The Updater cannot "Mount" the iPod?

everytime I turn on, reset or plug in the iPod, the Apple comes up for like 10-20 seconds, then the folder with exclamation point comes on. When it's plugged in, it will shortly connect to the computer, then it will automatically reset and go back to the apple and so on and so forth. When I tryed using the latest updater, it said that it couldn't "Mount" the iPod, anyone?
thanx,
John

  • IPod Cannot be updated or mounted with ipod updater or itunes

Every time i try to update my ipod on itunes i either get "The iPod "Tdunks iPod" cannot be updated. The disk cannot be read from or written to." or i will get "The iPod "Tdunks iPod" cannot be updated. Required file not found." When i try to use ipod updater i get " Can't mount iPod" I have an ipod nano 2gb black version and am runnign windows xp with the newest itunes and ipod updater.

try this, change the drive letter of the ipod this can sometimes solve your issue change it to "M" or something like that this is how to change it, Click on control panel/admin tools/computer management/disk management/right click on the iPod to re-assign the drive letter.

My Ipod has been working great until now. When I update it in Itunes I get the message The iPod "Owners IPod" cannot be updated. The required folder cannot be found. My itunes has 220 songs but the ipod has 90. I can still add new songs though. I have reset. Uninstalled itunes and the ipod software. Tried to wipe out the ipod with the updater software but I get the message can't mount ipod. I have tried to chage the ipod to a disk drive to erase but it will not. I have unchecked all songs, erased photo files. Tried the Apple's 5 R's. Nothing works. Now trying to reach Apple or someone to help is very hard. .................Jeff

there are a lot of different FM trasmitters.. My choice would be a kensington or belkin.. I have both and they work well.. Before you buy one in the description of the product it should tell you what model they will work with.. just make sure it will work with your nano.. do a google search on "fm transmitter UK" Im sure you will get a ton of options.

  • ERROR MESSAGE: The IPOD cannot be updated.

Please help!! Have tried everything can think of including, resetting, retrying, restarting, reinstalling and restoring. ITunes automatically starts downloading when you connect but then only transfers the first 50 or so songs in the library, and then says update complete. When you ask it to then update the IPOD through file menu an error message comes up saying 'The IPOD cannot be updated, the disk could not be read from or written to.' There is no problem with the IPOD, because I have been able to update it via another PC, it just won't update via the laptop even though the ITunes has been set up on the laptop as the ITunes I want to use.

When I try to update my mini iPod I get the following message. Songs on the iPod "administrator's iPod" cannot be updated because all of the playlists selected for updating no longer exists.

Have a look at this post by forum member Hudgie it may help explain things: Hudgie - iPod cannot sync because one or more playlists are missing

  • "Songs on the iPod "____" cannot be updated because all of the playlists...

"Songs on the iPod "Harold Kim's iPod" cannot be updated because all of the playlists selected for updating no longer exist."
Im not sure what this means or how to fix it. any sort of advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

You get this problem when the option 'Sync Music - Selected playlists' is being used to sync your iPod. If the playlist selected is deleted from iTunes the iPod no longer has a location to sync from and you get an error. (Syncing selected playlists by the way is a useful setting to use when the iPod is smaller than the iTunes library). However you can make a new one or make use of an existing one.
Open iTunes and create a playlist to update your iPod from, call it -My iPod for example (the dash will position it at the top of the playlists in Sources). You can make it a smart playlist that picks the songs for you or just a normal one and drag whatever content you want to have into the playlist. If you are making a smart playlist limit it to just less than the size of your iPod (for example 3700MB for a 4G iPod Nano. Now connect your iPod and when it appears in the Source list click on the iPod icon to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. Go to the Music tab and choose Sync Music and the Selected playlists radio button. Choose the playlist you just made from the selection and click Apply. You can also sync from any existing playlists by choosing the same setting, you just need to make sure that the size of the playlists don't exceed the capacity of your iPod:
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
    Syncing Music to iPod
To make a random playlist go to File>New Smart Playlist.
    Uncheck "Match the following rule"
Check "Limit to" put "3700" in the number box, choose "MB" from the first list box, choose "Random" from the next list box. Check "Live Updating"
When you want to change the selection in the smart playlist just delete everything in it and it will add a new selection. When you want to change the normal playlist just delete out what you don't want and drag in a new selection.
Syncing selected playlists is just like syncing your whole library only on a smaller scale and more "selectively". When your iPod is is set to sync selected playlists it automatically picks up any changes you made to that playlist in iTunes since you last connected. Anything you added to the playlist will be added to the iPod, anything you deleted from it will be deleted from the iPod. In other words the iTunes playlist and the iPod are kept "in sync".

  • Error:the ipod cannot be updated. the disc could not be read from or writte

May sound silly I am sorry, new to this. Just got an ipod shuffle and have gone through all troubleshooting suggestions ie: restore ipod, reinstall software etc. Am getting an error: "The ipod "administrator's ipod" cannot be updated. The disc could not be read from or written to". This occurs when I click and drag a playlist from the source section to my ipod in the source section. Getting a wee bit discouraged by reading all the problems associated with this ipod and am hoping for an easy fix to slide past further frustration. Please help. Thank you muchly.

This message appears every time I try and update my ipod or put photos on. I also get this message:
An error occured while updating the default player for audio file types. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation.
    WHAT DO I DO???????

Perhaps check for corrupted files--I had this issue with a messed up track/ file, and that kept killing the sync. More here:

  • The ipod "IPOD" cannot be updated. The disk could not be read or written to

"The iPod "IPOD" cannot be updated. The disk could not be read or written to"
"The iPod "IPOD" cannot be updated. An unknown error occurred. (-50)"
I have been dealing with this ever since I installed iTunes 7. I had been getting this message with my previous version, but at least the files would load onto the iPod once I deleted the files in the library and reloaded them. Now, nothing works.
I attempted to restore the iPod, but guess what? I got this message every time:
"The iPod "IPOD" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1418)"
When I checked drive E on the Device Manager on My Computer, it said the device was working fine.
Desperate to fix the problem, I began searching online for other solutions when I stumbled upon someone mentioning the option to format the iPod with fat32, suggesting that as a way to solve the problem, so I did so. After that, nothing has worked. The device manager now says that there are no drivers for drive E and iTunes won't let me restore the iPod.
I'm plumb out of ideas. What's left to do? I'm not rich enough to just say, "Oh well! La dee da! Let me go buy another iPod shuffle." Is there any way to fix this?

I finally reinstalled iTunes and my 2G Shuffle on my another station (PC portable + Windows XP) and that functions without trouble.
As I followed exactly the same procedure of installation, it's difficult to me to explain differences.
    For each pc :
    - No iPod or iTunes previously installed before this one
    - All the rights (administrator)
    Differences :
    - The OS (Windows XP and Windows XP Pro)
    - A lot of USB peripherics declared on my first PC.
I tend to think that the problem comes from the detection or the declaration of the port usb, but I'm not at all an expert.
So my trouble is solved, but not with a satisfactory solution.

The ipod "IPOD" cannot be updated. The disk could not be read from or written to. First, what disk is this talking about. Also, when i "update" my ipod none of my videos get transfered to the ipod any more. Couple weeks ago the series "Monk" was always transferred from itunes to the ipod, but now, it doesnt show up on my ipod. When i go to the ipod options and select the videos tab, it doesnt let me choose to manually update the videos or automatically do it.

It's referring to the iPod's hard drive, see if any of the troubleshooting steps in this article help: "-36 or "Disk cannot be read from or written to" when syncing iPod or "Firmware update failure" error when updating or restoring iPod
