The whole audio sync/weird sample rate/drift issue (FCP6)

I can tell this question is doomed to fail on account of viewing the other unanswered questions on the subject in the forums, but I'll try nonetheless!
So yeah, importing longer DV clips....audio rate winds up being 'weird' (as in 48003.9kHz instead of 48). Any way of straightening that out that doesn't require a buncha hoops? I've already tried re-exporting it from QT at 48kHz and a few other things. Do I just have to capture in separate chunks instead of one big go?
I found a doc that says, "In previous versions of Final Cut Pro, the "Sync Adjust Movies Over [n] Minutes" option could be enabled in the preferences, triggering an adjustment in the audio sample rate based on the amount of audio recorded to disk during capture. In Final Cut Pro 4 [and up, I'm guessing] this preference has been replaced by automatic audio rate analysis, specific to DV media..."
Apparently this rate analysis ain't working as well as it should...or something...
Anyone?
Thanks,
E

If your footage was shot with the Panasonic dvx100 camera, there is a known audio sync issue. You can install a patch from disc 1 of the FCP install discs inside of the "extras" folder. I've had this problem from time to time and I capture DVCPRO 50, so it's not just a mini DV issue. I usually get an audio rate slightly below 48, like 47.89999 or so. Are you using capture now? I used to get this problem a lot more when using capture now as opposed to log and capture. My solution has always been to always use log and capture and keep clips 15 minutes or shorter. I've tried trashing prefs and all that jazz, swapping out hard drives, but log and capture and shorter clip lengths always seem to clear it up.

  • Logic X - Weird Sample Rate Error - what Laptop should I upgrade to?

    I have a MacBook Pro 13 - Mid 2009 (2.26 Core Duo) with 4GB Ram updated to Maverick to test of Logic X.  I also have a iMac 3.2 Core i3 with 12 GB Ram running as Snow Leopard and Logic 9.  Generally, the iMac doesn't have any issues with projects with lots of plugins; however, the laptop would sometimes choke up on Logic 9 on projects that had lots of third party plugins.  I didn't update the Imac because I didn't want to deal with the loss of 32 bit plugins (update **** as I call it)
    After updating to Mavericks and running 32 Lives (to resurrect my lost 32 bit plugins), The laptop now will not play a project that has 6 midi tracks and a single audio bass track.  I get a weird error that the sample rate is 32456 or some arbitrary number.  I updated the Core driver (Line6 Guitarport), but that didn't help.   Sample rate was set to 128 (on Logic 9 it is usually set at 64).  I then tried upped it to 512 and it seems to work OK, but I thought that Logic X was supposed to be less demanding due to running 64 bit?  Any ideas what is up?  I really don't want to run the audio at 512 due to the high latency.
    After going back and forth, I'd rather update the iMac to the newest version (a quad i7 with the 3GB Fusion) than a new laptop -  spending $3000 for a laptop just seems plain nuts, especially since I would only use it infrequently (I use my iPad for browsing on the go).
    Anyway, what used laptop should I upgrade to that will run Logic X without having to pony up $3000 for a Quad Core i7 with 16 GB rams?  I also need a laptop that I can upgrade the HD to 1TB SSD.
    Big thanks.  Love this web site.

    The sample rate is not 128 or so, you probably mean the buffer size...
    But the performance drop makes sense: switching between a 64 bit process and 32 bit doesn't come free: it cost performance and creates a jitter, which also either shows as performance lost or instability.
    You really have to move away from outdated 32 bit AudioUnits, sorry. Ask the vendors to finally release 64 bit versions, it has been several years since 64 bit is available.

  • Audio sync weirdness? Do I need to recapture EVERYTHING?!?!?!

    Got an odd project going in that tapes are coming in from multiple shooters. I knew this would be an issue so I THOUGHT I had it figured out. Out of about 40 hours of captured footage only a few files are currently in sync, both in QT and in FCP. Some of the footage was coming from an XL2 with 32khz 4 channel audio so I did some tests and found I could do a mix down temporarily, then recapture the seperate tracks later.
    The problem is, that I left the QT settings on the 4 channel mix but I DID set everything back to 48khz. Everything played fine until recently and now all but a few clips are OOS? What the heck? I am familiar with the rate issues but these are all 48khz files recorded and captured at 48khz? I tried recapturing a couple clips with the only change being QT selecting ch 1/2 instead of a mix down. The only clips IN sync are from a cheap 1CCD cam that recorded 48khz. Everything from the DVX and XL2 is out of sync no matter what.
    I am almost POSITIVE this is an issue brought up after a QT update. The problem is that I have mainly been logging and not editing so I cant say exactly when the problem popped up. It is not worst case scenario if I have to recapture as my doc experience has helped me develop an anal workflow. I have every tape labled and every clip logged. It is over 100 tapes so that would be a lot of busy work.
    Ideas?

    Quad, G4 Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    I just realized something about the clips in sync... they are not 24P... hhhrrmmm... FYI, the project is being edited in a 29.97 timeline and ALL the 24p is 2:3 or non-advance so this should NOT be an issue. Forgot to mention also, just firewire DSR-11 deck to Firewire in... no AJA card or Kona on this system. Just tried recapturing another clip, only change was the QT capture settings were ch1/ch2 not a mix of ch1/2 & CH3/4... And let me be perfectly clear... last time I played the older clips, they WERE in sync...

  • How to change audio capture devices sample rate

    I am going to develop a online voice chat applet. Now everything works fine. But I didn't find anyway to capture audio in a lower sample rate. The default sample rate is 441000Hz. I am using MediaLocator to capture audio and pass it into Processor.
    MediaLocator ml = new MediaLocator("dsound://");
    DataSource ds;
    DataSource clone;
    try {
    ds = javax.media.Manager.createDataSource(locator);
    } catch (Exception e) {
    return "Couldn't create DataSource"+e.getMessage();

    Use GSM format and do it with setting of BitRateControl. It is better than convert the sample rate of your capturing device. I suppose that you try to reduce load of network traffic with changing sample rate, right?

  • Inconsistent Audio Sample Rate - Export issue

    I am attempting to export my project into a Windows Media file and I'm getting an error that says "inconsistent audio sample rate" Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

    That error was introduced with the release of Quicktime 7.2. Flip4Mac released a beta with the fix for that particular audio error thing HERE. I don't think the final is ready yet, just the beta, but it's working for me. Don't be "put off" by it, but, before you can download the beta, they ask you to fill out some registration info so you can report back any problems you might encounter.

  • Audio Midi Setup Sample Rate not Saving

    Hi Folks,
    I have Propellerhead Reason, Logic Express 8 and Line 6 gearbox running on my Macbook Pro, but every time I access the Audio/Midi Setup and change the sample rate to 48kHz, it reverts back to 44.1kHz whenever I restart my computer. It's absolutely driving me up the wall as none of my audio works (even in iTunes) until I reset it back to 48kHz. I've set all of my preferences in each of the apps to 48kHz, so I really don't understand why it's not saving in the A/M Setup. Oh, I have also tried deleting the library script for A/M Setup to let it generate a new one, but still no improvement.
    Please can someone help?
    Best,
    Deac.

    Mouse was attached to the wrong port.
    When I removed the usb mouse cable from the computer and attached it to the keyboard port then attached the iMic cable directly to the computer--my Input suddenly made an appearance. *dances to the music*

  • Audio and visual sample rates

    hello
    everytime i capture using FCE it comes up with the warning that my rates do not match and says 'make sure the audio sample rate of your capture preset matches the sample rate of your tape'.
    when i ignore this warning, the visual and audio often match nonetheless. then at times they do not, and there is a definite lag.
    i posted a question about this before and the reply was to change the settings in Easy Setup to DV-NTSC. however, this did not work. i bought my camera in the uk (it is a sony DCR PC330E PAL) and so can't really see why ntsc would work.
    im sure this is a simple problem, but i am too inept to solve it! can anyone offer any help?
    thanks in advance

    Hi(Bonjour)!
    It's important to match video and audio format between your sequence(project) and your shooted material(camcorder settings).
    If you camera support PAL or NTSC, select the correct video format in easy setup dialog. That's the video format.
    Check your camera settings for audio format: there are 2 options 12 or 16 bit (in standard DV). It's preferable to use 16 bit with FCE.
    Select the correct audio format in easy setup dialog: if your shooted in 12 bit, select 32 kHz in easy setup. If you shooted in 16 bit, select 48 Khz in easy setup. That's the audio format

  • I have a orange audio bar that doesn't extend to the end of the video clip. How can I get the whole audio?

    In my video clip there is an orange bar that does't extend to the end of the clip. I think this is an audio bar. How do I get the full audio to play when I move the clip to the project?

    Did you try to set it up "as new ipod" without using the latest backup? The backup might contain damaged data causing your problem. If setting up "as new" does not work, you'll have to get it serviced.
    Setting up as new device and transferring data before doing this is covered here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137

  • Can we place Analog in Read(AI-READ) Vi inside the while loop for high sample rate like 22ks/s?

    I am using E-series Card for data acquisition.My requirement is to sample the channel, and check the 10 samples for certain condition.both at a time.What should be done can we place the AI-READ vi inside for or while loop for this purpose?

    Hello,
    Yes, you can include the AI Read.vi inside the while loop, you would just need to specify the number of scans to read for every iteration of the loop. Then, after AI Read.vi has read the data, you can do what ever kind of manipulation of the data you would like, before the next iteration of the loop. The one thing to watch out for is what ever manipulation of the data you do, be sure that it doesn't take to long whereas the buffer holding the data starts to back up. That can be checked by looking at the scan backlog output of the AI Read.vi, which will tell you how many scans have been acquired but haven't been read into your program.
    Hope this helps!
