitle formatting (margins or fonts or such). Margins must be adjusted upon import.
I have not tested any of these solutions.
This is the one that seemed the most likely to work:
    http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/145/865932#870828
    Dave Knop said:
"You make the adjustments upon importing the file.
If you created your subtitles within Encore, the only way I know to see the full list of settings is this:
Select a subtitle track on your timeline and from the top menu, click Timeline > Export Subtitles. Save the file. Now with that same track selected on your timeline, Re-import the file.
    (Timeline > Import Subtitles )
Upon import of this file you should see the FULL range of Subtitle setting options in the menu. The margins will be the numbers defaulted at (72 648)/(48 432) The 72/648 numbers are the left and right margins that seem to cause the error.
Setting them to 92 (left) and 628 (right) has worked for me."
    Please let us know.

  • Subtitles too complex , copy subtitles?

I am putting 4 graduation ceremonies onto separate DVDs. I put the subtitles into one of the ceremonies using Encore,(time consuming I know but not in a serious time crunch yet).Outputted to DVD and everything is great. Seeing how the speeches are basically the same between ceremonies replaced 1st ceremony asset with 2nd ceremony asset, moved subtitles to
sync up and changed content on some (for adlibs and miss speaks, can't anyone stick to a damn script).Had to move large sections of subtitles due to change of order of speakers. Check project and is fine. Start burning DVD and after transcoding video get to subtitles section and it stops telling me the subtitles are too complex. Any suggestions? Will lassoing and copying subtitles and pasting into new project work?

"Subtitles or subpictures too complex to build." error message. Encore CS4, Win XP.
I wrestled with this, even attempting to delete cached files until my original project wouldn't load. I rebuilt the project and all the navigation in a new project, and reimported all the subtitles, blocking them as before. I got the same error message on build. After seeking advice online I tried narrowing my left and right text field margins in the subtitle import dialog to 100 and 620. Same error on build.
I built a new test project, importing one subtitle track at a time without modification onto a new timeline with my project's video. That was OK on build. I modified 2 of the subtitles in the same way as before, making the typeface smaller. That build was rejected with the original error message. I returned the typeface size of that page to the original size. That built ok. I tried squeezing the text aspect for the one page to get the blocking I wanted. That build was rejected. I returned the text aspect to normal but re-blocked the page to get the text to at least fit, even though it wasn't the layout I wanted. (I took some of line 1 in French and moved it to line 2.) That built. I am cutting my losses and letting the blocking go for that language, on that page.
Bottom line: it appears that you can't mix typeface sizes in subtitle tracks, at least in my single experience. I did find another post that claimed that making a larger outline on the text also can remove the error on build, but I found that out later, so didn't get to test it.

  • The subtitles are too small on ATV2

the subtitles are too small on ATV2, at the movies I rent, it is not possible to enjoy the movie and read the text at the same time, what makes Apple here???

I have the same problem, changing it to large in the Accessibility menu makes them too large and annoying. I hope Apple fixes this soon!

  • CS6 3D error (bug?) "Could not complete your request because the path is too complex."

I'm running into a bit of a problem with having a shape extruded in 3D.
If I draw a rectangle shape set to path over an image and then choose "source - work path" and "3D extrusion" I will get a 3D rectangle with the image on the front side.
If I draw a 3 sided polygon (triangle) set to path over an image and then choose "source - work path" and "3D extrusion" I will get a error telling me that the path is too complex.
I'm doing the exact same thing.
Now, if I have 4 sides plus, on the polygon it will extrude just fine.
Something seems to be happening with 3 sided polygons.
This holds true with the pen tool as well. Three points will give you the error, 4 and above seem not to.
Any ideas and to why this is happening?
    Thanks!

    Work around. (CS6)
    (1) Draw your trangle shape.
    (2) Convert one of the corners to a smooth corner (just barely). If you doesn't work, bend flex it a little more, and try again.
    (3) 3D/New 3D extrusion from selected layer.
    (4) Switch camera to top view.
    (5) With 3D layer selected, in the coordinates menu of Properties panel, set X angle to 90.
    (6) Snap object to ground plane.
    (7) Set depth to 0.
    (8) In the Cap menu of the Properties panel, adjust cap width to 100%.

  • Subtitles are too complex.

I' am making a DVD using all image files from CaptionMax. See post from yesterday:
    stevenl, "Image Subtitles." #1, 10 Apr 2006 4:34 pm
Anyway in just a test of the whole subtitle thing I only imported 1 subtitle track and tried to burn a folder and/or image file and got a message telling me that my one track is too complex. I'm going to need seven more, so if you think it's complex now??? All I did is set my first play to Timeline 1 with the one track set to display. Now, I have another timeline in the project that I set as the end action of the first with its track set to display. Can there be an issue in that the two timelines are different aspects 1 is 16x9 and 2 is 4x3?
I don't think that my problem should be anything related to this thread:
    ivansull, "EncoreDVD 2.0 Subtitles" #10, 21 Mar 2006 10:46 pm
since my subtitles are all index .tif files that are already as small as they're going to get. I've also used these type of files in our Sonic DVD Fusion system many times and never had this kind of issue.
I've read about other Encore issues with subtitles, but most of them seem related to text subtitles, what issues (if any) are there with image files?
    Thanks,
    Steven

    Steven,
The "too complex" error is probably the one mentioned in post #5 of the "EncoreDVD 2.0 Subtitles" thread. This is not an Encore issue, but a limitation set by the DVD-Video specification. It doesn't matter whether the subtitles are imported via a text script or as bitmap images; if any (horizontal) line exceeds 1440 bits it exceeds the spec maximum.

  • The subtitles are too tall and skinny (4 lines) and separate words

Whenever I watch a show and I have the subtitles on they will be in the bottom centere and take up sometimes 4 lines up into my screen and seperate words
    Example:
    Inexu
    sable!

  • Could not complete the new 3D extrusion because the path is too complex

I'm using Photoshop CS6 in Windows 7 64bit. I've seen other posts about a bug if you are trying to complete a 3D extrusion when a triangle is present, but my issue seems even more basic.
I'm drawing a simple wave shape with the pen tool set to shape, no fill, 1px stroke. I'm simply drawing three points to create a simple sine wave - the idea being to create a wavy piece of 35mm film. The image size is quite big - 6000 x 4000 px. The first time I did it, the rendering worked fine but I didn't like the curve I had drawn, so I stepped back and tried again. Now, whatever I do, I get the "Could not complete because the path is too complex" message.
Is this a known bug and are there any workarounds to create a single pixel wide wavy shape in 3D that looks like a piece of film.
    Steve

I have run across this also, but my path was more complex.  As far as creating a single pixel wavy shap, I would use the depth map 3D feature of  converting a depth map to a plane.  Create a gradient in 32bit mode, so the transistion are smooth, and then go to the 3D menu and select new mesh from depth map>plane.  You can later go in and edit the depth map to tweak it.

  • Max number of caracters in subtitles in Encore? Trying to avoid "Subtitle too complex to render"

Does anyone know what the max number of caracters in a single Encore subtitle "string" is if you want to avoid the "Subtitle too complex to render" error message?
I have a project with one subtitle layer, concisting of 483 "subtitle strings" in it and i'm getting the "...too complex..." message when rendering.
But instead of spending endless hours of trying to guess which one(s) cause the problem, i'd love to have an answer like "Don't ever tap in more than XX caracters in a single subtitle"
And now we are at it:
I'm let to believe that the distance between the individual "subtitle strings" also can release the "...too complex..." message. Any clues as to what the minimum number of frames has to be between the individual "strings" in order to avoid the error message (the project in question is a "classic" DVD-project - not BluRay)?
    Thanx in advance.

Well, just in case anyone else is stuck with the same problem and comes across this old string: After several tests I have come up with this solution that works for me - and perhaps for others too:
Notice that the subtitle borders are set differently than the default settings. The settings I use keeps the subtitle string just inside the outer safe area border where as the default settings are inside the inner safe area border and thus resulting in shorter subtitle lines.
You can choose a different typeface and size if you like. These matters doesn't seem to have much influence on the "_too complex_" issue.
With these settings I can write a maximum of 60 characters, including spaces, per line. Remember to make forced line breaks between the lines, if your subtitle string is longer than one line. Otherwise Encore will see what appears to be two lines as one long line exceeding the max number of characters and thus resulting in a "_too complex_" error.
And as for number of frames between subtitle strings: Minimum 5 frames - but Encore will automaticly warn you if you place text strings closer than that.

  • Could not complete the new 3D extrusion from selected layer command because the path is too complex.

I was trying to do a photo of mine like in this video but its not working help needed. thanks.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egyLY78H7nE
When I tried the 3D I got an error message that said (could not complete the new 3D extrusion from selected layer command because the path is too complex.) what does this mean and how can i fix it?

There was a bug at one time where really simple paths (like a triangle, for example) could cause that error.
Is your path really simple (I don't plan to go watch the video)?  If so, have you installed the latest update for Photoshop?  That bug may have been fixed already.
If it's not that, it's possible that if your path is really complex and simply exceeding Photoshop's capability.

Hi the fnt size in the menu bar is too small (unreadable). How can I increase the font size. I have a new Samsung PC with high resolution screen.

You must mean Photoshop Elements 11, not Photoshop.
There is no ability to change the size of the menu font in PSE 11.
