The Uncooperative Newton: Chapter 4, Newton Be Hatin' 2.0

I've had this problem for a while (ever since I got my Newton a year ago), but I've become interested in solving it, if possible.
My Newton 120 is running System 2.0 (I think, not 100% sure how to tell, I see a 2.0 here:
so I assume it is)
I also have installed the Newton Connection Version 2.0 on my Performa 637CD.
You'd think that Newton 2.0 would sync with Connection 2.0, right? Well,
WRONG
I get this error whenver trying to use the Synchronize/Restore features of Newton connection (with Newton connected via Apple Serial):

So, how can I get this working? Where is the wrong version here? Both are 2.0...
After a quick Google, I found someone else with this problem. The replies said that Connection 2.0 couldn't sync with System 2.0, and that he had to get an alternative connection program?
Which doesn't seem to make sense to me, why would Apple design a system that they didn't have a connection program for? If they did, then where can I download it for System 7.5.5? Or is there an alternative that will work on 7.5.5? I also have a PC running Windows XP, and a PC running Ubuntu Linux if there truly is no way to sync the Newton with my Mac (which, once again, seems silly).

Can someone tell me where the "Post New Topic" link is? I have been to every page looking at the top of the page for this link as instructed in the "Help" section, but I find these forums rather difficult to navigate. In theory, the link should best be located in the right margin Under "Welcome, NAME" with Logout and My settings. But no, it is at the top of some page that I cannot seem to find, even after searching for my question and finding nothing. Thus, I am forced to write this here in the hope that someone can help me. Silly really to be forced to do such a thing and take up everyone's valuable time, alas.

The difference between chapter markers and dvd studio pro markers

Does anyone know what is the difference between chapter markers and dvd studio pro markers? I can not find anywhere on Google. Also in the tutorials I have seen, suggesting DVD Studio Pro markers, but it did not mention the chapter markers.

"Adding Chapter and Compression Markers to Your Sequence
Once you have your edited sequence or program finished, you can add markers to the sequence for use on DVD. Markers are reference points you can place within clips or sequences that identify specific frames. There are two kinds of markers you can add that directly relate to authoring a DVD—chapter markers and compression markers.
• Chapter markers allow DVD authoring applications to create a navigable chapter list for your exported QuickTime movie. Chapter markers force MPEG keyframes (known as I-frames) at their location, since the DVD specification requires an I-frame at each chapter point.
• Compression markers identify areas of abrupt change and include two types: those that are automatically inserted by Final Cut Pro at all edit points, and those you manually place in the clip or sequence. Missing sound at the begining of chapter

I built a blu-ray disk with the following flowsheet (this flowsheet is OK according the "check project" feature) :
After the disk burning (with Nero 12 Burning Rom, not with Encore CS 6 which generates a well known error not fixed by Adobe), the "read first" before main menu is an AME transcoded sequence from PP CC. This sequence has an audio track, but only with the final burned blu-ray disk, the sound begins after about four or five seconds, not at the begining.
I checked the "montage" in Encore and the related .m2ts file in the BDMV directory : both are OK.
Is this a bug or if not where is the mistake ?

New to the Apple 'Newton' Messagepad 2100/2000 Can Some One Help?

So I've just recently discovered the world of the Apple Messagepad. I've been searching for a while now for a pda that best suites my interests and needs. When I came across this old ad for the Messagepad I totally got excited as I love Apple products and seriously loved the look and features that the device boasted. So - now I've put some bids on a couple of 2100 models on ebay and am waiting, I've also found some resellers, I'm definitely going to get a hold of one of these devices. I've done some research on the devices and am concerned mostly with the just how difficult it will be to install software and/or upgrades onto the device from my G5 Powermac. Is there anyone out there with advice and/or suggestions for this Newton Newbie? Any info you can offer me about anything having to do with Messagepads would be surely helpful.

Welcome to the world of the Newt!
In addition to the links already posted you will really need to look carefully at www.unna.org - specifically the wikiwikinewt which is a goldmine of information. Also after reading that if you have any questions you can post them on www.newtontalk.net.
To get going on the install of software you have to overcome the "bootstrapping" problem (see wikiwikinewt). If you don't have access to someone with a Newt (you can then use iRDA) or can't get hold of a PCMCIA card from another Newt owner, then you will need a serial cable setup + a serial/USB adapter + a dongle for the Newt. The dongle adapts the Newt connector to the old Mac serial cable and the adapter makes it possible to connect to the latest Macs (this is what I use) (Keypsan produce a good adapter).

I have installed a trail version of FrameMaker 12 and cannot open the book and chapter files in FrameMaker 8

My colleague and I use FrameMaker 8 but I'm considering whether it would be a good idea to upgrade to FrameMaker 12. So today I installed a trail version of FrameMaker 12.
Before opening a book file in FM12, I copied it to another folder so I wouldn't mess up anything. Unfortunately, I forgot to copy the chapter files so I opened most of them from FM12. As soon as I found out about it, I copied them to the new folder, but too late.
Now I'm not able to open the original files from FM8 (and even worse, neither can my colleague). I read somewhere else, that I should save the book file in the .MIF format (I tried both 12 and 7.0) and then open it from FM8. I tried that, but I still cannot open the chapter files.
I get an error message saying: "Althoug xxx.fm appears to be a FrameMaker document, it can't be opened with this release of the product".
I didn't make any changes to the chapter files when I looked at them in FM 12.
What should I do? I case we decide not to upgrade, we will not be able to access this book which is a big problem. I already have some small changes that have to be made.

Back saving to MIF should work, but it’s probably faster to just retrieve a backup of the FM8 files & books and restore them over your botched FM12 versions. Then take a copy of that backup and put it on the trial machine to play away without impacting anything else.

In the preview sample chapter the chapter has the wrong number

I'm preparing one sample chapter to upload in itunes producer. I have deleted everything else except the introduction, credits and acknowledgements. But the chapter in the preview is now numbered 1. In the full book it is chapter 4, section 6. Do I leave it as 1 or try to change it back to reflect the full book? Also the table of contents now only reflects the areas I chose to keep in the preview. Is that the way it is supposed to be?

It's a preview.....the chapter navigation has to reflect it's reality, not the book's....don't worry about it.

Is there a way to control the section prefix (chapter, section, ...) to say something else ?

i would like to use different section prefix text than author uses by default. i would not find a way to change the text anywhere.

Make sure your Styles Drawer is open.
Then 'select' the text you want changed. You will see that its paragraph style is now highlighted in the Styles Drawer,
Change font, style, size, colour, etc.
While the text is still selected, click the little red arrow to the right of the style name in the drawer. In the drop down menu, select: "Redefine Style from Selection".
The preview in the Style Drawer will now be the same as your selection, and will automatically change every instance of that style throughout the entire book.

I have come across some websites which state that you can have up more than 4Gb+. Would this be seen by my Newton MP2000?

Control the creation of excise invoice without chapter id

If Chapter ID is not maintained for a material in J1ID, can we control the creation of the sales excise invoice (J1IIN) for that particular material.

Eventhough the chapter ID is not maintained in the Material Master or in J1ID, the system will allow the creation of the sales excise invoice (J1IIN) without any excise duties in case of TAXINJ and with excise duties in case of TAXINN.
My requirement is that the system should restrict the creation of sales excise invoice for the materials without chapter ID.(Any User exits ???)

TOC at the beginning of every chapter

Hi,
I am working on a publication.
I included a TOC at the beginning of the document:
Chapter one
part one
part two
Chapter two
part one
part two
Chapter three ...
So far, so good, but I also want to include the same TOC at the beginning of each chapter,
this time only containing the part of the TOC that is relevant to that chapter:
for example: Chapter two should start witch a TOC, containing:
2. Chapter two
part one
part two
But it shouldn't contain any of the information about chapter 1 or 3.
Can this be done?
At the moment, my publication is just 1 long InDesign document, not an InDesign book or something...
I accomplish what I want by creating a TOC, and manually delete (for each chapter) the parts that aren't relevant to a specific chapter....
Any help would be appreciated...

I would create the TOC as a threaded story.
The first text frame(s) before the first chapter, second before the second, etc.
All that you would need to do then would be resize each text frame(s) to fit the correct part of the TOC for that chapter...

Not able to edit the words "chapter" and "section" in the document workflow

I would like to point out something that could be a bug. The 2 words "chapter" and "section" are not editable in the document workflow: I can just change the title for each chapter and the title for each section, but I am not able to change the words "chapter" and "section".
The problem is, iBooks Author is using the words "chapter" and "section" (heading 1) to build the TOC: if I am using iBooks Author in English, but I am writing a text in French, I am not able to change "Chapter" into "Chapitre". The only way to go, what I found out, is to close the app, change the OSX Lion system language, log out, re-open iBooks Author and start a new book: opening an English book in the French version of iBooks Author will not change automatically the language in the workflow.
Does anybody has a trick to edit the words "chapter" and "section"?

Thank you, but it's still in english.
I changed to "only number", then wrote the word "chapter" in french or italian or german before the number, then deleted the preview on the iPad and made a new preview, I still have the same result: the word "chapter" is still in the language of the app.
To be clear: I am writing a text using iBooks Author in italian. I have to translate the same text in french, the fastest way would be to rework the italian version (I already have all the multimedia stuff inside). I changed the italian word "Capitolo" (chapter) to the french one "Chapitre" (using the advices of AodhFFXI and K T). And for the first slide of the chapter that's fine.
But if I "close down" the first chapter slide or if I click on the top left botton to go to the chapter TOC, there I still have the word in italian, even if the word has been deleted in the layout:

Does the Pop-Up Menu causes the Video a small jump to the closest Pop-Up chapter?

I have setted five Pop-up Chapter Menu for my project but after burning the blu ray, I have notice the vidoe coming close to one of the Pop-up Chapter will a small jump to the pop-up point. It happens to all of the Pop-Up chapter. Is there a way to make the movie smooth without the slight jump when approaching the Pop-up point. Also is there a away to view the pop-up menu when I build the project to ensure it is working? I cannot find on the Encore help menu, thanks for reading.

Bummer. Could be a problem with the MBP drive. Are you using Re-writable discs maybe?
Check the discs work in your HP machine. They may have burnt but not successfully. Your HP machine may not be able to open them either.
Have you considered using a USB flash device to transfer the photos, or just copy them over your home network? CD is a slow an cumbersome method.
