The web application root or the URL is invalid?

Hey there-  So basically I'm setting up a simple ASP.NET FB4 project using IIS locally.  Before I get into my question, I can successfully create the project and test it on my machine.  My concern is that I can not receive a valid confirmation from FB when setting up the configurations.  For instance, if I place the correct paths:
Web application root: C:\inetpub\wwwroot\weborb4
Web application URL: http://localhost:1234/weborb4
I always receive this error, The web application root or the URL is invalid.  Is there something I should be looking into?  Any suggestions are appreciated!

  • How to get the web application root ?

    Hi,
    We are developing a JSP/Servlets web application for Weblogic 5.1, that is distributed as a WAR archive, and so far we are unable to determine the web application root dynamically (from within the code in a Servlet or class). We tryed the servletContext.getRealPath("/") method, but it is not working due to the fact that we are deploying the application as a WAR file.
    We need to have this app root at the application startup, because it is widely used inside the JSP pages and the servlets of the web application. Also we would like to avoid setting it as a static parameter in the web.xml or elsewhere.
    Does anyone know how to do that? Any hint or suggestion is very much appreciated!
    TIA
    Stefan Buynov

    Thanks for your reply.
    As I said in one of my early posts, this variable (the application root) i used widely in the application (not only in JSPs, but also in classes).
    Another problem will be including JSTL in the project - first of all, I will have to put this tag where the variable is required (it will be quite exhausting), and also the specification of the application is strict - I might not be able to add this tag library, since the client won't like it.
    Anyway, thanks for your concern.
    Regards,
    Stefan

  • The ITS could not connect to the Web Application Server or the R/3 System

    Hi Gurus
    we are in the process of insalling ITS 6.20 (ITS version is 620010318381 ( itsWindowsX64_31-200001681, R/3 4.7 200)
    Actually we installed it for dev/qas server with connectin mode property as "Connect to SAP system Using Applicatin Server"  these are working fine for webgui!
    and the same thing i installed for Production as connection mode property as " Connect to SAP System Using message Server" (hostname/IP, port as 3600 (as instance number is 00) here in the production evnironment we have 2 app servers. The installation got successful but i am not getting the log on screen through the link: http://10.3.3.175:81/scripts/wgate/webgui!
    the error message is :
    Connect Error
    The ITS could not connect to the Web Application Server or the R/3 System
    any help please
    Thanks in advance

    Hello Balaji,
    Check the global.srvc file for errors in the R/3 system information.  The ITS uses the following to connect to your system:
    ~appserver
    ~routestring
    ~systemname
    ~systemnumber
    ~logingroup
    ~messageserver
    Which parameters are used depend on how you are connecting (logon group, route string, etc.)

  • ITS could not connect to the Web Application Server or the R/3 System

    ITS 6.20 on a single host on a WinXP test machine, connecting to R3 4.6C.
    The webgui <u>was</u> working, but a test application created in the WebStudio would not work.
    Now it's the other way around, the test application works fine, but the webgui fails with a "The ITS could not connect to the Web Application Server or the R/3 System."
    I have not managed to get ../scripts/wgate/admin/! to work either.
    Is it possible to have both the webgui and WebStudio created applications, working on the same ITS installation?
    If yes, any ideas how?
    Many thanks
    Tim

    Hi Tim,
    You have to check the connection data in the relevant service file e.g.
    ~systemname
    ~messageserver
    ~logingroup
    ~appserver
    ~systemnumber
    ~routestring
    ~connectstring
    If the Agate doesn't run you would see an ITS 500 error in the browser.
    Thanks and regards,
    Dieter

  • Migrating to Sharepoint 2013 from 2010 - Can you use the same URL for the Web Application without affecting the 2010 environment?

    Hi,
    I am currently trying to migrate our SharePoint 2010 environment to SharePoint 2013. The first thing I'm doing is creating a 2013 development environment to verify that this migration goes smoothly. I'm also doing this so that we will have a testing environment
    after the upgrade to 2013 is complete.
    So here is my question: I have a 3 tier farm including; 1 app server, 1 wfe, and 1 sql server. I have made a copy of our SharePoint 2010 database and installed that on our sql server 2012 sever (This new environment is on 3 completely separate servers from
    our 2010 environment). I have also installed the prereqs and configured SharePoint 2013 on the App server and wfe servers, as well as configuring the necessary service applications (I have created a completely new 2013 database where I will migrate my 2010
    database content when I'm ready).
    I am now at the point where I need to create a new web application on the 2013 app server, where I will be migrating the copied 2010 database.  (Also note that we have a 2010 development site called https://[email protected])
    When I go to create a new web application in our 2013 dev environment, can I use the same url (https://[email protected]) to create this web app, or will this screw up our current 2010 dev environment?
    I'm new to SharePoint migrations, so I apologize if this is a stupid question.
    Thanks in advance for any insight you can share on this!
    Boe Barlage

    So, what you are recommending is that before I create a web application in my new 2013 environment, I need go into my hosts file on my 2013 app server and alter it to point to my 2013 wfe.
    Then after I do that, then I can create my new web application on my 2013 app server with the same url as my 2010 testing environment
    (https://[email protected]).
    Then after that I should be able to access my new sharepoint 2013 environment at the same URL (https://[email protected])?
    I must be missing something.
    In your first reply, you told me to alter the host file on my 2010 app server and point it to my 2010
    wfe (I guess I thought it probably already is). You also told me to alter the host file on my 2013 app server and point it to my 2013 wfe.
    so I am confused on after I do this, what url would I access my 2010 test environment, and what url would
    I access my 2013 test environment?
    I am fine with having my test environment as a different URL until I am totally ready to roll everything over and kill the 2010 site. But I want to make sure that when I migrate my database, none of the site links are broken.
    I also want to make sure that if I proceed this way, I want to be sure that I will be able to modify the URL to what my 2010 environment is (without a lot of headaches) when I am ready to kill the 2010 site.
    Thanks again for your help, it's much appreciated!

  • How do you get the web application path from the servlet?

    I have created a web application which is installed in
    /webapps/myApplication
    /webapps/myApplication/data/users.xml
    /webapps/myApplication/WEB-INF/classes/myServlet
    How can you get the path to the "users.xml" file from the "myServlet" file?
    The code below doen's seem to return the xml file. anybody knows why?
    public class myServlet extends HttpServlet {
    public void doGet( HttpServletRequest req, HttpServletResponse res ) throws ServletException, IOException
    File myXmlFile = new File("/data/users.xml");

    Try this..
    String FileName = getServletContext().getRealPath("\\data\\users.xml");
    File myXmlFile = new File(FileName);
    hope this helps..

  • How do I change the Web App Root

    During installation I made a mistake of choosing the compiled output directory as the Wen App Root, whereas it seems that it actually wanted the source directory. Consequently whenever I try to open a source jsp file I get
    Unable to create this part due to an internal error. Reason for the failure:
    The NitroX editor can only be used with the pages located in the Web Application Root directory.
    The Web Application Root directory is the directory containing the WEB-INF folder.
    The text editor is being used instead.
    How do I change the Web App Root directory, I can't find a menu or preference that shows the current value or an ability to establish a new location.

    Does this mean then that you are forced to have a WEB-INF folder sitting beside JSPs you want to edit with NitroX?
    e.g. If my project directory structure looks like this:
    project-root
    |-- dist
    |      |- WEB-INF
    |      |- a.jsp
    |      |- b.jsp
    |-- web
            |- a.jsp
            |- b.jsp[/code:1:daa10af002]
    i.e. I keep my JSP source code in /web but when I run my Ant build the JSPs are copied to the dist directory.
    If I try to edit the files in /web using NitroX I get the error mentioned above. Does this mean I have to make /web the Web App Root directory and thus have to have a WEB-INF folder inside it?
    Cheers,

  • The web application at [URL] could not be found.

    Hi,
    I am trying to run a simple code like finding all the users in the SharePoint site.
    But I am seeing this error constantly no matter what I do!!
    The Web application at [https://xxxxxx] could not be found. Verify that you have typed the URL correctly. If the URL should be serving existing content, the system administrator may need to add a new request URL mapping to the intended application.
    I've looked into all the answers on the forums but still stuck with this error.
    I am a beginner in SharePoint, and I am really not sure about the AAM and IIS settings that needs to be set inorder to get rid of this error.
    If someone could point me in right direction that targets beginners that would be really helpful.
    Also, I noticed that my IIS is blank on the dev server that I am working on with Visual Studio and SharePoint installed on it.
    Is this something that is causing this error?
    Thanks

    Note: you need to enter the SharePoint site URL
    To authenticate:
    f you are connecting to office 365 then use the following code:
    using (srcContext = new ClientContext(txtUrlFrom.Text))
    SecureString passWord = new SecureString();
    foreach (char c in txtPasswordFrom.Text.ToCharArray()) passWord.AppendChar(c);
    srcContext.Credentials = new SharePointOnlineCredentials(txtUserNameFrom.Text, passWord);
    if you are using on premise SharePoint 2013 use this code:
    using (srcContext = new ClientContext(txtUrlFrom.Text))
    NetworkCredential credentials = new NetworkCredential(txtUserNameFrom.Text, txtPasswordFrom.Text);
    Example to retrieve data:
    Web srcWeb = srcContext.Web;
    List srcList = srcWeb.Lists.GetByTitle(srcLibrary);
    ListItemCollection col = srcList.GetItems(new CamlQuery());
    srcContext.Load(srcList.RootFolder);
    srcContext.Load(srcList.RootFolder.Folders);
    srcContext.Load(col);
    srcContext.ExecuteQuery();
    to retrieve users:
    Private void GetData(object obj)

    I have created on windows service to fetch sharepoint list ad update the list items.

    Hi mallela1,
    I also had similar issue couple of months back when I was trying to access a remote URL from a Windows service when the site does not exists in the server where service resides.
    You cannot access a remote url (even though it is SharePoint server and also in same network ) from server object model.
    SPSite can look in the current server only. here what is happening is SPSite will look for this in the current server DB and it is not finding this errror.
    So please dont use ServerObject model for accessing remote sites. You can use Client Object model for the code /requirement you have stated above.
    I wasted lot of time in finding a work around to make to work. It did not. So look for other options.

    Here are the most common reasons this error can occur:
    The code is executed on a different machine - The SharePoint object model (except the Client API) requires to be run on the SharePoint server itself. It is not possible to run the application on a server which is not within the same
    SharePoint farm the code is trying to access.
    Insufficient Rights on the site collection - The code is executed in context of an account which does not have read permission on the site collection
    Incorrect Url being used - Verify that the site works correct in a browser and double check that the server is correct registered in the AAM settings
    Incorrect bitness - The SharePoint object model needs to be executed with the same bitness as the operating system. That means you cannot use the SharePoint object model in a 32-bit application if the Operating System and SharePoint
    are installed as 64-bit version. Ensure to compile the project using the correct bitness (64-bit on a 64-bit machine vs. 32-bit on a 32-bit machine)
    Incorrect .NET framework version -  Ensure that the project is configured to use .NET 3.5. .NET 4.0 cannot be used with the current versions of SharePoint
    from Mr.Stefan's post, i have checked with my code : as per the first reason: (1)

    now, at present , am adding a  normal asp.net 4.5 web appln and add the  web reference of this custom web service and trying to consume.
    at this point am getting mulitpl errors: like
    1) platform not supported : am stuck with this error!!
    2) sometimes, am getting document not valid...<html> <head> document not valid........</html>
    for the above 2 errorrs, i still could not able to find a solution!!
    is it because, lists.asmx is not supported in sp 2013? we need to depend on rest-api/ecma/csom ??
    so my question is ,  what should be the correct ad most recommended approach  for reading doc lib/ splist  records/items from a  remote macihne.

    Hello,
    I am trying to find out the internal name of a custom SharePoint list columns, for this I have used following code snippet in my
    console application but getting below error. The site I am accessing is a public SharePoint web site. This code is working

    For avoiding this issue I have done following steps:
    1.Rebuild the application
    2.changed the  platform target as "Any CPU"
    3.Visual studio and this public site is working in my admin account, but still I am getting the error!

    Console.WriteLine(internalName);
    Console.ReadLine();

    Hi,
    For a better trouble shooting, I suggest you do as the followings:
    You can recreate a new WCF Service for SharePoint to test whether it works.

    This is one of the least satisfactory aspects of site management in Dreamweaver, and several developers, including myself, have been pressuring the Dreamweaver team for some years to improve this. Who knows? They might eventually take notice.
    The only way to do this at the moment is to create two site definitions, one nested inside the other. Set up the site definition normally based on htdocs as your site root. Then create a new site definition based on site. Dreamweaver will nag you that it can cause problems, but it won't actually stop you from doing it. The only potential problem is with site synchronization.
    The problem with using site as the only basis for your site definition is that Dreamweaver automatically puts things like the Connections, Scripts, and other folders in the site root. So, everything ends up at the wrong level of the site hierarchy. Quite frankly, the whole thing is a bit of a pain. Dynamic site development was added to Dreamweaver only in version 6 (Dreamweaver MX), and no one had really thought through the need to store files outside the site root.
