The volume Macintosh HD was found corrupt and needs to be repaired

Hello there,
There's a problem with my MacBook.
Yesterday I've made a back-up, because I would like to reinstall everything.
But it doesn't work.
The laptop doesn't start up from the installation disc holding the C. Nothing happens.
When I open the CD via the finder and start the installation, it fails at some point. It gives an error that maybe the CD is dirty or something. That's not true.
I thought there was something wrong with the CD, but it's more then that.
I did the disk repair, and it said as followed: The volume Macintosh HD was found corrupt and needs to be repaired.
The problem is that I can't repair the volume, just because of the CD problem. It's really annoying, the only solution is to reinstall, but it doesn't work at all.
Can anybody help me?
Thanks a lot!
Bye

Put your install DVD into the optical drive and reboot. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the Option key until the Install Disk shows up then click on the Install disk and then the arrow below it. That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
When it does start up, you'll see a panel asking you to choose your language. Just press the Return key on your keyboard once. It will then present you with an Installation window. Completely ignore this window and click on Utilities in the top menu and scroll down to Disk Utility and click it. When it comes up is your Hard Drive in the list on the left?
If it is then click on the Mac OS partition of your hard drive in the left hand list. Then select the First Aid Tab and run Repair Disk. The Repair Disk button won't be available until you've clicked on the Mac OS partition on your hard drive. If that repairs any problems run it again until the green OK appears and then run Repair Permissions.

I received a hand-me-down MacBook Pro (mine was stolen).  I tried to install a full backup from my Time Machine using Migration Assistant, it froze during the install so I force quit the Migration Assistant.  Since then I have had to re-establish my administrator ID and password.  I can now only boot up in safe mode, I get the message that my HD is full (only 8.67GB available out of 199GB), and to make matters worse I now get the message "The volume Macintosh HD was found corrupt and needs to be repaired".  I don't have the install discs, and I'm not very tech savvy.  Can anyone help me?

You can buy OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard Install DVD.

AHT will not scan for or find bad disk drive sector blocks, it might tell you your SATA chip.... no it won't do that either.... <g>
In a perfect universe Disk Utility First Aid, run from another hard drive ideally, or lacking that run from DVD. The shift key is suppose to check the drive journal and directory for out of sync errors and delete and rebuild extension and other system caches.
But you might want to backup first, and you could install OS X on another drive for one thing, or try using Disk Utility : Restore tab to make a full system copy of everything to another hard drive.
Why not jus point to "Disk Utility startup"

  • HD corrupt and needs to be repaired but I don't have startup disk?

I have an early MBA and recently it has taken up to 3 minutes plus to boot up so I checked in Dick Utility and got the following message when I went to verify disc:
    Invalid directory item count
It should be 32 instead of 31
The Volume Macintosh HD was found courrupt and needs to be repaired.
Error: The disck needs to be repaired...use Disk Utility to repair this disk.
Okay so it appears I need to boot up this MBA with the boot up disc but for the life of me I can't find it. I have other start up discs form my MacBook pro and the flash drive for my new MBA. Any suggestions what I can do? Can I use the disc from my Mac Book pro?
Thanks for any suggestions of where to go from here.

A Snow Leopard disk should work, though you should run Disk Utility from the Installer menu and do a disk repair on the hard drive. If it repairs successfully, you might not have to reinstall SL. If it can't successfully repair, then you'll probably need to erase the drive and then reinstall.

  • HT2956 HD corrupt and needs to be repaired.

I can not start up with the installation disk.  When I hold C it just freezes with a solid gray screen.

I have waited almost two hours and the disk was spinning and it was getting hot.

  • After getting the dreaded gray/blue screen, I tried to run disk repair on the internal disk. I got an error message saying "Disk Utility can't repair this disk and restore your backed-up files. The volume Macintosh HD could not be verified completely

After getting the dreaded gray/blue screen, I tried to run disk repair on the internal disk. I got an error message saying "Disk Utility can't repair this disk and restore your backed-up files. The volume Macintosh HD could not be verified completely." What do I do now? This is an iMac and I'm running 10.6.8.

    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it. See below for how to clone a drive.
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
You may be able to backup your data if you have an erased external drive you can use. Before you do the above but after you have opened Disk Utility you can try to clone your drive:
Clone using Restore Option of Disk Utility
      1. Open Disk Utility.
      2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
      3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
      4. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag
it to the Destination entry field.
      5. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to
          the Source entry field.
      6. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.
Now this will only work if the drive is accessible and can be cloned by Disk Utility. Otherwise, you would need to access your drive from another Mac that you can connect via Firewire - Target Disk Mode.

  • No release template matching the current build definition was found to create a release and deployment for.

When I try to start a build that's linked to a standard release template (vNext template) I get "No release template matching the current build definition was found to create a release and deployment for." and the build fails.
I am able to successfully start a release from the Release management client so I don't think there is a problem with the release template. If I start a build with agent based template it works fine so I don't think there is any TFS-RM integration issue.
My environment is a 2013 Update 4 (VS, TFS & RM). I even tried to uninstall and re-install all the components still no luck.
I can't find anything useful (or obvious error) in the release management log files & event log (all the RM components log are set to Verbose)
I even tried to trigger a release (vNext) via a REST API suggested in a website but no joy.
    Thanks in advance.
    Bharath

    Hi Bharath,
    Thanks for your reply.
Do you mean that you can start this standard release template from your RM Client?
There’s the below error message in your RM Server log, it seems RM Server try to find the Deployment Agent, but standard release needn’t the deployment agent.
ErrorMessage="No communication from the deployer. Possible reasons include: 'Deployer is not installed', 'The service is stopped', 'Deployer is not well configured', 'Deployer is not responsive'"
Additionally, try don’t specific the stage value in your build definition>>Process>> Release Target Stage, then queue build definition again.

  • Macintosh HD won't boot, but disk utility says "The volume Macintosh HD appears to be OK." How do I repair the hard drive?

I have a MacBook that needs its internal hard drive's Macintosh HD partition repaired, as the boot screen freezes on startup.  I am running a separate, working mac OS from an external hard drive in order to run disk utility and repair the MacBook's internal OS.  The issue is, it has dismounted the internal Macintosh HD partition, and won't remount. And in addition to that, the Verify Disk option returns with, "The volume Macintosh HD appears to be OK." I've run Verify Disk and Repair Disk a few times, all with that same result.  And the internal OS still won't boot.
I have attempted to make a disk image of the internal Macintosh HD partition and save it to my external hard drive so I can wipe the internal hard drive clean and restore the image, but I receive errors when trying to create the disk image, and when trying to erase the hard drive (I know, I should try to erase the hard drive when I haven't made an image. When I tried to erase the hard drive, the image wasn't done and I thought it was. I got an error for erase, and I got an error for making the disk image)  I have tried making a disk image multiple times and haven't been able to create one.
There is also a boot camp partition on the internal hard drive which is of no importance as to whether it stays or is erased.

Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    Do the following:
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install the Combo Updater for the version you prefer from support.apple.com/downloads/.

  • The volume "Music" cannot be found! Help how do I fix this??

    Hello,
I was a happy macbook user living in Hong Kong until the my Macbook hard drive suddenly made clanking noises and failed.
I had my computer serviced by CASE and they replaced the hard drive, but took a month and two weeks do it.
Now I finally have my Macbook back, but now when I click on "Movies", "Music", or "Pictures" I get the following error: The volume "Movies" cannot be found, The volume "Music" cannot be found, and The volume "Pictures" cannot be found.
I imagine this has something to do with the shortcut pointing to the wrong path. How can I correct this??? Thanks in advance.

Hi Peter, and a warm welcome to the forums!
I imagine this has something to do with the shortcut pointing to the wrong path.
    Great deduction on your part!
I take it your clicking on the Icons in the Sidebar of the Finder Windows?
If so, simply drag them off the side of the window.
Then to put good ones in their place, open your Home Folder, the house Icon with your shortname, find the folders you want & drag them to the sidebar of the window where you drug the others from... arrange as you wish by dragging.

I have no idea what this means beyond the fact that my hard disk must be **** up in some way. Can anyone advise a course of action here? Furthermore, I'm unable to select the Repair Disk button following the scan. Should I continue with the Leopard upgrade and worry about this later? Thanks.
    ~Macincrotch

This doesn't appear to be a serious issue, but, +no, you should not continue with the upgrade until your startup disk is error free+.
Get your 10.4 installation disc out, boot from it holding down the C key after the startup chime. When you reach the language screen, choose English, then, in the Installer window, do not click Continue, but instead, go to the Utilities menu in the menu bar and choose Disk Utility. In Disk Utility, highlight Macintosh HD (or whatever you have named your startup disk) and choose to Repair Disk from there.
If you see any messages which indicate that your file system was changed, run Repair Disk again until under the test results you see only a message in green saying that "The disk Macintosh HD appears to be OK."
At that point, quit Disk Utility, quit the Installer and reboot into your PB's startup disk.

  • No release template matching the current build definition was found

    Hi,
I am trying to integrate TFS 2012 project build with Release Managment 2013 Update 3.
I have working agentless (vNext) release template which successfully installs my application on server. Now I want to automaticly start release process after build completition. So I set proper build definition and checked "Can Trigger a Release from
a build?" box. However when build runs I get:
"No release template matching the current build definition was found to create a release and deployment for."
    Any ideas what's wrong?
I also tried a solution with Deployment Agent (old Release Template and stuff) and it seems to be working...
    Thanks for help,

As of Update 3 you now can do the trigger for vNext via a REST API.  This means you can simply use a PowerShell script called from the standard Default Template xaml file. Below is a script which you can see below can be configured easily into the Build

    Hey gwscrt,
Since iTunes directed to you to restore your iPod, I'd check out the following article that goes over the steps to do so:
    Restoring iPod to factory settings
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1339
I would read the document in full, but here are the applicable steps for you:
    How to restore iPod
Verify that you have an active Internet connection, because you may need to download new versions of the iTunes and iPod Software.
Download and install the latest version of iTunes if necessary.
Open iTunes. Connect your iPod to your computer using the USB or FireWire cable that came with your iPod.
After a few moments, your iPod will appear in the Source panel in iTunes.
Select your iPod in the Source panel. You will see information about your iPod appear in the Summary tab of the main iTunes window.
    Click Restore.
If you are using a Mac, you will be asked to enter an administrator’s name and password.
A progress bar will appear on the computer screen, indicating that stage one of the restore process has begun. When this stage is done, iTunes will present one of two messages with instructions specific to the iPod model you are restoring.
Disconnect iPod and connect it to iPod Power Adapter (typically applies to older iPod models).
Leave iPod connected to computer to complete restore (typically applies newer iPod models).
During stage two of the restore process, the iPod displays an Apple logo as well as a progress bar at the bottom of the display. It is critical that the iPod remain connected to the computer or iPod power adapter during this stage.
Note: The progress bar may be difficult to see, because the backlight on the iPod display may be off.
After stage two of the restore process is complete, the iTunes Setup Assistant window will appear. It will ask you to name your iPod and choose your syncing preferences, as it did when you connected your iPod for the first time.
    Have a good one,
    David
