The system upgrade problem: NOW all my apps are gone

The same problem I'm seeing other people discussing, the screen has the iTunes hookup graphic.  I hooked it up to my mothership iMac, it forced me through some restore iPad process, which FINALLY worked.  And now the iPad has not one of the dozens of apps we've installed in the last 7 months.
Any

I had the same problem. It's really aggravating. I don't know what is going on. Some info was saved after restore, but my apps and music was gone. I did sync-before my restore. What a big headache! The only reason I did a restore in the first place is because none of me apps would open.I had to restore, then one problem became another....I lost my apps and music. Now I have to view my "purchase history" to get my stuff back.

  • I just updated my iPad to the newest software, but now all my apps are gone.

I saw the apps transfer to my computer in iTunes; how can I get them back to my iPad?

Unfortunately - no there isn't. Safari uses tabs in iOS 5. If you are so inclined, the iCab Mobile browser still offers the thumbnail view. I use iCab mobile all the time. IMO it is far superior to Safari.
Get the hang of iOS 5 and using Safari with tabs and it may not bother you at all. Some users just hate the fact that thumbnails went away in iOS 5 and you can keep iCab Mobile in mind if you really want thumbnails back.

  • Upgrade iPhone to the new OS4 and now all my contacts are gone

I took the new OS4 update and now all my contacts are gone! I tried restoring from a previous backup and they're still not there!
    This is very disturbing.
What can one do to restore their contacts (that should have never been deleted in the first place)?

I’ve contacted a friend that works for Mac; He is a bit of a genius. Apparently when you reboot there will be a copy of your backed up phones details from before you installed the new software. I'm currently trying this and just pressing ok to all of the error messages. Looking at the screen on itunes that displays the usage, over time it’s filling up more and more. Maybe also give it a go and see if second time lucky things come back, especially all those contacts. Ill let you know how I go.... I’m definitely considering blackberry after this and I have been an iPhone devotee from the start!! NOT HAPPY JAN

  • Crash during sync, now all my apps are gone.

My laptop and iphone crashed during a sync. Laptop would lock up as soon as the phone was plugged in, and the phone started random reboots and freezes.
I reinstalled WinXP and itunes on the laptop, but still could not sync. The phone would come up "sync in progress", but then nothing happened. Left it sit overnight, and sync still would never complete.
Restored the phone to factory settings, and now everything seems fine. Only problem is that all of my downloaded apps are gone. I can see the history where I purchased them in the itunes store but they are not in itunes. If I try to reload them it wants me to pay for them again. Is there any way to recover previously purchased apps?

You can re-download purchased apps for free. Click on buy, click yes to I want to purchase, another popup will appear, you have already purchased, do you want to re-download, click yes.

  • I just updated the new iTunes and now all my playlists are gone!! What the heck?!

All my playlist are gone from itunes with the new update. If I click on "sync" it asks me to erase all my music and videos... Is there a way to avoid doing this? Thanks.

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
In the unlikely event that your media has been wiped from your computer see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

  • I restored my phone from a previous back up and now all my apps are gone. Any idea on how to get them back?

I had liquid damage to my phone and had to receive a new one so I went home to restore it to its old settings from my back up on 5/8/11. I've had an iphone since 2008 so I have a lot of data and apps saved on to my computer, many of which I paid for. When my back up finished all my music, contacts, photos were restored but none of my apps. Can someone please help me get them back? Thank you!

After you restore from backup, you MUST sync to restore your iTunes content. No iTunes content is included in the iPhone backup. Your apps should be in your iTunes library, just sync them back to your phone. If for some reason your apps are not in your library, you can re-download them for free:

    Hey ramsrocket,
To get back those apps, follow these directions:
    Tap App Store.
Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID used for the original purchase.
    Tap Updates.
Tap Purchased on the resulting screen.
Locate the app in your Purchased tab.
    Tap the download icon.
The app will begin downloading and you'll be taken back to your home screen.

  • Clean install... and now all my apps are gone!

I just did a clean install on my MBP and planning on doing a new Time Machine-backup over my old one (thus in fact deleting the old Time Machine). I haven't yet restored my user folder and documents (they're safe). Obviously my iPhone apps aren't restored in the user folder and documents.
I have so many apps... how can I get all of them back on iTunes?
I haven't connected my iPhone 4 to my MBP yet, afraid it'll synchronize the new state over the old one and thus lose everything!

    heres what to do:
    1. hook up your phone to your MBP
    2. In itunes right click on your phone in the bar on the left
    3. choose transfer purchases.
this will transfer your apps back to your computer

  • HT201210 I just downloaded ios7, but now all my apps are gone. What can I do?

I downloaded IOS7, but I lost all of my purchased apps and most of my music.  The only apps on the phone are the ones it came with.  Is there any way to get them back?

    Hi Catman1960,

  • I updatediPhoto today, and now all my pictures are gone

I updatediPhoto today, it was trying to convert my old iTunes Library(2), it was about 25% done, and then it just disappeared. I cant find the old Library (iPhotolibrary2) anywhere.  It seems it got thru the conversion partially, and now all my pictures are gone. I can find iPhoto Library, but not iPhotoLibrary2, which has all my photos on it

Are you confusing iPhoto and iTunes on there?
Easiest solution: restore from the back up you made prior to upgrading.

  • I cleaned up my mac and now all my applications are gone. I try to open them and it has a question mark on the app icon. Everything from System prefrences, Everything in itunes, iphoto, preview and mail? Please help

I cleaned up my mac and now all my applications are gone. I try to open them and it has a question mark on the app icon. Everything from System prefrences, Everything in itunes, iphoto, preview and mail? Please help

These question marks are on your dock? And you can't open applications from your dock?
If so, try this: Open a new finder window and navigate to the Applications folder in your hard disk. The applications in question should still be in there (the Applications folder). So drag each of the application icons that you want to be available on your dock from the Applications folder onto your dock, one by one. Take each of your question mark icons that are on the dock and drag them off the dock to get rid of them. See if that fixes you up.
Now, if your hard disk no longer has an Applications folder in it, or the Applications folder is empty, you are going to have to reinstall OS 10.6 then do a software update to bring you back up to OS 10.6.8. You may be able to just go to the "optional installs" folder on the installer DVD and maybe all the stock applications are there -- I don't remember and I don't have an installer DVD handy to look. That would be way easier than doing a full blown OS reinstall. Also, as I recall, if OS 10.6 was on the computer when you bought it from the store, I think there should be an "extras" DVD that has a handful of applications that could be reinstalled from it, too.
