The type tool is not working

I upgraded from PSE9 to CS5 and I can no longer view any of the fonts or use the type tool in either program. What do I need to do to fix this issue? Thanks for any help! Cindy

In case you have not fixed this, take a look at your Image Size (Ctrl Alt i). The default when you make a new document window is 72ppi which can result in smaller text than you sometimes expect. If you open Image size, turn off resample, and change the resolution to something like 300, you'll get much larger type for the same settings.
For this reason one of the first things I do after installing Photoshop, or resetting Preferences, is to open Preferences > Units & rulers, and set Type to mm. This way I know that if the document is set to A4, and orientated in landscape (297mm x 210mm) setting text to 21mm is going to result in type exactly one tenth the height of the document.
I believe people in America still use inches, but unfortunately inches are not an option for Type units in Preferences. It is easy enough to work it out in your head though. A 10x8 document with type set to 25mm will give you text one eighth the height of the document.
The bottom line is you can at least predict what is going to happen when setting text size.

On a mac the type tool will not display when i double click on the type button in the layers panel

I figured out the issue. The Text Tool was displayed but it was off the bottom of the screen. I had to resize the window from the bottom to display the Text Tool. To do so I had to move the dock to the left and then learn that by using the Option key it is possible to change window size on both edges.

Install the CC Desktop app, or try Help > Updates....
If all else fails, you can try Crash | Launch, selecting Type tool, but there are other bug fixes in the update.

Elements 10 the blur tool does not work

The blur tool does not work at all.
How do you activate this feature.

First try to reset "All Tools" by clicking on the down-arrow icon as shown in this picture:
Look at the top left corner high-lighted in red box (if you can't see the picture then click on it to magnigy).

Type tool suddenly not working in PS CS2

Hi,
I just loaded a new font (playbill) and suddenly the type tool is no longer working. There is no cursor visibly (just a dot) and when I type nothing appears. But PS allows me to try to warp the invisible text as if something is there. Opening an earlier Photoshop CS I can use the type tool and the recently added Playbill font.
Any ideas what's causing my lack of type tool functionality, and more importantly, how to get it back?
Done a restart and still a problem.

hi, I've tried that, resolved some duplicates and removed a couple of problem fonts but still no luck with CS2. I also removed the newly added fonts but still no joy. Shut down and restarted. I have 205 fonts.
Would you suggest i reinstall CS2? Or can the fonts be reset? I'm not sure how fonts interact with CS2, especially when CS can handle them okay. A pathway has been corrupted possibly?

Type tool does not work in Illustrator CC

I am using Illustrator CC under a subscription on windows 8. When I go to use the type tool it does not type. I will click on it, create a box or double click to have the horizontal blinking text line show up. When it shows up this time it is a dot and does not show type on screen. So for example I would be sitting here typing this message, but you would not be able to read it as it does not show up on screen.
Really want this fixed or want to know how to fix.

The Text Tool is not working in Photoshop CC

When I try to use the text tool nothing happens when I type even though the font size is 12, and the color is black, on a white background, and then when I try to get out of the text tool a progress bar shows up that says "Rendering type", and the progress bar is not done until for 15 minutes later. After that no text shows. I tried to wave the text tool cursor over where I used it previously, and the cursor does not detect any text in the area.
This is a brand new install of photoshop, I haven't done any customizations to it.
My operating system is a Mac with OS X 10.7.5.
Things I tried already:
- I tried uninstalling, and reinstalling Photoshop CC, and Creative Cloud.
- I tried changing font size, color. Each took 15 minutes because of the rendering type progress bar.
- I tried changing to main fonts like Verdana, Arial, etc.
- I did the steps on this Font troubleshooting page:

These were the steps on that page:
- Make sure Photoshop is the most recent version.
- Turn font preview off.
- Remove specified fonts known to cause trouble.
- Empty the photoshop font cache
- Empty the operating system font cache
- Try removing all but one font on the Mac, and keep rest in another folder.
- Use their font test script.
Now the only font I have in my Mac Fonts folder is Arial.ttf
I did all these things, and the problem still happens. Every other tool is working for me though! I need to use photoshop for a graphic design job I need to get done. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I found out the problem! When I pressed "File" > "New" to make a new document I typed in 1000, but I'm used to the measurements being in pixels, not inches. The new install had it in inches lol. The canvas was humungous! Once I set it back to a smaller size the text tool worked great! I feel silly I over looked that!

The eyedropper tool does not work with a hue saturation adjustment layer

I am using PS CC 2014, and the problem I am having is that when I want to use the eyedropper tool to adjust the colour range affected by a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer, rather than selecting the colour in the Properties window for the adjustment layer, use of the eyedropper closes the properties window and changes the foreground colour in my palette.
Here's the real hitch... the same thing happened to me at school last night where a) the Mac's are older and b) CS6 is still used.
It's something with my user settings, to be sure, because the prof logged into his account on the Mac I was using in class to test it out, and it worked for him; we logged back into my account and it still did not work for mine.
Any ideas?

Indeed Trevor, that did solve the problem. Clearly it was something I changed... wish I knew what. But, I have a list of all the settings changes I made before, so I can figure it out by making one at a time then checking...

The Split tool is not working for me?

I need to split one shot into two or maybe more shots.
I where choosing the split tool and I mowed it down to
the timeline, and I mowed the pointer down to the Timeline
and I where clicking in a point in the shot. The same working
procedure as I normally do when I´m working with FCP.
I have no idea of what`s wrong, but I really ned to find the
solution.

If you did this inside a "Send To..." workflow you just completely hooped the XML return trip.
Do not use the "Split" tool unless it is in a non-FCP workflow, and even then it might be better to synthesize that action with a keyframe.
Do not attempt to edit anything in COLOR.

The readOutLoud tool is not working why is this happening?

i need help using this tool, the reading tool, when i try to activate it in the VIEW menu, and then selecting "read only this page" only generates an error or the program shut down. i have installed already the complemet for reading but its still not working i have the 10.1.7 version.
When i check in the help menu, the option "about plug-in in adobe" says tha the readaouloud.api is not loaded, but i just cant find where to activate it.

Help! The liquify tool is not working as expected in Photoshop CC.

I have used CS5 for a couple years and used the liquify tool very frequently without issue. I subscribed to Photoshop CC 2 weeks ago and have been having this problem with the tool:
When I use Bloat, Pinch or Reconstruct, it seem to over-do its function and completely distorts the photo, even with a single click. If I move the cursor even a millimeter, the whole image gets sucked into a blank circle the size of the brush. See examples (I used Bloat for these):

I have tried adjusting the brush density, brush rate. I have reloaded Photoshop several times. I searched online for a solution and tried the "Kelby trick" by pressing Shift while starting up Photoshop. None of those work. I have only had CC for two weeks and have not changed any settings (except increased history states to 99) and have not installed any plug-ins or anything.
Any ideas how to fix this? It used to be one of my favorite tools!

OK, that's strange. I see you have brush pressure set at 1, and the other settings are sensible, so a bit of a mystery. Have you tried both mouse and tablet? If it happens with one and not the other you could check that device's settings. Might be down to deleting preferences unless someone else has a bright idea.
