Let's try something relatively simple. Download and save a copy of the installer to your hard drive (don't run the install on line and don't start the install just yet):

Now right-click on the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) that you downloaded and select "Run as administrator".
Does that go through any better for you?

If your all clear then create another Admin, transfer your files over from the first Admin.
See if that works, eventually when your totally over to the new Admin, delete the old one.
If you can't create a new Admin, find out who locked your machine down, like your parents or it's a school computer?
Likely installed spyware or "nanyware" to watch you.

I am trying to download iTunes on my new desktop computer (Windows 7, 64 bit). It starts installing, and then stops with the message- "The System Administrator has set policies to prevent this installation." This is a stand alone computer and I am the sole user. Please help.
This is a Microsoft Windows Issue.

While trying to sync my husband's new iPad 2 to our computer, I encountered the following problem.
I currently have iTunes 10.1.1.4 installed on my computer but was told to update to the latest version of iTunes 10.2.2.

After contacting Apple, Toshiba and Microsoft and following instructions from each of their tech support agents, I am still not able to uninstall iTunes as they all advised me to do.

I am using my partners computer. He has iTunes on his laptop but when I went to update iTunes, it said "the system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation". I therefore deleted iTunes altogether thinking to reinstall the original iTunes and then upgrade it (i,e start from scratch) but to know avail. Is this a problem with my laptop itself? Or a problem with the internet settings?

when installing itunes on mums sony vaio with vista home edition. a message saying "the system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation" pops up not allowing the installation to continue. had a quick look on other forums and the general concensus is that the settings that need changing are deep in the technical parts of the computer which im not prepared to go to. has anyone else had any problems like this and is there an easy way to fix it!?

I have always installed previous upgrade versions of iTunes with no problem. I'm the single user and the administrator of this stand-alone computer (not in a network). When I try to install iTunes 8 I get the "System Administrator has set policies to prevent this installation" (apparently a security measure to prevent installation of malicious software). That's something set in your operating system. I googled "set policies to prevent this installation" and there are many, many hits on this and it's not just iTunes that doesn't get installed. You need to fix your OS permissions.

Adobe product, so I don't think we can be of much use here.
However, I would suggest talking to your systems administrator to
change your settings to allow the Reader update as this can only be
done on your side and not from anywhere else.
