The whole "convert film scanned in Log to Linear" thing in Apple Color

Hi Everyone,
I scanned my 100 min, 35mm feature (from a low contrast print), to DPX log files.
Can someone recommend a white paper / website on how to do the whole conversion to linear thing in Apple Color?

Apple COLOR automatically linearizes ingested log material to work around the notion that most people don't know how else to deal with it. You can override the conversion in the "Override Header Settings" tab in the Primary In, Settings 2 tab. If you do this, you will require a display/LUT system which will show you a calibrated, linearized rendition anyway as log transfers do not make contrast-wise sense to the human visual system. There is a discussion of this in the Apple COLOR "Manual".

littlechuga40oz If you're only going to be gone for a short period of time, and your package ships via FedEx, you can request a vacation hold once you receive your tracking information. I don't know about UPS but I'm sure they'd have something similar to what FedEx does. @

After installing OS X Mavericks, my cursor has been not working, by not even having a triangle cursor, just a set of lines, that expand across the whole screen when it goes over a random thing! Working on and off and getting worse, what should I do ?

If your cursor isn't working as expected, there are a few steps that can help isolate or resolve the issue.
First, try booting your computer into safe mode:

If the cursor is working normally in safe mode, this usually means OS X is fine, and the issue is caused by conflicting software in your user account.
Next, see if Finder behaves normally in a new user account. The steps in this article also apply to creating a new user in Mavericks:

If the issue persists in safe mode and a new user, I would recommend reinstalling Mavericks:

Apple should put in their gadgets some new application to develop the human creativity, to suugest people to develop amazing things, like apple spirit.

I think apple should install from factory some new app to develop the creativity of the human mind, it's really amazing to use ipad, ipod, mac and iphone, so i think the only thing it needs is some app to create, something new and amazing like apple spirit. What do you think?

The actual creative process or the way to do/use things is not in any application or machine, and as soon as it is, the human equation will no longer be relevant (resistance will be futile, you will be assimilated). All anyone (parents, companies, governments and educational systems, etc) can do is to allow the environment that encourages people to be creative.
Apple provides the community and the tools to be creative with applications for their machines, and businesses are always looking for ways to separate you from your money, so I'm not sure what else you think they can do to coax ideas out of people.

How to stop get-eventlog command if it finds a hit in the date range... w/o scanning the whole thing first :-/

I have a nice little PowerShell function that is scrubbing the eventlog for a 'positive' hit under a certain error code for each user in a defined window.
basically we are looking to see if they are still logging into OCS...
Since it takes what seems like an eternity to scan the whole security log per the 'get-eventlog' statement and then evaluate it it is $true or not... i would like it to break out as soon as it finds one hit without going all the way back x days unless it
has to.
have been trying to use this for testing... with no avail

I'm not sure i'm understanding this correctly but i'm assuming you only care if one shows up in there at all. If so this might speed things up depending on where in the log the first entry is.

Advice re best practice for managing the scan listener logs and list logs

I've just started a job as a RAC dba administrator for some big 24*7 systems, I've never worked with clusterware and RAC.
2 Space problems
1) Very large listener_scan2.log in /u01/11.2.0/grid/log/diag/tnslsnr/<server name>/listener_scan2/trace folder
2) Heaps of log_nnn.xml files in /u01/11.2.0/grid/log/diag/tnslsnr/<server name>/listener_scan2/alert folder (4Gb used up)
Welcome advice on the best way to manage these in the short term (i.e. delete manually) and the recommended practice and safest way (adri maybe not sure how it works with scan listeners)
Welcome advice and commands that could be used to safely clean these up and put a robust mechanism in place for logfile management in RAC and CLusterware systems.
Finally should I be checking the log files in /u01/11.2.0/grid/log/diag/tnslsnr/<server name>/listener_scan2/alert regulalrly ?
My experience with listener logs is that they are only looked at when there are major connectivity issues and on the whole are ignored.

Have you had any issues that require them for investigative purposes? If not, just remove them. Are the logs required for some sort of audit process? If yes, gzip them to a location where you can use your OS tape backup policies to retain them for n-days. Once you remove an active file, it should recreate the file and continue without interruption.

In most cases you can just select the text and copy/paste. You can do that unless the file is a picture/scan.

Image Capture scans the whole bed?

How can I set Image Capture to scan only the document?
It scans the whole scanning bed and is adjusting my printed page so that it shrinks the image terribly. I make doll patterns so this is important to me to scan close to the size I draw. We can do it on my husband's windows laptop *shudder* but not my brand new Apple computer.
This is the least user-friendly system I've used since I bought my first Apple computer in 1993.

Messages Log Window - occupy the whole width of the screen

I accidentally "unpinned" my Messages Log Window and although I have managed to redock it, how do I get my Messages Log Window to now re-occupy the whole width of the screen and leave the System and Structure Windows only as Windows that do not occupy the whole width of the screen.

It sounds like you have docked the Log Window on the left-hand side rather than the bottom.
If you click and drag on the Log Window caption bar so that you are over the background area and then move your mouse towards the very top of the Status Bar you should see the Log Window expand to the full screen width that you want.

I tried exporting my film, but it wouldn't export. So, then I tried rendering all of the clips. However, as soon as I did that, it said that the project itself was offline. Yet when you go into the actual project itself, you can play the whole timeline.

What version is FCPX and what version is your OS?

Are you converting a PDF to another format using ExportPDF, or converting a file to PDF? If you're using ExportPDF, the quality of the conversion depends on the quality of the original PDF file.
