The type tool issue

What can be the reason that when each time I open Photoshop Elements and click on "Type Tool" (font) then app hangs for a longer while (about 30 seconds)?
Is this case of builing previews of fonts?
What can I do?

You might have added a corrupt font or one that for whatever reason Elements chokes on. I'd try removing the fonts you added (leave the ones that came with Vista or other applications alone...just take out any freeware ones you have downloaded). See if Elements acts as it should. If it starts without the delay, add a couple of fonts back then check how Elements starts. Do this until you find the font causing the issue.
If you really are into fonts, you might consider getting a font manager. There are both free and $ ones out there.
My personal favorite is a freeware font manager called The Font Thing...Windows only. It doesn't list that it's Vista compatible but I have been using it on Vista without any issues.

Note: I keep my downloaded fonts in a folder on an external drive and must hit "Refresh" button in the Font thing menu bar before the navigation tree shows up in the browser window. Like other software made for XP, the "Help" is broken with Vista.

How do I get PS CS5 to stop freezing when I select the type tool?

Okay, I've read the other threads about photoshop cs5 freezing up for various reasons. I'm running it on os x 10.5.8 on a dual quad 2.8 processor tower. Every time I open PS and select the type tool, my entire computer slows and freezes to the point I have to do a hard restart. I've tried disabling all fonts and the same things happens (though when they're all disabled I do get a text cursor before things hang up). I'm looking for any advice--I spend the entire day today trying to fix this.

Chris, I tried updating and it wouldn't install... Are you not allowed to install updates when you are using the "trial version"?
I sure would like to get this resolved before investing in the actual purchase of CS5. I always get the Master Collection and it's expensive.
So, if I can't install the update and try and find a fix to the issue, I don't think I'd be comfortable purchasing... you know?
That's why I ALWAYS download the trial version first... to see if there are issues before buying!
Anyway... I'll keep my eye on these posts to see if this has been cleared up... then, I'll buy.

Nobody can tell you anything without proper system info or other technical details. The standard answer with all text issues simply is, that you have a "bad font" on your system and need to get rid of it.

Photoshop CS6 (Mac) crashes when opening files with type or using the type tool

Hi,
Photoshop CS6 keeps crashing when using the type tool or when opening files with type on it. I've quit suitcase, disabled the suitcase plug-in, reset the preferences in Photoshop there's no crash report coming up either the application just dies! I am currently trying a system restore from time machine to see if that works!. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The type tool is not working

I upgraded from PSE9 to CS5 and I can no longer view any of the fonts or use the type tool in either program. What do I need to do to fix this issue? Thanks for any help! Cindy

Photoshop CS6 type tool issue - Disappearing Type

I recently installed CS6 and ever since then I have been having issues with type disappearing. When I choose the type tool and begin typing, everything is fine until I try to modify the type in any way, if I change point size, add a color overlay or change paragraph orientation my type disappears! If I press Command Z (undo) the type reappears minus my edits. If I try to edit type again, it's gone again. Anyone else having this issue? Any ideas how to fix it?

I figured out the issue. The Text Tool was displayed but it was off the bottom of the screen. I had to resize the window from the bottom to display the Text Tool. To do so I had to move the dock to the left and then learn that by using the Option key it is possible to change window size on both edges.

I have just recently downloaded CS6 and I had some problems while working on it. Leaving aside the fact that Save for web is not working, now I have some issues with the type tool. Whenever I type something the punctuation is going in front of the text and the letters are typed from right to left. Because I don't know how to explain it so well, I tried to recorder the whole thing.

Photoshop freezes up when trying to use the Type tool.

Each time I try to use the Type tool, my Photoshop freezes up. I have to force it to close, then start over.
It is beyond frustrating!

We really apologize for all the inconvenience which has caused you.
I would appreciate you follow the steps below and that should fix the issue for you.
Solution 1: Update Photoshop to the most recent version.
To update Photoshop:
1. Choose Help > Updates (this method is the preferred update method).
or
2. Download the most recent update from the Adobe website: http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates.
Solution 2: Turn Font Preview off in Photoshop's Preferences.
In Photoshop CS6:
Choose Type > Font Preview Size.
Select None.
In Photoshop CS5 and CS4:
Choose Photoshop > Preferences > Type (Mac OS) or Edit > Preferences > Type (Windows).
Deselect Font Preview Size.
Retest your issue to determine if this solution solved the problem.
Solution 3: Remove or turn off the following fonts
The following fonts are known to cause problems when used in Photoshop:
Bustle (Mac OS only)
21kannmbn_ttf
GURAKH_S.TTF
JH_TITLES.TTF
SCREEN__.TTF

The type tool has a circle with a strike through on the bottom corner and won't insert words when iI type

I've just restored from a computer crash and re installed Creative Cloud 6 on my clean computer. Since then I've tried to use illustrator but can't get the type tool to function. It appears but has a small circle with a strike through on the bottom right corner and won't insert words when I type. I'm a newbie to illustrator and other Adobe products so please be gentle. Thanks for any help.

This was a bigger problem than I thought so I contacted support. The type issue was fixed in the repair.
BTW I am running Creative Cloud 2014 and not cc6 like I thought. Also on PC Windows 7

I also have had a difficult time with Adobe Illustrator CC 2014 crashing upon launch. The support staff was great even though we had to work through several sessions. Below is the email explaining our final session.
This email is in regards with the issue you had been facing with Illustrator CC 2014.
While going through the installer logs, we found that there was an issue with the installation & the program installer had been denied access to several critical files & folders during installation.
This was the main reason for Illustrator crash as several critical components had not been installed properly.
We tried installing the program in a new user account & that worked.
Though the program has been installed properly now & is working in your old account, I will still strongly recommend you to get your computer user account repaired with a Windows 7 operating system diskette.
This is required so that you do not run into more trouble later while working with the Adobe Applications or even while installing other programs.
Avanish Divya was the final support person that successfully resolved my problems.
I hope this helps other panicked users.

Type tool issue: Type in saved document changes font when reopened and clicked on.

I've recently started getting a problem with document which I've saved a type layer to with a particular font. Reopening the document for reuse, I find clicking on the type with the type tool changes it to a different font. I've done a check on this and it was a known issue with CS6 and there is an adobe update to install: Adobe - Photoshop : For Macintosh : Adobe Photoshop 13.0.1 update for Adobe Photoshop CS6 : Trouble is, the install doesn't take and is advising me to seek customer support. Any ideas anyone? Recreating the file and font everytime (which is a work around) is a pain.

I suspect a damaged install.
Let's do an uninstall/reinstall. Be sure your account has admin privileges.
Uninstall CS6, checkmark "Remove Preferences"
Use the CS Cleaners to remove anything that might interfere with a reinstall
Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6
Use Disk Utility to repair permissions.
Reinstall CS6 and immediately apply the update.

You may have answered my question. I AM using the 64bit version of Illustrator CS6. I had no idea there were bugs in it that affected paths copied and pasted from Illustrator to Photoshop.
A bit more about what I'm trying to accomplish... I'm trying to follow Deke's tutorial (http://www.deke.com/content/dekes-techniques-018-creating-a-3d-pie-chart) which is already difficult since so much has changed between CS5.5 and 6, but then on top of that, I keep getting errors!
So I created the pie chart exactly as he shows and copied and pasted into Photoshop exactly as he does. Before submitting this post, though, I tried drawing just two very simple triangle shapes, copying them both and pasting them into Photoshop as a shape layer. The shapes weren't overlapping, but they were a part of the same shape layer just like the pie chart tutorial.
Thanks for your help. If there is anything else I should try before just giving up because of the 64bit bugs, please let me know.

Since I did not have this problem with CS5 or CS4, I can only assume something is not right with Photoshop CS6... below is my video card info:
