I do not Skype or anything like that - all I want to do is to listen to & burn CD's, but I haven't been able to do so as the volumn is too low. I attached speakers (speakers which were on my old computer & worked fine), but the volumn
is very faint on both the computer ads itself or a CD playing. I saw some of the same questions dating back to 2010 & there didn't appear to be any resolution at the time, not unless I'm just not seeing it. I'm hoping that's
not the case - Waiting for your response as I have not been able to use the feature from the delivery date of Dec. 12th.

There can be many reasons for this to happen.
1-a corrupt driver. Go to start>search>device manager>enter
Look for the audio device (sound,video, game controllers) and make sure none of the devices have a yellow exclamation point on them ("!") Then look in audio inputs & outputs also check for "!".
Then go to the speaker in the system tray and click it. Then click mixer. Make sure the levels there are all the same.
We might be able to tell something from your event viewer logs
Please provide us with your Event Viewer administrative logs by following these steps:
Click Start Menu
Type eventvwr into Search programs and files (do not hit enter)
Right click eventvwr.exe and click Run as administrator
Expand Custom Views
Click Administrative Events
Right click Administrative Events
Save all Events in Custom View As...
Save them in a folder where you will remember which folder and save as Errors.evtx
Go to where you saved Errors.evtx
Right click Errors.evtx -> send to -> compressed (zipped) folder
Upload the .zip file to skydrive or a file sharing service and put a link to it in your next post
If you have updated to win 8.1 and you get the error message "the system cannot find the file specified" it is a known problem. The
work around is to edit the registry. If you are not comfortable doing this DONT. If you are backup the key before you do
Press Win+"R" and input regedit
Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WINEVT\Channels. Delete "Microsoft-Windows-DxpTaskRingtone/Analytic"

Hey Sierra, You can do just what you have stated. My question, what is your "other"? If it is over 1.5 GB you most likely have corrupt files. Doing a Restore to New, Factory restore should correct it. Just make sure you make a full backup of all information on your iPod to your computer before you restore, so you don't lose your stuff, contacts, videos, pictures, non-iTunes music, etc, use the cable and connect with your computer. Then, via cable, connect to your computer, run the Restore to new, don't use your backup. Treat this iPod as if it was your first one ever. When restore is done, set up and add what info you wish to install on this iPod. The music apps etc you purchased should be on your computer, if not you should be able to retrieve purchased apps and music from iTunes. Any music, videos, apps not purchased from iTunes will be lost to you if you do not save them to your computer or the cloud first. When your done, make a current Backup and you should good to go. When you connect the iPod to the adapter or PC, you should see either of these signs on the iPod Screen .
If you just get
It may mean that your Adapter is not giving enough juice, because
the adapter or the cable is defective or
your bottom dock connector is dirty with lint or dirt.

Sorry if this is too basic or confusing
Apparently in iOS 8 there are different volume settings for different applications
The setting on the home screen does not carry over to Pandora for example and it is different ( or at least appears to be) for the in-car experience.
So I would try to stream the music when not in the car - see if you can turn the volume up and then try again in the car

There's a countless number of volumes on the iPhone.
The Main volume, On-Call volume, Music volume, Siri volume, Directions volume, etc. etc.
While On-Call with an individual or Voice Mail for example, make sure you're holding the up button to it's maximum.

I apologize for the issue you are having, the low performance it could be cause due multiple factors. You are running the last firmware version, however did you perform a factory reset as soonest you updated the firmware? If not, I advise you to save a backup of your configuration then perform a factory reset. And set just the basic configuration. It is possible that the CPU is overload it capacity if it has activated multiple services such as IPS, multiple tunnels, IPsec, certificates, etc.

Are you also using the same Apple ID for FaceTime, as listed under Settings > FaceTime?
If so, don't. While it's perfectly okay to share an Apple ID for iTunes & App Store, you shouldn't share an Apple ID with another person for the following:
iCloud
FaceTime
Messages
Use a unique personal Apple ID. Whoever is the actual owner of the current Apple ID needs to keep using that. The other person needs to make their own Apple ID, and use that for iCloud, FaceTime & Messages. Maybe even Game Center to be on the safe side.

The firmware at the inbuild CD/DVD DS-6E2SH is the latest version.

I don't no about virtuel drives like you mententioned. In the mean time I have rebooted the XPS and run again the iTunes diagnostics. I think the back - chance in the registry was not ready to use. Now there are another results. They are the same in case of a running CD or a not running CD. The difference in total is like before. It takes more time that iTunes reads the (bad) CD and at the there is no good sound. In both cases ( running or not running CD) iTunes diagnostics gives as a result :
(the copie from ITunes shows the result of the not running CD from Tracy Chapman)

Actually, the bb charger is a 5V, 750 mA charger (which would make it a 3.75W charger vs the 5W that Apple sells for the iPod). Therefore, I would think that my bb charger should work for both bb and iPod, but would charge the iPod at a slower rate, with little harm done to the gadget, but I defer to any opinion that would suggest otherwise?
