  • The volume on my Macbook Pro is not working ?

I've checked the settings in System Preferences and it seems everything should be working with my volume. NO GO! Help please

Is it not working across the board, or on very specific things (like You Tube videos)? The reason I ask is because there is a separate volume control on You Tube videos that must be turned up in order for you to have volume.
I couldn't figure out why none of the You Tube videos I was attempting to play didn't have any sound until I discovered this....It's in the bottom left-hand corner of the You Tube screen.
    Just wanted to share!
    Cheers,

  • Output volume on my MacBook Pro is not working

My output volume on my MacBook Pro is not working. When I go to "Settings", then "Sounds", then "Output", I can not slide the volume bar at all, or change it in the menu bar?

    See if a PRAM reset will solve the problem;

  • The sound on my Macbook Pro does not work.

The sound on my Macbook Pro does not work.  When we press the volume buttons, the sound icon pops up, but the bar is full with a small "Does not work" circle below it, and nothing happens when I hit volume up or done.  I went into system preferences, but there aren't any options there that I can see to change it.

"Unfortunately, it doesn't provide any help for a MacBook Pro, other than indicating to call Apple Support" (sic).
Au contraire. TS1574's title and affected products are thusly:
"Troubleshooting issues with no audio from built-in speakers on Macs
Products Affected Mac mini, MacBook, MacBook Pro, iMac"
As a result, the instructions of the article are relevant. To be sure, follow those steps, the last of which is to contact Apple.
So, by way of reminder, here are the steps to troubleshoot the audio on your MacBook Pro. There is no red light, so the port is likely fine. Headphones work, so clearly your sound card is fine.
    1. Ensure an incorrect version of OS X is not installed. If one is, then reinstall or erase/install after backing up your data.
    2. Remove any external audio devices from USB, firewire, etc.
    3. Open Sys Prefs > Sound > Output
If Internal Speakers is listed, select it and test again.
If Digital Out is listed, confirm again that all external audio devices and cables have been removed.
If mute is selected, unselect it.
If the volume slider is low, raise the volume.
If the above simply doesn't fix it, the issue may be a corrupted plist. Apple Support might be able to help troubleshoot the issue further, per the last step of TS1574.
I hope it gets resolved for you. Good luck.

  • The sound on my macbook pro is not working

The sound on my macbook pro is not working. When I increase the sound, the icon appears as if everything is working, but no sound comes from the speakers. Earphones don't work either. I have tried a PRAM reset but at times, this doesn't even work. It's really frustrating having to restart my computer every time I want the sound to work, and even when I do that, theres a 50 50 chance of it working again. It generally happens after my laptop goes to sleep and I wake it up. Has anyone else had this problem and fixed it or even know what caused it?
There are a lot of discussions around the earphone jack but I have checked that. I've tried a PRAM reset which hasn't worked, and my sound output is set to Internal speakers.

  • One of the USB ports on MacBook Pro does not work.

    Hi,
I purchased a MacBook Pro in Jan '11. Both the USB ports on the laptop were working fine. Recently, I have noticed, any external device connected to the USB port, towards the battery side does not recognize the connection.
Any solutions ?. Is this defect covered under warranty ?.
    Regards
    Anil Madan

    Anil,
    Try resetting the SMC.
    SMC RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.

  • Messages on my MacBook Pro is not working after factory reset, how can I enable it?

I just recently (yesterday) got my MacBook Pro Mid-2012 restored after having a few issues with it. So it is totally "clean."
Today I tried to open Messages which worked previously, but it wouldn't let me send a message to anyone (who I could message before the restore) and if I was able to send a message it would show an "Message Can't Be Sent" symbol next to it. I went to Messages > Preferences > Accounts > and saw that my account was enabled but my email used is in a grey font and it will not let me add my iPhone number.
I have signed in and out, deactivated and reactivated the account and I still cannot message anybody.
Please help guide me into fixing this, I have looked at other boards and it doesn't really help me with my predicament. How can I send a message?
Also in the Messages menu, "My Status" is grey and I can't click anything and as well with the "Log In" option. If this can help developing an idea of what might be wrong.

It won't send it to other emails, but it will for phone numbers. Not sure why, but if you can help with sending to other iMessage emails I would appriciate it :-)

  • Macbook Pro speakers not working in OS but work in Bootcamp ?

Had macbook pro for over a year so warranty is expired, i had spilled a drink on the laptop and thought that the speakers were lost for ever. But when i set up bootcamp with windows 8 the speakers now worked perfectly, this means that the speakers do still work and hopefully someone can give me some instructions on how to salvage them and get them working on OS !
Sadly i've tried resetting the Nvram (Pram) and the SMC with no change to the speakers in OS, I would like to still have the speakers functioning in OS even though they work in bootcamp and if anyones got any tips or suggestions, please help !
    Frank

There are many possible causes for this issue. Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. Start with the steps recommended in this support article. Don't skip any of the steps. It's the starting point for further efforts to solve the problem.
    2. Run Software Update and make sure you have a fully up-to-date installation of OS X.
    3. If you've installed an application called "Memory Clean" or any other third-party software that is supposed to "clean" or "purge" memory automatically, remove it according to the developer's instructions and restart. You should do that even if the software is not causing the problem, because it's useless.
    4. Other third-party software that has been reported to interfere with sound output includes "Boom" and "Samsung Kies." If applicable, uninstall according to the developer's instructions (not by dragging something to the Trash.)
    5. If an AirPlay device is selected for sound output from iTunes (or from other applications via third-party software such as "Airfoil"), deselect it.
    6. Launch the application "Audio MIDI Setup" by entering the first few letters of its name in a Spotlight search and selecting it in the results (it should be at the top.) Select Built-in Output from the list on the left. If the Mute boxes are checked, uncheck them.
    7. If a red light is coming from the audio-out port, the internal switch is stuck in the position for digital output. You may be able to free it by inserting and removing a mini-stereo jack of the proper size. Inserting any kind of tool in the port may cause damage that won't be covered by your warranty.
If there's no red light, the switch may still be stuck in the headphone position. Try to free it the same way.
    8. Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard and mouse, if applicable. If more than one display is connected, disconnect all extra ones. Restart and test.
    9. If you have a MacBook Air, turn off Bluetooth and restart.
    10. Start up in safe mode. Don't log in; just restart as usual when the login screen appears. When you do, make sure the words "Safe Boot" do not appear in the login screen. If they do, the system is still in safe mode and sound won't work.
    11. Reset the NVRAM.
    12. Reset the SMC.
    13. Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/Audio
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Recreate your settings in theSound preference pane.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    14. Reinstall OS X after backing up all data.
    15. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.
