The USB port on the new keyboards

Hi,
I'd just like to have your opinion about the placement of the USB port on the new mac keyboard. I think it is a pity that they are so far away under the keyboard. It makes them difficult to access. Besides, what if your USB device is a bit large. You cannot plug it in for pure physical reasons.
Another mistake from apple? What do you think?

But I could counter that my wife likes the way the USB port is recessed because her thumb drive fits perfectly doesn't protrude from the keyboard unlike with other keyboards. Since getting this keyboard she hasn't knocked her thumb drive lose and hasn't set her drink on it. And let's be serious - how difficult is it to lift up the keyboard to plug in a device? How onerous is it to buy a little extender if you do find lifting the keyboard such a time wasting task? Okay, I'll tone down the sarcasm
Thanks. Point is, it adds an extra step. Macs should be more user friendly. No, it is not hard to lift the keyboard, but why should we have to when before you just saw the port and attached away?
If you want to complain about design decisions, let's ask a few questions that might be more serious? Why is the power button hidden on back in stead of conveniently in front? Why isn't there at least a visual cue telling is where to insert a disc? Why isn't there a way to vertically adjust the display? Why are all the ports on back? Wouldn't it be convenient to have at least one USB port in front? Where is the little LED that pulses to let us know the computer is asleep?
Well, this thread wasn't directed at the new iMac's other design quirks, but since you bring it up.
1) Yes, that power button in the back left me scratching my head. I'm used to it now, but it is another good example of form over function.
2) I insterted a disc backwards the first time, silly me.
3) It is so big, why do you need to vertically adjust it?
4) Ports on the front would make things easier, yet. And you wouldn't have to lift the keyboard But it would interfere with the clean appearance.
5) I miss that LED too....

Normal typing is OK, but some function keys aren't properly working.
When I checked the website, I have to update keyboard bios.
    How can I do?

    Hi, jwkweon
You could try installing the latest version of the Hotkey Features Integration (found here) and see if that helps your issue.

  • How thin is the new keyboard?

Exactly how thin is the new keyboard?

aside from measurements... I would just say thin... you need to see one in person if you havent already. I was going to buy the new aluminum imac simply for the keyboard until i popped into the apple store and they sell them seperatly... i bought the wired version for my imac simpy because its even thinner than the wireless version. I love it... so instead ill turn my intel imac core duo into a newer mac for less lol... got the keyboard, have a wireless mighty mouse, installed 2gb's of ram which i purchased from another company for 75%less money than apple robs you i mean charges you for.. got an external 500GB hard drive and will install leopard when that comes on out.

  • Ipod Touch not recognized by USB port on my new radio! PLEASE help?!?!?

Ok, so I just bought a new radio for my car so I can listen to my ipod touch 2nd gen (with the latest 3.0 software) through my speakers. Ok, that's all great, but the problem is that when I connect my ipod touch through the USB port on my new radio, it reads "device error"...
My radio is an Alpine CDE-102. It does have an AUX input, and I can easily get a cable to fix this problem... but I'm wondering why my ipod touch doesn't show up through the USB?!?! And I don't know how AUX input sounds compared to USB input (probably less quality than the USB...)
So, can you help me? I've also connected my ipod touch to my xbox 360 and it shows up as a camera - can't play music... all part of the same problem I guess...
This is a SERIOUSLY annoying problem especially since I just dropped some cash on the new radio which might not even WORK!!! AHHHHH! A problem with the USB cable? Problem with the Ipod? Problem with the stereo? I'm not quite sure what to think...

That is the ONLY cable that will work with that radio:
    http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/products/product.php?model=CDE-102&view=Specs
From reading the manual for your iPod I'm pretty certain the connector is on the rear of your unit.
You can connect an Auxiliary cable to the headphone out on your Touch to the AUX in on the radio but you will have to control everything with the iPod and it will not charge.
The cable is $30, why don't you ask how much they would charge you to install it?

  • Can the new keyboard USB be used for iPod connection for charge & sync'ing?

I have never had an iMac..yet.
Goon buy the new one soon, I was going to get the wireless keyboard but it doesnt include any USB ports like the wired version so because the iMacs USB are put on the back (shouldnt they put on in easy reach on the front?)
Can the iPod be plugged into the keyboards and charged and synced?

Get yourself a [Belkin Hi-Speed USB 2.0 4-Port for Macintosh|http://www.provantage.com/belkin-f5u233-apl~7BELU032.htm] to prevent having to reach around to plug/unplug your devices.
I have my keyboard connected in one USB port.
Then I have my printer connected into the second port.
Then a 7 Port Belkin Hub connected in the thrid port.
Then all my cords for iPod, camera's and other devices are connected to the Hub.
Then there's no need to plug/unplug anything but, the device to it's cord and flash drives into that top port.

  • How can I play itunes music through one of the usb ports on my new MacBook Air?

    Greetings Everyone.
I just purchased my first Mac product I want to be able to play music from the itunes app from one of my usb ports to the usb port on the front panel of my Yamaha CD changer. I want to utilize the buit-in DAC of the Yamaha. A friend was able to run his Ipad through it but I can't see a way to run my MacBook Air through it. When I go to System Preferences -> Hardware -> Sound the only item listed for Output is "Internal Speakers".
    Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

    Reset the SMC and PRAM
    SMC Reset:
    Shut down the MacBook Pro.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    PRAM:
    Shut down the MacBook Pro.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • How is the new keyboard?

I was planning to pick up a new MBP today but when I took a look at it in the store, I wasn't impressed with the feel of the keyboard. I've got a first-gen MBP and I do a LOT of typing so I'm pretty used to the keyboard on it.
The keys on the new one felt smoother than my MBP does, almost like there was no texture at all. And the spacing felt a little different as well.
I realize it's hard to judge from 10 minutes of use, so I'm curious how other people have found the switch, especially if you do a lot of typing. Do you like the new style keyboard? And did it take long to get used to the change?
    Thanks,
    John

I was used to and comfortable with the older style keyboard and the newer one did feel a little strange to start with - doesn't everything? Now I prefer the new style keyboard to the old.
As for grease, oily finger marks - I personally don't have an issue with this. Indeed, the smooth black finish might show certain marks a little easier, but the older silver-style keyboard was far from perfect in this department either. On my old G4 PowerBook, after a few months of what I would classify 'normal' use, I would start to see a grayish grime around the edges of the more well used keys and would need to wipe them clean.

  • Usability of the new Keyboard?

I was reading an article (a persons opinion) and in it he mentioned that touch typists would have difficulty with Apple's new keyboard as fingers wander from the home row due to a lack of a point on the f and j keys to keep them there. He also mentioned that if you just rest your hands on the keyboard characters are easily entered by accident. And finally he wasn't keen on the keyboard as you couldn't tilt it. To me the keyboard looks very sharp but I was wondering what people thought who have it and are using it. Is it problematic. I'm thinking of getting an iMac but the keyboard is critical to me in terms of the amount I use it so I wouldn't want it to be any less than as functional as the current Mac keyboard.

Thanks. I was in the Apple store yesterday and the sales rep thought I should keep what I have as he said the Cinema Display is better than the iMac display. He thought that were I to upgrade I should change it out to a Mac Pro but this seems overkill for my needs. Also, the current Mac Pro, I think, hs been around for a while so I would suspect Apple might do something with that next. But it still seems like overkill.
When I looked at the iMacs, the one thing that I didn't like right away was this strong reflection on the screen. The cinema display doesn't have that at all. I helped setup a friends Toshiba a while back and it too had a strong reflection and I didn't like it. I guess its a glass overlay and it makes the colours more vivid but that reflection would drive me nuts.
I also can't say that I found these machines any faster than my current machine. Maybe they are but with the apps loading that I often use it seemed the same.
So maybe with this all said I should wait another year and see what the landscape looks like then. I like my Macbook Pro but it just seems that when you never use it as a portable you might as well have a desktop. But I guess if I ever really did need to run in portable mode sometime in the future I have that option.

  • Where's the insert key on the new keyboards?

I'm using Maya right now and the insert key is used to adjust the pivot point of objects. However, I don't see an insert key on this here new keyboard.

  • Are the new keyboards less likely to get dirty?

Would these new keyboards be less likely to collect debris? My older Apple keyboard has collected a lot of debris on the walls of the keys as well as under the keys themselves. A keyboard cover could have prevented that, but I wonder for these new keyboards would it even be necessary.

Some have found relief just by reinstalling, but it is more than likely incompatible third-party applications that slow it down.
You will have to investigate to see what it is.
Open Activity Monitor and see if anything is using a lot of CPU% or Memory. If they are, check to see if there is an update for them.
Another place to look is the Console. See if anything is logging repeating messages with throttling and/or respawn in the All Messages list.
Sometimes it is not that easy to root out the problems, but if you have anything that purported to clean, protect, optimize, maintain, or flush your system, then that is likely the cause.

  • What are the new keyboard shortcuts?

This update has done nothing for me but give me a headache. Everything has changed, but none in my favor. I was so used to everything, so if someone could kindly help me out with the shortcuts & how to get the little pianos to show up, I'd appreciate it.
    Thanks.

Unfortunately, Apple gave everybody the impression that GarageBand X is an upgrade to GarageBand 11. This is NOT the case. GarageBand X is a new application (it is actually Logic Pro Light).
That means you cannot just open up GarageBand X look around a little, search for the new goodies and expect to continue to work. You have to learn practically a new app and that app has a few (important) features) missing compared to the GarageBand 11.
    Hope that helps

  • What is the new Keyboard (Command) shorcut for Pages 5.0

    Hi everyone,
I have the new pages software which doesn't allow me to use the command + Mouse (selection) to select non-consecutive.
You could do that in the old pages, but now on the new 5.0 latest release of Pages you can't.
    Thanks.
    Have a nice day.

Well, I haven't been able to find the Pages 4.3 app in the Application Folder but I've been able to use it opening the document with: 'Open with...'
    Thanks, for your help.

  • Does the Mac Pro come with the new keyboard?

I ask because on the configuration page it still shows the old white one, but on the iMac configuration page it shows the new aluminum one.
    --Thanks.

No one here knows. Apple knows but they are very "closed mouthed" about these things. When they announce it, that's when.

  • My frequent USB port connection has new warning?

    Hello,
Just recently, I've had a new warning pop up when I connect my iPod video to my old iMac G4 on one of the 3 USB ports located on the back. The warning says something about how I've connected the iPod to a low-speed USB port (1.1) and may have performance problems.
I never had this kind of message before. I haven't used the iPod video all that much and actually prefer to connect it to my MacBook Pro but there are times when a recharge on my iMac G4 is more convenient than the laptop. Plus, I purchaed the iTunes Video Games with the G4 and anytime I restore the iPod Video I have to sync it with the G4 in order to transfer the games.
Does anyone have a reason for this message? Related to an update? Do USB ports go bad over time or wear down? Is there something else wrong with my iMac or a symptom in the ports area?
