The video library is empty in iMovie on iOS after update to iCloud photo library

I updated to iCloud photo library and all of my photos and videos are now in the cloud instead of my iDevice. When I open iMovie in iDevice, the photo/video library is empty. How can I use my videos in projects?

iCloud photo library will be introduced as beta in an iOS 8 update scheduled for October.  Read under "Pricing & Availability" here: http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2014/09/09Apple-Announces-iOS-8-Available-Septem ber-17.html.

  • All photos gone after I activeted Icloud Photo Library

Once I activated iCloud Photo Library all my photos that used to be in the photos shared folder simply disappeared from my iPhone and do not appear in iCloud. I missed all those pictures? It is possible that iCloud is still carrying all since I had over 1000 photos?

I have this same issue. Very frustrating. Made a similar post an no answers yet.

  • Cannot re-play videos I took with my phone after turning on iCloud photo library.

Do I have to download the full resolution video for it to play?   All the videos are there, but will not play when I tap the thumbnail.

  • "all photos" album not including all photos. Causing some photo not to be uploaded to iCloud Photo Library

After updating to iCloud photo library (iPhone 5, iOS 8.1), if I look at my "photos" tab I see over 700 photos, but in the  'all photos' album I only have 420. This results in only 420 of the photos uploaded to iCloud Photo library and not clearing much space off of my iPhone.

The FAVOURITES and PANOS albums also sort by date and time too. So all the albums sort by time and day except the ALL PHOTOS album! Seems very strange! What's even odder is that the date range listed at the top of the ALL PHOTOS album would suggest that they are sorted by date!
Apple I hope you SORT this out soon

  • IPhone photos app crashing consistently with large iCloud photo library beta - how can I completely remove?

Hi - I turned on the iCloud photo library beta on my phone weeks ago.  Worked fine with no issues.  Then the Yosemite OS X beta 10.10.3 was released with the new Photos app.  Once i loaded that new app, it converted my Aperture library and began to upload around 75,000 photos.
My iPhone almost immediately became sluggish (I assumed because it was downloading the pictures) and then eventually started crashing every time I go into the app (after a few seconds).  I assumed it was because it showed 75,000 images in my Cameral Roll/Moments so I turned of the iCloud photo library beta.  It prompted to be certain I was ok with deleting the images, which I said OK to.  But it still shows 75,000 images in the camera roll and anything I tried to do with any photo has become completely unusable (generally just crashing each time).
Did I miss a step in the process?
    Is this just me?
I'm trying to backup my iPhone but it keeps erroring out with the message "iTunes could not back up the iPhone "name" because the iPhone disconnected".  Otherwise I would just recreate .  Please help

It can free up some storage but it doesn't work like Dropbox. See the following quotes from iCloud Photo Library beta FAQ - Apple Support
I personally don't use iCloud Photo Library as it is still beta. Additionally, I have a Mac computer and there is not yet a Mac Photos app that is compatible.
How does iCloud Photo Library save space on my device?
If you turn on Optimize [device] Storage, iCloud Photo Library will automatically manage the size of your library on your iOS device, so you can make the most of your device's storage and access more photos than ever. iCloud Photo Library stores the original, high-resolution photos and videos in iCloud and can keep lightweight, device-optimized versions on each of your devices. As long as you have enough storage, recent photos and videos that you access the most will stay on your device at full resolution.
To turn on Optimize [device] Storage on your device, tap Settings > iCloud > Photos or Settings > Photos & Camera, then select Optimize [device] Storage. You need an Internet connection to access an original photo or video that’s stored only in iCloud.
How does iCloud delete photos and videos from iCloud Photo Library?
Deleting a photo or video from your Photos app will also remove the item from iCloud Photo Library and from your iCloud storage allocation. Photos and videos you remove can be recovered from the Recently Deleted album for 30 days. After 30 days, your content will be removed from the Recently Deleted album. Photos are backed up on our servers for up to 30 days after they're deleted from the Photos app. If you need to recover these photos during that time, contact Apple Support.

  • ICloud Photo Library (beta) version?

I have an iPhone 5c that was recently repaired and upgraded to iOS 8.2. A new feature I noticed was the Photos setting in iCloud, where I have the option to "Optimize iPhone Storage" or "Download and Keep Originals." The wording doesn't make sense to me, and the little description below isn't exactly clear either--what's the difference between the two? I take a ton of photos, so storage is important to me, but does that mean I have lower quality photos saved to my phone only? Or are lower quality photos being backed up on iCloud, too?
    Thanks!

What happens if I turn off iCloud Photo Library?
You can turn off iCloud Photo Library for a single iOS device by going to Settings > iCloud > Photos and turning off iCloud Photo Library beta. If you turned on Optimize [device] Storage, you might not be storing all original photos and videos on that device. To download the original photos and videos, select Download and Keep Originals. Then you can turn iCloud Photo Library off. You can also select the items that you want to download within the beta Photos app on iCloud.com.
You can disable iCloud Photo Library (and recover iCloud storage) for all devices by going to Settings > iCloud > Storage > Manage Storage > iCloud Photo Library beta, then selecting Disable and Delete. Once disabled, you will have 30 days to download your library to at least one device. You can download your photos and videos to your iOS device by turning on Keep Originals or by selecting the items to download from iCloud.com/photos.

  • ICloud Photos Disappeared after enabling iCloud Photo Library

    Hi,
I have quite a complicated problem.
About two weeks ago I bought a new iPhone 5S (now running iOS 8), to replace my ageing iPhone 5.
All my photos were backed up on the iPhone 5, and then restored onto my 5S.
Recently, when I enabled iCloud photo library (Beta) on my 5S, all of my photos from a period of time (January to October this year) became grey thumbnails on my iPhone. When I looked at an individual photo, a message: 'loading' was where the photo should have been.
The loss of all of these photos is seriously troubling for me, and anyone who can give me a solution to this problem will receive huge respect from me.

    Hi goblue123,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that some of your older photos appear to have been removed from your iPhone after turning on iCloud Photo Library beta. Please read over the attached article for why this may have happened. If the photos are still on your computer, you can sync them back to your iPhone.
iCloud Photo Library beta FAQ - Apple Support
What if some of my photos are missing after I turn on iCloud Photo Library?
iCloud Photo Library won't upload lower resolution photos and videos synced to your device from iTunes. You can use these steps to move the photos from your computer to your iOS device.
    Best regards,
    Joe

  • Can I organise photos into albums within iCloud Photo Library?

i Understand that edits / deletes etc in iCloud Photo Libary will be reflected on all my iOS devices but can I organise my photos into albums using iCloud photo library?
basically I want to take photos on my iPhone, review them on my iPad, delete the ones I don't want and keep the good ones in a relevant album (e.g. "Summer holiday 2014"). Then I want to be able to see identical albums on both my iPad and iPhone. From what I've seen so far, when I create an album and save a photo to it then that album is only local to that device?
    please help.

Are you saying it showed 800 photos before turning off iCloud photo library or that the 800 photos disappeared after you enabled iCloud photo library for the first time, the distinction is quite important.

  • Pictures in iPhoto were not downloaded to iCloud Photo Library

I turned on the iCloud Photo Library (beta) on my iPad using iOS 8.1 and all my pictures in iPhoto were NOT put in the library.  I understood it would take several iterations (limits are 1,000 pictures/hour, maximum 10,000/day) but nothing has changed from the initial download.

I turned on the iCloud Photo Library (beta) on my iPad using iOS 8.1 and all my pictures in iPhoto were NOT put in the library.
iPhoto on your Mac does not (yet) work with iCloud Photo Library Beta. Right now, iCloud Photo lIbrary is limited to your mobile devices using iOS 8, see this link:   iCloud Photo Library beta FAQ
I understood it would take several iterations (limits are 1,000 pictures/hour, maximum 10,000/day) but nothing has changed from the initial download.
These limits are applying to the Photo Stream, not iCloud Photo Library.  (iCloud: Photo Stream FAQ)
Early next year iCloud Photo library should be available on your Mac as well, when the new Photos.app for Macs will be released.

  • ICloud Photo Library - Updating forever

I've been using iCloud Photo Library since iOS 8.1 without too much problems (apart the fact that syncing between devices is very slow).
For no apparent reason, on my iPhone 5 (iOS 8.1.2), icloud photo library is stuck at updating 22 pictures to the cloud. I've rebooted twice my device, checked on icloud.com to see if the pictures were there but they are not uploaded their hence they don't show on my iPad Air too. New pict uploads are working from the iPad though but won't sync by to my iPhone 5. So this seems to be a problem on my iPhone 5 only...
    How can we fix that?

You shouldn't really lose anything, you were told to back up all your photos when you agreed to join this beta trial.
It would be helpful to know if you do actually have 22 photos yet to be uploaded (shring this type of information, is after all the purpose of participating in a beta program.
My first step would be to turn it off and on again as suggested.

  • Photostream and iCloud Photo Library Mutually Exclusive??

I turned on the iCloud Photo Library on Monday after upgrading my devices to iOS 8.1.  I recently noticed that the Photostream portion of the Photos app disappeared, and I can no longer see any of my wife's photos in my library (she is not using iCloud Photo Library).
My take away is that if you enable iCloud Photo Library, then Photostream is disabled (or doesn't function the same).  Is this true?  In the iCloud and Photos settings page, there is sitll an option to enable Photostream, but my iPhone is no longer pulling those photos off of the Photostream.
This seems like a poor strategy for mechanization since the iCloud Photo Library is not fully supported within OS X, but Photostream is.  Why not keep both for the time being, especially since Photostream does not go against your iCloud quota, but the iCloud Photo Library does.
Apple should at least let you use both until iCloud Photo Library is fully supported within OS X.
Can anyone confirm my suspicions or provide more information?  I maybe forced to disable iCloud Photo Library just so my wife and I can share pictures...

Yes, your Photostream album goes away. The idea here is that Photostream and "iCloud Photo Library" are covering the same particular area (which is in common with each other) and that area is the "photo sharing" part.
Now, in regards to why can't Apple include them both when you choose to activate the "iCloud Photo Library" ... is simply that you choose to be a "beta tester" in  "iCloud Photo Library" ... so you get what you choose in that regard. No one is required to be a "beta tester" and they shouldn't be, if they are not suited to doint that sort of thing. But, you decided you wanted to be a "beta tester" ... so that's what a beta tester gets ... they get to "test out the system" and report any problems and bugs to Apple so that Apple can bring the "beta program" to "final status" and release it to the general public.

  • Photos will not open, stuck on "Use iCloud Photo Library Page"

I have had my photos app running for three days now and it still hasn't created a library. It is stuck on the Second screen after initializing the app for the first time which gives you the choice between use iCloud photo Library and not now. When I try to quit the app a dialog box pops up saying "Photos is creating or opening a library - cannot quit while it creating or opening a library"
    Can Photos be re-installed?
Bit of background, I have a 3th fusion drive iMac from late 2013 and I am a photographer with about 1tb of photos on the local drive, is it overwhelming Photos?
    Thanks

    Hi VtBoomer,
Lets see if we can clear this up. When you turn on iCloud Photo Library beta, you are essentially switching from a collection of photos that is stored on your iPhone and moving the photos to iCloud. It does actually use iCloud storage when you do this. What this accomplishes is if you have multiple devices, then they will be in sync across all other iOS and your computer. Take a look at the FAQs page below to answer any other questions you may have.

Yesterday I set up iCloud Photo library beta to upload my photos to iCloud.  Aft 40 photos uploaded it seems that the upload is stuck and won't upload any more photos.  I went to the iCloud photos beta site and the 40 or so photos that uploaded are there.

  • Photos have stopped uploading to iCloud Photo Library

I turned on iCloud Photo Library on my iPad Mini & iPhone 5S on Wednesday last week. Friday night it stopped working on both devices. It keeps trying to upload but then reverts to saying "Uploading 1 photo". How do I get this working again without losing the photos I have taken in the meantime?
