The way Pics and Images are saved on hard drive?

I never have all my images in aperture as I am too sacred to lose them and not be able to access the aperture folder where they are all stored by default. Is there ANY way you can configure Aperture 3 (which I just bought) to save the imaged in a file with normal folders and subfolders like you can with iTunes. Sometimes I want to just access a file of an image and with Aperture it FORCES you to go through Aperture to do anything with it. There must be a way for it to save into folders and subfolders like you see it in Aperture and not into the General Aperture folder which is useless as you cannot access it???

Yes, you can manage the files yourself and have Aperture Reference them.
Read the manual, search the forum, this is asked and answered almost every day.

My Mother is elderly,has heart problems,housebound and on oxygen 24/7.My mother recently came out of hospital last Tue after having a very bad chest infection That night she had a fall at home and as she has a buzzer (life line) around her neck she pushed it and realized it was not working.Fortunately my sister found her and notified myself who also has mobility problem as i rang to report the fault.
The adviser stated my mothers name was not connected to the phone number i reported and wouldn't tell me the name of the bill holder.In the end i remembered i had changed this 3 years ago after the death of my Father.They still had him down as the bill holder although the bills are in my mothers name and have been so for the past 3 years.This i found rather distressing.
I explained her condition and they said someone would call round to my mother within 24 hours.By Thurs morning i rang again as she still was not on the phone.The automated system said someone came round on the Weds and the fault was on her property but the person from the call centre said they had knocked at her home 8.41 that morning and no one answered.My sister was there from 8.15 to 9.20 and nobody had called.
So another appointment was made for Sat between 1-6pm of which i myself was there from 12.30 pm.At about 5.15 i rang BT to see if anyone was going to turn up and was told that they had tried to contact me at 2pm on my home line and also my sisters mobile.Both of which we checked and no calls were made as i have a answer phone and on my sisters mobile phone it would have came up as a missed call.I am writing this today and it is now 12.36 pm Sunday and no one has contacted me on my mobile(which they now have) or on the other 2 phone numbers they have too.
In between all this she has had another fall and luckily was found.
What do they call as an EMERGENCY for the old ,ill and Disabled?

My mother-in-law who is elderly and registered disabled is moving from her home to sheltered accommodation. I completed the “home move” form for her on-line. When it came to the date of engineer visit at her new property, the earliest offered was 7 March (over seven weeks from now). As there was no alternative I accepted this and completed the order.
I then rang BT, expecting to have a sympathetic response from a part of the organisation dealing with the elderly and disabled. No such luck; I was just put through to their home move department. After I had explained the situation, the conversation went as follows:
BT: Sorry, there is nothing we can do about this
Me: I think you mean that you choose not to do anything about it
BT: No, the engineers belong to a company called Open Reach; they are nothing to do with us and we have no means of accessing the engineers’ diaries
Me; OK so can you give me a contact at OpenReach please
BT: I can’t do that. OpenReach are a “non-customer facing” company
OpenReach are a BT group company and it seems that there is a deliberate policy of constructing a wall between them and the public to minimise the level of customer service.
Only an arrogant corporation would consider treating the elderly and disabled in this way.

Sharing a lightroom catalog - Does housing the catalog and images on an external hard drive work?

I will be managing a small portion of a client's overall image workflow by updating their web prescence on a regular basis with new work and retagging/uploading old work. I believe this requires the catalog and the image library to be housed on an external hard drive that can travel between the two of us. We are both working on PC's with LR 5.3.
The workflow would look something like this:
Client downloads new images onto external hard drive and imports into LR
"ClientCatalog" is created
Flags Picks and Creates a Collection from those Picks
Hard drive is handed off to me where I open "ClientCatalog"
Make suggested edits to images
add detailed tags and metadata
upload to various social media sites and websites
return hard drive to client
Is there potential problem with this workflow? My assumption is that if everything is housed on the external hard drive then there are no worries about the catalog containing all the latest updates. Can anyone fill me in on potential problems I might have overlooked? Are there any "safety protocols" you would add in to this workflow (besides mirroring everythign on another hard drive) that you would suggest?

Not gone, just mis-addressed. It can be re-addressed as necessary. I believe it is enough on MacOs, to name the drive. On Windows, the details vary by OS version (Google for instructions) but this is for Win7:

After doing this, on re-starting Lightroom and opening the Catalog, the images will at first go offline (previously used location not found). To get them back online, it will be necessary to re-browse the parent folder for all your image folders, to reflect its new location under the new drive reference. That done, the Catalog location info for all the images and subfolders located under that parent folder, will be updated automatically. If this parent is not currently showing in the LR Folders list, you can right-click and choose "Show Parent". LR's display then reorganises to reflect this actual hierarchy.

What is the best way to view images on an External Hard Drive?

I have a Macbook Pro with the latest OS X Yosemite
Can anyone tell me the best way to easily view thumbnail images on the external hard drive because at present I am having to open each folder and would ideally like to see all thumbnail images in similarity to what Adobe Bridge has! (I have not got Adobe Bridge).
Any pointers or advice please?

I backup regularly to data DVD's without a problem.

I have a itunes 11, iMac, iPad sync issue... all new kit, the itunes library and photos are on a networrk drive but syncing is useless, no music, no photos, no video, sometimes music and videos may be visible but greyed out on the ipad....

This is my first posting so sorry for the messy title... I didn't realise how it all worked here.
I have a shiny new imac, shiny new ipad and have all my media on a network hard drive - itunes works fine on the mac - no problems - photos visible in finder and photoshop - no problems, but when I come to sync the new ipad - several things may happen (I have tried many times now)
1) a long wait - whirly gig round spinner thing - then music visible on the ipad but greyed out and useless
2) no photos at all synced
3) no videos synced
4) info syncs ok
5) apps seem to have synced OK
It is not a data size issue as the same amount of data synced before the new kit from my old windows pc on to an iPod - I daren't try syncing the ipod as I need it for my next business trip.
I tried removing the ipod cache files for the photos - no difference - I tried restoring the ipad - no difference
Have I completely wasted a large amount of money?

ps when syncing it jumps through steps 1 - 4 real fast, i seem to remeber iphone showing the number of tracks transferring and names, but i see nothing? then it sits on 5 saying "waiting for changes to be applied"

This is Fiona who asked the question. It's now been pointed out to me that the image is actually my desktop photo blurred. From close up I just saw contorted colors and blurred lines and hadn't linked it to my desktop photo!
Still would like to know the answer because I hate it. Any ideas anyone?

Does upgrading to Snow Leopard change the way CDs and DVDs are burned?

Does SL make better space usage of CDs and DVDs, or is it the same as Leopard?
Does it burn files to CD/DVD using the same file formats? Does it do anything new?

CDs and DVDs use a standardized format. If they did not you could not play a CD or DVD in your Mac that would play in your CD player in your car or your DVD player in your living room.
Or maybe I don't understand your question??

I too experienced the same issue. Here are my details:
Recently I bought a 15” Macbook Pro and last night I tried to connect and use a Edirol FA/66 Firewire 400 connected outboard audio interface using a Firewire 400 to 800 adapter then connected to a Firewire 800 to Thunderbolt adapter since the MBP doesn’t have a native Firewire port. What I observed is that the Edirol was not getting power from the bus nor did the MBP (running Yosemite) recognize the Edriol. At first I thought there was a problem with the Edirol since I haven’t used it in a while but when I connected it to an older MBP that has a native Firewire port, it worked normally. Is there a known issue with these sorts of external audio interfaces working properly with newer MBP running Yosemite? I’m hoping that a software update will fix this issue.

Everyone who logs into Facebook on my Firefox has this problem however if we use Internet Explorer - facebook looks normal.

If you have increased the minimum font size then try the default setting "none" as a high value can cause issues like you described.

In order to install IOS7 on my 4S, I need more storage of 3.1GB and presently have only 1.3 GB. My biggest usage is the camera roll at 9.8GB. Photo stream is at 584 MB. My question is -should I delete the camera roll pics? They are saved on my computer.

At 1.3GB available, your storage space is getting very thin no matter what you do further. As long as you have the photo's in the camera roll saved on your computer you can delete them. Just make sure first that they are in your photo software. If updating in iTunes, just backup/sync first, then update, and that will save the camera roll in the backup as well.
At only 1.3GB you eventually are going to find yourself unable to install or update some app, or unable to take any new pictures, or some other limitation that will force you to free up space anyway. So now, before updating, sounds like a good time to make sure everything is backed up or stored somewhere else, and clean house a bit, then update.

Back up first.
I would probably wait for the merge function of the latest version before merging. Be sure to verify every merge.
Merge Libraries, then from within Aperture move images to referenced on external hard drives.

Actually you’re not.
The iPhoto Window reports the size of the library that would result if you exported all the current versions +and nothing else+ to a folder on the desktop.
The iPhoto Library Folder contains the Original, Modified and thumbnail versions of your pics. It also contains various cache and database files +all of which are necessary+ for the working of the Library.
Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.
You can run a Library on an external disk:
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library Folder as an entity from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

Not quite sure exactly what you want to do, but you cannot do it on a PowerBook. iCloud requires Lion and Lion requires an Intel MacBook or MacBook Pro.
