Themed Transitions not rendering in export to Quicktime

I just created my first imovie 09 project. I was using the Bulletin board theme and the transitions work fine with viewing in iMovie. However, when I *export out of imovie to quicktime or itunes not all the transitions render.* Especially the bulletin board transition. There are some other "standard" transitions that are not rendering either.
I am wondering if this is a bug or if maybe it is the settings like Frame per second and encoding that is some how cutting these transitions out. Since most of the transitions do render out to quicktime, I am going to guess this is a bug.
Anybody have a clue?

The file information shows:
Apple MPEG 4 Decompressor, 960 x 540, millions 16bit, 29.97 fps
I just watched the rendered quicktime again and noticed that some of the Bulletin board transitions did render later in the movie but at least one transition is not rendering. It is very strange and bit frustrating.
I am not sure what it could be since it shows in the imovie full screen preview.

  • General error in FCP re: rendering and export  after Quicktime 7.5.5 update

    Hi
My FCP 6.0.4 rendering and export to Compressor no longer works after an update to Quicktime 7.5.5.
Rendering fails after a few seconds "General Error!" pops up. Exporting to Compressor, after setting it compressing, Compressor after a few seconds fails. (audio is processed) My current work around is exporting a sequence using Quicktime conversion (time consuming) and then opening in Compressor.
I've done the usual, deleting prefs, new sequences and projects, even saving movs in different codecs.
    (been using H.264)
My sequences are all custom sizes but tests using presets also fail.
    Any ideas anyone?
And I was so happy the Quicktime upgrade could play sequence movs recorded months earlier that until now I couldn't play properly due to previous Quicktime upgrades!
Apple gives with one hand and takes with the other....

    Hi There,
Thanks for your reply on this.
Well basically since I'm using content already in the H.254 codec (eg: a trailer off the internet, or the downsizing of HD footage) i'm just exporting to a codec that didn't have to be rendered and gave quality results. I used motion jpeg B as an export codec because it was quick (although HD space hungry) with no drop in quality. The resulting exports could be imported into a custom sequence (720 x 405) as square pixel aspect ratio files. Overlapping the canvas with other windows (eg: viewer) meant I could play a clip (with dropped frames) but not have to render it. I selected the H.264 codec as the sequence codec because I've found other codecs introduce darkening or lightening or blurring or other undesirable artefacts when exported to Compressor. H.264 used in the sequence settings exported through Compressor would give resulting m2v's as sharp and contrast accurate as the source file.
That was until the recent 7.5.5 Quicktime update where attempts to do the same things I did before result in "General Error!" coming up after a few seconds of play or rendering.
Traditional DV codecs are "blurry" in my opinion, especially when coping with web content or conversion of HD downloads.
If you can suggest an editing codec that works best with FCP that is quick, doesn't introduce blurring or general degrading of the image I'd be happy to try it out. I typically downsize HD content from the web for DVD playback, so it's usually in a H.264 codec already. So i would need a codec for export from Quicktime that would work best with a codec in FCP. That doesn't alter picture quality when compressed to m2v in Compressor.
    Thanks!

  • Build/Transition times off when exported to Quicktime

I have four Keynote presentations I have built, each of which has several Quicktime movies placed on multiple slides (not the same movie multiple times). I then have Keynote text and shape objects "interacting" with the movies as they play. In Keynote, I have set my build and transition times to perfectly match the content of the Quicktime movies.
Example: I have a movie that was captured from my screen wherein I select various menu items. In Keynote, as the various menu items are selected in the movie, I have Keynote text and arrows pointing to the relevant areas of the movies. "Click File...", "...then Save As..." etc. Looks great when presented in Keynote.
When exported to Quicktime (full size, high quality, Sorensen Video 3) the timing gets worse as the movie progresses, to the point that at the end some of my timings are off by almost 10 seconds or more!
Any ideas why this happens? The export to Quicktime is happing on a dual-processor 2.7GHz G5 with 4GB RAM... should be more than adequate!

Cheers for that, Kyn. Funny, I spent about two hours reading through page-by-page all the forum topics to see what issues people were coming acorss BEFORE I posted. Don't know how I missed this one though! Guess I should try searching next time.
    Thanks,

  • Slideshow transitions not rendering

On a disk with 5 slideshows, the transitions were not rendered for the latter part of a single slideshow. Those transitions were "green screen."
Hard drive has over 25 GB free.
    Everything else seems fine.

There has been a problem in slideshows with more that 99 images. Slides in a slideshow are treated as chapters, and a sloideshow s a track. Tracks are limited to 99 chapters and until iDVD 6, all iDVD slideshows were limited to 99 slides. Apple crated somethong of a 'hack' in iDVD 6 that makes it possible to link together several tracks creating a slideshow of more than 99 images. The problem is, not all DVD playrers like the hack and fail/refuse/have problems in trying to play long slideshows.
As far as the image quality,DVD are low resolution devices. NTSC DVDs are less than 0.3 megapixels. See Preparing images for DVD slideshows at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iDVD/6.0/en/17.html for suggested images sizes to be used in iDVD slideshows.
For long slideshows, create them as movie in iPhoto or iMovie. Many of us like Photo to Movie or FotoMagico (which I use).

  • Transitions not rendering properly - corruption

My transitions are not rendering properly when I try layering two. It was working fine before, now suddenly it is not. I am using FCP 6 and I have Slick FX add ons. The add on was working fine before. I've tried trashing the FCP preferences but to no avail.
See here for a sample -
    http://metrosi.com/Picture3.png
    Any other suggestions? Please help!
    Jennifer

Seems that the problem is with specific Slick FX transitions. Ones under Slick FX Transitions - 3D.
    Things tried....
Tried using the Rotate transition in another location, same issue. Looked ok in the timeline prior to rendering.
There is a Slick FX transition in the timeline that appears to be rendering properly...Cylinder. Put another in a different part of the timeline and it rendered fine (Spin Zoom)
Tried another 3D one (Spherize) -looks fine in the timeline before rendering...rendered fine.
Tried another 3D one (Tube) - did not work.
Tried adding Rotate in after adding others...still not working.
Turnstile not working also (opened a new sequence and tried adding it)
    Twist not working either.
So...not sure what to do about it!

  • Warp stabilizer not rendered on export

I've just exported a sequence and for some reason some of the warp stabilisation effects aren't rendered and the clip has an orange bar saying "Stabilizing" across the middle. Very odd!
Anyone have any ideas why it's done this? The sequence is over an hour long and was about to be sent to a client so it's a good thing I happened to stumble across one of them.

Perhaps you began the export before the initial processing was completed within Warp Stabilizer? Just a guess, have not encountered this before since I definitely wait on each application of that effect so I can judge the results.
Now I have to test that theory, I'm curious!
OK, just tried a test and that is exactly the issue! I dropped four short clips onto a timeline, added Warp Stabilizer to each and of course they each had the blue "Analyzing in Background" banner across them. I IMMEDIATELY went to AME and began an Export and sure enough, the blue banner was exported with the clips.
Depending on the clip, Warp sometimes makes the clip much worse and I would never export before checking the results on each clip I applied it to. The CMOS chip jello wobble sometimes becomes extreme like a funhouse mirror and then I just skip it!

  • Encore CS5 slideshow transitions not rendering reliably to DVD

I'm trying to create a relatively simple slideshow DVD in Encore CS5 on Mac (10.6).  The slideshow is about 35 images long, and most of the transitions are cross-dissolves.  However, there are exceptions: a couple of the transitions have no effect (ie, snap from one slide to the next).  All of the slides but one are manual advance.
The problem I'm having is that the cross-dissolve time (most are set to 3 seconds, vs. the default 2) seems to render as a variable length: hit the "next chapter" button on the DVD control, and the transition time might be the requested 3 seconds, but is occasionally zero seconds, or 1 second, or 2 seconds.  I haven't been able to find the rhyme or sense behind this, although I haven't devoted much time to studying it either.  The settings on each slide appear to be set correctly (ie, transition type set to "Cross-dissolve" and transition time set to 0:00:03:00) in the project.
An additional complication comes from the one autofollow slide in the show: it automatically advances as expected, but at the next manual transition, it cross-dissolves, appears to pop back to the image, then does the cross-dissolve again, finally ending up in the correct slide.
Due to project deadlines, I've given up trying to make this work in Encore and moved to a different product, but I'd appreciate any feedback on how to do this all correctly next time.

Many users have problems with Encore slideshows. The major advantage is the manual advance. I don't use them, so have little to offer.
The settings on each slide appear to be set correctly (ie, transition type set to "Cross-dissolve" and transition time set to 0:00:03:00) in the project.
I worry that your "set x:xx IN THE PROJECT" means that you have not checked each slide duration. It is possible to have a project setting, but for individual slides to have been set to something else.

  • Transitions not rendering

I've been using imovie for a few years now and haven't had any issues until now! I upgraded to 6.0.2 and now my transitions won't render and imovie just freezes up???
I've seen a few other posts about this with no solutions...anyone?

Do you have any third-party QuickTime add-ons installed? Users have reported lots of weird problems associated with any of these: 3ivx, Divx, Flip4Mac. If so, remove them—or temporarily move them to some other folder—and Restart your Mac.
They may be located in the Hard Disk>Library>QuickTime folder, or your User>Library>QuickTime folder.
If that doesn't help, remove any third-party iMovie plug-ins too. They are located in your User/Library/iMovie folder.

  • Transitions not rendering when using 'make movie'

Hi there, I hope you can help I'm getting very frustrated!
I am making a slideshow using imported tifs, and although my block dissolve transitions are working in preview mode, when I render the movie some of them just cut straight and there is no transition. I have tried re-saving the images in question, but still no luck.
    Any ideas?
    Many thanks,
    Neil

Have you checked the Alpha interpretation for the files? TIFFs often have an Alpha channel, even if it's not needed. This might have unexpected side effects...

  • Recording/exporting to quicktime

Is the function of recording a Keynote show with timings and transitions completely garbage when exported to Quicktime?
When I export, it seems that most of the transitions are lost.
Is there something I'm missing or is this just broken?
I need to find a way for my clients who do not have Keynote to view an example of a running show.
    Thanks.

I too have major problems exporting to QT a complex KN08 presentation with sound files in the builds. The timing, which took me long hours to perfect, is incorrect in the exported QT movie. Changing export settings does not help. Tech Support’s suggestion to export the presentation without the audio does not solve the problem at all. The timing of the builds is still incorrect in the exported soundless QT movie, so it is not possible to simply insert the sound files back in using iMovie or Final Cut or QTPro.
(Maybe Tech Support meant to make builds without any sound files at all. But then, how do you synchronize images, animations, transitions and sound?)
The only workaround I have found involves long and frustrating timing readjustments in the builds before export. A daunting task which involves multiple exports to QT for fine tuning. And finally some editing in QT Pro for cutting off extraneous footage that is created in the QT movie at the end of each slide (have found no solution for that either).
This is a major concern. It means the Export to Quicktime function is very tedious (unMaclike) if not useless when sound files are incorporated into the KeyNote builds. I am particularly surprised because KN ’06, though it did not export to QT very well, at least did not have this particular problem.

  • Keynote exporting to quicktime

When quicktime video is embedded on a slide and entire project is exported to quicktime the exported video plays almost all the way through then freezes for a long time. The transition finally plays(the time for this is also pushed back as much as a minute)and then the next video clip plays, freezes and then plays. Ive checked all the inspektor settings and the original video clips. Any idea how to fix

This version doesn't have the recording function --- http://grab.by/3QBb
Thus I cannot do that work around ... anyone got any assistance on offer ?
Should I just give up and save it as a presentation not try to export to Quicktime (make into a movie)

  • Keynote 06 - Exporting to Quicktime

Okay, so I know how to export keeping the audio intact.
My main problem is keeping all the timings I've created intact as I don't have ANYTHING happening "on click" in my presentation. It is all timed and I'm finding the delay between slides is too long (when one "ends" and the other "begins").
    Thus my question:
Using Keynote 06 ... how do I export into Quicktime KEEPING all my timings intact ?

  • Cannot export to Quicktime in Premiere Pro CS5

This problem has been addressed before, but the solution, to simplify the name of the file, is not working for me.
I am not able to export to Quicktime.  The error is "Unable to create or open an output file."
    Here are my parameters:
    Premiere Pro CS5, recently updated.
    Windows 7, recently updated.
    PC HP Pavilion desktop
Source footage is HDV in an mp4 codec via the CS5 timeline.
I have disabled my anti-virus software (ESET).
I have no other video-related programs running.
Clips appear in the Export screen (for preview) perfectly.
Exporting to any other codec or container, including H.264 (an Apple product) works fine.  To make things
a little more interesting, the last time I tried to export to Quicktime (a year ago) I was using PPr CS4.  Export
to Quicktime worked perfectly well.  Now it does not.  Now when I activate "start queue" in Media
Encoder for CS4, the green check mark appears without the clips being encoded at all. Once again, CS4
encodes to other codecs perfectly well.
Sounds like in the intervening year I may have downloaded some interfering software, but like editors
everywhere, I download a lot of these things.  Finding the culprit would take days (weeks!). Are there
    any prime suspects?
Alternatively, are there any other ways to export in high quality to let Mac users easily access PC
    generated footage?

Mac users are the ones who choose to use an OS which creates this type of compatibility issue.  Honestly, I'd just create an AVI and let them solve the problem.
Your clients must really appreciate you as a great "solution providor" Jim!

When you converted the original files via MPEG Streamclip, what did you convert them to?
Have you tried trashing your preferences in FCP? Trashing FCP prefs is usually the first step when FCP is performing strangely.
Download Preference Manager from Digital Rebellion (free) at:

  • I can't export to QuickTime, it gives message "Codec not found."

I have long sequence, in which I have some Channel Swap effects.  I get an error message saying it can't be rendered for a sequence this long (72 minutes) with my hardware (2009 iMac running OS 10.6.8).  When I try to export to QuickTime, it tells me "Codec not found." I'm trying to export to Apple Pro Res HQ.  What should I do?  I took out the Channel Swap effects and didn't get the message anymore in the sequence, but I'm afraid the codec issue will crop up again, even though I changed it to Apple Pro Res in the Render Options tab under Sequence settings, rather than just "Same as Sequence".  Eventually, I will have to export to HQ, and I'm not sure this codec lets me do that.  Help!

You don't give any details about your format or sequence settings, so I'll be general here.
    Just a couple of observations...
The only time limitation messages I've seen (in the last decade) have been resource-oriented, not NLE constraints so if your system doesn't like a 72-minute sequence I'd be looking at drive space or something like that. Have you tried outputting two 36-minute pieces?
I don't understand your logic in using the sequence codec option (which is limited to two specific formats) to control output of the sequence rather than the output "same as sequence" dropdown) options. Personally, I don't use either, I output the sequence as is and transcode in Compressor.
Simple as it sounds, "Codec not found" generally means exactly that, so I'd be looking at whether the codecs need to be re-installed.
    Hope this helps
